On Monday, July 22nd, the students of Quavo’s Rocket Camp had an unforgettable experience at Quality Control Music Studio in Atlanta. As part of the 10-week summer youth program, the camp’s participants, ranging from ages 13 to 18, were treated to a Music Education Workshop Day, where they engaged directly with industry professionals and gained hands-on experience in music production.
Rocket Camp: A Summer Program for At-Risk Youth
Rocket Camp, powered by The Rocket Foundation in partnership with several key organizations including the Offender Alumni Association (OAA), the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia (USAONDGA), Fulton County Juvenile Court, and others, aims to empower at-risk youth through education, mentorship, and community involvement. Launched on May 31st and set to conclude on July 31st, the program offers various enriching activities, including career readiness training, community service projects, and HBCU campus visits.
Quavo’s Vision and Mission
GRAMMY-nominated artist and philanthropist Quavo, who founded The Rocket Foundation in November 2022 to honor the life and legacy of Takeoff, spearheads this initiative. The foundation focuses on supporting community-based solutions to prevent gun violence and has partnered with organizations such as Offender Alumni Association and Community Justice Action Fund to further its mission.
A Day at Quality Control Music Studio
The Music Education Workshop at Quality Control Music Studio, home to many of today’s top hip-hop artists, provided Rocket Camp participants with a unique opportunity to explore the music industry. During the workshop, students interacted with audio engineers and other industry professionals, gaining insights into music production and the creative process. The event was co-hosted by the Office of Arts and Academics (OAA) and the Credible Messengers, with support from The Rocket Foundation.
Quavo, who has been instrumental in the program’s success, expressed his commitment to inspiring and empowering the next generation. “Our goal with Rocket Camp is to give these young people the tools and opportunities they need to succeed,” he said. “This workshop at Quality Control Music Studio is just one example of how we can make a positive impact on their lives.”
Program Highlights and Future Aspirations
Rocket Camp not only focuses on music education but also includes Youth and Family Support Forums, Career Readiness and Entrepreneurship Training, and more. Participants receive stipends, awards, and are celebrated at the end of the summer. The program’s comprehensive approach aims to inspire future leaders and provide them with the resources needed to thrive.
As the summer program draws to a close, Quavo and The Rocket Foundation remain dedicated to their mission of creating lasting change in the community. The success of Rocket Camp and the positive feedback from its participants highlight the importance of such initiatives in fostering hope and opportunity for at-risk youth.
