On this date in 1998, Terror Squad general Fat Joe released his third full length album Don Cartagena on the Atlantic/Big Beat/Terror Squad imprint.

On his first “official” release of Terror Squad as a crew and label, Fat Joe garnered the support from his then TS crew Armageddon, Triple Seis, Cuban Link and new recruit standout Big Punisher to pull together a superstar-laden album that would catapult TS to an equal level of success. With Pun’s almost overnight stardom from the smash single “Still Not A Player”, it gave Joe the leeway to bring in the rest of the crew sans Remy Ma, who was in Bedford Hill Correctional Facility. Singles such as “Bet Ya Man Can’t (Triz)” and “The Hidden Hand” left fans looking for that Terror Squad album with the original cast members, but internal strife only allowed those tracks to bring those thoughts into fruition. The real album feature was of course the Ski-produced “John Blaze”, which featured Nas, Jadakiss, Raekwon and Pun, is still considered one of the greatest joint tracks ever laid.

The album’s commercial success reflected the response from the fans, being Joe’s first top ten Billboard 200 release, grabbing a A- from EW and selling 100,000 in its first week was right in line of the thinking of The Don. Within a month, Don Cartagena was certified gold by the RIAA.

Salute to Joe, Pun(RIP), the entire original Terror Squad, Just Blaze, Dame Grease, Preemo and everyone else involved in the making of this Hip Hop classic!

Lil Baby & QC Meet With Stacey Abrams

Lil Baby is has certainly reached full rockstar status.

After grinding his way from the streets of Atlanta to the top of the rap game, the 27-year old star is now focused on building the next phase of his career outside of rap. Recently, Baby has received much praise for his biographical documentary, Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby, which gave fans a glimpse at the life of Grammy winning rapper, real name Dominique Armani Jones. Critics and viewers praised the father of two for his “transformational journey” from local Atlanta hustler to one of the biggest stars in hip hop right now.

Judging by the “Drip Too Hard” rappers recent moves, it’s safe to say that he doesn’t plan on slowing down any time soon. On Wednesday, he and his QC label heads Coach K and P met up with Georgia governor candidate Stacey Abrams to talk politics and why the Governor’s role is important to the community. “At some point, you don’t even understand that this type of stuff goes on,” Lil Baby shared. “So it’s interesting to me to see how the world really works. Like what’s really going on.”

Baby’s meeting comes on the heels of drama that was once brewing with Quality Control behind the scenes, now making its way to the media. Last month, after Offset filed a lawsuit against the label, fans accused the “Emotionally Scarred” rapper of taunting the former Migos member in an Instagram video posted by P.

Neither parties have spoken about the video. However, P took to social media to address Offset’s lawsuit, stating, “The last lawsuit was filed publicly and dismissed quietly. Let’s see how this one go. Been to real for all this lame shit. Everyone know the real problem.”

50 Cent Blasts Trey Songz, Bans Him From Tycoon Weekend

Everyone knows it’s not a good idea to be on 50 Cent’s bad side.

Being blasted on the Power creator’s Instagram page is the last thing celebs want to see when they open their phones. Sometimes it’s pure jokes when 50 targets someone. Then other times it means you owe him money. Trey Songz may not owe the music mogul any cash, but judging by 50’s recent post, the “Neighbors Know My Name” crooner is definitely on his social media hit list. On Thursday (September 1), the Branson Cognac founder took to IG to let it be known that he’s banning Trey Songz from his annual Tycoon weekend event over his “crazy” behavior.

“Last TYCOON he crashed a Wraith,” 50 wrote. “This TYCOON he was acting crazy, wanting to fight and shit over the girls. He broke some sh*** up in his room. Nah tell @treysongz he can’t come. SMH.”

Trey Songz has been keeping a low profile this year after several women came forward accusing the star of sexual assault. However, last month, a woman named Mariah Thielen came forward in defense the singer, claiming that her lawyer bribed her to say bad things about him. She says her lawyered offered her up to $200,000 to she witnessed Trey Songz assault her friend, Jauhara Jeffries.

As for his relationship with 50 Cent, the two have worked together musically in the past. In 2019, 50 used Trey’s version of “Big Rich Town” as the theme song for season six of Power. Ultimately it was scrapped from the show and replaced with the original version, featuring Joe, after fans complained.

Trey Songz has yet to share his side of what down during Tycoon weekend. Thoughts?

The Game Speaks On Kids Comparing NBA YoungBoy To 2Pac: “[Kids] Can Not Relate To 2Pac”

The Game may be a seasoned veteran in the industry, but he’s also still a fan.

Whether it’s through interviews, social media or his music, “The Black Slim Shady” rapper loves to share his thoughts and opinions on all things related to Hip Hop culture. While working on his tenth and most recent album Drillmatic: Heart vs. Mind, Game got to work alongside some of the genres up and coming heavyweights, including Fivio Foreign and NBA YoungBoy. Although his song with YoungBoy didn’t make the album due to financial reasons, the West Coast emcee still considers him one of the hottest young stars out.

In a recent interview, Game spoke out about the phenomenon behind the 22-year old Baton Rouge rapper and his fans claiming that he’s better than Tupac Shakur. “NBA YoungBoy would be Tupac of this generation,” he shared. “So sometimes when you see a 18-year old kid say ‘NBA YoungBoy is better than Tupac,’ it’s not because he actually is. It’s just the Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, Lebron thing. It’s different eras of greatness.”

Game went on to say that fans should “just appreciate [the greats] now,” adding, “A 18-year old can not appreciate or relate to Tupac, because they weren’t even alive. Tupac has been dead for 26 years. An 18-year old kid wasn’t born for six years after he died, so why expect him to relate to Tupac over NBA YoungBoy? Somebody that’s just a few years older than him, who he listens to everyday.”

The Drilmatic rapper released his 29-track album without “O.P.P.” featuring NBA YoungBoy. He also removed “World Tours” with Nipsey Hussle after the late rappers estate removed his verse. Do you agree with The Game’s thoughts on Tupac and YoungBoy?

Kodak Black Plays Football With Florida Youth & Wins: Watch

Kodak Black is known just as much for his love of sports as he is for his music. It’s not rare to catch a glimpse of the “Super Gremlin” rapper sitting court side at an NBA game or in the locker greeting his favorite NFL stars. You can even catch Kodak getting twerked on at a National Hockey game. Kodak’s love for sports, and athletes love for Kodak, has earned the star many new friendships in the game.

Back in January, he came to the defense of former NFL star Antonia Brown after he was cut from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for storming off the field shirtless and much more. The Florida native tweeted, “Don’t B Kwik To Shun @AB84Ain’t Nobody Finna Jus Do That Fa No Apparent Reason. Gotta B Some S*** We Don’t Know Bout & Clearly Fam Had Some Fines to pay & dem People Wasn’t Tryna Put em in da game so he can earn dem bonuses. Of course a n***a gone get frustrated.”

Kodak not only supports professional athletes. The “Roll In Peace” star is often seen playing football with a youth football team in his hometown of Pompano Beach, Florida. Last month, fans captured footage of the star giving the young team, Pompano Eagles, a pep talk on the field. “You gotta practice. You gotta work hard. You cant wake up and expect everything to be given to you,” he told the team.

On Wednesday (August 31), Kodak hit the field once again with the Pompano youth football team; and this time around, he gave them all a shout out and tag on his Instagram story. Check it out below.

Lupe Fiasco’s ‘The Cool’ Is Officially Certified Platinum After 15 Years

It’s difficult to discuss the rap landscape in the 2000s without mentioning Lupe Fiasco. His 2007 album Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool, in particular, boasted records like “Superstar” and “Fighters,” both featuring Matthew Santos, and “Paris, Tokyo.” After 15 years, the Chicago rapper can now lay claim to The Cool being RIAA-certified Platinum.

In a tweet on Wednesday, renowned music pundit Andrew Barber shared the major milestone, writing, “After 15 years, Lupe Fiasco’s classic second album ‘The Cool’ has officially been certified PLATINUM.” After a career full of ups and downs, including stepping away from Atlantic Records, the musician has another reason to celebrate his contributions to rap.

Despite label issues, the Tetsuo & Youth artist has not slowed down. At the end of June, Fiasco released Drill Music In Zion. The 10-track album was led by “Autoboto” featuring Nayirah, the sole guest appearance on the album. Drill Music In Zion was the “Kick, Push” artist’s first LP in almost four years, following the 2018 album Drogas Wave featuring Nikki Jean, Crystal Torres, and Simon Sayz, among others.

Aside from the music, Fiasco is set to teach a rap course at MIT. He also ran a podcast with Royce Da 5’9″ briefly before the two parted ways in a not-so-peaceful manner.
