Majid Jordan Announces First Album Since 2017

Majid Jordan fans have been rewarded for their patience, as the Toronto-based r&b duo have officially announced their plans for a new album in 2021. The album will be their first release since 2017 when they dropped off The Space Between, a project that featured guest appearances from their OVO labelmates dvsn and PartyNextDoor.

On Friday, April 2nd, Majid Jordan appeared on OVO Sound Radio season 3’s third episode, premiering their first single “Waves Of Blue” at the tail end of the show. In the days that followed, the duo took to Twitter to provide a closer look at their future roadmap. “Hey everyone, it’s been a while we miss you,” states Majid scored by his partner’s soft piano stylings. “We’ve spent time listening, feeling, learning, and we’re ready to share our experiences with you.”

“The story begins with our new song ‘Waves Of Blue,'” continues the message. “It’s the song that takes us to the place that we all want to be — our wildest dreams. We’re working on finishing our next album, so stay tuned, and we’ll see you soon.” Though they didn’t provide a window as to when the upcoming project might be expected, a later tweet confirmed that lead single “Waves Of Blue” will be landing this Friday, April 9th. It will be their first official release since “Superstar” in 2019.

DMX Doesn’t Have COVID-19: Report

DMX reportedly remains on life support as the hip-hop community continues to pray for his recovery following a heart attack on Friday. The rapper has suffered from substance abuse issues for much of his life, openly discussing how he became addicted to drugs at a very young age. His heart attack was reportedly brought on by a drug overdose.

There has been a lot of misinformation circulating in the reporting of DMX’s health crisis, which the rapper’s own manager has spoken about. After advising that DMX had reportedly been taken off life support over the weekend, it was quickly revealed that that information was false, prompting his manager to take back the statement. On Tuesday evening, a report began circulating that DMX had been diagnosed with COVID-19. The exclusive information came from VladTV. That story has now been corrected from XXL, who issued the following statement on the rapper’s health.

“DMX does not have COVID-19, per an official source,” wrote the rap magazine on Twitter. “An update regarding his current condition will be coming later today.”

The rapper, whose real name is Earl Simmons, is reportedly undergoing a lot of tests on Wednesday to determine the extent of his brain function. The results of the tests will be vital for DMX’s family to make important decisions about his future.

Continue to pray for DMX. We will keep you updated as more information is released.

Spillage Village Unleashes An Impressive Posse Cut For The “Baptize Remix”

Last September, Spillage Village dropped off its debut studio album Spilligion, and roughly seven months later, the Hip-Hop and R&B collective — which consists of 6lack, JID, EARTHGANG, Mereba, and Hollywood JB — is back with an official remix to the album’s second single “Baptize.” Although Johnny Venus’ throaty hook is kept in tact on the remix, the new version of “Baptize” features a posse cut of artists outside of Spillage Village, including Deante’ Hitchcock, IDK, and Flatbush Zombies.

Spillage Village’s “Baptize Remix” arrives almost exactly a week after Deante’ Hitchcock’s last #NewAtlantaTuesdays freestyle, in which he delivered a scorching take on the collective’s popular single, so it makes sense that Hitchcock’s impeccable double entendre-filled verse is recycled for the official “Baptize” remix. The rising Atlanta artist’s verse kicks things off, and Spillage Village member Hollywood JB follows Hitchcock’s lead by delivering a more slowed-down and introspective verse. After Johnny Venus comes through with the song’s unforgettable hook, IDK snatches the reigns and fires off some impressive and energetic bars, and Flatbush Zombies members Erick The Architect and Zombie Juice close out the posse cut with a bang.

If Spillage Village releases a deluxe version of Spilligion, would you want “Baptize Remix” to make the cut?

Quotable Lyrics

Submerged, physical, came out the water spiritual, uh
Seen the light, blink twice, just seen a miracle, nah
They been waitin’ for this (Uh-huh), like Pop comin’ back
The seven day theory, they immortalize the wrong n*ggas
Man, it’s just scary

Kodak Black’s Reaction To IG Live Singer Goes Viral

Kodak Black is one of the funniest rappers without actually trying to be funny. At this point in his prolific career, the Florida-based rapper has gone viral on multiple occasions simply for being himself. His hilarious Instagram Live sessions have enthused fans for years, and yet another instance has been picking up attention due to Kodak’s reaction as an aspiring singer was sharing his soulful song.

A singer hopped into Kodak’s live stream and began showcasing his voice, and while Kodak was listening, the entire chat was clowning the man. Throughout the clip, the rapper listens on as he eats a snack, but it’s his friend beside him that is getting a lot of the attention. Yak’s friend was standing there with a blank stare on his face, appearing to be angry as hell at the man singing on the other line. He took a drag from his cigarette and gave more of a glimpse at his face, looking seriously disgusted at what he was hearing.

“Man watup with dude in the corner,” asked one commenter, pointing out Kodak’s friend’s behavior. It’s unclear how Kodak and his friend reacted once the man got finished with his song. For what it’s worth, Kodak didn’t look too disturbed during the video. His homie on the other hand…

Duckwrth Debuted New Music In His Groovy NPR Tiny Desk Concert

Back in August, LA-based singer Duckwrth leaned into his funk-forward sound though his anticipated debut album SuperGood, which saw a handful of soulful collaborations with the likes of Earthgang and Jean Deaux. Though its been less than a year since his full length LP, Duckwrth has already been hard at work on new music. Taking his tunes to an NPR Tiny Desk performance, Duckwrth premiered two new upbeat songs.

Backed by a full band and a pair of backup singers, Duckwrth kicked off the set with a rendition of his SuperGood track
“Kiss U Right Now.” He then moved into one of his unreleased song titled “Make U Go,” which he said was written “for the lovers and the freaks.” Next, Duckwrth delivered another new sultry tune, “Birthday Suit,” before closing out the performance with his debut album’s title track “Super Good.”

Ahead of his Tiny Desk concert, Duckwrth sat down with Uproxx to talk about his debut album SuperGood and how rhythm is central to his sound:

“I think that for me, it was proving to myself who I am and what sound I like the most for myself, what space I want to be in, and it’s something about soul and more specifically rhythm. Rhythm is my sh*t. When I perform, I don’t stop moving. Unless it’s just one of those moments I have to sit still, but further than that rhythm is my shit. So I think SuperGood solidified it for me. Like, “N****, this is you, so kick it here for a bit,” but I’m still going to play with different genres.”

Iggy Azalea Exposed The Thirsty DMs She Gets From Famous Followers On TikTok

It goes down in the DMs. Just weeks after Lil Nas X made a TikTok using a screenshot of his Instagram DMs to put Tekashi 69 on blast after Tekashi tried to troll Nas with homophobic jokes, another artist has adopted the format to take her own thirsty messengers to task.

Apparently, ever since she broke up with Playboi Carti, Iggy Azalea‘s inbox has been flooded with direct messages from famous followers shooting their shots. However, from the screenshots she uses in her TikTok video, in which she dances in the foreground while the screenshots appear behind her, plenty of these famous followers could use some game lessons.

@thenewclassic

ha ha ha as if!?!?! 🙃 stay outta my DMs uglies.

♬ Sip It – Iggy Azalea & Tyga

Among them are men who go way too graphic way too quickly, while others offer money for Iggy’s company. One takes a day’s worth of silence from the Australian rapper as license to start insulting her, and another simply obsessively repeats “I love you” over and over again. Take notes, gentlemen: These are all what not to do — not just to famous women, but to anyone online. There’s shooting your shot, then there’s lobbing the ball toward the gym from the parking lot and expecting it to fall in the hoop through the skylight. Just don’t do it.

Meanwhile, Iggy herself has been promoting a new single, “Sip It,” her second collaboration with Tyga after “Kream,” and has been on an anti-music industry campaign, claming she’s been blackballed. You can check out the new single here.

Demi Lovato Says She Was ‘Scared’ After Hearing About DMX’s Reported Overdose

It was reported a few days ago that DMX experienced a drug overdose. The latest reports indicate that he is still in the hospital. The rapper has received an outpouring of support from his musical peers since the news broke, and now Demi Lovato, who has been open about her own overdose, has shared her thoughts about the situation.

In an interview with TMZ, Lovato was asked if she was scared by the DMX news and she replied:

“Yeah, of course. Any time that I see somebody OD or even pass away that’s in the public eye, I immediately think, ‘That could have been you had you not been putting all this work in for the last couple years of your life.’ There are times where I’ve talked about feeling survivor’s guilt, because you do ask yourself, ‘Why am I still here? Why are others not?’ It’s a challenging thing to get over, but ultimately, I had to realize every day is a day that someone else doesn’t get, you know? Every day that I’m here on this Earth is a day that I need to be counting my blessings and just be appreciative and grateful for. It makes me want to live the best life I can possibly live, knowing that others didn’t get the same chance that I did.”

Ja Rule Is Selling An NFT Of A Viral Fyre Festival Cheese Sandwich Tweet

As NFT-mania maintains its vice grip on the public consciousness, early adopter Ja Rule continues to capitalize on the craze by once again returning to the scene of one of his biggest business failures: Fyre Festival. After selling a massive painting of the Fyre Festival logo as an NFT for over $120,000, the latest Fyre-related NFT to appear on his Flipkick platform is a viral tweet about the “gourmet” dinner provided to attendees, which turned out to be a sad cheese sandwhich.

The 2017 tweet was one of the wider world’s first indications of trouble in paradise, as influencer attendee Trevor DeHaas alerted his Twitter followers to the logistical shortcomings that would soon become a full-blown disaster and the subject of competing documentaries on Netflix and Hulu. DeHaas seems to have developed a sense of humor about the whole thing because he has partnered with Flipkick to sell the rights to the now infamous tweet. They’ve valued those rights at $80,000, which will go toward DeHaas’ medical expenses — he needs a kidney transplant and is currently on dialysis.

There’s precedent for selling tweets as NFTs, with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s first tweet going for $2.9 million, but it’s unclear just what happens once the non-fungible token trades digital hands. Plenty of investors are betting big that other rich folks will want to “own” a digital code that says they have the rights to a piece of artwork most people can just right-click/save as on their desktops. But at least the money in that case went to a good cause; Dorsey donated the money to GiveDirectly, which works with US families affected by COVID.

Meanwhile, Ja’s other big investment this year, into inflated GameStop stock, isn’t quite showing the payouts that enthusiastic investors promised when they made a run on the stock in January. Maybe this isn’t the guy to take your financial advice from, just a thought.

J.I.D. Laments The Agonizing Sample Clearance Process

It’s been nearly three years since J.I.D delivered his last studio album in DiCaprio 2, a project that featured guest appearances from J. Cole, Method Man, Joey Bada$$, 6LACK and more. Though several loosies and a strong presence on Revenge Of The Dreamers 3 (read about his involvement in Dreamville’s compilation album here) have dulled the wait, anticipation for his upcoming project stands at an all-time high.

Previously teased to be titled The Forever Story, a thematic callback to his 2017 debut album The Never Story, little is admittedly known about J.I.D’s next endeavor. Originally rumored to feature heavy involvement from No I.D, who was revealed to be working with the Atlanta rapper for a collaborative projectThe Forever Story has been kept relatively under wraps. In fact, much of what has been learned has been gleaned from J.I.D himself, who occasionally offers brief updates on his Twitter page.

Alas, a recent post from the lyricist doesn’t exactly bode well. “Been waiting almost 2 months for one sample to clear, this shit gotta change,” laments J.I.D, alluding to a holdup that doesn’t appear to be moving forward at a desirable pace. “If someone sample your song take the money and shut tf up it’s art, u put that shit out there.”

Of course, it’s not the first time an artist has seen their project delayed over sample clearance-related issues. Sometimes, entire songs are forced to be cut over an artist’s reticence to pull the trigger on allowing their music to be sampled. It has long been a provocative debate within the industry, and in this case, it’s abundantly clear on which side J.I.D stands. We can only hope that the process takes a turn for the better, as The Forever Story would be a most welcome addition to the 2021 release slate.
