Boslen Lets Go Of A Poisonous Paramour With His ‘UPROXX Sessions’ Performance Of ‘Gone’

Boslen returns to UPROXX Sessions with another performance after showcasing the “Levels” to his flows. This time, he displays his range with a lilting performance of his emo-rock-influenced trap-pop ballad, “Gone.” The inspiration the Vancouver artist gets from Kid Cudi and Travis Scott is even more evident here, as he full-on croons for much of the single, even throwing a little falsetto into the second verse.

“Gone,” like “Levels,” appears on the 24-year-old’s newly released EP Gonzo, which dropped last Friday, June 24 on UMG Recordings. In “Gone,” Boslen contemplates a toxic relationship and how hard it can be to leave, even when you know it’s not good for you. “I don’t wanna wait for you to say you’re sorry,” he tells his poisonous paramour. “I’m not gonna lay here just for anybody / I’m gone, long gone.”

Giveon Recalls Singing For SZA During A Job Interview At Bubba Gump Shrimp

Before Giveon was an R&B superstar, he was a server at a Bubba Gump Shrimp restaurant in Long Beach, California. When he landed the job, he didn’t know how far his passion for singing would take him. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, he recalled a moment from eight years ago, in which he sang for a then-up-and-coming SZA.

While on his way to the third interview for the server job, he saw SZA inside the restaurant.

“I don’t know why Bubba Gump requires three interviews for some reason,” Giveon said. “I’m walking into the third interview and I just see SZA walking and I ambush her like, ‘Hi.’ I just was rambling out the words. I don’t even remember everything I said, but then I said too much. But she was extremely nice.”

At the time of the encounter, SZA had just signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, and had just released her major-label debut EP, Z. While Giveon doesn’t remember exactly what went down during the encounter, he did recall singing a few bars for the “Good Days” singer.

“Yes, I sang for her, OK?! I was gon’ leave that part out,” Giveon continued, following prying from Fallon. “I was a very big fan. Still am. I was singing for her and she was just like, ‘Who is this guy singing?!’ […] She came to a show years later and I told her and she was like, ‘Awww, I don’t remember.’ So I went on Instagram and unsent the DM that I sent her. […] I went to the DM and it said 2014. ‘Hi, my name is Giveon, I was the kid at Long Beach Bubba Gump. Do you remember me?’ I just took it off. If she brings it up, I don’t know what she’s talking about.”

Vince Staples Lands Acting Roles In Reboots Of Both ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ And ‘The Wood’

Beyond music, Vince Staples has a nicely fleshed-out IMDb page and lately has been especially stacked with news on that front: In separate reports shared within 24 hours of each other, it was revealed that Staples has joined the cast of a couple notable projects.

Deadline reports today that Staples has been brought into the fold of the new White Men Can’t Jump movie, joining a cast that includes Jack Harlow, Sinqua Walls, Lance Reddick, Teyana Taylor, and others. It hasn’t yet been revealed what sort of role Staples will be playing in the film.

On top of that, Variety reported yesterday that the rapper has been tapped by Showtime to join the main cast of comedy pilot The Wood, based on the 1999 movie (starring Omar Epps, Richard T. Jones, and Taye Diggs) of the same name.

Variety notes Staples will “star as Jamal, an aspiring photographer from Ladera Heights, who has been cut off by his upper-class family when he decided to follow his own path instead of going to historic Morehouse College.” The publication also notes, “The show is described as an honest look at friendship and dating from the perspective of three young Black males born and raised in the gentrifying LA suburb of Inglewood. The trio’s struggles to balance fatherhood, ambition and loyalty force them to question if they are growing apart, or closer together.”

Staples will star alongside Xavier Mills, Karen Obilom, Melvin Gregg, and Essence Renae, as well as Richard T. Jones and Tamala Jones, reprising their respective roles of Slim and Tanya from the original movie.

This latest credits follows Staples’ lead role in the 2019-2021 Adult Swim cartoon Lazor Wulf, as well as appearances on Insecure, American Dad, and more.

Russ Takes The World By Storm In His Jet-Setting ‘Yes Sir’ Video

Not that long ago, calling Russ an “international star” would have been a stretch, but these days, the New Jersey rapper is getting as comfortable on private planes as he is in the studio. In his jet-setting new video for “Yes Sir,” Russ makes himself at home abroad as he raps in front of French landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe and strolls the streets of foreign cities while making time to take pics with fans of all nationalities before performing in sold-out arenas.

The video is the latest exhibit in Russ’ ongoing case for remaining independent as an artist, which he’s been arguing ever since completing his Columbia Records contract in 2020 (truthfully, even before that). Earlier this month, he even took his message to TMZ Live, calling record labels “obsolete.” Telling his fellow artists “you don’t need them; they’re not doing anything for you that you can’t do for yourself,” he explained why rappers have so much more control over their careers these days.

“Artists in today’s day and age, they’re their own digital marketing,” he said. “I think digital marketing is one of the biggest facades in the music industry. You get with the label and they’re like, ‘Here’s your digital team.’ And it’s like, ‘What do y’all do exactly?’”

Most recently, Russ has popped up on songs with Black Thought and Danger Mouse (“Because” with Joey Badass) and Logic (“Therapy Music“) and launched his own label, so it seems he’s doing something right.

Kevin Durant’s Preferred Trade Destination Revealed

Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets are headed towards divorce. This is truly shocking news that just came down the pipeline a few minutes ago. Of course, everyone thought that Durant would be staying with the Nets given the fact that Kyrie Irving had just opted into his deal for the 2022-2023 season.

Effectively, Durant is about to leave Kyrie and the Nets high and dry, which is something no one saw coming. It is yet another wild chapter in KD’s career, and it will be interesting to see what his reasoning is for this drastic move.

According to NBA Insider Chris Haynes, KD has a list of teams he would be interested in. One such team is none other than the Phoenix Suns, who finished in first place this year. The team boasts the talents of Devin Booker and Chris Paul who are the perfect people to pair KD with. They also have Deandre Ayton, although it is likely that Ayton will get dealt to the Nets if the Suns actually do acquire KD in a trade.

Adrian Wojnarowski is also reporting that the Miami Heat are on KD’s radar. At the end of the day, however, it is the Nets who will ultimately decide where KD goes next.

Kevin Durant Requests Trade Out Of Brooklyn

Last week, there were rumors that Kyrie Irving would leave the Brooklyn Nets for the Los Angeles Lakers. Eventually, cooler heads prevailed and Kyrie decided to opt into his $36 million deal for next season. This was supposed to appease Kevin Durant, who was going to request a trade if Kyrie decided to up and leave.

Of course, today is the start of free agency and the Nets were expected to make some big moves in order to fill out their roster. KD and Kyrie need help on the defensive side of the ball, and depth was certainly lacking last season.

Well, the Nets can forget about the Kyrie-KD tandem as Durant has officially requested a trade from the franchise. This bombshell news comes courtesy of Shams Charania of The Athletic, who was one of the first on the story. So far, there are no details surrounding why KD had such a drastic change of heart, although this is certainly shocking news to Nets fans and the NBA as a while.

It was pretty well guaranteed that KD would stick around if Kyrie decided to come back. Now, he will be leaving the point guard high and dry in one of the most bizarre changes of heart in the history of the league.

Deandre Ayton Elicits Interest From This Western Conference Team

The Minnesota Timberwolves are in the market this offseason for a defensive player to partner with the offense of franchise big man Karl Anthony Towns. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has identified who he thinks would be a perfect free agent signing to fill this void in the Timberwolves roster: Deandre Ayton.

Ayton, who seems all but confirmed to be leaving the Suns at the start of free agency, has been a defensive force in the first seasons of his career. Through his first four seasons in the league, Ayton averaged 16.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per outing, along with 1 block and 1 steal. While KAT usually plays the 5, his athleticism and offensive versatility could allow him to transition to the power forward position. Ayton could then take over the center position, and help anchor a daunting defensive lineup, with speedy guards DeAngelo Russell and Patrick Beverly up top and young star Anthony Edwards on the wing.

Ayton has reportedly had issues in Phoenix with veteran point guard Chris Paul and head coach Monty Williams. A change in scenery for the University of Arizona alum seems inevitable.

Ayton’s undecided landing spot has been a dominating story of the 2022 offseason. Other potential landing spots include the Detroit Pistons, the Indiana Pacers, and the Atlanta Hawks.

Wherever the 24-year-old center ends up, he’s expected to continue to grow into one of the best centers in the NBA.
