Timbaland Turns 49

When it comes to hip-hop’s legendary producers, you’d be hard-pressed to find Timbaland not named in a vast majority of top-ten lists. Boasting a discography that includes collaborations with legendary artists like Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, Nas, Jadakiss, Drake, 50 Cent, Aaliyah, Justin Timberlake, and many more, it’s gotten to the point where Timbo could easily be content to ride off into the sunset reflecting on a job well done. Yet music remains the man’s driving purpose, and the idea of a game without The King is hardly what you’d call favorable.

Today marks a special occasion for Timbaland — his forty-ninth birthday — and we’d like to take a moment to celebrate all of the music he has given us throughout the years. You’d be hard-pressed to find a rap fan who doesn’t have a favorite Timbaland beat, be it one of his countless rap classics or one of his many timeless R&B jams. One need only run a quick YouTube search of Timbaland in the studio to see how excited his collaborators get when he begins to work his magic — from Jay-Z, to Busta, to Kanye West, all of them share the same awestruck reaction.

It goes without saying that hip-hop’s innovators deserve their credit while they’re still here, and the fact that Timbo continues to lead by example as both a creative and a businessman should be inspirational to anyone looking to make their own mark in the game. And seeing as he and Swizz Beatz recently signed a massive deal with Triller, expect him to continue to innovate in new and exciting ways. Happy birthday Timbaland! Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson Signs Controversial Anti-Abortion Bill

Surpassing Burger King for perhaps the most controversial moves made during Women’s History Month, Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson has recently signed a long-reaching anti-abortion bill that heavily suppresses women’s reproductive rights. According to Complex, the bill, known as SB6, outlaws the procedure in almost all cases, except when it is necessary to save the mother’s life. With SB6 notably not allowing abortion in cases of rape or incest, Governor Hutchinson has made an extremely bold move, but according to the politician, the law is intentionally unconstitutional and meant to force the United States Supreme Court to revisit 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade

“I will sign SB6 because of overwhelming legislative support and my sincere and long-held pro-life convictions. SB6 is in contradiction of binding precedents of the U.S. Supreme Court, but it is the intent of the legislation to set the stage for the Supreme Court overturning current case law,” the politician said in a statement.

Governor Hutchinson continued his statement, saying, “I would have preferred the legislation to include the exceptions for rape and incest, which has been my consistent view, and such exceptions would increase the chances for a review by the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Many people are concerned with the passing of SB6, and community leaders like the American Civil Liberties Union of Arkansas executive director Holly Dickson have publicly spoken out against the governor’s decision to sign the sweeping abortion ban. On the matter, she told the Arkansas Times, “Once again, Arkansas politicians have made it their business to dictate people’s personal medical decisions, violate their personal autonomy, and block them from care.”

“This extreme abortion ban is cruel and unconstitutional and it will have accomplished nothing but cause stress for patients while ignoring the pressing challenges Arkansans face,” Dickson continued. “Abortion is legal in all 50 states, including Arkansas, and we’ll fight as long as it takes to keep it that way. Governor Hutchinson, we’ll see you in court.”

Stay tuned as this major political move will surely have national implications in the near future.

Piers Morgan Takes Credit For “Good Morning Britain” High Ratings Amidst Exit

Following the explosive new Oprah interview featuring Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the entire world has been in awe, but no one has been more pressed to talk about it than Piers Morgan. Earlier this week, Piers Morgan took to Good Morning Britain to air out the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and he was subsequently dragged by one of the show’s guest speakers as well as called out by one of his GMB colleagues for his biased coverage of Meghan Markle. After a rough start to this week, Morgan stormed off the set of GMB and announced that he was cutting ties with the show.

It doesn’t appear that Morgan is taking the split well, however, as the former Good MorningBritain host has been spamming his social media accounts with some unflattering posts. Citing free speech as a defense for continuing to speak on Meghan Markle, Morgan slams Oprah’s interview with the alienated British royals by casting doubt on the validity of Markle’s statements.

The controversial broadcaster also hinted at his unprofessional outburst on the set of Good Morning Britain, claiming that he is responsible for the show’s allegedly historical ratings. Check out Morgan’s petty social media rant below.

Cam’ron’s Entanglement With His Neighbor Takes An Alarming Turn

There’s been a unique approach to the way Cam’ron’s marketing his new product Pink Horse Power. The rapper has been documenting his apparent affair with a neighbor in his condo building. It began when she went on social media where she essentially revealed where he lived, adding that she’d have Cam’s babies. The relationship developed and it was a few weeks ago when Cam revealed that they slept together through a now-deleted snippet of their sex tape (no nudity was actually shown).

Unfortunately, it seems that things took a turn for the worse after that night. Cam took to Instagram today where he revealed that his phone’s been ringing off of the hook from “29 C” who just happens to be the neighbor. “It’s been going on since 8 this morning,” he said before addressing the loud knocks at the door. “You can’t do this, yo. You can’t do this,” he yelled. The neighbor continued to knock, demanding that he opens the door. Cam then started threatening to call security. “First of all, why are you calling me when you’re outside the door?!”

The snippet cut to the rapper filming himself as he tried to get to his vehicle only to find the woman standing right next to it in the parking garage. “Nope, nope,” he says repeatedly after she spots him.

Key Glock And Young Dolph Hit The Slopes In Their Icy ‘Aspen’ Video

After delaying the release of their icy “Aspen” video last Friday, Key Glock and Young Dolph are finally ready to hit the slopes. Taking over a cabin on a snowy mountainside, the two Memphis rappers canoodle with some models, have a snowball fight, and tote snowboards to the ski lift (although, in typical rapper fashion, we never do get to see those snowboards get used — call it a liability issue). The video is the first from the duo’s upcoming joint album Dum And Dummer 2, which doesn’t have a release date as yet.

Despite being the first official single from Dum And Dummer 2, “Aspen” was far from Dolph and his protege’s first collaboration of 2021. In February, they teamed up for the video to “Green Light” from the deluxe version of Dolph’s album Rich Slave. Later on in February, they released “Case Closed,” a new crossover unattached to any official releases, but which will likely land on the upcoming joint album.

Meanwhile, Key started off the year with a pair of solo tracks, “Off The Porch” and “I’m The Type,” portending a big year for the 23-year-old rapper. His mentor and label boss, Young Dolph, dropped solo videos for “Large Amounts” and “To Be Honest” before shifting gears to their joint venture.

Watch “Aspen” above. Dum And Dummer 2 is due this year on Paper Route EMPIRE.

J.I.D. Snapped Over J. Cole Production On “Lauder”

It’s crazy to think that J.I.D dropped off his debut studio album The Never Story four years ago to this day, but here we are. With anticipation building for his upcoming project, tentatively titled The Forever Story, the rap game has all but accepted J.I.D as one of the best current lyricists out right now. It’s easy to understand why, given the impression left on tracks like the J. Cole-produced “Lauder,” which held the honor of closing the Atlanta rapper’s debut all those years ago.

Over an ice-cold beat from Dreamville’s own J. Cole, who blesses his signee with one of the spookiest beats of both their respective discographies, J.I.D proceeds to absolutely snap for a total of four straight minutes. Employing the long-lost structure of three verses, J.I.D saves the best for last with one of the album’s most spirited performances. “Let’s get it poppin’, they’re pulling pistols on apostle Paul, So pay the piper or meet the sniper, legend of the fall,” he spits, all but foaming at the mouth. “I knew in diapers you and I was nothing alike at all / I do or die, you do it to die, I’m really making calls.”

There’s a reason many hold J.I.D in high esteem, and given that he was already firing on this level on his debut album, one has to wonder how far he can ascend. Revisit this gem now, and keep an eye out for what J.I.D is cooking up next.

QUOTABLE LYRICS

Let’s get it poppin’, they’re pulling pistols on apostle Paul
So pay the piper or meet the sniper, legend of the fall
I knew in diapers you and I was nothing alike at all
I do or die, you do it to die, I’m really making calls
You couldn’t kill it and take it out of me, the ideology
This the odyssey, I’m Odysseus, you gotta follow me
Watch how I maneuver, I influence the influencers
The flow is like a fluent influenza going through the motion

Playboi Carti Is Ready To Drop New Album: “We Not Done”

Even though Whole Lotta Red finally dropped last Christmas, fans have been clamoring for more music from Playboi Carti nonetheless. Many dedicated fans enjoyed the album’s suprising sonic direction while others immediately wrote it off as a major misstep, yet the mere idea of a deluxe version of Whole Lotta Red has been more than enough to get fans excited once again for new Carti music. Judging from a new Instagram post from the “King Vamp” himself, Carti may be dropping sooner than fans thought.

Carti’s latest Instagram post shows the eccentric Atlanta artist once again sporting blonde hair, which hardcore fans of the “Punk Monk” will undoubtedly associate with the time period leading up to the long-awaited release of Whole Lotta Red when hyped tracks like “Pissy Pamper/Kid Cudi” kept leaking onto the internet.

In the photo’s caption, Playboi Carti writes in his signature chaotic letter case, “LeTs dr0p thiS new Album . w3 noT done.”

For all intents and purposes, this is could very well be an official announcement, or as close as fans will get to one, that the deluxe version of Whole Lotta Redis almost set to release. Longtime fans of Carti know, however, that the Atlanta artist’s new post doesn’t necessarily mean that the album will be arriving anytime soon. Playboi Carti is notorious for last-minute release announcements, so stay tuned as more information regarding “thiS new Album” is sure to come in the following days.

D Smoke Is Unfazed By Those Doubting His Grammy Nom

It must be frustrating for D Smoke, who turned in an impressive and expertly penned project in Black Habits, to see the defiant response to his recent Best Rap Album Grammy nomination. That’s not to say that everybody took issue with his inclusion, which found him honored alongside elite lyricists Freddie Gibbs, Royce Da 5’9″, Jay Electronica, and Nas. But enough people openly pondered about D Smoke’s nomination, including Pop Smoke’s former label head, who condescendingly wondered “Who is D Smoke?”

The Rhythm + Flow winner recently took a moment to chop it up with HipHopDX ahead of the big event, where he proceeded to reflect on some of the controversy surrounding his nomination. But first, he makes it abundantly clear that he still takes pride in Black Habits, as he should; lest we forget that the album shines as a cohesive body of work, with D Smoke providing plenty of stellar lyricism and a keen ear for production.” “Man, I’m still proud of the body of work,” D Smoke tells the publication. “I’m proud that more people will put an ear to it for themselves because of the nomination and because I know what work went into it. With us being nominated, that’s just another milestone. I’m secretly working on another project too, you know what I’m saying?”

“See, I don’t acknowledge the controversy and the mess the same way that I’m sure other people do,” he explains. “Because one, I wasn’t banking on the nomination, but at the same time, I knew that the body of work is worthy of whatever recognition comes. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t change how worthy it was. I don’t look at it from that lens. I know that any one award show can’t acknowledge all of the brilliant music that is out there. Now that there’s music that is incredible and could shift the world, that may never become popular for whatever reason based on what mechanisms are in place. I don’t listen like a civilian, so to speak. I listen with the generals, do you feel me?”

In short, people need to start putting due respect on Black Habits. Look for D Smoke’s big Grammy debut this coming Sunday, March 14th. Should you be looking for more insight into the making of his acclaimed album, check our own interview with the rapper right here.
