This week’s exclusive playlist comes from the versatile Tyler Tolbert, the multi-purpose player drafted by the Kansas City Royals organization back in 2019. The 26-year-old plays multiple positions, including second base and shortstop in the infield and has proven to be a stellar center fielder in the outfield. He’s played next to the likes of Maikel Garcia in Single-A ball and Michael Massey in High-A, so the Royals have had him pegged all 2024 as the next on deck.
After being drafted by the Royals in the 13th round of the MLB Draft in ’19, Tolbert played at Quad Cities until 2022, where he left with a .224 batting average, boasting 4 dingers and 36 RBIs in 116 games. He followed up with a season, where in just 32 games, Tolbert racked up 12 RBIs, 15 stolen bases and 38 hits. This year, Tolbert, has been playing for Double-A Royals affiliate the Northwest Arkansas Naturals, where he’s averaging .327/.338/.665 with a .239 overallaverage at the plate.
As a Birmingham native, there’s no question why Tolbert’s playlist is so laden with the South, with artists like Future, Lil Baby and Moneybagg Yo on heavy rotation. Check out the playlist below with all of Tolbert’s favorite tracks courtesy of Cheats and the Black Baseball Mixtape!
