Ice Cube Explains Dr. Dre Absence From N.W.A. Grammy Acceptance

Dr. Dre was a notable omission from the group of N.W.A. members who were present in LA on Saturday to receive a lifetime achievement award from the Grammys. However Ice Cube explained the icon’s absence. “My man, Dr. Dre, is not here. He wanted to make sure I let you know he’s not hating. He a billionaire. He got sh-t to do,” Cube told the assembled audience. Cube went on to praise Dre for his “brilliance, talent, and leadership”.

Elsewhere, Cube also spoke on the surreal nature of receiving a Grammy for his musical work. “We knew when we started to do music in 1985, ’86, ’87 that a Grammy was not in the cards for us, with the type of music we was doing. We actually didn’t think we would ever even get on the radio. We was cool with that,” Cube said.

Ice Cube Speaks On Receiving Hall Of Fame Impact Award

However, a lifetime achievement Grammy is just the latest award that Ice Cube has earned in recent weeks. In January, Cube received the inaugural Community Impact Award from the Basketball Hall of Fame. “This is big time! I’ve had passion for music, and in movies and sports. I’ve ended up in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame — not reaching for that, but just having the passion at the right time. I got a star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood just [from] having passion to do good work. And then in sports this is another milestone that’s just off the chart. Because no way, shape or form did I ever think I would be in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame — for any reason,” Cube told HipHopDX.

Furthermore, Cube revealed that he in no way expected the award when it was revealed in November 2023. “It was a total surprise. Of course, we felt like our position when it comes to the NBA has been publicized, and so we didn’t think we had the shot to ever be involved with the Basketball Hall of Fame. But what they explained to us was that they’re not the NBA Hall of Fame, they’re Basketball Hall of Fame. They honor high school, college, pros, and they see the BIG3 as a great asset to the game. And so you just never think about it, and here we are,” the rapper added.

Kid Cudi Reveals Details About “INSANO” Deluxe Edition

The deluxe edition of INSANO will have 18 tracks, according to Kid Cudi. “The deluxe is pretty much a whole nother album, in the spirit of INSANO, but a continuation, a elevation of the vibes. 18 tracks. #INSANO,” Cudi wrote on Twitter. However, Cudi didn’t reveal anything else, such as new features on the deluxe or what the new tracks entail. However, fans appear excited about the prospect of Cudi in the near future. Many fans responded to his news with stories of listening to INSANO while under the influence.

INSANO was released in mid-January to mostly favorable reviews. However, it flagged in terms of sales and only peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Album 200. That matched the peak of 2022’s Entergalatic but also tied the lowest peak for a Cudi album since 2015’s Speedin Bullet 2 Heaven (No. 38). How do you feel about INSANO? Kid Cudi Reveals His Next Acting Role Is A Dystopian Sci-Fi Horror Film

Meanwhile, Cudi is returning to acting with a new animated vehicle, Slime. The Cleveland musician is set to star in and produce the film about two individuals who set off on a quest to find a cure for the side effects of a medical trial. The film will serve as the directorial debut of Jeron Braxton, an animator best known for Baby Demon. The script is the work of Brian Ash, best known for The Boondocks.

Cudi is set to play Glenn, a lab worker kidnapped by protagonist Muna as she searches for a cure for the trial that she underwent and that Glenn was involved in. It has not been revealed at this time who will be voicing Muna. This year, Cudi won an Emmy for his work in the trippy Netflix special, Entergalatic. He also had a supporting role in the Disney+ series Crater. However, the series was controversially pulled by the streaming platform after just a few weeks.

The two artists have taken various shots at one another on social media, and things were even expected to turn violent when they scheduled a fight late last year. Luckily, nothing ever came of the planned brawl, but Soulja Boy continues to throw jabs online.

Last week, for example, he took aim at Blueface and Chrisean Rock’s five-month-old son, Chrisean Jr. He claimed that the little one looks “like he got down syndrome,” also making various disparaging comments about his mother. “F*ck that little r*tarded a** baby,” he said, “F*ck the baby, f*ck Blueface, f*ck Chrisean! F*ck all three of y’all!” In an unexpected turn of events, however, it appears as though the “Crank That” performer has had a change of heart. Recently, he took to social media to offer Chrisean an apology, at least partially.

One particularly big fan of the Dreamville rapper found his signature on a poster around the city of a recent tour stop, and ripped it right off the wall. Turns out that he actually referenced this incident while onstage, and in the clip below, you can see him acknowledge the fan in the crowd who screamed to take credit.

Furthermore, this parallels the wild fan interactions that Drake experienced during his 2023 concerts. While he certainly has more commercial and universal appeal when it comes to fanbases, few die-hards support their GOAT more than J. Cole fans. As such, it’s heartening to see him acknowledge this outpouring of love, especially as one of the best rappers of the 2010s decade still going strong. Surely, it can be hard sometimes to keep this acclaim in mind when dealing with other stresses such as, let’s say, touring with the 6ix God.
