Reporter Denies Mistaking Daniel Kaluuya For Leslie Odom Jr. At Oscars

A red carpet question by a journalist has caused her to unintentionally become the subject of ridicule. On Sunday (April 25), Daniel Kaluuya took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah, besting his fellow nominees including Sacha Baron Cohen, Paul Raci, Leslie Odom Jr., and his co-star, Lakeith Stanfield.

South African reporter and former Miss Universe Margaret Gardiner was one of several journalists in the Oscars press room, and she posed a puzzling question to Kaluuya after his win. “I was wondering what it meant for you to be directed by Regina, what this means for you at this time with the world in the state that it’s in?” She seemed to be referencing One Night in Miami, a film directed by Regina King that starred Leslie Odom Jr. It was also suggested that she may have been referencing Shaka King, director and co-writer of Judas and the Black Messiah.

In a video that has gone viral, Kaluyya is seen asking Gardiner to repeat herself. She posed the question again, this time without mentioning Regina King since, as we know, King wasn’t involved in Judas and the Black Messiah. Kaluuya graciously answers the question but once he finished, he gave someone off to the side a strange look.

Soon, Gardiner went viral and was mocked for not knowing the difference between Kaluuya and Odom Jr. She returned to social media to set the record straight, explaining what she meant to ask. “#DanielKaluuya I did not mistake you for Leslie Odom Jnr. I’m sorry if it seemed that way. I had wanted to ask about Regina King not being nominated as a director for One Night in Miami, and your win for Judas and the Black Messiah for the community at this time.”

“2. (cont) #DanielKaluuya There was a sound issue so I dropped the part about Regina King and restated my question. What does it mean for the community at this time. When I listed to the audio, I do understand, but there was no confusion.” Still, people didn’t let up because they felt as if her explanation wasn’t the truth and she didn’t apologize. Check out her tweets, along with a few reactions, below.

DJ Envy Debates With Dr. Umar After Calling Ma’Khia Bryant Shooting Justified

The Ma’Khia Bryant case once again became a controversial topic of conversation on The Breakfast Club. On Monday (April 26), the radio show kicked off the week with special guest Dr. Umar Johnson, a speaker and psychologist who works within the Black community, specifically with children with behavioral disorders.

We previously reported on DJ Envy are Charlamagne the God debating Ma’Khia’s case after the 16-year-old was shot dead by Columbus Ohio police officer Nicholas Reardon last week. Dr. Umar condemned the officer’s actions in a passionate delivery, but Envy stood his ground.

“I work in schools, Charlamagne,” said Dr. Umar. “I have seen lunchroom aids with no police training. No bulletproof vest. No knife-proof vest. No gun in the pocket. I have seen elderly Black women and elderly Black men take knives and other weapons out of the hands of students during lunchroom riots. You mean to tell me… a trained, armed police, with a bulletproof vest can’t get the knife outta the hand of a 16-year-old.”

“You have White males who are conducting mass murders all across this country. Every other week we’re getting a mass murder in America,” he continued. “Fully armed, fully violent, murderous White men are apprehended by the police without being shot and without losing their life. So, explain to me how a White man with a AK-47 can be taken without a police officer firing a bullet after he done murdered six, seven, eight people, but a 16-year-old with a butter knife cannot be apprehended without a bullet being shot. That is nonsense. They killed her because they knew they would get away with it.”

DJ Envy chimed in. “I’m not gon’ lie,” said Envy. “I must be a c*on ’cause I don’t agree with you on this one and I’mma tell you why.” Envy said that the White men “walking around” with weapons “should get shot immediately” without question. He then reiterated his position about Ma’Khia Bryant and agreed with Reardon’s response because he “doesn’t know friend or foe.” Dr. Umar didn’t let him off the hook.

Check out The Breakfast Club‘s interview with Dr. Umar in full below, but you can check out the conversation about Ma’Khia Bryant at the 41:35 mark.

Coi Leray Confirms City Girls “Big Purr” Remix As Beef With Rolling Ray Continues

As Coi Leray shuts the door on the beef with her father Benzino, another has swung wide open as the rapper continues to be at odds with Rolling Ray. We previously reported on the unlikely beef that began after Ray openly accused Leray of stealing his signature word-phrase-sound “Purrrr.” Leray recently released her single “Big Purr (Prrdd)” featuring Poo Shiesty, and immediately, Rolling Ray took issue.

He later released his own “Purr”-centered track titled “BigPurrr,” and Ray continues to call out the rising rap star. Meanwhile, Coi Leray caused fan base mayhem after she revealed that City Girls would appear on the remix of “Big Purr.”

“City Girls on Big Prrd would be a movie,” Leray tweeted. She joked, “Still waiting for Jt to send her verse back!! she to busy on them got damn boats drinking mimosas an sh*t.” City Girls have also had their past run-ins with Rolling Ray, as he’s come after them, as well, in addition to Ray’s vicious beef with Saucy Santana, Yung Miami’s best friend.

After Rolling Ray sent out another video targeting Leray, she tweeted what looks to be a final message to her foe. “Rolling ray. You will never prosper in life if you forever have that hate in your heart. Look Lil purr, stop taking your frustration out on others ! We don’t want to be miserable with you! Please stop ! God Bless !”

She added, “And that’s on PERIOD.” Check it all out below.
