Following the tragic death of Nipsey Hussle in 2019, a man convicted of fatally shooting the rapper and local hero will likely be sentenced to life in prison. The sentencing will take place Wednesday in a Los Angeles courtroom.

In July, Eric R. Holder Jr., 32, was found guilty of the first-degree murder of 33 year old Hussle. He was also convicted of two counts of attempted voluntary manslaughter and two counts of assault with a firearm for gunfire that struck two additional men at the scene who survived. The shooting took place outside the clothing store Hussle founded, the Marathon, in the South Los Angeles neighborhood where both men grew up.

Delayed sentencing has resulted in defense attorney Aaron Jansen moving for Superior Court Judge H. Clay Jacke to reduce Holder’s conviction to manslaughter or second-degree murder. However, the judge rejected this motion in December.

Judge Jacke will sentence Holder Thursday morning at the hearing. The murder conviction bears 25 years to life, while the other convictions insinuate life in prison when measured next to special sentencing circumstances found true by the jurors. Yet, Holder is not battling the death penalty.

Following the verdict, lead prosecutor and Deputy District Attorney John McKinney said, “We hope that there is some resounding peace in the fact that his killer will be in prison likely for the rest of his life.”

Hussle’s wife and mother of two children, Lauren London, did not attend any part of the trial. Overwhelming amounts of evidence against Holder are present– from eyewitnesses to surveillance cameras from local businesses that captured his arrival, the shooting and his departure — that his attorney conceded during trial that he had shot Hussle.

Just six hours after deliberations, the jury returned with a first-degree murder verdict. Jansen argued to jurors that feverish circumstances of the shooting should equal a  lesser verdict of voluntary manslaughter. An impromptu meeting in a shopping center Hussle owned, led to a conversation between Hussle and Holder regarding the rumors that Holder had been acting as an informant for authorities. Jansen argued that being publicly accused of being a “snitch” by a person as prominent and beloved as Hussle brought on a “heat of passion” in Holder that prompted the shooting.

A woman who was with Holder that day snapped a photo with Hussle before becoming Holder’s unknowing getaway driver. She  was a key witness for the prosecution.

Jansen said afterward that he was “deeply disappointed” in the verdict, which they planned to appeal. The sentencing, originally scheduled for September was postponed at the request of the defense. Now three years later, it is coming to an end.

Bas, Black Sherif, And Kel-P Put Their ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears’ Into The ‘Creed III’ Soundtrack’s Second Single

Michael B. Jordan may have let it slip that Dreamville boss J. Cole was executive producing the soundtrack to his directorial debut film, Creed III, but ever since, he has remained tight-lipped. The project’s first single, “Ma Boy,” featuring JID and Lute, was shared earlier this month, and now as the movie’s opening week approaches, another track from the soundtrack has hit the internet.

The latest track, “Blood, Sweat, & Tears,” by Dreamville’s own Bas and Ghanaian recording artist Black Sherif featuring Nigerian producer Kel-P, is the epitome of the film’s plot, in which Adonis Creed’s (played by Jordan) legacy is being threatened by his former childhood friend Damian (played by Jonathan Majors). The pair will, as the trailer outlines, “reconnect in the ring, setting up a delicious dichotomy between loyalty and betrayal.”

Bas opens the track with a declaration of faith as he raps, “I’ve been waitin’ all my life, I’ve been spendin’ all my nights / Contemplatin’ all my trails, oh my God, this not overnight / I’ve been givin’ all my soul, I’ve been chasin’ all my goals / Dedication all I know, that’s how hard I go,” which could be a first-hand account from the fictional and namesake character.

On the chorus, Black Sherif joins in for a combined chanting of, “Blood sweat and my tears, no, I will not surrender/ If you take my lead then we can fly together / Heaven never seem to reach, it’s now or never / We got what we need, but we don’t got forever,” which will send chills down your spine if you’re a big fan of climatic cinema as it creates suspense for what’s to come in the film.

Listen to the full track above.

Creed III hits theaters on 3/3.

Lizzo Says That 2023 Is The Year Of SZA: ‘You Will Always Be The One’

Earlier this month, Lizzo shared a “Special” remix featuring SZA. The crossover was expected since SZA revealed in an interview in December that the pair recorded at least five or sings songs together.

“She’s another person who has hella [wide] music tastes and doesn’t fit in anybody’s box of anything,” SZA said about Lizzo in that interview. “She makes it seem like she doesn’t even care, like she just does whatever she wants. And I just love being with her, just as a friend and hanging out. So whenever she comes to a studio, I just feel like, ‘Let’s drop into some bullsh*t.’”

Now, Lizzo is singing SZA’s praises. In a new article on Billboard celebrating SZA’s status as their Woman Of The Year, Lizzo shared some kind words about the “Kill Bill” singer. “I declare 2023 the year of SZA. But SZA has been Woman Of The Year for me for at least a decade,” she said. “I’m always such a fan of her music, a fan of her artistry, but I really love her as a friend. Solána Imani Rowe, you will always be ‘the one.’”

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Usher Was So Blown Away By A K-Pop Group’s Concert That It Inspired His Own Shows

In honor of Usher’s Vegas residency, the R&B icon did an interview with GQ, revealing some interesting anecdotes along the way. Particularly, one about how his teenage sons took him to a truly special show that changed his outlook — and possibly converted him into a K-pop stan.

“I literally went to a Blackpink concert in Atlanta, and I was like, man!” Usher said. “I’m goofy! I’m looking like, ‘Wow, this is amazing.’  They were putting on a show. Wardrobe, great sequencing, with the lighting and everything working in sync — there’s no detail spared. I loved that.”

The piece also notes that he thoroughly enjoyed Blackpink’s choreography and all the pieces that went into their concert. Usher goes on to touch on how this ties into his intentions for each of his “My Way” residency performances — titled after his second album from 1997.

He notes that he wanted it to cater to the ladies attending and bringing his level of perfectionism to the Park MGM.

“I really wanted to give women something to look forward to, something to come here to Las Vegas with their friends for,” he shared. “They’ve been saving up all year and were able to manage to get away from their kids or get away from their problems.”

“They come out and really enjoy themselves for the entire weekend. They want to be able to really get away and have an experience,” Usher added.

Usher’s shows are picking back up in March and will run through July. More information is available here.

Natalie Nunn Apologizes To Chris Brown Following Tommie Lee’s Outburst

Natalie Nunn is among those who’ve publicly taken issue with Tommie Lee’s recent behavior. Last night, the Love & Hip Hop star faced backlash following an apparent interaction with Chris Brown’s son backstage at a concert. Apparently, Lee spotted Aeko backstage, and pointed it out before someone from Chris Brown’s camp slammed the door on her. Things took a turn for the worse with an alleged physical altercation breaking out.

However, Tommie wasn’t necessarily apologetic for her actions. In fact, she was quite the opposite. As Natalie Nunn and others who were with her condemned her actions, she went even further when she hopped on Live Stream to address the matter. Tommie cussed out Breezy, Ammika Harris, who she claimed slammed the door on her, and their son. “I don’t care about your baby. F*ck your baby,” she said. “And f*ck his daddy, too. The f*ck? Really. Like, girl. I ain’t pressed ’bout no motherf*ckin baby. F*ck him. All y’all look albino as f*ck. F*ck all y’all motherf*ckers.”

Natalie Nunn Can’t Wait To See Tommie Lee In The Ring

Natalie Nunn got Tommie Lee backstage to the Chris Brown concert, so she definitely felt some type of way about how things panned out. She hopped on Instagram afterward, blasting Lee for commenting on Aeko, while apologizing to Breezy and his team on behalf of Zeus. “Your disgusting,” Nunn wrote on Instagram. “I apologize to the entire CB team we at Zeus do not condone this type of behavior like girl keep ppls kids out of your mouth! Imma buss your shit on Saturday.”

Nunn’s eyeing her get back this weekend when she and Tommie Lee enter the boxing ring for their long-awaited celebrity match up. The two agreed to the boxing match in 2021, but there have been a handful of delays since then. Clearly, this will present the ideal opportunity for Nunn to smack Lee for her comments about Chris Brown’s son, as Sada Baby suggested should have been done. “It woulda happened in Detroit wit out her gettin smacked at least. Not saying I woulda did it but I wouldn’t have had to. It’s just the principle,” Sada said on Instagram. Check out Nunn’s comments above.

ESPN Reveals Why Bronny James Jr. Is Top 10 In 2024 Mock Draft

Bronny James Jr. is easily the biggest name in the entire high school basketball scene. This has been true over the last three years. Overall, it is very easy to see why this is the case. After all, Bronny is the son of LeBron James. Moreover, LeBron has made it clear that he wants to play on the same court as Bronny. This means whoever drafts Bronny will also likely get LeBron. This puts a lot of pressure on the 18-year-old to succeed, as a ton of people have him pegged for the biggest league in the world.

Moving forward, James has a big decision to make as it pertains to where he will go to school. There are plenty of options for him out there. Although, it seems like Oregon, USC, and Ohio State are the three teams that he is taking a closer look at. Either way, the young star has big expectations to live up to, and the recent mock draft from ESPN is not making it any easier. As you can see in the tweet below, Bronny is now projected to be a top-10 pick. In this particular draft, Bronny would be on the Orlando Magic.

Bronny Going Top 10?

According to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Bronny is well-deserving of this spot in the mock draft. Of course, because of who Bronny is, many were shocked by the high ranking. Although, Givony gave a good explanation as to why the oldest James brother would end up so high. “Bronny James is now a projected top-10 pick thanks to the significant jump he’s made at Sierra Canyon, developing into arguably the best perimeter defender in his class while making strides with his shooting and playmaking,” he wrote.

Overall, it is clear that Bronny is being heralded for his abilities as a two-way player. While he is by no means the best scorer in his class, he can definitely prove himself as a solid point guard. Hopefully, he has a great season in college that proves to NBA scouts that he is, indeed, the real deal. Let us know what you think of the ESPN ranking, in the comments below.
