DMX Is Set To Be Honored In Yonkers With A Memorial, Per Mayor’s Suggestion: Report

The hip-hop community suffered a crushing blow on Friday (April 9) when DMX’s family confirmed his passing at White Plains Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital a week prior after experiencing an overdose that resulted in a heart attack, later proving to be fatal. Tributes have been pouring in for the rap legend, including a major one from his hometown.

In addition to a statue or street name set to be named after him in Yonkers, the city is also reportedly welcoming his family to hold his memorial service there as well, should they choose to. According to TMZ, a source close to the late rapper’s family confirmed there will be both a private and public memorial and a meeting will be held Monday (April 12) to finalize possible plans for the service. Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano told the publication that he is in support of his family holding the memorial service at Yonkers Raceway, which is the city’s largest outdoor venue.

Spano also tells TMZ he wants to help ensure this happens. He explains the late rapper’s hometown wants to ease the burden on his family as much as possible, offering the door wide open for them to use the space of the massive horse racing facility if they want.

Yonkers Raceway has a seating capacity of 7,500, but due to COVID guidelines, they’d be limited to 20% of that capacity. The Mayor adds that it would be very fitting for people to say goodbye to the rap icon right in the city he was raised in.

A representative for the raceway admits they haven’t received any official inquiries to host a memorial and add they haven’t had any large events since the pandemic began. Regardless of where the family holds the memorial, TMZ reports Yonkers will still honor X with a long-term gesture, such as a street mural, street renaming, or a statue.

We’ll keep you updated on DMX’s possible Yonkers memorial. Of course, our prayers go out to his loved ones during this time.

Aaron Rodgers Reveals Whether He Would Host “Jeopardy” Full Time

Aaron Rodgers is currently in the midst of a two-week stint hosting Jeopardy! and so far, he has received glowing reviews from all of the fans out there. It is quite obvious that Rodgers has a real love for the game show and with every episode, he looks to honor Alex Trebek. At this point, some are even calling for Rodgers to become the full-time host, which would certainly be a pretty impressive sight to see. Of course, there is no guarantee this will happen, especially since Rodgers is kind of an NFL quarterback.

Despite all of this, Rodgers is still interested in the role and he is determined to make it happen. While speaking to The Ringer, Rodgers spoke about how this would be a dream job for him, and based on the filming schedules, he would actually be able to do both football and Jeopardy!

Per Rodgers:

“I don’t think I’d need to give up football to do it. They film 46 days a year. I worked 187 this year in Green Bay. That gives me, eh—[pauses]—178 days to do Jeopardy! So I feel like I could fit 46 into that 178 and make it work. It would be a dream job for sure, and I’m not shy at all about saying I want the job. That’s how I went into it. I want an opportunity to be in the mix.”

Whether or not he gets the job remains to be seen. Regardless, just the thought of Rodgers in the role is quite interesting, and honestly, we hope he gets it.

DMX Provided Hope On The Darkest Days On “Slippin'”

There are few rappers who could say they were able to make a cameo in a Sum 41 music video, star alongside Jet Li on the big screen, and freestyle alongside Jay-Z, all while creating some of the most important music of an era. DMX’s career transcended Yonkers and even hip-hop but it was his honesty, along with his gruff voice, that continues to resonate with fans in the wake of his passing.

Flesh Of My Flesh Blood Of My Blood is an exploration of the many dimensions of X’s character and artistry, from the eerie conversations with the devil on “The Omen” ft. Marilyn Manson showcasing his brilliant writing to lyrically blacking out alongside Jay-Z and The LOX over Swizz production. On “Slippin’,” X provided us with an autobiography of his life of the hardships he faced throughout his life. More importantly, it captured his resilience, strength, and faith. Through that, X has inspired and provided comfort to millions through his words, music, and life story.

RIP DMX.

He’s done pretty well in his chosen field of music, [he] won a Grammy. […] He’s there week in, week out. I’ve been observing him from afar, he has a genuine passion for this. He’s putting the work in, he’s training almost every single day.”

There is no telling how this match works out although if you’re a fan of Bad Bunny, this is about to be a whole lot of fun. Hopefully, he is able to deliver a great performance and shut all of the purists up, once and for all.
