SK8 Says He Started Smoking In 8th Grade On This Week’s Top 5s

This week, 26-year-old Nathan Montgomery Maloley, better known as SK8, spoke with HotNewHipHop about his Top 5 things to do in his hometown, Omaha, his favorite restaurants, his favorite basketball players, of which his #1 was Kobe, and more. SK8 also talked about his top 5 favorite weed strains, which he had a funny anecdote to go alongside. He recalled that his first time smoking was when he was in 8th grade, hanging out with some older kids.

“Yeah, first time I started smoking was… I think I was, middle school, 8th grade, so I’d have been what? 13 or some sh*t? You know, I tried it out… it was the older homies though. I was always kicking it with the older homies… homie had like a van, he had something rolled up I ain’t never smoked before. He was like, ‘you gotta try this.’ I’m like, ‘I heard about this, I don’t know, they talkin’ about this the gateway.’ And I said shit, let’s do it. And they passed the blunt to me, and it was a wrap after that.”

SK8 also cited his love for chicken during the episode. He called Chick-Fil-A one of his favorite restaurants, saying he “could eat that sh*t for lunch every f*cking day.” He also put a chicken finger basket as his top 3 snack, saying, “Chicken fingers and fries. That’s my sh*t.” Those are some pretty strong feelings!

Check out all of SK8’s top 5 favorites in the newest episode of Top 5s.

Derrick Rose Teases His Upcoming Yeezy Collaboration

Over the last few months, there have been some rumors floating around that Derrick Rose would be doing a Yeezy collab. Of course, Rose is from Chicago and even has his very own deal with Adidas, which makes him the perfect person to work with Kanye West. In fact, there have been various teasers of their upcoming shoe, although unfortunately, there really is no timeline for when any of it will be released.

Recently, however, Rose took to Instagram with a lengthy post about how his collaboration with Ye came together. As Rose explained, he had no idea that Kanye wanted to work with him in such a capacity and that at the end of the day, it is a dream come true. Rose has been a fan since Ye came into the game, and he made sure to pay homage with this IG post.

“Big bro team walks in and say they have to talk business and me and my Queen were about to leave the room and give them their space to talk business. He told us to not leave… G shit! His team was telling him to really think about the decision becuz it was going to be time consuming and he had a lot on his plate at that time. Next day we get on the plane to head back home and we seen that he did the GAP deal,” Rose wrote. […] “He’s from Chicago and we are use to people trying to shit on us. The environment is full of THAT hate you showed. Who really cares if it’s 1 or 6 BILLION lol. He represents Black Opulence and we love Ye for that and always will. People hate on him but deeeeeep down you know it’s inspiring. Peace and love King.”

Fans are eager to see what Rose has in store with Yeezy and it seems like those prayers will be answered soon. Kanye always comes through with unique designs, and with Rose backing the brand, Yeezy is in for a massive 2021.

Queen Naija & Ari Lennox Announce New Collaboration But Fans Aren’t Here For It

Being caught perpetuating colorism is one of those things the internet never forgets. DaniLeigh recently had to face the internet’s scrutiny over her perceived colorist actions and continues to do so even long after issuing numerous apologies. Fair to say, colorism in the music industry is not something that is easily forgiven by the audience. Queen Naija caught fire after colorist comments she made about “nappy-headed” women resurfaced and have loomed over her heard despite her public apologies. Considering this, it’s no wonder social media had a lot to say when the songstress announced an upcoming collaboration with Ari Lennox.

Preparing to get the ball moving on the rollout of her sophomore album Missunderstood…still, the “Medicine” singer began by announcing the first single from the project. “Set him up 4/7/21,” wrote Queen Naija in the announcement, sharing the sexy red-lit single cover starring her and the first lady of Dreamville.

“I wasn’t playing…. out April 7th,” penned Ari Lennox in a separate tweet on her account. The tweet from Lennox is what prompted the mass criticism from Twitter users who questioned why she would collaborate with someone who had said negative things about dark skin women in the past as a Black woman herself.

The Shea Butter Baby artist’s tweet currently sits at 6,000 RTS and 3,890 quote replies, which in Twitter term translates into a controversial topic.

“Ari she said she don’t like nappy headed darkskins,” penned one fan directly under Lennox’s tweet. Another user wrote, “ari lennox has a song with queen naija????? now who does that make sense too.”

Others defended Queen Naija, noting she’s apologized multiple times and no longer holds those views. Check out more reactions to the collaboration and let us now your take below as well.

Lakeyah Isn’t Taking Any Disrespect On “Easy”

On “Easy,” Lakeyah breaks down how she sets the example for other women in the industry through her success. It took the Milwaukee artist a lot of hard work to get to where she is today, and becoming a recording artist came at the expense of dropping out of the Art Institute of Atlanta and quitting jobs like McDonald’s and Target. It was all worth it, though, because now she can talk over everyone who didn’t believe in her. “Well, tell that bitch to shut her mouth if she ain’t poppin’ shit / Bitch, I want the Dolce & Gabbana, I don’t politic,” she raps.

Lakeyah calls being signed to Quality Control her biggest accomplishment, and her 2020 label debut Time’s Up featured standout tracks like “Female Goat” with City Girls and “Big FlexHer” with 42 Dugg. Her next tape, In Due Time, is sure to be a hit, and according to a recent interview with HNHH, it’s not too far away. “Another tape, more videos,” Lakeyah said when asked about what’s up next. “I just hope to show my face more, too. I know we are in a pandemic but like, [I want to] be outside more. I really just been working. Like studio time, phone interviews have been my thing right now.”

Listen to Lakeyah’s new single and watch the accompanying music video below, and be sure to listen to In Due Time when it drops on April 9th.

Quotable Lyrics
Ayy, put that shit on, now all these bitches clockin’ me
I can’t stay away from Wafi, so they watchin’ me
Bitch say she ain’t a fan, but she gotta be
I just clicked her page, I don’t know her, but she follow me

Jay-Z Salutes New York For Finally Legalizing Marijuana

It’s a wonder to think it took this long for New York to legalize marijuana. The state is home to one of the biggest economies in America, which would help pour billions and billions into the marijuana industry. The state did finally make the big move recently, and one of the most iconic legends from the city that never sleeps showed how proud he was.

Jay-Z released a statement to address the legalization of marijuana in his state. “The news of cannabis legalization in New York is incredibly exciting. It represents a long-overdue opportunity for New Yorkers, for the cannabis industry, and for social equity and social justice,” stated Jay. “I’ve seen first- hand the harm inflicted for generations against Black and minority communities by the war on drugs right here in New York. Today, I’m proud to see my home state join The Parent Company in paving the way for a thriving and equitable cannabis market.”

New Yorkers over 21 can now possess and use up to 3 ounces of pot. Of course, smoking pot is banned anywhere that smoking a cigarette is. It is also banned on beaches, boardwalks, pedestrian plazas, parks, playgrounds, and of course you can’t smoke it in your car.

Jay’s cannabis brand MONOGRAM has been pushing for cannabis reform, and it looks like paid off. Salute!

LeBron James Gets The Meme Treatment After “Space Jam” Trailer Drops

LeBron James is the new star of the latest Space Jam movie. Fans have been anticipating this new title for quite some time now and on Saturday morning, the trailer for the movie finally came out. In this trailer, LeBron James can be seen entering a whole new universe where he is surrounded by some of the most iconic characters in the history of Warner Brothers Studios. This is where he is tasked with playing a game of basketball against the Goon Squad, all while teaming up with the Looney Tunes. The whole journey looks pretty epic, and you can see the trailer, below.

As one can imagine, there were some pretty memeable moments to be had here, and NBA Twitter made sure to do their thing. Perhaps the best part of the trailer is when LeBron tries to make a superteam with Gandalf, the Iron Giant, and Superman, which had many fans making Skip Bayless jokes about how MJ would never need a superteam to beat the Monstars. From there, we got to see Lola Bunny imitate D-Wade, and there were plenty of other dope moments, as well.

Overall, this movie might not be for everyone but the jokes that will come from it are pretty special.

Tom Brady Rookie Card Sells For Record $2.25

Tom Brady is breaking records, even in the off-season. According to ESPN, a Tom Brady rookie card was sold for a record $2.25 million this past Friday. A similar Brady rookie card sold in March for $1.32 million, and held the record until this one beat it out.

The card is a 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Rookie Ticket card, and is autographed by Brady. It carries the serial number #99 out of #100. The card was graded an 8.5 with the autograph graded at a 9. The card’s buyer remains anonymous. Fitbit CEO James Park was the buyer of the other rookie card back in February. His was graded at an 8 with a 10 for the autograph.

Previous to these two Brady rookie card records, a Patrick Mahomes signed card sold for $861,000 earlier this year. The Mahomes card is only one of five. However, right before that (in January), another Brady card sold for just over half a million dollars. Seems like real life; Brady keeps winning and Mahomes snuck a record in there as well.

The sports card industry has been blowing up over the last year or so, and these numbers prove it. The industry seemed to fizzle out a bit in the 2010s, however, it is back with a force.

Sylvan LaCue Heals His Inner Child On “Young Sylvan Ep. 2”

Florida rapper Sylvan LaCue had a traumatic upbringing in Miami, but he’s ready to put his demons to rest once and for all on Young Sylvan Ep. 2. While the first installment of his newest February EP saw him being a bit more intense and standoffish, Young Sylvan Ep. 2 embraces emotion and vulnerability for the purpose of healing. “Whereas YS1 was rapid and abrasive, YS2 slows things down just enough for the listener to pick up patterns and see exactly what this whole thing is about,” LaCue said.

On tracks like “Power Rangers,” which was LaCue’s favorite show growing up, he wants the world to know that he’s invincible, and he isn’t taking anyone’s disrespect. “There was a sense of invincibility every time I watched [Power Rangers],” LaCue said. “This song was made with that same sentiment of invincibility.”

Sylvan LaCue’s descriptive and poignant storytelling skills are a frontrunner on the EP, especially on “Bowser In The Sky,” the project’s closing track, “I’ve seen all the morals go out the window and betrayal cross as soon as I looked up / Shook so many hands and delivered so many deeds without asking because the universe is peeping.” LaCue’s steadily building fanbase is sure to explode with this release, as vulnerability is not a virtue taken lightly.

Tracklist:

1. Penal Code 182.5 (feat. Drakeo The Ruler)
2. Trauma
3. Power Rangers (feat. Orianthi)
4. Peter Pan (feat. Grandmaster Vic)
5. P S 2 (feat. Grandmaster Vic)
6. Bowser In The Sky

Don Toliver, Gunna & Lil Uzi Vert Spotted Filming Video With Cole Bennett

Internet Money has undeniably become one of the most coveted production collectives in hip hop. As a group, they’ve managed to earn dozens of Billboard Hot 100 entries and numerous RIAA Platinum and Gold certifications as well. The label also released their debut album B4 the Storm last summer, with guest vocals from Future, Trippie Redd, Juice Wrld, and more. Next up on their agenda, the collective has an upcoming star-studded single with Don Toliver, Gunna, and Lil Uzi Vert on the way, with the trio spotted shooting the visual with Cole Bennett

“Internet Money, Don Toliver, Gunna, and Lil Uzi Vert are shooting a video with Cole Bennett,” read the text over the exclusive shot from the music video set. Toliver, Gunna, and Uzi are seen rocking orange and camouflage printed clothing as dust dramatically engulfs the background. The preview of the track suggests Toliver once again was staffed with delivering a compelling hook.

Under the post announcing the forthcoming collaboration, the production collective commented, “Here we go again,” likely referring to previous collaborations with Don Toliver and Gunna.

Internet Money has previously collaborated with both Don Toliver and Gunna on the smash hit like “Lemonade.” Are you looking forward to the new single? Do you think it’ll be a hit or a miss?
