Playboi Carti Says Boston Is His Favorite City In Interview With Rick Owens

Playboi Carti only shows us the most incredible, most intricate parts of his life.

Spending most of his time in the shadows and popping out *just* often enough to keep the internet guessing about where he’s at and what he’s up to, the Die Lit rapper always makes sure to show us the most lavish parts of his life. Whether that’s hanging with the biggest names in music and fashion or designer drip anybody would be jealous of, the 25-year-old icon rarely gives us any glimpses into what his normal life is like.

In a new interview with Sedition, however, Carti does just that.

Sitting down with legendary fashion designer Rick Owens ahead of his upcoming Narcisisst tour and supposed album, Carti dove into a handful of topics including breakfast cereals and his favorite Northeast city.

Written in what looks like chalk on a chalkboard, Owens starts out by asking Carti what his favorite breakfast is and also asks him to explain it. Carti, dipping into his nostalgia bag, kept it simple, answering “Corn Flakes with sugar. I just grew up with it.” And when Owens got around to asking the Whole Lotta Red rapper about his all-time favorite city, Carti responded with a semi-surprising answer.

“Boston,” he told Owens. “I feel like I just never leave.”

Boston, not known for being a hub of hip-hop or fashion, is an eye-raiser coming from Carti, especially with his New York ties, but it’s always interesting to hear where rappers of such a massive magnitude like to spend their time. Boston is a major city and the capital of Massachusetts but with a small-town feel and a whole lot of people who could care less what their grandmother is up to, nevermind a famous rapper.

Carti, appearing on the cover of Sedition, also relayed a cryptic message, writing, “In my dream I was flying, dying, crying,” is set to hit the road for his Narcissist tour soon. It is yet to be seen if we’ll be blessed with a full Narcissist project before the tour but featuring stops in Nashville, Brooklyn, Miami, Houston, Chicago, Detroit and Atlanta, fans will at least have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the “Magnolia” rapper.

What do you think about Carti’s feelings about Boston? Let us know in the comments.

Future And Lil Durk Flex All Over The FaZe Kaysan-Produced ‘Made A Way’

FaZe Clan has built a reputation as a haven for some of the coolest personalities in e-sports, with ties to basketball through LeBron’s son FaZe Bronny and plenty of hype in the ever-growing gaming community. FaZe has always made it clear that their scope stretches well beyond just e-sports or video games, though, with a focus on becoming one of the biggest lifestyle brands in the space.

And that’s not the only space the brand is intent on conquering, as they made clear this week with the announcement of their first musician and gamer, FaZe Kaysan. Check out his introduction video below:

Not content to simply roll out this artist with a walkthrough detailing how cool his every day life is, the company also shared a new song that was co-produced by Kaysan and Wondagurl. And while plenty of hip-hop artists thrive off the collaboration ecosystem, Kaysan is coming out of the gate strong with a pair of rappers on his debut single that plenty of fledgling artists would be thrilled to have co-signs from — Future and Lil Durk. On the production side, Wondagurl was also thrilled to be involved and praised Kaysan’s enthusiasm.

“It was a lot of fun connecting with Kaysan on this project,” WondaGurl said of the track. “He has a great vibe and is super enthusiastic, two things that are really important to me when I’m working with new artists. Kaysan has a vision for himself and is driven to succeed and make his mark.”

Anthony Hamilton & Rick Ross Connect On “Real Love”

It’s been well over a year since Rick Ross announced his album, Richer Than I’ve Ever Been but there’s yet to be an actual release date announced. He continuously says it’s coming soon, though at this point, that even feels like an empty promise. Fortunately, we’re not left entirely without new music from Ross. He’s shared a few guest verses in recent times, including a brand new collaboration with Anthony Hamilton. The R&B singer tapped the boss for his latest project, Love Is The New Black on the highlight, “Real Love.” With 9th Wonder on the production, Hamilton’s silky voice meets Ross’ opulent baritone delivery as they detail their own versions of what real love is.

A$AP Rocky’s Met Gala Quilt Has An Uncanny Backstory

This year’s Met Gala drew out countless celebrities and influential pop culture figures, including Megan Thee Stallion, Frank Ocean, Lil Nas X, Kim Kardashian, and even ShaSha’Carri Richardson. From gorgeous outfits to questionable getups, the Met Gala offered plenty of entertainment for fashion critics and fans alike, and one of the most memorable looks came courtesy of A$AP Rocky, who notoriously rocked a giant quilt before ditching it for a more traditional suit and tie ensemble.

Following A$AP Rocky Met Gala appearance alongside his girlfriend Rihanna, social media user @books_n_babies was shocked to discover that the influential artist’s outfit predominantly featured one of her late great-grandmother’s handcrafted pieces.

Apparently, that social media user’s hunch was spot-on because it has been confirmed that the base of the  ERL-designed piece was created using a repurposed antique quilt. According to Complex, user @books_n_babies has offered an in-depth breakdown of the quilt’s touching journey from being one of her family’s beloved heirlooms to becoming an unsuspecting pop culture artifact.

“So my great grandmothers quilt was donated to an antique/thrift store a while back. When I saw the #metgala Photo I realized instantly that it had to be the same quilt,” she said in her original post. “I read the vogue article about the designer finding the quilt in Southern California and with his office not that far from us in Venice California, I demanded that my mom go look for the photos of it on our old bed.”

“Looks like great grandma Mary went to the #metgala with @asaprocky and @erl__________,” she said, concluding her first post about the uncanny situation.

The Instagram user doubled back with another post and clarified that she had no intentions of shaming or criticizing the designers, and in fact, she revealed that both ERL and Zak Foster, the quilter who helped repurpose her great-grandmother’s work, had been in contact with her original post went viral. Instead, she shared more old pictures of the quilt and reassured fans that her family still retains many of her great-grandmother’s handcrafted designs.

“I posted this because I found it amazing that some thing that my great grandmother made out of love for my mother,to be used to keep her warm ,and was donated so that it might keep somebody else warm or sold to raise funds for a lovely charity, ended up being used for an amazing statement art piece by amazingly talented people who took it to the next level,” she wrote. “And to everyone who is concerned that we gave away this quilt, please don’t be worried we still have many quilts and afghans and handmade lovey‘s that she left behind for us.”

Given the shocking backstory behind A$AP Rocky’s second-hand quilt, are you a little more impressed with the Testing artist‘s Met Gala look?

Anthony Hamilton Shares His Latest Project “Love Is The New Black”

Legendary R&B star Anthony Hamilton came through this past week with his brand new project, Love Is The New Black. Serving as his eighth studio album, the Charlotte-born singer explores timely topics of the past year, from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic to the social justice issues that made waves throughout 2020. However, there are still plenty of moments where Hamilton’s diving into his emotions with sultry love songs.

Love Is The New Black includes features from Lil Jon, Rick Ross, and Jennifer Hudson, as well as production from Bink!, Jermaine Dupri, 9th Wonder, Cardiak, and more.

“This whole last year allowed me to see that I don’t have to rush things,” Hamilton told NPR of his creative process with this album. “It taught me to really be intentional about what I want to say, to be intentional about the message I want to get out. There’s a lot of noise. And so I took that time to really focus on: How do I want to say this? What do I really want to say?”

Air Jordan 12 “Royalty” Officially Unveiled: Photos & Release Date

Heading into the 1996-1997 NBA season, Michael Jordan was coming off the most historic season in basketball history, leading the Bulls to a 72-10 regular season record and their fourth championship in six years. Jordan was also coming off arguably his most historic season in terms of sneakers.

Rocking the mythical Jordan 11s (Concords, Breds, Space Jams) for the majority of the ’95-’96 season, Jordan entered his second-to-last season in Chicago getting ready to retire the 11s and move onto the 12s. And in leading the Bulls to their fifth championship, MJ also gave yet another Air Jordan model his stamp of approval and added signature moments to go along with signature sneakers.

More than 20 years later, the Air Jordan 12 is still in style and with its upcoming “Royalty” colorway, the Air Jordan 12 is still evolving.

According to HighSnobiety, the Air Jordan 12 “Royalty” is set to drop October 9 via Nike’s SNKRS app and will retail for $190.

The “Royalty” colorwary, which strikes a stunning resemblance to the classic Jordan 12 “Taxi” colorway, features an all-white, tumbled leather upper with black, pebbled-leather mudguards. Black laces, interior lining, heel tabs sit atop a black, rubber outsole while metallic gold eyestays, instep plates and branding on both the tongue and heel accent the rest of the sneaker.

Looking exactly like someone took a Air Jordan 12 “Taxi” and gave it all of the modern flare, the Air Jordan 12 “Royalty” is sure to turn heads and is sleek enough for any outfit but is still a hoop shoe for whatever brave soul wants to get them on the court.

Check out the “Royalty” 12s below and let us know if you’ll be copping when they drop in a couple weeks.

Quando Rondo Wants King Von’s Accused Killer Lul Tim Freed

It’s been a wild year for rapper Quando Rondo. The Georgia-based rapper, who is signed to YoungBoy Never Broke Again, was involved in an altercation with rapper King Von on the night of his death. Lul Tim, a member of Quando’s entourage, allegedly opened fire, striking Von and killing him. He was charged but was later released from jail.

Last week, Lul Tim, real name Timothy Leeks, was arrested in his home state on a number of different charges. He was accused of speeding, blowing a stop sign, illegally turning left at an intersection, following another car too closely, driving on the wrong side of the road, reckless driving, obstruction, fleeing police, and more. According to Quando, Lul Tim is still locked up for his most recent arrest, and he’s calling for the rapper to be freed.

“Free Lul Tim,” tweeted Quando with a crying face emoji. “I Miss You Like Af.”

Previously, Quando showed love to Lul Tim by spoiling him with new jewelry following his release from jail. The two have been equally supportive of each other as the public has turned on them because of their alleged role in King Von’s murder.

We will keep you posted with updates on Lul Tim’s status as that information becomes available.

ILoveMakonnen Shares New Single “To The Edge”

Throughout the ups and downs of his career, ILoveMakonnen has never allowed negativity to seep into his creative process. Though singles like the breakout hit “Tuesday” propelled him towards the pop charts, he’s pushed the boundaries of pop and trap music at a time when electronic music was beginning to influence every other genre of music. His latest single, “On The Edge,” leans far more towards his pop side with 80s electro influence bleeding through the production.

His latest single arrives ahead of the release of his forthcoming project, DMW007 which has yet to secure a release date. However, it looks like we’ll likely get a few more singles before the body of work finally drops.

Check out the latest from Makonnen below and sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

Fat Joe Is Convinced ‘Everybody’ — Including Himself — Is Afraid To Verzuz Battle Busta Rhymes

“‘Fat Joe scared to do Verzuz with Busta Rhymes’ and so is everybody else.” So says… Fat Joe, who spoke on the possibility on his latest Friday live stream on Instagram. Amid talking about all the hot topics heading into the weekend, Joe touched on his recent Verzuz battle with Ja Rule, addressing the fan criticism that he’d ducked a similar faceoff against the other hip-hop legend, whose career of hits extends back 30 years to his breakout appearance on A Tribe Called Quest’s seminal posse cut, “Scenario.”

In defending himself, Joe praised Busta’s legacy and untouchable record of fan-favorite jams. “You gotta understand, sometimes you ever notice — you seen boxers and they knock everybody out?” he asked before insisting that, “People be scared to fight those boxers. Busta Rhymes is gonna out-rap, outperform anybody who goes up in a Verzuz with him. That’s a fact. Yo, Busta Rhymes, nobody wanna get in there with you, man. You might have to be an honorary — they gotta give you the check for no reason.”

Joe would know; in his battle with Ja Rule, despite his advantage in longevity, Rule pulled out way too many undeniable jams for him to keep up (it didn’t help he played a lot of his backpack rap favorites in a hits battle). Meanwhile, Rule had been taunting 50 Cent, hoping to joust with his onetime rival — who declined. Meanwhile, suitable opponents have yet to be found for other such legends like Eminem, Jay-Z, and Nas.
