Queen Naija Is Considering A Name Change

Queen Naija is thinking about changing her legal name.

The singer, whose real first and middle name is Queen Naija, took to social media to reveal that she was considering changing the spelling of her middle name because she allegedly gets accused of calling herself the Queen of Nigeria

“I think I wanna legally change the spelling of my middle name “Naija” to “Najah” cause so many people think I’m calling myself the Queen of Nigeria.”

In response, many fans were quick to point out that they’ve never heard the argument made over the confusion of her name, pointing out the fact that her middle name actually has multiple meanings across various languages. Still, for all the trouble it might have caused, the name has served the songstress well so far.

This year, she followed up on her misunderstood album to share misunderstood…still. It expanded on the original album, which arrived nearly a year ago, adding names like Ari Lennox t the mix via the “Set Him Up” collaboration that the two women share.

The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” Becomes Fastest Song To Hit 2.5 Billion Spotify Streams

The wins keep on coming for The Weeknd. After being featured on Kanye West’s record-breaking album, DONDA last month, the Canadian artist continues to break barriers with his own tracks.

Early on Monday morning, Chart Data revealed via Twitter that “Blinding Lights,” the second single from After Hours, has become the fastest single in history to surpass 2.5 billion streams on Spotify.

This isn’t the only record that The Weeknd has broken as of late – We Rave You reports that the 31-year-old has also taken the title for most weeks spent on the Billboard Hot 100 with the same track. The previous record holder was Imagine Dragon’s “Radioactive.”

“Forever grateful to be able to experiment with sounds, try new things with my voice, and create music with the people I truly love and respect,” the Toronto native captioned his Instagram post from August 16th.

“For the last decade, every song has been a journey, and to be able to continue this journey has been nothing short of a blessing. It’s the only gift I could ever ask for. I’ll be doing it for as long as I can breathe. I love my fans and wouldn’t be here without you.”

He continued, “Big day for blinding lights. Multiple songs in the top 20. Thursday turns 10. Caesar turned 4 and the fucking dawn is coming. LET’S GO,” hinting at the new era of music that’s to come.

Cardi B Gave Birth To Her Second Child Over The Weekend And Shared A Delivery Room Photo

Cardi B started 2021 by sparking pregnancy rumors that turned out to be inaccurate. Not too long after that, though, she actually got pregnant, which she announced at the BET Awards this summer. Now, that process has reached the next logical step: Over the weekend, Cardi gave birth to her second child.

Today, she shared a photo from the hospital, or her holding the baby in her arms as she and Offset gaze at it. Cardi’s caption is seemingly the child’s date of birth: “9/4/21.”

This post is being updated.

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Rotimi Reassures People That LeBron’s “House Party” Remake Will Be Better Than “Space Jam”

Those who have been fearing for the fate of the House Party reboot can once again breathe. One of the film’s stars, Rotimi, sat down for an interview with TMZ, and seemed to be confident that the upcoming edition of the 90s classic is in good hands.

Shortly after the release of Space Jam: A New Legacy, it was revealed that LeBron James’ production company, SpringHill would be heading another remake. Due to the criticism the new Space Jam received, many have been wary that House Party would suffer the same fate.

However, Rotimi made it very clear that while he was on set, things seemed to be running smoothly. The singer-turned-actor feels that the movie has a lot of potential, especially because so many rising young stars who are really seeking to prove themselves are included in the cast.

“We challenged each other on this, man. We knew that creating a generational movie like that, and touching that legacy, we have to bring our A-game,” he told TMZ.

If Rotimi’s word hasn’t convinced you, it’s also worth noting that the House Party 2.0 script was crafted by Emmy-nominated writers Jamal Olori and Stephen Glover, the latter being the younger brother of rapper/actor Donald Glover.

TMZ also notes that the movie is being directed by Charles Kidd II, known by many as Calmatic, who won the 2019 MTV Video Award for Best Direction for his work on Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road.”

Baby Keem’s “the melodic blue” Album Arrives This Week

It’s been a busy year for Baby Keem.

After making a significant return via the Kendrick Lamar-assisted “family ties,” he is wasting no time in delivering on the forthcoming album, taking to Instagram to announce that the tape, the melodic blue, is set to arrive this Friday (September 10).

Keem’s project will mark the first in a string of anticipated projects to come of the newly-minted pgLang venture. “family ties” follows up on the “durag activity” cut that Keem released with Travis Scott, also expected to take its place on the melodic blue.

The project will be Baby Keem’s third full-length release overall and will mark his major-label debut, topping the success found with his breakout DIE FOR MY B*TCH album.

In addition to the preparation of his own project, Keem made a pit stop with a feature on Kanye West’s DONDA, opposite Travis Scott on “Praise God.” Outside of that appearance the West Coast upstart has remained low as the camp cooks up some of the year’s most anticipated releases.

Currently, all eyes also rest on Kendrick Lamar’s forthcoming project, marking his final release under the TDE umbrella, before heading to pgLang indefinitely.

Nicki Minaj Explains Her Reason For Turning Down A Doja Cat Collaboration

Doja Cat’s “Get Into It (Yuh)” has a lot of influence from Nicki Minaj, so much so that Doja even acknowledges it in the song’s closing lines: “Thank you, Nicki, I love you / Got that big rocket launcher!” Minaj was actually meant to feature on the song, but she turned down the opportunity. Now, she has explained why.

Over the weekend, Minaj joined a fan’s Twitter Spaces conversation (as HotNewHipHop notes), and during her visit, a fan speculated that Minaj was too busy to guest on Doja’s album. Minaj set the record straight on that, though, saying:

“It’s not that I’m too busy at all. It’s just that there were, like, middle people involved in that situation, so I had told her, if it was like how me and BIA were direct and we dealt to each other directly [about the ‘Whole Lotta Money’ remix]… but I didn’t love that song [‘Get Into It’] because I didn’t think I could bring anything to it. So I asked them to send me something else. I think that was the second song they sent me, but I asked them to send me something else and they didn’t send me anything else.”

So, ultimately, there seems to be interested in a collaboration from both sides, so it remains to be seen if Doja and Minaj will link up on a song in the future.

Check out a clip from the conversation above.
