“Boogie” Soundtrack Features Pop Smoke, Polo G, & More

The soundtrack to Eddie Huang’s Boogie has officially arrived, having already garnered attention through Pop Smoke’s involvement in the film. For those who don’t know, the late rapper actually made his acting debut in the new flick, which officially dropped off today. As such, Pop Smoke’s presence on the soundtrack was inevitable; fans will be pleased to know that the Brooklyn drill innovator is involved with four out of fourteen songs, though one is his breakout hit “Welcome To The Party.”

In addition to Pop, the Boogie soundtrack also features appearances from Polo G, Sheff G, 10k Mula, Nycani, Jacquees, Triad God, and more. There’s a clear vibe on this one, an interesting blend of Brooklyn drill and Asian hip-hop, which certainly makes the soundtrack a unique listening experience when played from start to finish. Songs like the hard-hitting “Plug Speak Taiwanese” by Bad Boy Raco G and the atmospheric and emotional “So Pay La” by Triad God will certainly be uncharted territory to many, while the stylings of Sheff G and 10K Mula imbue the tape with a distinctly familiar feel.

Given the disparate sounds and arranged throughout, the Boogie soundtrack successfully captures that cinematic quality, taking listeners on a journey should they be willing to embark. Plus, it’s always welcome to hear some new Pop Smoke. Check it out now.

Charges Against Breonna Taylor’s Boyfriend Kenneth Walker May Be Permanently Dismissed

On March 13, 2020, Breonna Taylor was fatally shot in her Louisville, Kentucky apartment by plainclothes police officers while she was asleep. Officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove forced entry into the apartment on suspicion of a drug-dealing operation. Breonna’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker fired a warning shot at police, who he believed to be intruders. The officers then fired 32 shots in return. The shocking case sparked outrage across the country, and Walker was initially charged with assault and attempted murder of a police officer.

Later last year, the charges against Walker were dropped without prejudice, meaning that he could be charged again if new information presented itself during the investigation. In a new report, prosecutors have noted that the investigation is now complete and that there is “no new information relevant to the charges” regarding Walker.

“Kenneth is relieved that, after the worst year of his life, prosecutors have finally acknowledged that he did nothing wrong and acted in self-defense,” Walker’s attorney Steve Romines told regional CBS outlet WLKY. “He looks forward to continuing the fight to hold the real wrongdoers accountable for the harm that they’ve caused. Both he, individually, and our community, as a whole, cannot begin the process of healing until that happens.”

Romines is moving for the charges against Walker to now be dropped with prejudice, meaning that they can never be filed again. Watch the statement from WLKY below.

Drake & Rick Ross Make Magic Again On “Lemon Pepper Freestyle”

The Boy is officially back. On Thursday night, Drake went live on his new 24-hour stream of OVO Sound Radio on SiriusXM’s SOUND 42 channel before releasing his new three-pack Scary Hours 2, the continuation of his 2018 EP of the same name. During the lead-up to the release of his next studio album Certified Lover Boy, Drake teased fans with “What’s Next“, “Wants and Needs” with Lil Baby, and “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” with Rick Ross. “LPF” marks yet another collaboration between Drake and Rick Ross, one of many in recent years, and it’s being celebrated as one of Drake’s best performances in a long time.

Already, despite the song only being out for a matter of hours, people are saying that “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” is one of Drake’s best verses ever. The song starts off with a prominent sample that Drake was bound to love, allowing room for Rick Ross to spit for a couple of minutes before the Toronto native steps in for the rest of the way. His “Facts” stretch, his effortless flowing, and his perfect delivery highlight yet another awesome display from one of the game’s top-steppers. It’s not a surprise that people instantly gravitated to this one and loved it, but do you think it’s one of Drake’s best performances ever?

Chime in in the comments.

Quotable Lyrics:

Damn, not too many parallels left in our lives
I mean, my crib look bigger through my son’s eyes
And the squad look bigger to the young guys
And my d*ck feel better when you drunk, right?
Spend nighttime starin’ at the sunrise
And my diamonds all hittin’ like tie-dye
Air Canada Centre n***a when I die
Y’all gon’ have to fly in and do your fake cry
First couple rows, you gon’ see the real guys
The ones that purchase they vehicles ’cause their trunk size
The ones that look at other rappers like it’s lunchtime
Watch on my wrist never showed me crunch time

Saweetie & Doja Cat Add Stefflon Don To Their “Best Friend (Remix)”

There’s always room for one more, so Saweetie and Doja Cat have made a space for Stefflon Don to share her talents. Not long after we all celebrated the turn of the new year, Saweetie shared her “Best Friend” single featuring Doja. The pair joined forces for a playful music video where they did all the things that besties do, and after the track became a fan favorite, British rapper Stefflon Don chimed in with a few bars added to the remix.

“Best Friend” was a controversial track prior to its release after it hit streaming services prematurely. Saweetie took to social media to call out her label for the mishap, and the team quickly got themselves together and removed the single. It later arrived on January 7 and acts as the third single from Saweetie’s anticipated debut studio album, Pretty B*tch Music, which is slated for release sometime this year. Check out “Best Friend (Remix)” and share your thoughts.

Quotable Lyrics

You know I’m always killin’ the show
In the streets I’m a lady, in the bed I’m a hoe
Ain’t a stripper but I really put it down on the pole
Plus I get dizzy in the kitchen, flick my wrist on the stove
