Beyonce And Jay-Z’s Basquiat Tiffany Ad Gets Criticized By The Painter’s Collaborators And Friends

According to a new report at The Daily Beast, the new Tiffany & Co. ad campaign featuring Beyonce and Jay-Z posing alongside a rarely-seen canvas by Jean-Michel Basquiat has drawn the ire of the artist’s closest friends and collaborators, some of whom say they were “horrified” to see the ad. They maintain that Basquiat himself would not have approved of such commercial use of his work, calling it a “prop” to give the ad empty cultural clout.

Alexis Adler, who is described as a girlfriend of the late painter who lived with him during his early career, told The Beast, “I’d seen the ad a couple days ago and I was horrified… the commercialization and commodification of Jean and his art at this point—it’s really not what Jean was about.” Alder pointed out that while Basquiat certainly wanted to be commercially successful, he also wanted his art to be accessible. “Unfortunately, the museums came to Jean’s art late, so most of his art is in private hands and people don’t get to see that art except for the shows,” she notes. “Why show it as a prop to an ad? Loan it out to a museum. In a time where there were very few Black artists represented in Western museums, that was his goal: to get to a museum.”

Al Diaz, Basquiat’s partner in the duo SAMO, also criticized the ad for misappropriating Basquiat’s image and reputation as a “luxury” association. “People think that his association with luxury was because he was impressed with that shit, but he couldn’t care less,” he explains. “It’s not just about wearing an Armani suit. If he wore it, it’s because he could buy it and fuck it up, it wasn’t because the stitches were fabulous or well-made… People won’t see the depth. At this point, the only people that could afford a Basquiat are the people he was targeting. Like, you’re the oppressor. They buy it out so that it becomes meaningless.”

And an unnamed curator of Basquiat’s work takes issue with the company’s insistence that the distinctive blue tone used on Equals Pi would ever be a simple tribute to the remarkably similar “Tiffany blue” signature. “Let’s say he did reference that color on purpose — which seems out of character for him to do something that simple — I think it really flattens his artistic approach,” they said. “He was a really deep thinker. His work wasn’t like, this symbolizes this. Everything references something but then it tells a story of that thing. But let’s say he did though… to use it in an ad, it wouldn’t have been the context. It wouldn’t be used to sell Tiffany’s but to say something critical, maybe about blood diamond extraction or something. I just think it’s a reach.”

Rico Nasty Updates Her SoundCloud With Five New Songs Out Of Nowhere

One of the more fun aspects of the way streaming and social media have upended the music business is how artists no longer have to rely on traditional releases to get their new material out. Where in the not-so-distant past, everything hung on a label’s release schedule and the need to manufacture the physical products to send to stores, now, rappers like Rico Nasty can simply upload a batch of new tracks to their SoundCloud pages and notify their fans via Instagram and Twitter, with no need to classify the release as a single or an EP or an album.

And that’s exactly what the elusive, genre-agnostic DMV rapper did over the long weekend, posting the cryptic photo below captioned “Secrets on SoundCloud.” A quick perusal of the SoundCloud bears five new discoveries of unknown origin, each reflecting a different sound from the grand Rico Nasty galaxy of sonic experimentation. There’s the puffy sugar trap of “Show Me Your Love,” the JetsonMade-produced banger “How Ya Feel,” the stripped-down “Switch Places,” the spacey “Cotton Candy,” and the surprisingly vulnerable “Grow Up.”

Meanwhile, Rico has more traditionally released another pair of singles, “Buss” and “Magic,” recently, complete with music videos. Whether all this is ramping up to the follow-up to her debut album Nightmare Vacation remains to be seen, but half the fun is not knowing what she’s got planned next.

You can hear Rico’s new songs here.

Tim Tebow Responds To Jake Paul’s Challenge

It’s been a rough few weeks for Tim Tebow as he was officially let go by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tebow worked out with the team as a tight end despite never having played that position in his life. Unsurprisingly, he wasn’t very good in training camp and as a result, the team cut him. Now, he is a new member of First Take where he will get to debate none other than Stephen A. Smith.

Now, Tebow is being offered another opportunity by none other than Jake Paul. Paul recently came off of a win against Tyron Woodley and he is now looking for more. His challenge to Tebow should come as no surprise when you consider how Jake is always looking for new challenges.

As for Tebow, he went on Sportscenter recently and immediately shot down the idea.

“I did pretend to be Rocky in ‘Lip Sync Battle,’ and I won that one, so I don’t know,” Tebow joked. “I don’t think there’s much of a shot for that. I don’t think that’s where I’m probably going to head next.”

Tebow seems content with just being a broadcaster which makes sense considering his various sports failures. From his days as a quarterback to baseball to tight end, there is no more hope for Tebow as a professional athlete, so he might as well find the stability with ESPN.

As for Paul, he’ll probably fight Woodley again before anything else.

Ben Simmons Was Reportedly Offended By Doc Rivers’ Comments

Ben Simmons has been one of the most hated players over the offseason. After a horrific string of performances in the playoffs, fans have been calling for his head, and now, he is looking to get out of Philadelphia for good. The star player wants to be traded and the Sixers are asking for a lot in return. At this point, it remains unlikely that a team will pay the steep price for Simmons, especially after the postseason he just had.

According to reporter Keith Pompey, Simmons is still mad at the Sixers, especially following the Doc Rivers incident. As many of you remember, Rivers questioned Simmons’ ability to be a point guard on a championship team, and now, Simmons wants the Sixers to pay for not reprimanding the head coach. Based on this analysis, it looks like Simmons is out for revenge.

“There are teams that are interested in Ben Simmons, they just don’t want to pay the steep price,” Pompey told 97.5 The Fanatic. “Ben Simmons knows that, so they are saying why should we help the 76ers out when they feel like when Doc Rivers said what he said, nobody apologized, and Doc was never reprimanded.”

The Sixers situation continues to get more desperate by the day, especially with training camp starting this month. If Simmons chooses to hold out, we could be in for a lengthy dispute that could shake up the league.

In the meantime, stay tuned to HNHH for more updates as the NBA season approaches.

Wendell Pierce Honors “The Wire” Co-Star Michael K. Williams

Following the death of Michael K. Williams, who starred in The Wire, Boardwalk Empire, Lovecraft Country, and more, his co-star Wendell Pierce has offered a few words of reflection.

On-screen, Pierce and Williams were among The Wire’s best pairings. Any time Omar and Bunk shared a scene, it was bound to either drive the plot forward or deliver an integral moment of character development. One highlight in particular —  a contender for the best scene in the entire series, at least for some — arose during the third season’s sixth episode “Homecoming,” as Bunk and Omar have a conversation on a bench.

Though on opposing sides of the law, Bunk and Omar had developed a begrudging respect for one another, leading to a powerful moment where the detective calls Omar’s entire code of principle into question. He doesn’t say much, but Omar’s facial acting and non-verbal responses exemplify the gravitas of Williams as an actor. It’s no surprise that Pierce has spoken so highly of his co-star, and today he reiterated his praise once more.

“From my heart, years ago. I said it then, and it must be said now……” wrote Pierce, via Twitter. He also uploaded a clip of him and Williams during a red carpet interview, allowing his words to be reiterated.

“Michael has contributed two of the most iconic characters in the history of American television,” praises Pierce. “With Omar and with Chalky White. What we are getting to witness in his young career, is one of the great American actors giving voice and flesh to the same characters people would have never given humanity to. Opening a window to a world of men we pass by. It’s one of the most innovative portrayals on television in our generation and it was an honor for me to even share the screen with him.”

“One of the greatest moments I ever had in my career was the scenes that I did with Michael,” he continues. “He’s a very special man and a very special artist. What art is to the community, thought is to the individual. It’s the place we reflect on who we are — and he has opened up a window of reflection to people on the corner who they’d have never given humanity to. He has made people think twice about these men, and that’s classic American television right there. Michael K. Williams.”

Rest in peace to Michael K. Williams. Check out Wendell Pierce’s powerful tribute below.

Pusha T Shares Adorable Photo Of His Son, Nigel Brixx Thornton

Although his subliminal-filled beef with Drake continues as Certified Lover Boy streaming numbers continue to roll in, Pusha T appears to have taken a break from trolling his infamous adversary in favor of hanging out with his family.

Last summer, Pusha T and his wife Virginia Wiliams welcomed their first child, a boy whom they notably named Nigel Brixx Thornton. More than a year following Nigel’s birth, King Push continues to show how proud he is of his son.

The G.O.O.D. Music President took to Instagram to share a new photo of Nigel, and in the picture, you can see Pusha T’s son walking toward him while wearing an astronaut-themed Snoopy shirt and matching Nikes.

“My boy…” Pusha T writes alongside a red heart emoji, and while he doesn’t say much else in the post’s caption, it’s clear that he’s proud to be Nigel’s father.

Pusha T’s post is light on the Brixx puns that fans have been expecting since his birth last summer, but it is still heartwarming nevertheless. Check it the Daytona artist’s proud dad moment below.

Nigel Brixx Thornton recently celebrated his first birthday earlier this summer, so see more of Pusha T’s dad-related content below.

Waffle House Cook Obliterates Unruly Patron In Now Viral Fight Video

Waffle House is known for having some of the best food in the world, especially when it’s 2 AM and you’ve just had a night out on the town. While the food is great, Waffle House has the tendency to become a trending topic every few months, and it typically has nothing to do with the food.

If you’re aware of the restaurant then you know that their employees are better trained for combat than most special forces. Their employees are constantly winning fights with unruly patrons, and that is exactly what happened this past week in a now-viral video.

As you can see in the clip below, a man in a red shirt begins to have a verbal argument with several women, and eventually, it escalates to a point where one of the cooks comes out to take care of the situation. That’s when fists begin to fly and the cook lays down quite the beating. It was nothing short of impressive and as you can imagine, some of the customers were shocked as to what was happening.

Once the video hit social media, many were quick to point out that Waffle House employees are like soldiers at this point and that they are not to be messed with. Some even suggested that the employee should fight the Taliban, which is a pretty hilarious visual.

Hopefully, Dana White was watching as we’d love to see this man get a contract.

Two Songs From Kanye West’s ‘Donda’ Debut In The Top 10 Of The Hot 100 Chart

So far, Kanye West’s new album Donda is an undeniable success. The project debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and its songs are also faring well on an individual basis. Billboard shared the top 10 spots of the Hot 100 chart dated September 11 today, and two of the songs come from Donda: “Hurricane,” which debuts at No. 6, and “Jail,” which comes in at No. 10. West now has 20 top-10 songs on the chart.

While “Hurricane” and “Jail” have guests on them, they aren’t credited as featured artists, so they do not appear on the chart; “Hurricane” includes contributions from The Weeknd and Lil Baby, while “Jail” has a verse from Jay-Z.

Elsewhere on the chart, BTS’ “Butter” returns to the No. 1 spot for a tenth week, making it just one of 40 songs to ever spend at least that long in the top spot. The song’s rise comes after the group released a new remix of it featuring Megan Thee Stallion, although that version of the song didn’t drive enough listening activity to give Megan a credit on the chart.

Meanwhile, Walker Hayes’ “Fancy Like” rises to No. 9 this week, making it just the second country song of the year to make the top 10, following Morgan Wallen’s “Wasted On You.”

Adidas Yeezy 450 “Resin” Coming This Year: On-Foot Photos

Over the last few weeks, Kanye has mostly been focused on his new project DONDA which dropped last Sunday seemingly out of nowhere. The album has been in a heated battle against Drake’s Certified Lover Boy and while CLB is winning the sales race, it seems like fans prefer DONDA when it comes to the music itself. Regardless, Kanye is a busy man and as it stands, he is also working on his infamous Yeezy sneaker line with Adidas.

One of the newer models he has given fans this year is the Adidas Yeezy 450 which is known for its primeknit upper and shark tooth midsole. It is a great shoe and one that fans are eager to see new colorways for. One of those new models is the all-yellow resin offering, which got some new pics thanks to @yankeekicks on Instagram.

In the post below, you can see how the shoe is going to look when paired with pants, and so far, so good. This is one of those sneaker models that is hard to pull off, and it takes a dedicated sneakerhead to even want to try it. Either way, the Yeezy 450 is proving to be a popular model and this “Resin” offering will only take it further.

There is no release date for this shoe, however, it is believed that it will come out closer to December. With this in mind, stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates from the sneaker world.
