Weird Al Yankovic Had A Funny Critique Of Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Something For Thee Hotties’

Over the weekend, Megan Thee Stallion released her new mixtape, Something For Thee Hotties, rejuvenating her musical image somewhat among longtime fans who were disappointed by the stylistic departures on her debut album Good News. Rapping over bass-heavy, club-friendly beats produced by the likes of Buddah Bless, Juicy J, Murda Beatz, and OG Parker, Megan got back to basics, reviving her Tina Snow persona with a selection of freestyles and unreleased tracks hearkening back to her early days on the come-up.

One unexpected fan, though, turned out to be Weird Al Yankovic, who jumped into the Twitter discussion about the tape this morning with a funny, tongue-in-cheek critique about one of the project’s 20 songs, “Eat It.” You may remember that Weird Al has a song with the same title, a parody of Michael Jackson’s 1982 hard rock hit “Beat It” from Al’s 1984 album “Weird Al” Yankovic In 3-D. Apparently, upon listening to Megan’s song, Al was surprised to learn that it was not, in fact a homage to his own parody work, responding with a winking assessment that it was “Not a very faithful cover version, if you ask me.”

Megan Thee Stallion is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Nipsey Hussle’s “TMC” Set The Blueprint For His Legacy: Revisit “Rose Clique”

At the age of 33, Nipsey Hussle had only put on one official studio album. And while it was Grammy-nominated, his fans will forever cherish the legacy he built through his mixtape run. The Marathon Continues became a slogan to carry on his legacy but it truly began with the release of his 2011 mixtape of the same name. TMC remains a pivotal project in Nipsey’s career but also one that became synonymous with the blog era. Laced with 14 songs in total, Nip’s desires and ambition shined as he basked in the success he’s accomplished independently.

No song sums it up better than “Rose Clique.” Glossy synths and wavy guitar chords lead the way as Nip paints a picture of a young boss manifesting a life far from where he came up. “LAX to JFK then on our way to Heathrow/ At the polo lounge in here sippin’ cappuccino,” he raps. “Spendin’ pounds, every purchase, man, this feeling has no equal/ if you come from where I come from, it’s rare that you see folk.”

“Rose Clique” became a highlight off of the project, though it was released months before when Nip had celebrated 107K followers on Twitter. Released as a free mixtape and available on iTunes, Nipsey’s TMC laid down the foundation of the independent grind he would pursue with projects like Crenshaw that were sold as hard copies for $100.

Check out the song below.

Quotable Lyrics
Faith in my transition, I knew I’ll be back in beast mode
Catch a case, that’s the tradition, either that or six believe no
Still somehow I understood that I could make the seed grow
And that one day that tree will bear fruit to feed my people
That one day is upon us, grab your fork it’s time to eat, bro

Jameis Winston Out For The Year With ACL & MCL Injury

Jameis Winston has been having a solid start to the season with New Orleans Saints. With Drew Brees retired, Winston has stepped in as the starting quarterback and while he has been inconsistent at times, there is no doubt that he has made some great plays all while leading the team to some impressive wins.

Unfortunately, Winston suffered an injury to his knee yesterday as the Saints defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what was a pretty amazing upset. In the second quarter, Winston went down awkwardly while being tackled, and he needed quite a bit of help to get off the field. Fans were understandably concerned about his condition, and now, it seems like those concerns were very much valid.

In a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, it was revealed that Winston has a torn ACL, and he even has some damage to his MCL. This means Winston is now out for the rest of the season, which means the Saints will have to use a mix of Trevor Siemian and Taysom Hill. With the Saints looking to battle it out for first place in the NFC South, this is the worst thing that could have happened.

This remains a developing story so stay tuned to HNHH as we will continue to provide updates on this situation.

Derrick Henry To Undergo Foot Surgery, Recovery Timetable Revealed

Derrick Henry was having himself an incredible season with the Tennessee Titans and if he continued on this pace, he would have been very close to achieving a 2000-yard season. Having said that, the injury bug struck Henry yesterday as the team was playing against the Indianapolis Colts. Henry and the Titans were able to come away with the win, however, Henry was nursing his foot afterward and it had many concerned about his condition.

This morning, it was reported that the injury could spell the end of his season although he would need to be evaluated by team doctors. Now, a verdict is in and it does not look good for the cornerstone of the Titans offense.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel confirmed today that Henry will now need to get surgery on his foot. In a separate report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, it was revealed that Henry will be out for six to 10 weeks, however, the Titans are hopeful for an eight-week timetable.

This is an unfortunate situation for the Titans who have remained one of the top teams in the AFC, and are currently first in their own division. This remains a developing story, so stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates.

Cardi B And Daughter Kulture Twin In Adorable Witch Costumes For Halloween

One of Halloween’s unanimously loved features is when parents match costumes with their children. Cardi B and her child Kulture Kiari Cephus did just that last night to the pleasure of all of Cardi’s followers.

The mother-daughter duo dressed up as witches with elegant black dresses, brooms, witch hats and gorgeous makeup.

The three-year-old Kulture stole the show, with the last slide of Cardi’s Instagram post showing a video of her posing with her broom as the captivated crowd at home took several photos.

Kulture’s dad Offset also had himself a fun Halloween, as he managed to put together the perfect hair and clothes for a Rick James costume. In a goofy video posted to Instagram, he is shown dancing and singing along to James’ hit “Super Freak.”

Along with the witch get-up, Cardi managed to pull off another stunning look for Halloween dressing as the notorious Addams’ family mother, Morticia.

Crediting the designers of her and Kulture’s dresses, Cardi and family certainly went all out for spooky season. This comes less than two months after Cardi and Offset’s second child was born on Sept. 4. The couple has yet to announce the name of their son.

Halloween is always more fun when everybody participates and puts tremendous effort into their costumes. Cardi B and her little girl Kulture certainly proved that this year.

Do you think Kulture and her parents won Halloween this year? Check out more Halloween costumes from over the weekend here.

Macklemore Is Back Working With Ryan Lewis, Says His New Album Will Drop Next Spring

Ever since Macklemore’s The Heist won the Grammy for Best Rap Album over Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid m.A.A.d city back in 2014, the buzz surrounding the once-beloved Seattle rapper has faded.

Whether that’s because Good Kid m.A.A.d city is one of the best rap albums of the last 20 years and almost certainly better than The Heist, or because of Macklemore’s corny response to beating Kendrick, the facts are that he has never again reached the peaks he reached between 2012 and 2014. That is probably by design — the “Can’t Hold Us” rapper has been very public about the fact that he is a family man and wants to keep his family life private — but it’s been quite some time since the Macklemore name carried a ton of weight.

In following up 2017’s Gemini, however, the Seattle rapper is dipping back into The Heist bag and working with longtime collaborate and producer Ryan Lewis for the first time in half-a-decade.

Sitting down with Zane Lowe, Macklemore talked about his upcoming album and what it’s been like to be back in the lab with Lewis.

“I’m well into an album that, and I haven’t said this out loud yet, but hopefully we’ll have it in the springtime,” Macklemore told Lowe. “And, you know Ryan, that’s my brother. And he’s just so talented. So I heard this in the very infancy demo stage and I was like, ‘That’s a record. You should send me that.’ And when we got in the studio, a little bit nervous, it’s been a long time. A lot of things there in between. And we just connected, man. It was just that back right there, like we always have been. I don’t think that I’ve spent more time with anyone else than I have with Ryan. maybe rivaling my best friend from five years old and my wife. Ryan and I were together every day for a decade all day long, working, creating, touring, everything in between. So, yeah, that’s going to translate.”

The record Macklemore mentions is “Next Year,” a single he and Lewis released last Friday that features a sound reminiscent of moments on The Heist and promises that next year will be better than the one we are in now.

It’s unlikely that Macklemore ever ascends to the heights he did in the early-2010s, but throughout the back half of last decade, it was clear there was something missing in his music. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis had their moment and their sound and, despite taking a hiatus from working with each other, it will be interesting to see if they can capture any of the magic that fueled their rise to fame back in the day.

Rolling Loud NY Recap: 10 Best Sets

Another legendary weekend is in the books as rap fans from around the world flocked to New York to witness the second-ever Rolling Loud Festival at Citi Field. Taking place in the parking lot of the Queens-located stadium, the world’s most famous rappers put on a show for thousands upon thousands of fans, and the three-day festival featured plenty of moments that had us feeling grateful to be outside yet again, enjoying some stellar performances alongside passionate music lovers and ragers.

Whether you chose to spend the majority of your time at the Deleón Stage, the Audiomack Stage, or the Punx Stage, you were getting your money’s worth this weekend. On Thursday, the crowd lost their minds at Lil Uzi Vert’s set before witnessing a myriad of surprises during 50 Cent’s headlining appearance. The next day, thousands witnessed a viral moment firsthand as Uzi returned to the festival to reunite with his former friend Playboi Carti, marking the most wholesome moment of the weekend. Across the field, J. Cole performed during a torrential downpour, which only made his set more fun. On the final day of Rolling Loud, attendees caught one of the world’s best performers, Travis Scott, who debuted a new song from his upcoming album, as well as Roddy Ricch, Coi Leray, and other superstars who brought their A-game to the main stage.

With the weekend officially coming to a close, we’ve tallied up some of the best sets from the second annual Rolling Loud Festival in New York. Check out who we enjoyed the most below (in order of when the performances took place), and if you were also there or caught any performances during the live stream, let us know who we’re missing.

Rico Nasty

Rap’s resident sugar trap princess came through with a can’t-miss performance on Thursday afternoon, bringing her unique blend of hyper-pop, punk-rap, and rage to the Audiomack Stage. Starting the festival off with a bang, Rico’s set was complete with pyrotechnics, money guns, and hard-hitting renditions of her songs including “Tia Tamera,” “Smack a Bitch,” and “OHFR?”

With her green hair flowing in the wind, Rico screamed through much of her performance, electrifying the crowd and providing the perfect starting point for excited fans to let out two years of pent-up frustration after missing out on music festivals. With one of the most energetic performances of the entire weekend, Rico’s stock went up at Rolling Loud and we can’t wait to see her again next time.

Jack Harlow

One of rap’s biggest superstars of the moment, Louisville-based artist Jack Harlow had the Thursday afternoon crowd turned up for what ended up being a special set. He performed some popular cuts off of his album That’s What They All Say, but the highlight of his performance came when the unsuspecting crowd was met with the presence of none other than Jack’s “INDUSTRY BABY” collaborator, Lil Nas X.

The two blessed the audience with a live rendition of their #1 hit before Jack continued solo, leaving fans surprised and fulfilled.

Lil Uzi Vert

Always guaranteed to put on a show-stopping performance, Philadelphia rapper Lil Uzi Vert did so yet again during his Thursday evening set at Rolling Loud. Before he stepped on stage, fans pointed out dozens of trucks waiting outside the festival venue with promotional billboards announcing the release of the rapper’s new single, “Demon High,” which he performed alongside two other new tracks. He started by premiering new music from his highly-anticipated upcoming project The Pink Tape, before running into fan-favorites including “XO Tour Life” and “Do What I Want.”

As fans have grown to expect from the A-level performer, Lil Uzi did not jump off of any rooftops during this performance. He stayed put on stage, bringing unreal energy and swagger while wearing a pair of big, blue, fluffy earmuffs and running through his impressive catalog of festival bangers.

50 Cent

Day one’s headlining situation was a little bit of a mess. Fans expected to have options once the end of the night rolled around but with Lil Durk no-showing his set without explanation, crowds rushed over to the Deleón Stage for a nostalgic drive through 50 Cent’s biggest hits over the years.

The New York legend performed some of his most beloved tracks, including “P.I.M.P.” and “Many Men,” before inviting some more of the city’s favorite characters on stage. A Boogie wit da Hoodie was the first surprise guest, lighting up the crowd with a dedicated 5-minute run through his radio hits. Then, A$AP Rocky came out on stage to join 50 before one of the festival’s most questionable moments. DaBaby was the next surprise guest, returning to the Rolling Loud stage following his homophobic comments at the Miami leg of the festival several months ago, to perform three songs. He introduced himself as “the n***a you thought you weren’t going to see on stage anymore” before 50 took over again and closed out the night with a medley of his classics.

Lil Yachty

Lil Yachty has elevated his brand and become an absolute rock star since his first performance at Rolling Loud a few years ago. The Atlanta-based rapper previously performed for early afternoon audiences in Miami five years ago, but on Friday, he came out to a rumbling reception from thousands of rowdy fans who caused earthquake-like trembles in the ground by dancing to his wicked catalog of hits.

By now, Lil Boat has become a household name and when songs like “One Night” and “Minnesota” come on, festival crowds go absolutely nuts. It was an extraordinary moment to remark how far Yachty has come in the last few years, and his performance this weekend helped put that into perspective.

J. Cole

Image via HNHH/@iamzjb

Friday night’s headliners truly showed how diverse hip-hop is at the moment. On one stage, Playboi Carti shook the ground (quite literally) with mosh-pit anthems from his new album Whole Lotta Red. Several hundred feet away, J. Cole brought his thoughtful lyricism and storytelling to the main stage, exhilarating a crowd of fans who rapped along to every song while dodging heavy rainfall. The downpour started just before J. Cole’s set began, and it made for a visually stunning backdrop to his performance. It’s not every day that you get to see a performer like J. Cole live, and it’s even more of a treat to see him with Mother Nature raging up above with lightning, thunder, and hurricane-level winds twisting things up for Day 2 of Rolling Loud.

Mixing fan-favorite songs with his latest releases from The Off-Season, J. Cole treated his supporters to surprise appearances from Dreamville’s finest rappers, including J.I.D, Bas, and Lute. This performance proved that the North Carolina native is one of hip-hop’s greats, and it was a treat for those who stuck around despite the wet weather.

Playboi Carti

Whether you started at J. Cole’s set and ended up at Playboi Carti’s, or lined up at the Audiomack Stage for hours in anticipation for the one-and-only King Vamp, there was no way you could avoid the rumbling noise made by Carti and his legion of fans on Friday night. Even if you weren’t in the middle of the multiple moshpits surrounding the rapper as he performed, you could certainly feel the energy of his fans who were jumping repeatedly throughout the Citi Field grounds.

While it looked as though the 25-year-old was nearing the same result as Lil Durk the night earlier (who was a no-show for his performance), he eventually showed up and rocked the house down, coming through for what was likely the craziest set of the entire weekend. Performing hits like “Stop Breathing” and “Rockstar Made,” one of the highlights from his set was actually a wholesome moment when Carti’s on-again, off-again friend Lil Uzi Vert, who performed the night before and has been intermittently feuding with the rapper for years, appeared on stage and the two performed “Shoota” together. The 16*29 reunion ended as the rappers gave each other a big hug before continuing through the rest of Carti’s set, reminding some fans of another all-time great Rolling Loud moment when XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God embraced during the latter’s performance in Miami a few years ago.

Coi Leray

Rolling Loud/Christopher Pierantoni

It’s unfortunately become a trend to hate on New Jersey-based rapper Coi Leray, but if there’s anything her Rolling Loud set proved this weekend, it’s that she’s unquestionably got the full package. Her fully-choreographed performance of viral hits “TWINNEM,” “No More Parties,” “Slide,” and “Big Purr” made for one of the fun-filled sets of Day 3. Coi came out with a handful of dancers on scooters, running through well-rehearsed moves to her biggest songs.

During her performance, she addressed all the hate she’s been receiving online, telling the crowd that confidence is one of the most important things you can have as a person, and she’s filled with it. She reminded her naysayers that she made it to the main stage of Rolling Loud off of their backs, and she will only continue rising even higher as the years go by.

Roddy Ricch

Image via HNHH/@iamzjb

Image via HNHH/@iamzjb

Roddy Ricch’s performance was filled with technical difficulties, which posed a nuisance to the rapper, who frustratedly said that this would probably be the last time he ever performs at Rolling Loud– nonetheless, he still had one of the best sets of the weekend. When he first hopped on stage, the Compton-based artist complained about the video screens malfunctioning, asking techs to fix them for fans to enjoy his show to the fullest. He continued onto his biggest songs, performing “Boom Boom Room,” “High Fashion,” “Ballin’,” and it seemed Roddy was leaving the best for last in his hour-long set.

Announcing that only five minutes remained to his performance, Roddy finished his second-to-last song before his microphone was unexpectedly cut off. Fans started walking away from the Deleón Stage and assumed that they wouldn’t be hearing “The Box” live before the rapper returned a few moments later, getting through the song before declaring that he was likely never performing at RL again.

We’ll need to wait and see if Roddy’s feelings change about performing at the upcoming festival in California, as well as next year’s bash in Miami, but for now, he seems to be pretty pissed at the organizers for cutting his mic off. Still, if you missed his set on Saturday, it was something special.

Even though Roddy seemed disgruntled at times during his performance, he still put on a great show, and he was one of the only acts to perform without backing tracks for the most part. He brought out a live band with a guitarist, drummer, keyboard player, and other instrumentalists to make this one of the most special moments of the weekend.

Travis Scott

Rolling Loud

Rolling Loud/@srodriguez92

It probably goes without saying since, at this point, Travis Scott is universally known as one of the most thrilling performers in music, but he closed out the second iteration of Rolling Loud NYC with a loud bang. He arrived on an elevated platform performing “Escape Plan” from his upcoming album Utopia, setting the stage for some of his biggest hits, including “Highest In The Room,” “way back,” and more. Known for his rage-filled, moshpit-inducing performances, La Flame did not disappoint on the final day of the festival, sending fans home on a high after yet another star-studded Rolling Loud event.

With Utopia on the horizon, a lights-out performance was just what Travis needed to bring hype to an all-time high for his upcoming release.

Let us know if we missed any of your favorite sets from Rolling Loud NYC in the comments.

YNW Melly’s Lawyer Cites Kevin Gates In Defense Of “Confession” Video

On the latest episode of Complex and Spotify’s Infamous: The Story of YNW Melly, a lawyer for the incarcerated rapper responded to an apparent video presented to the court that prosecutors have described as a confessional. The alleged evidence was presented in 2019 in the lead prosecutor’s argument against releasing YNW Bortlen on bond.

The video was apparently taken on Melly’s phone and the prosecutors said that it included language that appeared to be an admission of guilt. “There’s no regrets for the shit that I did for that n***a to die. Both of them never say when,” Melly’s allegedly said in the video. The lead prosecutor attempted to deconstruct the lyrics, specifically the parts where he says he has “no regrets for the shit that” he did, and depict it as a confession.

Jerritt Clark/Getty Images

“And so he says, ‘And there’s no regrets for the shit that I did,’ including the derogatory [word] that I refuse to use for African-Americans,” lead prosecutor Kristine Bradley in 2019. “And he then takes the pen and puts it to his head in the shape of a gun, like pulling the trigger, throws up a Blood gang sign, and then he says both of them never say when. So the interesting part of this video is it was one month to the day after the shootings occurred on October 26th.”

On Infamous, Raven Liberty, an attorney for Melly, slammed the prosecutor’s attempt to weaponize the video against the defendant. Acknowledging that prosecutors believe this to be a “key piece of evidence in their case,” Liberty said that, the prosecutors and police are basing their argument on an “embarrassing, avoidable mistake” since Melly was actually quoting Kevin Gates “4:30 a.m..

In the song that appears on Gates’ 2013 Stranger Than Fiction mixtape, the Louisiana MC raps, “No regrets for the shit that I did; that also mean for the n***as I killed.” On the hook, Gates raps, “4:30 a.m., never say when.”

Liberty added that violent imagery has always been included in art, no matter the medium or the genre. Read the entire quote below via Complex.

Both in and out of court, Broward County prosecutors have frequently referred to a video taken on an iPhone as a ‘confession’ by Jamell Demons, the artist known as YNW Melly. It’s clear prosecutors believe this is a key piece of evidence in their case.

In reality, this so-called ‘confession’ video features Melly doing what many music fans do: repeating the lyrics of a favorite song by one of his favorite artists, the song ‘4:30 AM’ by Kevin Gates. Thousands of similar videos are uploaded daily to platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram.

Whether due to cultural ignorance, a lack of investigative rigor, or purposeful deception, it appears police and prosecutors have centered their prosecution of extremely serious charges on an embarrassing, avoidable mistake.

Violent imagery in music is not new. For the prosecution to use this video in a criminal proceeding is as credible as using a video of someone singing Johnny Cash’s ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ (‘I shot a man in Reno/just to watch him die’) or Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (‘Mama, I killed a man/put a gun against his head/pulled my trigger, now he’s dead’) in a prosecution. The reliance on this legal gimmick—in effect, putting a specific type of music on trial—highlights the weakness of their case and the general lack of evidence. Moreover, the racial aspects of this type of misleading, selective prosecution are painfully obvious.

In closing, it is worth highlighting that despite playing this so-called ‘confession’ video in court and citing it in public court documents, the prosecution has repeatedly failed to share a copy of the video in the discovery process as required under law.

Von Miller Traded To The Rams: Details

Von Miller has always been one of the best players on the Denver Broncos over the last decade. He has made it to eight Pro Bowls and he even won the Super Bowl in 2016 with Peyton Manning as his quarterback. In recent years, the Broncos have gone through quite a few struggles all while Miller has had various injury problems.

Over the past couple of months, there has been this sense that Miller’s relationship with the Broncos would be coming to an end soon, especially with him getting up there in age. Well, today, the end finally came as Miller was traded to the already-stacked Los Angeles Rams.

Von Miller

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Broncos are going to eat the vast majority of Miller’s salary, all while the Rams are going to send Denver a second-round and a third-round pick in 2022. Now, Miller will get to play with guys like Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey, all while being backed up by one of the best offenses in the league. Needless to say, it’s a great trade-off for Von who is still hungry for a second Super Bowl.

Let us know what you think of this trade, in the comments below, and stay tuned to HNHH for more NFL updates throughout the trade deadline.
