Khaby Lame Overtakes Charli D’Amelio As The Most Followed TikToker In The World

Well, it’s been a good reign. Charli D’Amelio has finally lost the top spot on TikTok, where she became a celebrity for her dance videos. The new most-followed TikToker in the world is Khaby Lame, a Senegalese 22-year-old who has risen to fame primarily through his dialogue-free TikToks mocking “life hack” videos.

Lame, whose username is @khaby.lame, joined TikTok in 2020 after he was laid off from his factory job. During the pandemic, his deadpan reactions to self-help videos quickly became viral. On June 23, Lame hit 142.5 million followers, beating Charli D’Amelio’s 142.2 million.

The TikTok fame has helped Lame ascend from his humble beginnings. Born in Senegal, Lame moved to Chivasso, Italy, at the age of one, and grew up in public housing units. Now, the comedian is landing sponsorship deals with brands like Hugo Boss, and has been seen hanging out with big names like Ed Sheeran. Lame credits his success to his upbringing. “Public housing is a place to which I owe everything,” said Lame in an interview with Olhar Digital. “They taught me education and allowed me to cultivate many bonds.”

Lame was working at a factory in Turin as a machine operator in 2020 when the pandemic suddenly hit Italy. The factory was shut down, and Lame found himself unemployed. To stave off boredom, he downloaded TikTok and started making videos. He gravitated to satirizing the “life-hack” videos that are so popular on the platform, acting out easier ways to do what the TikToks were trying to accomplish. It was this wordlessness that made his appeal so universal.

“I came up with the idea because I was seeing these videos circulating, and I liked the idea of bringing some simplicity to it,” Lame said to CNN. “I thought of a way to reach as many people as possible. And the best way was not to speak.”

Omarion’s B2K “Background Dancers” Comment Isn’t Sitting Well With Raz B & J-Boog

The Verzuz stage is definitely the perfect place for artists to channel their competitiveness and creative energy into one, and the most recent episode saw just that as Omarion and Mario went head-to-head, pulling out some of their biggest R&B hits to sing for fans.

The latter eventually won, and though they traded some shots back and forth on social media afterward, it was all in good fun. However, the “Post 2 Be” singer landed him some hot water with his former fellow B2K members J-Boog and Raz B after referring to them as his “backup dancers.”

Scott Gries/Getty Images

“To call me a background dancer is funny,” J-Boog began in his 10-page statement directed at Omarion. “Shall we discuss the truth behind how those records were really made? I was there. You were not in the booth for a lot of the vocals that were put on those songs,” he alleged.

“From your lead vocals not fully being you – listen to that first album, you’ll hear Steve Russell in and out of those leads and the hooks,” the recording artist shared.

“The first album, until I took over the second album. Me landing a lead on our second single f***ed with you because our first number-one single, ‘Bump, Bump, Bump,’ I sang the hook on it, and it brought attention to the label.”

Elsewhere online, Raz B also spoke on Omarion’s slander, though he let his contract receipts speak for themselves, pulling out screenshots that seemingly state that (as of 2019), the 37-year-old is no longer an official member of the famed group.

Check it out below, and read what Mario had to say to his competitor after annihilating him on Verzuz here.

Azealia Banks Continues Her Beyoncé Rant, “We Like White Yoncé”

Since Beyoncé dropped her single, “Break My Soul,” the internet hasn’t stopped talking about its house-style beat and dance club vibe. While many people have fallen in love with the record, one artist, in particular, isn’t really feeling it. Azealia Banks, known for creating music similar to that of Bey’s latest release, has had a lot to say about the four-minute record.

Banks started her rant by calling Bey’s mash-ups horrible. She went on to post an article in which Beyoncé admitted to listening to her music for “brainstorming” purposes. In regards to being Beyoncé’s inspiration, Banks wrote, “Well, if you would share some of that hot sauce you have in your bag with me… we’d give [you] the actual goods… We gotta fix this ASAP.”

The artist, hailing from New York, also questioned the mother of three’s intentions, claiming she only dropped her record because it is currently Pride month. “…You don’t give a d*mn about the gays any other time of the year.” She also accused her of watching everything she does.

After days of bickering about Queen B on Instagram, Banks still isn’t done. She took to her IG story to blast Bey once again, accusing her of stealing from black creatives and stating that she prefers the “white” version of her instead.

“Since Bey is out here pretending to support black divas with bouquets of wilted flowers after stealing their art, arrogantly assuming they don’t have money for legal counsel,” Banks wrote. This is in reference to Beyoncé sampling Robin S’s “Show Me Love” single, and incorporating it into “Break My Soul.” She then sent the artist flowers as a way to commemorate her.

In an effort to educate her 889,000 followers on what “real” house music is, Banks posted some of her favs on her story– which included artists like Chris Brown, Janet Jackson, Deborah Cox, and others.

The 31-year-old also included voice memos of her critiquing Beyoncés musical abilities. “We do not really like afro-centric Beyoncé. We don’t want braids… We don’t really want “Brown Skin Girl.” We Like White Yoncé.”

“I am creating my own management company,” she revealed. “I’m also doing my record company. I have a couple of artists that I will start the record company with. I’ll speak on that closer to album time.”

There’s no set in stone date yet for her new artist to debut. Kobang co-wrote 21 Savage and Metro Boomin’s “Mr Right Now” featuring Drake. The Baltimore native has been on the music scene since 2011 and broke out with his “Bank Rolls (Remix)” in 2015.

Top 5 Most Expensive Air Jordan 1 High OG Colorways

When you ask a sneakerhead what silhouette they believe is the most iconic in the history of sneakers, they will probably say the Air Jordan 1. This is a shoe that was debuted by the greatest basketball player of all time, Michael Jordan, back in 1985. It was his very first signature sneaker with Jordan Brand and what an introduction it was. It’s a shoe that caught on immediately, and over the last 37 years, it has only grown in popularity.

From original colorways to unique collaborations that have left fans in awe, there is no doubt that the Air Jordan 1 has given collectors plenty to talk about. Having said that, one should be aware of the fact that not every single Air Jordan 1 is obtainable to the average joe from a price standpoint. The sneaker market has exploded over the last decade or so and at this point, some shoes may require a loan. There are a few Air Jordan 1 models that fit into this unfortunate trend, and today, we have decided to break down five of the most expensive Jordans that you can purchase.

If you’re reading this, some of these are probably your grails, while others will leave you scratching your head wondering, “who would ever pay that much money for this.” Regardless, there is history here, so hang on to your hats as these prices might leave you bewildered and perhaps even a bit discouraged.

5. Air Jordan 1 High OG “Shinedown”

Average Price on StockX: $13,751

The first sneaker on our list comes from the rock band Shinedown. While some of our readers may have never heard of the band, it just so happens that their guitarist Zach Myers is a huge sneakerhead. Back in 2018, his love of sneakers eventually culminated into a band-exclusive sneaker that still gets sneakerheads giddy. This is because the shoe features a unique yellow, black, and white colorway that hasn’t been done on a general release. The shoe’s yellow toe is distinct and the black exclamation point on the back also makes this unique to the band. Even now, this shoe is highly regarded as one of the best Jordan 1 PEs out there, and if you want a pair, you can expect to shell out just $14,000 USD.

4. Air Jordan 1 High OG “Colette” (Friends & Family)

Image via StockX

Average Price: $14,310

In 2017, French boutique Colette decided to close its doors after 20 years. This was disappointing news for many consumers, however, it did lead to a pretty amazing shoe. Nike decided to hit Colette with a special gift in the form of this Air Jordan 1. The shoe contained a white base with gorgeous blue overlays. From there, the years 1997 and 2017 were written on each side to showcase the first and last years of business. Two dots are placed on the back heel and to bring it all together, we even have “Au Revoir” written on the outsole. These pairs were extremely limited, and now, you need $14,300 to be able to afford yourself a pair. Needless to say, the legacy of Colette has factored into the price quite heavily.

3. Air Jordan 1 High OG Dave White “Wings For The Future” (Gold)

Image via StockX

Average Price: $18,888

UK artist Dave White released this shoe all the way back in 2011 and at the time, only 23 were produced as they were sold at auctions. The shoe is one of the most unique Air Jordans to ever be produced as it doesn’t fit the traditional color blocking. As you can see, there is a huge flash of gold at the front while the back part has red, white, and blue. These elements come together to create a very interesting-looking sneaker that creates quite a bit of intrigue. These days, the shoe is just under $19K which is a pretty penny if you ask us. Either way, it’s a one-of-a-kind piece that any collector would love to have.

2. Air Jordan 1 OG “Bred” (1985)

Image via StockX

Average Price: $23,466

When this shoe was released, Nike was marketing it as a shoe that was “banned” by the NBA. Of course, that was not true. It was the Nike Air Ship that had actually been banned by the league, but for Nike that wasn’t an issue. They had sneakers to sell and they did so in the most shameless way possible. Regardless, the “Bred” colorway has become a staple of the Jumpman line, and that is never going to change. The red and black aesthetic goes perfectly with the Chicago Bulls uniforms, and it is a blueprint that has led to other fire colorways like the “Royal.” With that being said, the OG “Bred” from 1985 has skyrocketed in price over the years as collectors try to get a taste. Now, this shoe runs for a whopping price of $23,450 which is enough to make you reconsider your hobby.

1. Air Jordan 1 OG “Chicago” (1985)

Image via Goat

Average Price: $25,000

The Air Jordan 1 OG “Chicago” is the shoe that started it all. While the “Bred” colorway might be more popular from a taboo standpoint, you can’t help but love the history behind the “Chicago” offering. This is the first Jordan 1 colorway that MJ ever wore, and it is also the most popular. It was named after the city of Chicago due to the fact that the color scheme was unique to the Bulls. From the white side panels and toe box to the red overlays, this is a shoe that screams “Michael Jordan.” It is a shoe that has been a part of numerous marketing campaigns and these days, it is a sneaker that fans are always clamoring for retros of. The original 1985 version is one of those grail-type pieces that sneakerheads salivate over, and it should come as no surprise that the average pair goes for a price of $25K. As time goes on, these will only get more expensive.

Let us know which of these Air Jordan 1s is your favorite, in the comments down below.

Kevin Gates Shares Video Hugging Dreka Gates At Autograph Signing After Breakup Rumours

The hip-hop community was recently saddened by rumours of a Kevin and Dreka Gates breakup, which the Louisana rapper seemingly confirmed in his “Super General” freestyle.

The “2 Phones” hitmaker has been spotted spending time with Love & Hip-Hop‘s Jojo Zarur (and even recently admitted that he would “drink Beyoncé’s piss”), but at a recent autograph signing following last Friday’s Khaza arrival, he and his longtime partner looked as loved up as ever along with their two children.

Randy Shropshire/Getty Images

“Beautiful experiences along this amazing journey,” Kevin captioned the video he shared, put together by @takeashotphotography__. “New Orleans, thank you for making this possible.”

Footage shows fans eagerly waiting outside to catch a glimpse of the 36-year-old before nabbing a coveted signature from him. We then cut to the couple pulling each other close to share a romantic moment, Dreka’s face buried in her man’s neck before he gets to work meeting and greeting his listeners.

Word of the Gates’ rumoured separation was particularly troubling due to the dedication that Dreka provided her husband with during his come-up. “I’ve done it all. At the very beginning, I was the DJ at the shows, I was the booking agent, I was f*cking everything,” she told us during a 2018 interview.

“We’ll be in the studio, and I’ll say something he’ll take that and make it into a song. Or he’ll just ask me about something, and I’ll be like ‘You should say this instead of that or tweet this.’ I play a huge role in his career.”

Funnily enough, while Kevin was out and about publicly dissing his wife for her alleged infidelity, she remained completely unbothered, showing off her garden on social media instead of engaging (which Twitter loved) – read more about that here, and tap back in with HNHH later for more hip-hop news updates.

Lupe Fiasco Has An Epic Return On “GHOTI”

Lupe Fiasco’s new album, Drill Music In Zion, is finally here. After teasing singles like “AUTOBOTO” with Nayirah and “DRILL MUSIC IN ZION,” the Chicago icon released the full 10-song project on Friday.

The album begins with an evocative spoken word piece by Ayesha Jaco on the track “THE LION’S DEEN,” and so Lupe’s first bars are found on the low-key, jazz-infused “GHOTI.” The rapper doesn’t disappoint, weaving through topics like Michael Jackson, Neuralink, Adam and Eve, and Wonder Woman all in the span of under two minutes. His lyrics fit the moody and introspective horn-based instrumental, revolving around the dangers that lie in success. “Egyptian museum, they keep the kings in crates,” Lupe raps. “Thrones out on loan and they keep their rings in safes.”

Though it’s understated, “GHOTI” is a track on which Lupe is showboating, illustrating how effortlessly he can bounce between disparate ideas to create a compelling narrative. It should be no surprise that he’s landed a job teaching rap at MIT.

Check out the song below, and let us know what you think of it in the comment section. Has Drill Music In Zion been worth the wait?

Chris Brown Says He’s Willing To Do A “Verzuz” Battle With Usher, Talks Going Against Drake

Created during the height of the Coronavirus pandemic, Verzuz TV is a platform that allows musicians to go head-to-head with their most popular records of all time. Regularly averaging one million viewers during each battle, the show has quickly become one of the most-watched and talked about forms of entertainment on the internet.

The most recent competition was between two of R&Bs hottest singers, Mario and Omarion. With all the antics pulled during the set, the event hasn’t stopped being talked about and it is creating some new conversations.

Scott Dudelson/Getty Images

During the latest episode of Drink Champs, Chris Brown was the guest and he got asked about how he’d feel about stepping into the Verzuz ring. “They want me to do it with Usher,” the Virginia native told the hosts, “It only makes sense, but it’s got to make more sense.” The musician went on to say that he would want both him and Usher to be celebrated equally in the event of a battle.

“I can’t act like he ain’t a pioneer as well– that’s Usher,” he stated. He continued by adding that it would be something the fans would enjoy, but he has too many songs to choose from.

Aside from going head-to-head with the “Nice & Slow” artist, a one-on-one with Canadian rapper, Drake, was also a topic. “That would be a formidable champ,” Breezy admitted, “but you gotta think, when we go back to genres, you know what the consensus was? ’Nah, they don’t do the same music.'”

Who do you think would win those Verzuz battles between Chris vs. Usher and Chris vs. Drake. Let us know in the comments.

Giveon Pours His Heart Out On “Make You Mine”

It was a huge weekend for R&B lovers – not only because of the arrival of Chris Brown’s Breezy album, but also due to the legendary Verzuz that went down between Omarion and Mario (not to mention the pre-show, which saw Ray J get flamed for his vocals on “One Wish”).

On top of all that, we also got a debut album from 27-year-old Giveon, who dropped off the featureless Give or Take at midnight on Friday, including previously released singles like “Lie Again” and “For Tonight” on the tracklist.

On the project’s seventh title, “Make You Mine,” the Los Angeles-born vocalist pours his heart out to a potential lover, pondering what lengths he has to go to in order to secure her in his life.

“What would it take here / To make you mine, for real? / I got a taste and now, can’t keep off my mind,” he muses on the chorus.

Stream “Make You Mine” on Spotify, Apple Music, or Soundcloud below, and tap back in with HNHH later to stream more new songs on our weekly R&B Season update.

Quotable Lyrics:

Got high hopes
Just like you
Truth be told
We both got things to lose (Things to lose)

Eminem Meets Bobby Shmurda In New Viral Video

Eminem’s new album Curtain Call 2 is on the way, and he’s got some big names involved, including singles with Snoop Dogg and CeeLo Green. Now, fans are hoping he might have just met a new collaborator for the project.

On Friday, Eminem met Bobby Shmurda backstage at a concert. The whole interaction was caught on video, and is now going viral as fans react to the semi-awkward introduction.

Eminem was performing at the 2022 Apefest event in New York City. In the video, Eminem is wrapping up a song with Snoop Dogg, “From The D 2 The LBC,” a new single from the two rap icons. Eminem then walks off stage and bumps into Cordae. He immediately recognizes the rapper and gives him a hug. Behind Cordae is Bobby Shmurda, who grins at Eminem as he interacts with Cordae. Once Shmurda has Eminem’s attention, it clearly takes a second for Eminem to realize who he is. Shmurda ends the awkward silence by greeting the Detroit rapper with a “Big homie!” Eminem then daps him up and gives him a hug.

Fans have been equal parts amused and excited by the video. “Bobby Shmurda hugging Eminem is something I never thought we’d see,” tweeted @dannyxterry. One user, @christianomorow, found the exchange hilarious, writing, “Bobby Shmurda, said to Eminem big hommie… u need to respect the goat,” including a crying laughing emoji.

Check out some more of the reactions to the video below. Perhaps this slightly uncomfortable introduction will produce some big things in the future.
