Beyonce And Kelly Rowland Join Forces To Help The Unhoused

Beyonce and Kelly Rowland are reportedly teaming up in the fight against homelessness. According to reports, the former Destiny’s Child performers are working alongside Harris County officials to create over 30 permanent housing units in the Midtown neighborhood of Houston, TX. County leaders plan on using $7.2 million in funding from the American Rescue Plan to develop the housing complex. The housing complex is set to be built at the Bread of Life gymnasium at 2019 Crawford Street.

Judge Lina Hidalgo spoke on the project earlier this week at a press conference. “Harris County and the city of Houston, jointly with the coalition for the homeless, have reduced homelessness in the middle of the pandemic by 20 percent, and we’ve been able to hold that reduction,” she explained. Hidalgo continued, “It’s initiatives like this one I certainly will be supportive of no matter who’s behind it, but it’s especially interesting, I think, because there are these names of Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland, who, of course, have been supportive of the community for a very long time.”

The Project Will See An “Even Bigger Launch” In September

Hidalgo additionally claimed that the housing units would see an “even bigger launch” in September. Beyonce’s “RENAISSANCE” tour is scheduled to stop in Houston on September 23. Harris County records also reveal that residents of the new development will gain access to a slew of resources. Resources include “case managers, peer specialists, service specialists, and support services.” Services also include “transportation, mental health, physical and behavioral health support.”

Local pastor and executive director of Bread of Life, Rudy Rasmus, described himself as “grateful” for the upcoming development. He claims the collaboration was sparked by Destiny’s Child donating money from their 1998 hit, “No, No, No,” to build a youth center in Houston. Rasmus explained, “This will be our fifth housing development in downtown in Precinct 1 over these last 17 years.” He says that he’s “just really grateful to continue to help end homeless in our county.”

Cardi B Reflected On The Backlash To Her Grammys Performance Of ‘WAP’: ‘Y’all Remember? Cuz I Do’

“Y’all remember when the FCC almost sued me cuz I performed WAP at the Grammys?” Cardi B asked on Twitter today. “What about when all the republicans literally harassed me over it? On the news everyday… Y’all remember? Oooohhh cuz I do.”

Cardi is, of course, reflecting on the weeks-long backlash to the 2021 Grammy Awards performance of her raunchy hit song, “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion. While the news cycle has long since moved on, with conservative commentators finding plenty of other outrage-bait with which they could incite their audience, Cardi B — like Pepperidge Farms — remembers the aggravation they heaped on her for the audacity of celebrating her sexuality as a woman in the public eye.

In case you forgot, here’s a recap: After the show-stopping performance, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson worried that “WAP” would “hurt our children” on his show — while playing nearly the entire titillating performance from the night before, conservative grifter Candace Owens called the show an “attack on American values,” and the Federal Communications Commission supposedly fielded over 1,000 complaints of indecency (complaints Cardi herself laughed off).

What was the reason for all this faux consternation? Cardi’s theory is that “they secretly like it.” They definitely seemed to enjoy the attention (and advertising dollars) complaining about it brought them, but since then, Tucker’s been fired, Candace is now agreeing with Cardi, and the Republican political apparatus has turned its ire against drag shows — which is going about as well as you’d think. It just goes to show, you don’t want to get on Cardi’s bad side; even when she wins, she doesn’t let anything go.

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

John Legend And Chrissy Teigen Had A New Baby, Their Fourth, Just Five Months After Their Third

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s family has grown a lot lately. On January 13, Teigen gave birth to daughter Esti Maxine Stephens. Now, only five months later, they’ve added Wren Alexander Stephens to the family. Wren, a boy, was born on June 19 via a surrogate.

Legend kept his announcement social post simple, sharing a few photos of the baby and his family, and writing, “Wren Alexander Stephens, our new love.”

For her post, Teigen went more in depth. In it, she explained how she’s always wanted to have four children, losing a previous baby to pregnancy complications, and what led to Wren:

“After losing Jack, I didn’t think I’d be able to carry any more babies on my own. To be honest, I’ve personally blocked out a lot of my mindset during that time, but one clear memory is being surrounded by people who wanted to make sure I wouldn’t go through that pain and loss again.

In 2021, we reached out to a surrogacy agency, with our first correspondence inquiring about perhaps having 2 tandem surrogates, to each bring us a healthy baby boy or girl. Twins, kinda?!

At some point, early in our surrogacy journey, I came out of a therapy session, walked downstairs and said to John — I want to try to carry just one more time. If it doesn’t work, we will be okay. We’ve already seen the worst. I promised I would be okay no matter what happened. I remember saying I just couldn’t go on wondering my whole life if I should have tried again.

And so we restarted the IVF process, the same process that gave us our beautiful Luna and Miles. We made new embryos. We did my transfer, and were so happy to learn it worked — we were pregnant with our little girl, Esti.

Around this same time, we also met the most incredible, loving, compassionate surrogate we could ever imagine, Alexandra. I knew she was a perfect match for us the moment we spoke to her. All our wishes and dreams aligned. I wanted to be her friend, I wanted our children to play, I wanted dinner together, I wanted to lay my head on her belly and be able to feel the hiccups and kicks. I wanted them to be in our lives for as long as time would allow.”

After sharing about the birth, she continued, “We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra. And we are so happy to tell the world he is here, with a name forever connected to you, Wren Alexander Stephens. Our hearts, and our home, are officially full. And to our Jack, we know both their angel kisses are from you.”

Patrick Star From ‘SpongeBob Squarepants’ Is On TikTok Singing Classic R&B Songs Thanks To AI, And People Love It

In a truly wild set of words for 2023, Patrick Star from Spongebob Squarepants (yes, the cartoon starfish) is now a viral TikTok trend. Why? Users are making the character sing the biggest R&B hits through AI technology.

While it’s just an attempt at the character’s voice and not really the greatest considering, many TikTok accounts are still having fun playing around to see how he sounds on different tracks. One of those doing it, user @twrksumn and her added account @aiquietstorm, has put Patrick with everything from Anita Baker’s “Angel” to Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart.”

“Patrick doing gospel and R&B now,” one person wrote under the Baker video with a bunch of laughing emojis.

“It’s giving Michael McDonald,” another user commented on a different video, which inspired the poster to make Patrick play his song, “I Keep Forgettin.”

Replying to @Almira Ara and now he’s giving Michael McDonald for real.

Another popular profile getting in on the Patrick craze is @martinluthervandrossjr, has added some edited memes of Patrick and Spongebob to go along with the AI vocals.

As the trend gains more traction, users are waiting to hear their favorite artists get an AI cover turn — or even hear other characters perform from the Bikini Bottom universe.
