Snakehips & EARTHGANG Unite To Form SNAKEGANG, Drop Their First EP Together
After previous collaborations and a lead single, SNAKEGANG, the formation of Snakehips and EARTHGANG, are here with their first project. Titled SNAKEGANG EP Volume 1, it features the UK electronic Wonder Twins and the eclectic rap duo from Atlanta, Georgia. Both have a tendency to stray away from the norm, so this pairing coming together for a longer-form release makes perfect sense. Sadly, as you can see from the title, this an extended play record, one that consists of five songs. Additionally, you also know that it features a lead-off track. That would be the now closer “Been A Minute…” which features London, England songwriter, Sinead Harnett.
If you were able to check that one out, you will remember that it has a strong dance/disco and electropop vibe. That is exactly what you are getting out of this 13:39 long EP. Overall, this tape isn’t necessarily reinventing the wheel or anything. But what SNAKEGANG does do is bring a nonstop dance party from beginning to end. It’s here to bring fun and hypnotizing grooves and it succeeds in that goal. EARTHGANG has been moving in this direction ever since the release of the single “BLACKLIGHT” in November of last year. That record laned on their early 2024 EP ROBOPHOBIA. Obviously, with this being a Volume 1 for SNAKEGANG, there is a good chance we may get more projects from them in the future. Chris Brown Facing $50 Million Lawsuit Following Alleged Backstage Fight
A meet and greet allegedly turned violent for four Texas men, who claim that they were attacked by members of Chris Brown’s entourage following an altercation backstage at Brown’s concert on Saturday night in Ft. Worth, Texas.
The four men (Larry Parker, Joseph Lewis, Charles Bush, and Da Marcus Powell) are suing Brown, Yella Beezy, Sinko Ceej, and Live Nation Entertainment for $50 million in damages as well as restraining orders against the performers. The plaintiffs argue that they suffered serious injuries that required hospitalization and one plaintiff remains hospitalized (although it is unclear which one it is).
While it is unclear what happened (various accounts have placed the men backstage at the concert with at least one having a verbal interaction), the defendants allege that Brown ordered the attack on them and that they were kicked, punched, and chased by members of Brown’s entourage.
Tony Buzbee, the Houston-based lawyer who is representing the four men, posted the following statement on his Instagram account on Monday (along with a picture of Brown in court from a previous trial):
On Saturday night in Ft. Worth, entertainer Chris Brown, along with his entourage, attacked and brutally beat several men who had just attended his concert. Multiple police reports have been made. At least one of the men beaten remains hospitalized. Chris Brown has a long history of violence. He has been arrested or accused of assault on at least ten occasions. Enough! The Buzbee Law Firm filed suit this morning on behalf of the four men brutalized this last weekend in the hope of obtaining justice for these victims and putting an end, once and for all, to Brown’s intolerable and thuggish behavior.
As of Monday afternoon, Brown had not publicly addressed the situation.
Brown was playing his second night in Ft. Worth as part of his 11:11 tour.

The Four Tops’ Duke Fakir, The Last Original Member Of The Group, Has Died At Age 88
Abdul “Duke” Fakir, who sang in the Four Tops for 70 years, has died at age 88, as the last original member of the group. According to Rolling Stone, his family confirmed to the Associated Press that he died of heart failure today.
In a statement, the family wrote, “We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our loving husband of 50 years, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and forever Four Tops, Abdul Kareem Fakir, better known as Duke. Our hearts are heavy as we mourn the loss of a trailblazer, icon and music legend who, through his 70-year music career, touched the lives of so many as he continued to tour until the end of 2023, and officially retired this year. As the last living founding member of the iconic Four Tops music group, we find solace in Duke’s legacy living on through his music for generations to come.”
The Four Tops was formed in 1953 when its members were students at Detroit’s Pershing High School. The band originally consisted of Fakir, Levi Stubbs, Renaldo “Obie” Benson, and Lawrence Payton. Unlike many bands of the time (especially their labelmates on Motown), the lineup remained consistent throughout its tenure until Peyton died of liver cancer in 1997. Benson and Stubbs passed in 2005 and 2008, respectively, and Fakir continued the group after recruiting a new group of vocalists, who have continued performing to this day. Fakir made it a point not to retire; he only stopped performing in 2023 for medical reasons.
In his 2022 memoir I’ll Be There: My Life With The Four Tops, he wrote, “I’m not going to ever retire. The Lord can retire me, but I’m not going to into the dark night quietly. I know I’m not in the fourth quarter anymore. I’m in overtime.” Through their 70 years, the Four Tops became known for a string of hits, including “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch)” and “Reach Out I’ll Be There,” both Billboard No. 1s, and “Ain’t No Woman (Like The One I’ve Got).”

The 2024 Olympics kick off this Friday in Paris, and one Olympian was given the well-wishes of a luminary supporter, Cardi B. The Bronx rapper gave Sha’Carri Richardson a heartfelt sendoff, writing a touching message calling Richardson a “superhero” alongside a video clip of the two superstars meeting up to get their nails done together.

Kim Burrell Apologizes To The LGBTQ Community For Past Homophonic Remarks
Kim Burrell used her time on stage at the Stellar Awards over the weekend to apologize to the LGBTQ community while accepting the Aretha Franklin Icon Award. In doing so, she said she’s hoping the award can be used as a moment of “bridge-building” as she seeks peace.
“I want to apologize to the LGBTQ community,” she began. “Let’s give them a great big round of applause. We want them to have strength and to sincerely know that we must all do the work to embrace all of God’s people and show forth His love to everyone. I hope that this award and this moment can be the beginning of a bridge-building and listening to each other as we follow peace with all man and develop the character of God, which requires seeing God.”

Kim Burrell Performs At 2024 BMI Trailblazers Of Gospel Music Awards
Burrell previously came under fire in 2017 for labeling homosexuality perverted in a sermon. “Anybody in this room who’s dealing with the homosexual spirit, beg God to free you. Play with it in 2017; you’ll die from it,” she said at the time, as noted by The Jasmine Brand. When pressed over the comments, she initially doubled down on social media by writing: “To every person that is dealing with the homosexual spirit, I love you because God loves you, but God hates the sin in you and me.”

M Night Shyamalan recently discussed Kendrick Lamar making multiple references to his iconic film, The Sixth Sense, amid his feud with Drake during an interview on Way Up With Angela Yee. He appeared on the show alongside his daughter, Saleka. On his diss track, “Euphoria,” Lamar raps: “Am I battlin’ ghost or AI? / N***a feelin’ like Joel Osteen / Funny, he was in a film called A.I. / And my sixth sense tellin’ me to off him.” Additionally, to kick off his hit song, “Not Like Us,” he references the classic line, “I see dead people.”
“We kind of lightly know each other, and I did know [he was a fan],” the legendary director said. “He’s very gracious with me, and I love him.” From there, he recalled the first time he heard Lamar’s “Euphoria” diss track. “The first song [of the Drake disses] ends with it,” he said. “So someone in the office was like, ‘Oh, Kendrick just dropped something and it references one of your [movies].’ I was like, ‘Oh, cool.’ That was before everything blew up.”

Chris Brown & Yella Beezy Sued For Assault After Fort Worth Concert
Chris Brown is once again catching heat. According to a new lawsuit, Brown allegedly orchestrated the assault of several men. According to legal documents first obtained by TMZ Hip Hop, Brown, rapper Yella Beezy, Brown’s entourage lieutenant Sinko Ceej and Live Nation are all facing a lawsuit filed by the four alleged victims. The victims are seeking $50 million in damages.
Brown’s 11:11 Tour arrived at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX on Saturday, July 20. After the show ended, plaintiffs Larry Parker, Joseph Lewis, Charles Bush and Da Marcus Powell claim Brown and his people invited them backstage and escorted them to an area, along with 40 other women, for a post-concert meetup. The plaintiffs say that they grew tired of waiting for Brown to come backstage, so they started to leave, but had the chance to say goodbye to him on their way out. They claim that after the plaintiffs dapped up Brown, a member of Brown’s entourage yelled loudly, asking if Brown forgot that he and Bush had beef. Brown’s attitude reportedly changed, and he allegedly encouraged members of his entourage to beat down Brown. Bush claims that 7-10 people surrounded him and began punching and kicking him.
Chris Brown & Yella Beezy Hit With Allegations
The plaintiffs also allege Chris Brown sent Yella Beezy and other friends to “f*ck up” Larry Parker, chasing him into a dead-end staircase with a locked door. Parker says Beezy and his associates punched and kicked him in his head for over 10 minutes. They also say that Brown encouraged his entourage to violently beat the plaintiffs. Their attorney Tony Buzbee says at least one of them remains hospitalized and vowed to bring Brown to justice. Buzbee previously represented the women who made claims of sexual misconduct against disgraced Cleveland Browns quarterback, Deshaun Watson. Watson settled those lawsuits out of court.
For Brown, this is the latest in a long series of legal troubles. The domestic violence case against pop superstar Rihanna is the most famous example. However, it is far from the only trouble with the law that Brown’s found himself in over the years. Yella Beezy was arrested and charged for sexual assault and child endangerment in 2022. However, Dallas authorities dropped those charges soon after. Brown’s team is yet to comment on the new lawsuit.
