Pop Smoke Was Allegedly Killed By A 15-Year-Old During A Fight Over A Rolex Watch

This past February marked one year since the hip-hop world was shocked by the news of Pop Smoke’s shooting death. The Brooklyn-born rapper was killed during a home invasion at a Hollywood Hills mansion he was renting at the time. Following an investigation, four suspects were taken into custody last July and each charged with one count of murder and robbery in juvenile court as they were all under the age of 21 at the time of their arrest.

Now, according to the New York Daily News, we now know which of the suspects was responsible with shooting. During a preliminary hearing for 20-year-old Corey Walker, the only adult in the case, LAPD Det. Carlos Camacho testified that Pop Smoke was killed by a 15-year-old teen.

“He admitted that he shot the victim three times with a Baretta 9 [mm.],” Camacho said. The detective also revealed that the group of suspects broke into the rapper’s mansion in hopes of stealing his Cuban link chain but only managed to get away with a diamond-studded Rolex watch, which they later sold for $2,000.

Camacho added that during a recorded jail interview, the 15-year-old “admitted that they asked for the jewelry” before engaging in “a confrontation” with the rapper during the home invasion. “They got into a fight, and he shot him three times,” Camacho said. “He said he shot him on the back.” The detective also said Pop Smoke fought back and “rushed” the suspects who “pistol-whipped” him before shooting him in the chest.

Rah Swish Comes Through With “Woo It Again”

Brooklyn is still on the rise. The drill scene has gotten a bit oversaturated in the past year, especially with Pop Smoke’s passing. However, there’s still a slew of artists that are bringing their stories to the world. Take Rah Swish, for example. He’s been carving out his own lane in the drill scene to his own success and each track feels like he’s exploring beyond the regional sound that he entered with.

This week, the rapper returned with his latest offering, “Woo It Again.” The rapper takes on grungy, guitar-heavy production as he heavily reps the BK. “Feelin’ like I’m Jigga/ New Yankee fitted,” he raps on the track.

Peep the latest from Rah Swish below and keep your eyes peeled for his next album.

Dave Chappelle Explains How He Got The Rights To “Chappelle’s Show” Back

At one point in the earlier part of the millennium, Dave Chappelle was the most commercially successful and recognizable comedian in the country. Numerous circumstances pushed Chappelle to retreat from the limelight and the world of comedy. Luckily for fans of the well-renowned funnyman, he made a full return to the limelight by 2016, scoring a coveted $20 million-per-release special deal with Netflix, releasing a total of five thus far with the streaming giant.

On a recent appearance on Joe Rogan’s The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the acclaimed comedian dished about what inspired his return to stand-up comedy as well as the situation behind his classic comedy sketch series Chappelle’s Show. At the tail end of 2020, Netflix removed the series from their platform after Chappelle reported he did not receive a dime of royalties and requested fan’s not to tune in.

“You’re the first guy to beat the system. You’re the first guy to get f*cked over by the system, go public with it and then get your money,” points out Rogan to Chappelle while on the podcast.

This then launched Chappelle into explaining exactly how he was able to regain the rights to his short-lived but wildly popular Comedy Central series Chappelle’s Show. He credited public opinion for helping him regain the rights rather than the court system while adding he was less bitter towards Viacom and Comedy Central as he matured.

“It wasn’t a court of law,” Chappelle said. “I don’t believe I would have got anything in a court of law. I think, in the court of public opinion, it was a good time for me to say my piece and through the years it wasn’t something I would harp on…It was something I was actually reluctant to talk about.”

Pooh Shiesty Fans Find Old Video Of Rapper Wearing Sister’s Wig

The new generation of rappers emerging probably don’t recall the days of dial-up internet. Many of them grew up with social media apps at their fingertips, meaning that their past isn’t too far to trace. Look at Jack Harlow, for example. He’s arguably one of the hottest new artists this year following the success of 2020s That’s What They All Say but many fans watched him get it from the ground up. Even old footage of Harlow rapping as a child emerged, only to become Kendrick Lamar’s first liked tweet in over a year.

It appears that Pooh Shiesty is the latest victim of throwback footage coming to light. However, the latest footage actually proves he hasn’t changed all that much. The rapper’s seen smoking a blunt while his sister asks that he passes her wig. “This how you hit a n***a block,” he says with the wig on his head and a blunt in his hand. The rapper keeps going until his mother demands that he stops joking around. “He look nice, though,” his mom says before he rips the wig off his head with a face of disgust, replying, “Nah see.”

In related news, Kodak Black and Pooh Shiesty finally squashed their beef in Miami and released their new collaboration, “Rip Stick” alongside Syko Bob.

Check out some of the best reactions to the Pooh Shiesty video below.

Meek Mill’s REFORM Alliance Applauds Scores Another Probation Reform Win

Meek Mill, Jay-Z, and Michael Rubin united to form the REFORM Alliance. The trio linked up to fight for criminal justice reform throughout the United States, each motivated by their own personal relationships to the justice system in the United States. The REFORM Alliance has already scored major wins for criminal justice reform in states like Virginia, where they helped alter the archaic probation laws.

The most recent W for the criminal justice organization the passing of SB 105 in Georgia, which eases up the state’s probation system. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed the legislation into law earlier this week in the state after passing by a 169-2 overwhelming majority vote amongst legislature. REFORM Alliance was one of many nonprofits that advocated for the passing of the bill.

Thank you to @GovKemp and our coalition partners for helping us GIVE LIFE BACK to thousands of Georgians this week!” wrote the organization on social media before tagging other nonprofits involved in helping pass the bill.

“This is a momentous victory for the citizens of Georgia, considering that their state has more people on probation than any other in the country,” Meek and Rubin said in a press release regarding the bill. “We applaud the legislature’s commitment to addressing this matter and we’re thrilled that it will enable thousands of Georgians to leave probation and re-enter society in a safe and productive manner. We are proud of the role that the REFORM Alliance played in championing these important changes.”

According to stats from the organization, 1 in every 48 Georgians are currently under community supervision with around 40% of those residents serving decade-plus probation sentences. The reformed law will create a pathway for early termination of felony probation after three years should they meet certain requirements.

“SB 105 is a bipartisan, evidence-based reform that will safely reduce the prison population, save taxpayer dollars and allow resources to be redirected towards true public safety priorities,” said REFORM Alliance CEO Robert Rooks. “It is a sensible and essential step toward ensuring a probation system that gives Georgians a meaningful second chance and an opportunity for real redemption.”

Swizz Beatz Explained The Frustrations He Let Out During His Speech At DMX’s Memorial Service

It’s been a month since DMX tragically died following a heart attack that resulted from a reported drug overdose. His passing left many close family members, friends, and fans to grieve at the unexpected loss. One of those was Swizz Beatz, who shared a passionate speech at the late rapper’s memorial service last month. Swizz had some harsh words for those who failed to check on DMX before his death, despite claiming to be close to him. During a recent interview with Angie Martinez, he explained what inspired the speech and why he felt it was necessary to deliver it at the service.

“From the fans’ standpoint, X got a lot of love. It’s just the other love he was looking for I don’t think he got a lot of,” Swizz said. “And that’s what made me want to say what I said at his homegoing because I was dealing with a lot of that.” He added, “I was with X a lot. Especially, recently. So I was very current in his life and understanding where he was at and what he was going through. So when I started seeing things, naturally as his brother, it just bothered me.” He also said he had no regrets for the speech and would do it all over again if he had to.

Swizz also spoke about DMX’s upcoming album, which he called a “well-deserved masterpiece.” “X was really in a good mood after doing Verzuz,” he said. “He really got excited because he was able to see the love that the youth had for him and the energy that Snoop gave him…We didn’t leave L.A. We stayed there and finished the album at Snoop’s studio like from Verzuz. That energy bottled, bottled up and we just stayed on it. X was just saying that ‘I just wanna get some new music out so I can contribute to this new energy that I’m feeling.’” He continued, “He was going to get back in the best shape that we’ve ever seen him in a long time physically as well.”
