The disappointing Hot 100 debut comes after Nas faced plenty of backlash for the music video associated with the song. Many voices on social media, including Boosie Badazz, felt it was disrespectful to Christianity. Nas eventually explained his thinking and apologized for some of his behavior while promoting the release. “I wanted to explain where my head at and where it’s been for the last week,” he said online. “First of all, when I did the artwork, I knew there would be some upset people, simply because religion is a very sensitive topic for a lot of people. But I also didn’t mean to mock — this wasn’t like a, ‘F*ck you to you people! F*ck you to Christians!’ It was not that. It was literally me saying, ‘Oh, I’m back like Jesus.’”

Nas also apologized for a video of him eating several communion wafers. “I will say, though, with the communion video with me eating the crackers and juice, I thought that video was gonna lighten the mood, to take it down less serious … I do apologize for that,” he added. “I am sorry for that. That was overboard.” Be on the lookout for further updates on Lil Nas X on HotNewHipHop.

JT Puts Fan On Blast For Calling Lil Uzi Vert Gay

JT and Lil Uzi Vert’s relationship hasn’t always been smooth sailing. During some of the darker moments unfolding in the public eye, the City Girls rapper threw a phone at Uzi during a viral fight at the BET Awards. A few months ago Uzi gave a status update on the relationship. At the time they described it as not being “in the best shape.” But despite that, the pair have often come to each other’s defense publicly. JT stood up for Uzi’s right to go by whatever pronouns they want when their decision was criticized by fans.

Similarly, when a fan recently tried to take aim at Lil Uzi Vert’s sexuality, their girlfriend had something to say. Alongside Paris Fashion Week, Marc Jacobs released a bizarre new promo video featuring Uzi. In the clip, he carries a multi-layered cake into an elevator while clearly struggling to keep it upright. One particular fan reposted the video to their Instagram story with a curious caption. They accuse Uzi of being gay claiming that they can’t be convinced otherwise concluding their caption by saying that she needs a new partner. But when the City Girls rapper clapped back at the overly aggressive fan it caused them to have a bit of a meltdown. Check out their response below.

JT Stands Up For Lil Uzi Vert

After JT puts the fan posting about Lil Uzi in their place via Instagram DMs, things start to get a bit unhinged. “Why are you being mean to me I’m your biggest fan” they reply. It’s a sentiment they double down on in a distraught video they posted speaking directly to her favorite rapper. Fand couldn’t help but laugh at just how bizarre the entire interaction is.

Many fans are hoping that JT follows up the new City Girls album from last year with a solo project. She’s already begun teasing new music of her own coming soon. Chlöe Bailey Told Halle To Ignore Social Media In Order To Keep Her Pregnancy The ‘Best Kept Secret Ever’

Uproxx cover star Chlöe Bailey did a recent interview with People Magazine, where she discussed her sister Halle’s pregnancy and how they tried to hide it until she was ready to share her baby with the world. As Chlöe put it, it was the “best kept secret ever.”

“We just ignore it,” she shared. “I would tell her, like, take social media off your phone, you know, I keep all her other secrets. So this was just another one in the books.”

Chlöe herself is also “on cloud nine” about the fact that she’s now an aunt. Halle and her boyfriend, DDG, welcomed their son, Halo, which they revealed earlier this month through an Instagram post.

Both the sisters are still keeping busy. Chlöe performed at the Urban One Honors: Best In Black event. Halle is set to host a Masterclass that fans can livestream, which will be part of the festivities for Grammy Week. More information about that can be found here.

Chlöe also recently teased during a TikTok livestream that the two could be reuniting to put out some new music. Both sisters worked on their solo projects, with Chlöe dropping In Pieces, and Halle appearing as the lead in the live-action Little Mermaid.

Lil Wayne Offered An Intriguing, ‘Historical’ Explanation For People Hating On Drake

Ever since Drake’s breakout hit, “Best I Ever Had,” some hip-hop fans have found any reason they could to justify their hate for the Canadian hitmaker. From demeaning his upbringing and early career as a child actor to outdated and regressive homophobic attacks to Yasiin Bey’s pseudo-intellectual take, Drake haters will seemingly always find a reason for dumping on the For All The Dogs rapper.

But all those reasons are just a smokescreen for one, real reason — at least, according to Drake’s longtime mentor, benefactor, and frequent collaborator, Lil Wayne. The New Orleans icon offered an intriguing, “historical” explanation for people hating on Drake during a recent podcast interview which was surfaced by HipHopDX earlier this week. Appearing on The Richard Sherman Podcast (there are TOO MANY PODCASTS), Wayne gave his simple take for all the disrespect:

“He red, he light-skinned,” Wayne conjectured. “That’s just American history. How I know is, because I’m not light-skinned. I hated on all light-skinned dudes in school. So yeah, it’s American history, man.”

While I’m sure there’s more to it than that (at least, for some people), colorism has been a longstanding issue in the music industry. And just speaking for personal experience, there does appear to be a certain amount of resentment that manifests as mean-spirited “jokes” and well-worn stereotypes. But then again, it seems like everyone has to deal with some version of this, so maybe Drake’s status as a relatable superstar remains intact, after all.

Check out the video of the interview below.

T-Pain Said He Nearly Had A Song With Michael Jackson And Usher, But One Person Ruined Everything

The music industry is full of stories of near-misses and “almost weres.” It’s the nature of the business — especially for most of its history, when things had to be done without the benefit of advanced computers and high-speed internet — that things get lost, tapes get damaged, calls get missed, and egos clash, resulting in some fascinating projects behing scrapped or forgotten.

In the case of T-Pain missing out on his chance to collaborate with the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, the Tallahassee native had a great story for his fans — although it has a miserable ending for Pain himself. During a recent livestream that he clipped and shared to other social media, T-Pain remembered how his opportunity to work with MJ and Usher on a song during his career peak was derailed by an overzealous collaborator.

Before playing a snippet of the song for his viewers, he prefaced it with the story of why it was never released. “We are about to listen to a song that I wrote and produced that was meant for me, Usher, and Michael Jackson,” he said. “And then the person that was in charge of doing the references and the person that sang it got too excited and was like, ‘N****, I’m on a song with Michael Jackson and Usher and T-Pain!’ And then he released it and then Michael Jackson was like, ‘Nah, never mind. I don’t wanna do it anymore.’ Yeah, that pissed me off. Not gonna lie to ya.”

Talk about “pain.” Fortunately, T-Pain’s got a list of collaborators about a mile long — and that’s before you get to all the people he accidentally ghosted that time — so he still did okay. He’s also experiencing something like his fourth career resurgence thanks to a live performance of his 2023 covers album that keeps going viral and drawing attention from artists like Ozzy Osbourne. While it probably doesn’t completely make up for missing out on working with one legend, T-Pain keeps pumping out hits and becoming one in his own right. Check out the video of T-Pain telling the story below.

Grammy season is underway. As the events are rolling out, members of the Recording Academy are looking forward to enriching their minds with music knowledge and creativity.

“I am so excited for this second installment of Grammy House,” Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy, said in a statement (via Billboard). “The response last year from younger fans and artists just starting their relationship with the Recording Academy was overwhelming, and we’re a better organization because of the increased engagement with them. I’m grateful for the amazing artists and partners who are helping make this year’s Grammy House an even bigger success.”

One of the Grammy Week events includes a special Masterclass with singer and actress Halle Bailey. Members of Grammy U will be able to attend the Masterclass in person by invitation only. The good news for non-members is that they will be able to livestream the event on Friday, February 2 at 1 p.m. PT, via the Grammy Awards’ YouTube and Twitch channels.

Over the course of the past year, Halle Bailey, who performs under the stage name Halle, starred in two movie musicals — The Little Mermaid and The Color Purple released her solo debut single, “Angel.” She has proven to be quite successful in both music and film, and while it’s not clear what her Masterclass will be about, she’ll surely have some valuable insight to offer.

Halle’s Masterclass is just one of a handful of Grammy Week events from the Recording Academy, so learn more about what else is going on here.
