Lizzo Recalls Meeting Prince, Says He Was Supposed To Produce Her EP

The industry is filled with stories of unlikely connections, and Lizzo recently offered hers during her visit to The Breakfast Club. The hitmaker has been on a promotional tour for her latest album Special, a record where she stands alone. However, Lizzo has been supported throughout her lengthy career, and while we’ve seen her catapulted into stardom within the last few years, she has been working on her craft for some time.

One person who was instrumental in motivating Lizzo to keep pursuing her passions was Prince, who the singer reportedly met at his Paisley Park estate. “God it makes me so sad thinking and talking about it,” Lizzo said of Prince’s passing in 2016.

According to Lizzo, Prince was slated to produce an EP for her. She revisited meeting the icon, saying that after she received the Paisley Park invite to watch a Prince concert, she got there as quickly as possible hoping that she would be able to see Prince perform his classic hit, “Purple Rain.”

“It was one of the most amazing concerts, and then he did ‘Purple Rain,’ and when he was performing ‘Purple Rain’ he started getting emotional and started crying towards the end,” Lizzo recalled. Elsewhere she added, “He said ‘Lizzo, you’re next.’ And [he] said it in magazines.”

“That was such a big deal to me. I do a lot of things to make Prince proud.” Lizzo also speculated as to what an EP produced by Prince starring Lizzo would sound like and stated she still has the emails of their exchanges about the project.

“I think he wanted me to get weird with it, but you know, we’ll never know. That makes me sad.”

Lil Durk Models Alongside Bella Hadid In New Marc Jacobs Campaign: Watch

It’s not uncommon to see rappers venture into the world of fashion, and as of late, 29-year-old Lil Durk has been doing plenty of just that.

Back in June, the Chicago native made his runway debut at Paris Fashion Week while walking for Amiri, and earlier this week, Marc Jacobs dropped off a new campaign video that finds Durkio posing among superstars like Bella Hadid, Paloma Elsesser, and Selena Forest.

The “Laugh Now Cry Later” artist rocked monogram denim jeans paired with a cream hoodie and a matching denim handbag for the shoot, even sharing some of the photos on his own Instagram feed, despite the fact that he had just announced his plans for a hiatus from the social media platform.

“I’m finna disappear for a minute,” Durk told his followers recently. “Deactivating my page at eight o clock, it’s over with. I’m finna lock-in, come back 1000 times stronger on some monster shit. Every time I pop back up, is that really him? Yeah.”

The break may not have been long, but he did fulfill his promise of coming back stronger with the new campaign photos.

When he walked in the Amiri show, the 7220 artist carried himself with confidence to Souls of Mischief’s “93 ’til Infinity” while he wore a printed sweatshirt, white shorts, and white high-top sneakers on his feet.

The father of six also made an appearance in Cardi B’s “Hot Shit” music video with Kanye West, though some thought that the 45-year-old may have been animated in – read more about that here, and tap back in with HNHH later for more hip-hop news updates.

Saucy Santana & Latto Bring Their Junk In The Trunk To The “Booty” Video: Watch

Saucy Santana’s fans were pleased by the arrival of his “Booty” collaboration with Latto last month, and today (July 19) he’s returned with a twerking-filled music video to accompany the summer anthem.

Directed by Jake Wilson, the visual takes us to a block party where a crowd of friends is getting their dance on and having the time of their lives.

Santana kicks things off, confidently rapping, “Who else got a ass like this? / Who else throw it back like this? / What else make ’em mad like this? / What else make ’em act like this?,” as he struts through the neighbourhood.

For her turn, Latto doesn’t hesitate to “shake what [her] doctor gave her,” sharing bars like “Uh, flat tummy yeah my shape tea / One of ninety-nine reasons bitches hate me,” and “It’s a lot of bitches wishin’ they could see me fail / I’ma make him pay the second round of this BBL.”

As Revolt notes, many have pointed out the similarities between “Booty” and Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s hit, “Crazy in Love.”

The familiar horns come from “Are You My Woman? (Tell Me So)” by the Chi-Lites, and producer Johnny Goldstein added bits from Poison Clan’s “Shake Whatcha’ Mama Gave Ya” and KSHMR’s “Hey Ho Crowd Chant” to create Santana’s latest release.

The Game Says He Once Lost A Rap Battle To Kanye West

The Game says that he once lost a rap battle to Kanye West after the two began freestyling outside of a party in California. The Compton rapper recalled the incident during a discussion with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson for the All The Smoke podcast, ahead of the release of his new album Drillmatic.

“So yeah, me and Ye we end up freestyling outside of [the party] … my shit was all gangsta, but Ye had the punchlines and he had the women; so he beat me that night,” Game said. “So ever since then me and Ye we’ve been locked in.”

He went on to say that the two bonded over the moment and West has had his back in the music industry ever since. The Game even remarked, earlier this year, that Ye has done more for his career than Dr. Dre.

“It’s crazy that Ye did more for me in the last two weeks than Dre did for me my whole career,” Game declared on the Drink Champs podcast, back in February.

Drillmatic: Heart vs. Mind, which has been delayed several times by this point, has finally been given a firm release date by The Game. Fans can expect to hear the highly-anticipated new album on August 12.

“My apologies for the delay but fans sometimes don’t understand how hard it is behind the scenes trying to clear samples on over 30 records & to get publishing splits, agreements, mixes approved, featured artists agreements & a million other things done in order to have a clean, flawless album put together & released,” he recently wrote on Instagram.

Lizzo Wants To “Get In The Middle Of” Kourtney K & Travis Barker After Sitting Next To Them At The Met Gala

Following the arrival of her Special album last Friday, 34-year-old Lizzo has been making her rounds in the press, not only promoting her new release but also catching her fans up on her life as of late.

On Monday (July 18), the “Juice” hitmaker appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, and while chatting pop culture with the host, he asked her to give her opinion on Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker’s relationship.

As you’ve likely already seen, Kravis is best known for their sometimes ridiculous public displays of affection (though their antics are usually more toned down than those of their good friends, Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly). While some are turned off by the love-sick behaviour, Lizzo is all for it.

“Let me get in the middle of that,” she said to Cohen. “I sat next to them at the Met Gala, and I fully enjoyed it. So, it’s about damn time they call me.”

When the host asked Lizzo for her thoughts on Kourt’s little sister, Kim Kardashian, allegedly damaging Marilyn Monroe’s iconic dress at the same Met Gala, she pulled out an antique KUWTK joke, “There’s people dying, Kim,” from the time the socialite lost a diamond earring in the ocean back in 2011.

Elsewhere on WWHL, the Cuz I Love You hitmaker revealed the nature of her relationship with Rihanna (they don’t talk about business, but rather, sex), and gave her thoughts on Denise Richards’ OnlyFans.
