“Wedding Crashers” Sequel Officially Has A Script, One Step Closer To Reality: Report

Wedding Crashers, starring Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn and quickly became a cult classic– that is, after it already grossed a mild $300 million internationally when it first hit theatres back in 2005. The film still gets referenced to this day, almost two decades later. A sequel to the iconic film has been rumored for some time now, in fact, we have some reports that go as far back as 2016, and as recently as 2020. However, right now it’s the closest it’s ever been to actually become a reality.

Last week Production Weekly (via @Jasonosia) posted a screengrab of a listing that states David Dobkin, the director of the original Wedding Crashers, has been brought on, with a script written by Evan Susser, Van Robichaux, and Rob McKittrick, and that production is projected to start in August, in Puerto Rico. The listing also states the film will be produced for HBO Max.

However, New Line Cinema has not green-lit the project yet, and there reportedly aren’t any actual contracts signed with the actors mentioned above. It is reported that Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are in talks to reprise their roles, however, Rachel McAdams and Isla Fisher likely won’t be locked until both Vaughn and Wilson are a done deal, and that obviously will not be a cheap task. That being said, we’re still excited to hear about the possibility of a sequel happening, and we’ll be  curious as to how the story will play out. Stay tuned.

Freddie Gibbs Acting Debut To Premiere At Cannes Film Festival

2021 has been the biggest year of Freddie Gibbs’s career so far. Coming off of the success of Alfredo that earned him and The Alchemist a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album, the Gary, IN native has been steadily teasing the release of his forthcoming album, SSS. Though no release date has been set, it appears that he has even bigger plans outside of music this year.

Gangsta Gibbs revealed that he would be making his acting debut in the upcoming film Down With The Kingdirected by Diego Ongaro. The rapper takes on the leading role of Money Merc, a rapper seeking to make his departure from the music industry. Merc is sent to the Berkshires to record his next album when he forms a bond with a neighbor who leads him towards farming.

Down With The King will be making its world premiere later at this year’s Cannes Film Festival as part of the ACID (Association For Independent Cinema and its Distribution) section.

“Freddie Gibbs and I worked intimately together to craft Mercury’s character and backstory; some of it pulled from Freddie’s experiences and values, much of it invented,” Ongaro told Complex earlier this year. “It was an absolute thrill working with someone as sharp and multi-talented as Freddie in this collaborative way.”

We’ll keep you posted on more details surrounding Down With The King. Cannes Film Festival takes place from July 6th to 17th.

Khloe Kardashian Sends Kanye West Birthday Wishes Amid Divorce Drama

Television and media personality Kim Kardashian and rapper-mogul Kanye West are in the midst of a dramatic divorce. Regardless, Khloe Kardashian sent her soon-to-be ex-brother-in-law well wishes for his 44th birthday on June 8th. Based on the post, it looks like the divorce has not severed the bond between West and the Kardashian family member, as she refers to him as her “brother for life.”

The Revenge Body star’s post included a throwback picture of herself along, with her older sister Kim, Kanye, and former partner Tristan Thompson, enjoying a day in the ocean. The reality TV star captioned the post: “Happy birthday to my brother for life!!! Have the best birthday Ye! Sending you love and endless blessings!!”

Kim Kardashian shared the news of her divorce from the “Fade” rapper on a June 3rd episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. While telling Khloe about her marital woes, the pop culture icon disclosed that she “felt like a failure.” The series finale of Keeping Up With The Kardashian will air on Thursday, June 10th.

Kim Kardashian originally filed for divorce from West earlier this year, on February 19

Blast Radio, A New Creator-Based Audio App, Launches To Deliver Limited-Time Audio Experiences

An app that aims to bring fans inside the creative process is now available. Blast Radio — or simply Blast — is an audio-based app where artists of all kinds can broadcast whatever they like, whenever they like, for a more intimate fan experience. The goal is to provide an outlet for artists to share the music, sessions — and potentially behind-the-scenes content — that they wouldn’t necessarily record or publish otherwise.

“Over the last 15 years, I noticed that reality has no place on visual social media platforms,” said Yousef Ali, Blast’s Founder and CEO. “People have been reduced to doctored selfies and public displays of perfection. This is especially challenging for musicians where sound is their secret weapon. Blast gives artists an easy way to reach fans with their actual talents and to do so in an environment that’s not meant to be curated and perfect. It’s a space for artists, to be heard, and to highlight their work, not their appearance.”

The element of spontaneity is reinforced by a built-in time limit: Blast broadcasts are only accessible for 24 hours. Recordings are made using a small attachment called a Blast Box that attaches to the artist’s audio equipment through an RCA wire. The Blast Box (which can be pre-ordered now) pairs the artist’s device with their Blast Radio profile through Bluetooth. The artist can then manually press “publish” to upload the broadcast onto the Blast app.

Blast users get notifications when any artists that they follow have new broadcasts. They may then listen in real-time, or check out the broadcast for the next 24 hours, as well as comment, share the broadcasts, and give a “like” (Blast calls them “Vibes.”)

Right now, more than 150 musicians are posting performances, weekly radio programs, album release previews, and live broadcasts from venues on the app. Some of these early adopters include Ghostly International founder Matthew Dear, Grammy-nominated composer and Detroit DJ Carl Craig, artist and owner of Klakson and Dolly imprint Steffi, Brooklyn-based DJ and producer The Juan MacLean, and acclaimed chamber orchestra Alarm Will Sound.

“I’m always searching for ways to connect with fans. Whether I’m jamming in the studio or playing a DJ set, I need an effortless way to broadcast my music, instantly. Blast has now made that process extremely simple. I just did my first broadcast from Detroit and listened back to the set afterward. I can’t wait to share more live music soon,” said avant-pop artist Matthew Dear.

Detroit producer Carl Craig added: “Performing live at shows is great, but there’s a ton of music that I love that I can’t play because there’s just too much to share on one tour. On Blast, I can broadcast what I care about right now, and do so in an environment built for high-resolution audio — where it sounds great, isn’t restricted by low-res algorithms, and isn’t competing against a world of curated selfies and cat videos.”

Artists can pre-order a Blast Box here and listeners can download the Blast App in the App Store or the Google Play Store.

Dreamville Brings A Mini-Festival To Red Rocks Amphitheatre In Colorado

Although the pandemic forced the cancelation of numerous concerts, festivals, and tours, as live entertainment returns, fans who missed out on last year’s festivities are getting some consolation. One of the festivals that was canceled, the Dreamville Festival, is sort of coming back in a smaller capacity as Dreamville On The Rocks, a one-day mini-fest featuring nearly the entire roster at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado. The label’s social accounts posted a motion flyer providing the details and revealing the lineup and date: October 23, 2021.

Although team captain J. Cole is notably absent — perhaps he’ll be participating in some NBA team’s fall training camp, hoping to continue his professional basketball career — all of the label’s other roster mainstays are accounted for. Ari Lennox, Bas, Cozz, Earthgang, JID, Lute, and Omen are all listed, which could also be a good sign for expected releases from each after a year of relative inactivity (although Earthgang and JID both participated in the Spillage Village album Spilligion in 2020).

Dreamville On The Rocks doesn’t appear to be as big of an event as the original Dreamville Festival was planned to be with no announced guests from outside the label and only one day, but perhaps the crew is using it as a dry-run to shake off the rust before announcing a larger event down the line. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 am. You can find more information at Dreamville.com.

Ice-T Hilariously Claps Back At Acting Criticism

Ice-T has always been incredibly proud of his now 21-year run as Detective Odafin Tutuola on NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and he’s never hesitated to defend it. Most notably, he’s stepped in to condemn former Presidents for misappropriating the name and advocated for black empowerment and black stories on the show. Fans know not to get in between the actor and his show, but one critic made that embarrassing mistake this week. After the critic, journalist Lauren Wolfe, tweeted: “how is it that Ice-T never gets any better on SVU?”, the actor quickly delivered a flaming response with “how is it that your **** smells worst every day?”

Ice-T has a history of beefing over the internet, though usually with higher-profile people on the other side. Of the few to name, the actor’s beef with Soulja Boy became pretty volatile as well as fellow rapper/actor LL Cool J. However, it’s clear that his stint at Law & Order is something he’s proud of and won’t let any haters get in his way.

Ice-T has been nominated for four Image awards for his role in Law & Order and won once for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Role”. The 22nd season of the show premiered in November and the show has been cleared for another two seasons post-season finale.

Though the tweets have been deleted, you can check them out down below. Do you think Ice-T deserves credit for his acting?

Kid Cudi Confesses: “Sadness Eats Away At Me Sometimes”

Kid Cudi has been incredibly vocal in the past about his longtime battle with anxiety and depression. Explaining that he “turns his pain into music,” a titular reason as to why his music has been so well-received by audiences who can–and even those who can’t, relate to its subject matter.

“I knew I deserved peace and to be happy, but I didn’t know how,” he’s said in the past, checking into rehab to deal with his mental health. His vulnerability is surely an inspiration to many fans who look to him for ways to deal with similar bouts of sadness they experience themselves. On Tuesday (June 8), the rapper took to Instagram to open up about his mental health and his coping strategies.

“Sadness eats away at me sometimes,” he writes. “How do I deal? A lot of u hit me and ask how I get through. Truthfully, idk. Some days are great, others not so great. I just try to believe God has something better for me. I try to have faith in the light. Please, believe.” In the caption of the text post, he added, “God has better days waitin for me. I just know it.”

The Man On The Moon III: The Chosen artist first told fans about his struggles with mental illness in a Facebook letter shared in 2016. In the letter, he confessed to fans that he was checking himself into rehab to deal with his depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts.

He told fans at the time that, “anxiety and depression have ruled my life for as long as I can remember and I never leave the house because of it… I dont trust anyone because of it and Im tired of being held back in my life. I deserve to have peace. I deserve to be happy and smiling.”

After rehab, Cudi spoke about finding peace in a Billboard 2018 cover story. “I have so much joy that I don’t feel like I’m fighting anymore,” the artist said. “It was this year, around my birthday [in late January]. I’m the best I’ve ever been in my life. I realized I was genuinely happy, and there’s nothing really going on in particular.”

“Creating is making me happy again,” he added.

Megan Thee Stallion, Playboi Carti & Pooh Shiesty Set For BUKU: Planet B

Festival season is on pace to be in motion by the time July comes around. While certain states have already allowed for full-fled festivals to take place, some of the biggest outdoor events have remained cautious of the re-opening. Coachella, for instance, is returning for 2022 while Jay-Z’s Made In America is scheduled to return during Labor Day weekend.

Buku Music + Art Project typically takes place in March but, they’ve made room for a one-off fall event in the wake of the decline in COVID-19 cases and the rise of vaccinations. Buku Music + Art Project‘s BUKU: Planet B takes place Oct. 22nd & 23rd in New Orleans. Described as “purposefully boutique in size,” the festival line-up taps some of the biggest names in all genres for its return. Megan Thee Stallion, Playboi Carti, Pooh Shiesty, Flo Milli, Machine Gun Kelly, and EarthGang are among the 50 acts scheduled to perform.

“For the past year, we’ve watched our fans step outside of their comfort zones and persevere through weird times,” said Dante DiPasquale, BUKU’s co-creator.  “PLANET B is the result of us being inspired by them to do the same, and all of us at Team BUKU are excited to finally party with them again.”

Check out the full festival line-up below. Are you excited for the triumphant return of festival season this year? Let us know in the comments.
