SiR’s Upcoming Toronto Show Was Canceled, Fueling Rumors Of An Anti-TDE Agenda In Drake’s Hometown

Earlier this month, Schoolboy Q had a show in Toronto canceled by its promoter, prompting the South Central rapper to lay the blame on Drake and his recent feud with Q’s former TDE labelmate Kendrick Lamar. Now, Inglewood singer SiR, who is on his Life Is Good tour, was also forced to cancel a show in Drake’s hometown. With the second TDE artist in as many weeks having a concert canceled (and the third from LA), fans — and the performers themselves — are surer than ever that Ontario’s capital city has a TDE ban in place for the foreseeable future.

While there’s no evidence that Drake has actually tampered with TDE’s tours, history — both recent and established — has shown him to be pretty petty, if we’re judging by his musical output to date. He certainly has reason for any potential retaliation; after exchanging a handful of diss tracks with Kendrick (who’s no longer even ON TDE), Kendrick’s song “Not Like Us” became a national phenomenon. Not only did the Compton rapper play the song five times back-to-back at his Ken & Friends Pop Out concert (with his former Top Dawn family on stage), but the song generated a fan made video game and even prompted the LA library to retire one of its mascots.

So, while Drake appears to be taking “Not Like Us” in stride, it does seem like there’s a non-zero chance he’s found a way to get the last laugh, after all.

Jhené Aiko Searches For ‘Guidance’ On Her Gentle New Song, Which She Shared In Two Different Versions

Jhené Aiko has taken to an interesting release strategy for her new songs lately. In January, she released two versions of “Sun/Son,” including a stripped-down, piano ballad edition alongside the original. She continues the trend on her new song, “Guidance,” another gentle ballad that finds the LA singer recognizing, “I got a lot of God in me, and I can stand alone.” In addition to the original, which features a soft beat defined by an acoustic guitar loop, there’s also a piano version, which you can check out below.

It would actually be very cool to see Jhené release her next project in two versions — like a “buy one, get one” sale for music.

While fans await news of this project, Aiko also released videos for Chilombo singles “Surrender” and “Love,” which she filmed to accompany the album four years ago but withheld as a result of the pandemic shutdowns.

The singer is currently playing songs from that album — as well as fan favorites from Sailing Soul(s) and more — on her Magic Hour Tour with fellow hip-hop-influenced soul singers Kiana Ledé and Tink, and rapper Coi Leray. However, despite the peaceful lineup, the tour hasn’t been without some discord, as seen at the recent Atlanta stop. You can recenter, though, by listening to “Guidance” above.

Big Sean Has Left Roc Nation After Over 10 Years To Sign With A New Management Company

Big Sean has a new album, Better Me Than You, coming out soon, and this week he announced that he also has new representation to go along with it, leaving his old management company after 10 years. Sean was previously managed by Roc Nation, but from now on he’ll be represented by S10 Entertainment’s Brandon Silverstein, according to Billboard. The rapper told the trade, “Brandon shares the vision, understands where I’m headed, and I’m incredibly excited to work with him and the S10 team.”

Meanwhile, Silverstein said, “Big Sean is an incredible talent who, even after topping charts, breaking records, winning awards and headlining across the world, is just getting started. I can’t wait for fans to hear the new music.”

That new music is due in early August, but some fans were able to hear it early after it was allegedly leaked online by a Kanye West fan who was angry about Sean’s recent freestyle for the On The Radar Radio show. While some fans think that the music was leaked by Kanye himself, Sean dismissed that theory as “bullsh*t.” He appears to be taking everything in stride and forging ahead with the new album, as well as features on songs from DJ Premier (“Ya Don’t Stop“) and Eminem (“Tobey“).

Usher has had a massive past year that saw him perform the Super Bowl Halftime Show, release his new album Coming Home, and so much more. Usher’s not stopping, either, as he just announced Usher: Rendezvous In Paris, a new concert film.

The film, directed by Anthony Mandler, is currently set for a limited run from September 12 to 15, screening in 2,000 theaters worldwide, with about 1,000 of those in the US. Global screening details and ticketing information will be available on the movie’s website starting on August 6 at 9 a.m. ET.

Per a press release, the film “incorporates the essence of his landmark cultural phenomenon Vegas residencies into a seductive French touch confession” and features the songs “Yeah!,” “My Boo,” “Love In This Club,” and others “performed with never-before-seen costumes and state-of-the-art lighting and special effects.” The film also promises to give “audiences a glimpse inside life beyond the stage — creating a global moment that moviegoers won’t want to miss.”

Usher says in a statement, “Paris was a special experience for me as an entertainer and for my fans. I hope those who weren’t able to make it in person get to experience how special it was. As for those of you who were, I hope you experience the show and see what it takes to get there through a different lens.”

Wack 100 Responds To Meghann Cuniff’s Comments About Him Allegedly Lying About Tory Lanez Case

Wack 100 talked about the Tory Lanez trial, again. Lanez has been in prison since September 2023. The court found him guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion at a party in 2020. Prior to his conviction, he made several decisions that most would consider poor ones, including releasing an album that addresses the shooting on almost every song.

In February, Wack 100 claimed that there was reportedly a video of the incident that had yet to be publicly released. He also claimed that the video would be the end of Megan Thee Stallion’s career. Fans poked holes in the story. People noted that if such a video existed, a celebrity gossip outlet like TMZ probably would have spared no expense to uncover it. Months later, Wack 100 is reiterating his claims of the existence of a video in his latest appearance on DJ Vlad’s YouTube channel. He claims that it has not been released because an underage Asian person filmed it. He also claims the family is reluctanct to allow usage in court. Wack added that Los Angeles continues to feel the effects of events like the Rodney King riots. According to him, that contributed to the unwillingness of the family to get involved.

Wack 100 Speaks On Alleged Recording Of Tory Lanez

Wack 100 previously asserted that Megan Thee Stallion lied about being shot. In the above clip, he tells a story about how “humble” and “quiet” Lanez was when he introduced him to Kanye West in Miami. He considers Lanez a friend, so him favoring his friend is to be expected. However, it has been almost a year since Lanez began his prison sentence. There is no indication that a video like the one he mentioned exists.

Lanez recently released Prison Tapes, an album recorded over the last few months. Despite his charges, fans of his are still loyal to him. Two people recently yelled “Free Tory” at Megan Thee Stallion, which prompted a funny response from her. Meanwhile, Megan herself has had a successful year. Her latest album, Megan, went over well with her fans. Her Hot Girl Summer Tour started in May, and concludes at Lollapalooza on August 1. We’ll see how Lanez’s appeal goes.

Foolio Murder: Police Arrest 4th Suspect Amid Investigation

Police have arrested a fourth suspect, 30-year-old Rashad Murphy, in the killing of Foolio. The update comes following the announcement of the arrests of three previous suspects on Monday morning. Foolio was shot and killed in Tampa, Florida while celebrating his 26th birthday.

In a statement put out by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on social media, they revealed that they tracked Murphy to an apartment complex on Monday night. “JSO CPR, Gang, and SWAT units surrounded the unit and helped evacuate nearby residents,” the statement explained. “After hours of negotiators attempting to talk Murphy out, with assistance from patrol and the UAS Unit, SWAT operators used tactics to force the man out. Murphy surrendered just after midnight.” Police are still looking for a fifth suspect they believe to have been involved in the shooting. “There’s no place you’ll be able to hide if you commit crime in Jacksonville or any other city in the state of Florida,” said Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters.

Police Arrest 4th Suspect

Police Announce Initial Arrests

In addition to announcing arrests in the killing, police also shared security camera footage from the incident on Monday. The clips of the attack have been going viral for how detailed and clear they are. R Kelly Uses Statute Of Limitations Argument Against Supreme Court For Sex Charges

In February of 2023, highly maligned R&B singer R Kelly was handed down a 20-year prison sentence for possessing child pornography and inducing minors. That was tacked onto his 30-year bout on racketeering and sex trafficking charges in a New York federal court in 2022. None of this is obviously breaking news, but this short amount of background information is important. The reason being is because there is a new update in regard to the former of the two.

According to TMZ, the artist and his attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, are looking to whittle down his overall time behind bars by using the statute of limitations argument. Since these crimes took place in the 1990s, they feel that the PROTECT Act (2003) does not apply here. Bonjean pointed a specific detail of this law which is that there is no clause that says you can essentially charge someone for an alleged conduct that before the year the act was passed. However, it isn’t necessarily black and white for this reason.

R Kelly & His Attorney Feel The PROTECT Act Shouldn’t Be Applied

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – JUNE 26: R&B singer R. Kelly covers his mouth as he speaks to members of his entourage as he arrives at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building for a hearing on June 26, 2019 in Chicago, Illinois. Kelly is facing several counts of aggravated sexual abuse. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images)

If you remember, R Kelly was convicted for these crimes in 2020. Because of this, prosecutors believe the PROTECT Act is in fact fair play. Also helping their side is the fact that this law extends the statute of limitations indefinitely for alleged crimes committed post 2003. The Supreme Court will come to a conclusion in the next few months whether to hear Kelly’s appeal or not.

What are your thoughts on R Kelly and his attorney making the statute of limitations argument? Do you think they have a point in regard to the PROTECT Act not applying here? Or does the court have more of a solid argument? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments.
