Lil Yachty Received Death Threats Over 2Pac & Biggie Comments

Lil Yachty recently delivered his new album Michigan Boy Boat, a project that features guest appearances from Sada Baby, Swae Lee, Tee Grizzley, and more. In honor of the Detroit-centric project, Yachty took a moment to chop it up with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, where he took a moment to revisit a few controversial comments he made about 2Pac and Biggie at the beginning of his rise.

In case you need a refresher, Yachty originally found himself drawing flak after calling the Notorious B.I.G overrated and revealing that he didn’t know five songs by 2Pac Shakur. Given that the comments were made during a time where tension between older and young artists was steadily rising, it didn’t take long before Boat was fielding a wave of hostility from longtime hip-hop heads.

Years removed from the debacle, Yachty has a few thoughts on how it all played out. “I never meant to disrespect,” he explains. “I was just being honest. I didn’t have any media training, right? All I knew was to be an honest person…I’m going to tell the truth.”

“I didn’t say they were trash,” he states, maintaining that his statement was strictly his opinion. “Rap is opinionated, everything is opinionated…I was so young. I was like 19, 18, 19. I had never in my life, I had never been hated like that. People hated me after that, like death threats. I think that’s what really started that hate for me.”

“So many people were just automatically trying to dump me like he’s whack, he’s corny, or whatever the case may be,” admits Boat. “But it taught me a lot. It built my character up and made me so strong and put a shell around me. Like to a point, I got into so much shit I don’t care about anything now. I’m thankful for it because my emotions can’t hear it. Now look, say whatever they want to say. I don’t care. You know what I’m saying? And I made it through that. I made it through that and I’m still successful. And I’m still here to this day, it’s five years later, I did it.”

Chief Keef & Soulja Boy Reunite In New Photos

Earlier this year, Chief Keef had fans worried after posting an alarming Instagram story that revealed that the beloved Chicago rapper had been hospitalized. Although more information regarding his hospital visit in February never really surfaced, fans can let out a collective sigh because since then, he has shown love to Lil Yachty and, apparently, linked up with Atlanta rapper Soulja Boy.

In a new post to Soulja Boy‘s Instagram account, the two influential rappers — who have previously collaborated on songs like 2012 cuts “Ugly” and “Foreign Cars” — posed for a couple of flicks.

Soulja Boy shows love to Chief Keef by writing, “For life,” which is immediately followed by a barrage of “100” emojis. In the pictures, both rappers can be seen laughing while hitting some of their signature poses. Due to Big Draco’s minimal caption, the reason behind their reunion isn’t clear, but fans of both artists can only hope that they have been working on new music.

Perhaps Soulja Boy will be following up the viral success of “She Make It Clap” with a new song with his frequent collaborator. If so, would you be excited to hear what Soulja Boy and Chief Keef would cook up in 2021?

LeBron James Credits Dipset For Knicks Success

This season has been quite kind to the New York Knicks, who are typically among the league’s worst teams. Luckily for Knicks fans, the team has been able to turn it around and now, they are fourth place in the Eastern Conference and are surely on their way to making the playoffs. It’s a massive turnaround that virtually no one saw coming, and many are looking for answers.

DJ First Class on Twitter recently brought up the infamous Dipset freestyle which was performed recently as part of a collaboration with KITH. He noted that the Knicks have been on a mission ever since the freestyle was done, and it’s hard to deny the timing of it all. Even LeBron had something to say, as he noted that he loves what’s happening to New York right now.

“Ain’t no denying DIPSET!” LeBron wrote. “And the league is simply better off when the Knicks are winning.” LeBron has some history with the Knicks as there were rumors that he would join the team back in 2010. Of course, that never happened although LeBron’s love for the franchise always remained strong.

Regardless of who is responsible for the Knicks play right now, it is clear they are giving their fans a reason to be excited again. If they can manage to win a playoff series, then we can only imagine the sort of partying that will be done.

Vic Mensa And Chance The Rapper Strip Down ‘Shelter’ For An Acoustic Live Performance

After producing a few hilarious skits and a slick new single, we’re still not sure exactly what Chance The Rapper’s “House Of Kicks” really is. However, the creative run he’s been on since teasingThe Heart & The Tongue” last month has apparently extended to shooting live, stripped-down performances, as well. Today, Chance shared a self-directed video of his good friend Vic Mensa performing an acoustic rendition of his soulful single “Shelter” at Chance’s house, with The Rapper filling in for Wyclef Jean on the chorus.

The performance opens with Vic performing his verse in front of a crackling fireplace backed by a mellow orchestral arrangement sans drums. Meanwhile, Chance leans on his picture windowsill across the room to sing the tender hook and perform his own verse. The two rappers harmonize nicely on the chorus, then the video loses saturation for a black-and-white view of Vic’s final verse and the song’s outro.

“Shelter” was the friends’ first on-record reunion since 2013, when they guested on each other’s mixtapes Acid Rap and Innanetape. They had a falling out as they both rose to stardom, but were eventually able to put their differences aside as both found their footing in fame, with Chance starting a family and Vic returning to form on the fiery V Tape. They finally reunited officially on Vic’s follow-up, I Tape, and it seems that the creative chemistry they once shared seems intact and growing.

Lil Nas X Drops A New Version Of ‘Montero’ He Made Entirely With Mouth Sounds

Lil Nas X is not one to be content with releasing just one version of a song, especially when there’s potential success to be milked from remixes. That’s something he’s joked about with “Old Town Road” (which had a bunch of different versions) and a strategy he’s also put into practice with “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” So far, he has released versions of the song subtitled “But Lil Nas X Is Silent The Entire Time,” “SATAN’S EXTENDED Version,” and “but it’s lofi and something you can study to lol.” Now he’s back with another one: “Montero (Call Me By Your Name) (But Lil Nas X Makes All The Sounds With His Mouth).”

The video sees different clips of the rapper in front of colorful backgrounds arranged in a Brady Bunch grid on the screen, like what Jimmy Fallon and The Roots have done on The Tonight Show time and time and time and time and time again over the years. As for the recording itself, with all the sounds layered on top of each other, it’s actually a decent reproduction of the original song.

Terrence Clarke Tragically Passes Away In Car Accident

Tragedy struck the basketball community on Thursday as former Kentucky Wildcats star Terrence Clarke passed away after a car accident. Clarke was just 19 years old and he was in the midst of preparing for the NBA draft. In fact, Clarke had signed with Klutch Sports just a day before the tragedy.

Clarke was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the incident although his teammate BJ Boston was following him in another car. It is believed that Clarke was not wearing his seatbelt and ran a red light, which led to a collision with another car. Following the news, Clarke’s former coach John Calipari released a statement about just how devastating this is.

“I am absolutely gutted and sick tonight,” Calipari said. “A young person who we all love has just lost his life too soon, one with all of his dreams and hopes ahead of him. Terrence Clarke was a beautiful kid, someone who owned the room with his personality, smile and joy. People gravitated to him, and to hear we have lost him is just hard for all of us to comprehend right now. We are all in shock.”

This is an incredibly difficult time for all of those involved and our heart goes out to Clarke’s family. RIP Terrence Clarke.

Mike Dean Embarks On A Synth Odyssey With “4:22”

Mike Dean is a legend behind the boards, a trusted engineering innovator seldom seen without a lit joint in hand. Having played an integral role in shaping the sound of artists like Travis Scott, Kanye West, Beyonce, and many more, Dean has earned his reputation as being one of the game’s most sought-after producers. Yet it mustn’t be forgotten that the Texan vet can put in work on the keyboards, and today’s release of the weed-scented musical odyssey 4:22  proves exactly that.

Clocking in at a staggering twenty-eight tracks, the ambitious instrumental endeavor finds Dean locking in with nothing but his wits, good weed, and his vast arsenal of instruments at his disposal. Said arsenal includes synthesizers, the likes of which can only be tamed by the practiced hand of an analog-savvy purist, as well as guitars and drum machines. Though his hip-hop influences certainly bleed through every now and again, 4:22 tends to favor the slow-burning soundscape, with Dean often allowing listeners ample time to lose themselves in the music.

Should you appreciate evocative instrumental music — skewed in favor of the stoned, at that — be sure to dive into Mike Dean’s 4:22. Those familiar with his work alongside Travis Scott and Kanye should recognize more than a few tricks, a testament to how much musical influence Dean has over some of the game’s biggest superstars. Check it out for yourself now, and sound off below with your thoughts on the project.

Fivio Foreign Is “Unruly” On His Upbeat New Single

Yesterday, reports surfaced that Fivio Foreign had reportedly been arrested in New Jersery while carrying a loaded handgun with a scrubbed-off serial number. His reported charges include the possession of a firearm for unlawful purposes, resisting arrest, the possession of a defaced firearm, the possession of a firearm without the required permit, and more.

While fans continue to wait for more developments regarding Fivio Foreign‘s recent legal troubles, the rising New York artist and 2020 XXL Freshman has treated fans with a new single, titled “Unruly.”

Produced by Nils and Kenny Beats, “Unruly” offers a new horn-driven take on the buzzing Brooklyn Drill genre and finds Fivio Foreign in his element, spitting spaced-out, yet energetic lines that fit perfectly over the upbeat production. Throughout the single, Fivio sprinkles in some pretty clever and humorous lines, including a reference to Drake’s 2020 smash hit “Toosie Slide” and a comical bar in which he avidly requests the Illuminati’s phone number.

“Unruly” also arrived alongside a crisp music video that’s undoubtedly inspired by Lil Wayne’s classic visuals for “A Milli.” Check out the music video for Fivio Foreign new single “Unruly” below.

Quotable Lyrics

They cannot chill with the don (They can’t)

I don’t deal with the punks (I don’t)
Uh (Uh), my heart cold (Heart cold)
All of my feelings is gone, ayy, ayy (Brr)
