On this date in 1994, Parrish “PMD” Smith of the legendary Long Island rap duo EPMD released his first solo album after his split from Erick Sermon entitled Shadē Business under the RCA Records umbrella.
This LP received less than its fair share of fanfare, peaking at number 42 on the Billboard 200 with no “crossover” single, ironically a term coined by EPMD just two years earlier on their last album together. Even with solid, exclusive production from EPMD’s own DJ Scratch, Shadē Business’ Zoneside vs. Darkside concept did not grab the ears of Hip Hop fans who were due to hear another “Business” album from the “brothers from Brentwood, Long Island”.
The 14-track album featured the likes of DJ Mark the 45 King, Jesse West and the Hit Squad’s most recent signees at the time, Das EFX.
Salute to PMD, Scratch, Das EFX and the rest of the Hit Squad for this piece of Hip Hop History!
