Brooklyn Drill Rapper Supa Gates Dead At 25

Brooklyn Drill rapper Supa Gates, real name Aaron Williams, has passed away at the age of 25. New York Daily News reports that Williams was shot on April 11th, and spent the next six weeks in the Kings County Hospital before succumbing to his injuries received in the shooting. His death was confirmed to have occurred on Thursday, May 27th.

The original shooting occurred on St. John’s place near Troy Avenue in Crown Heights. The Brooklyn rapper was sitting in the passenger’s seat of his Mercedes when he was shot multiple times. At this time, police have not made any arrests, with the report noting that they have yet to confirm any leads or suspects. Motivations for the shooting also remain unclear, though his mother believes that jealousy played a role.

“It really and truly was jealously,” says his mother Raquel Peters, as reported by the New York Daily News. “It wasn’t a gang-related issue, it wasn’t a drug-related issue. Nobody knows how hard I worked to make sure my kids are OK. People don’t know the devastation they’re causing, and how many lives they’re destroying when they take somebody’s child.”

The report also suggests that Supa Gates was on the cusp of taking his career to the next level, quoting a family member who claimed that the rapper was ready to sign with a major label and embark on a tour. It should be noted that his music was certainly making waves, with his “Yellow Bentley” song having scored rotation on Drake’s OVO Sound Radio.

Rest in peace to Supa Gates. Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and fans in this difficult time.

Rich Paul Discusses Racial Bias Amongst White American Athletes

Rich Paul is one of the best agents in the entire NBA and his client list is beyond impressive. Klutch Sports has grown into one of the biggest entities in the sports agency world and fans have certainly taken notice. Over the years, there have been rumors concerning Klutch’s influence over the sport, although Paul has made sure to note that he does everything the right way, and that he is simply looking into the best interests of his clients.

Despite being one of the most well-known agents out there, Paul has noted that there have been issues trying to attract white clients. Paul claims that white American athletes have a bit of a bias when it comes to who represents them. As it stands, Paul has one white client in Jusuf Nurkic, although as Paul noted, Nurkic is European and simply has a different mindset.

“It’s very difficult for me to represent a white player,” Paul said. “It just is. Look around. There’s very few. I represent a player from Bosnia. But, again, he’s international. He looks at it different.” Paul then went on to say that some players just don’t want a black agent, even though they would never actually allude to that kind of bias. “They’ll never say that,” he said. “But they don’t. I think there’s always going to be that cloud over America.”

American sports have suffered from diversity issues when it comes to both team executives and agents over the years. While Paul is a case of someone who has been able to overcome and be successful, there is no denying that biases still exist and that it could take quite sometime before attitudes change.

Lil Baby And Lil Durk Reflect On Their Journeys To Prosperity On ‘Voice Of The Heroes’

Last week was supposed to bring a new joint project from Lil Baby and Lil Durk, Voice Of The Heroes. Instead, the release was pushed back, and for good reason: The rappers decided to delay the album out of respect for DMX and his posthumous album Exodus, which was released last week. Now, the project is set for release this Friday, and ahead of them, the duo has shared the title track and a video for it.

On the track, the rappers tell stories about their paths to the top of the rap world and how they’ve become role models. For example, Durk expresses the importance of looking out for those close to you, rapping, “Take care of your family and them kids, ’cause I’m too big on family / F*ck them fast cars, before that shawty ‘nem gon’ slide in Camrys.” Elsewhere, Baby raps about leading by example: “I showed all my n****s in the trenches it’s a better life / Never get too big for me to listen, I’ll take your advice.”

Lil Baby previously said of the album, “We coming. Me and Durk dropping an album, fa sho. When it comes to that street sh*t, the streets is like, we the voices and the heroes of this sh*t. You know what I’m saying? Kids look at us like heroes. I know they look at me like one and [Lil] Durk, too. That n**** been holding it down for a minute.”

Lil Uzi Vert & JT Go On A Double Date With Future & Dess Dior

Love was in the air this weekend in Miami, Florida with two of the most high-profile hip-hop couples stepping out together for a double date. Lil Uzi Vert and JT were spotted taking pictures with Future and Dess Dior, seemingly enjoying time together at LIV Nightclub.

Photographer Robert Diaz posted pictures from the event, showing the link-up between both couples. Lil Uzi and Future have historically been great friends, so it’s not too surprising to see them going on double dates together. In the pictures, Future and Dess rock sunglasses and embrace one another. Lil Uzi and JT were also wearing shades, showing more affection than the other couple and leaning in for a kiss.

Fans have been joking about the photos, commenting, “The talls and the smalls.” Dess Dior and Future are both towering over Lil Uzi and JT. Recently, a magazine cover featuring the couple got trolled because of their short statures

It’s been a busy few months for both couples in the media. Lil Uzi and JT continue to be one of hip-hop’s favorite couples. Future and Dess Dior are still going strong too, even after Future dissed his ex-girlfriend on 42 Dugg’s song “Maybach.” In a leaked version of his verse, the rapper attacked Lori Harvey, her father Steve, and her boyfriend Michael B. Jordan. Read more about that here.

Take a look at the couples on a double date below.

Jeezy Flexes 10 Years Of “The Real Is Back”

Jeezy’s mixtape catalog has reached legendary status, and the trap music innovator recently took a moment to flex an important milestone. Yesterday, Jeezy celebrate the ten-year anniversary of his classic The Real Is Backhis tenth mixtape and one that found him reuniting with his longtime collaborator DJ Drama. In addition to Drama, the project featured guest appearances from Lil Wayne, Fabolous, Freddie Gibbs, 2 Chainz, and many more.

Having officially been out and resonating for a decade now, Jeezy whipped up a quick tribute to the post on his IG page, highlighting the album cover in the process. “10 years ago today me a @djdrama created a classic,” he captions, sparking a wave of nostalgic comments and reflections from his followers — at least, those who aren’t sexually charged Instagram bots. Suffice it to say, there are plenty who still appreciate The Real Is Back, to the point where it might be viewed among the most important chapters in Jeezy’s mixtape discography.

While not entirely related, the ten-year anniversary of The Real Is Back arrives after DJ Drama opened up about his history working with Jeezy in an interview with Atlanta radio station Hot 107.9. As he told it, Jeezy was the first rapper to ever pay him for a mixtape, which happened to be Streets Iz Watching. Clearly, the decision to commit to one another’s creativity proved fruitful for both parties, as here we are, still celebrating one of their many classics to this day.

Rich Paul Claps Back At Critics Who Claim LeBron Owns Part Of Klutch Sports

Rich Paul is one of the most well-known agents in all of sports media and as it stands, Klutch Sports is the most relevant sports agency in the NBA world. For years, there have been rumors and reports that LeBron James actually owns a portion of the business and that Paul is helping to bring free agents to Los Angeles, as a result.

In a recent piece done by the New Yorker, Rich Paul puts these rumors on blast as he is simply tired of hearing about how LeBron may or may not be helping him. In fact, Paul believes some people just want to diminish his success.

“So why is it that LeBron has to own Rich Paul’s business?” Paul asked. “Let me tell you what that’s about. That’s all putting things in the atmosphere to discourage, right? That’s all they want to do.”

One of Paul’s advisors, Adam Mendelsohn, commented on the rumor noting that it’s very clearly stated in the league rules that LeBron couldn’t have ownership in Klutch, even if he he wanted it. “LeBron does not and cannot have any ownership in Klutch. He refers to Klutch as ‘us’ because Klutch is his family. It’s a dumb rumor, and while it doesn’t bother Rich I don’t think anyone paying attention is confused about why his detractors say it,” Mendelsohn said.

Needless to say, Paul is self-made and he wants to make sure everyone knows it. Everyone loves to give LeBron credit, although it’s important to acknowledge that Paul has built a massive business over the years and he is certainly one of the league’s most influential people.

Lil Yachty Asked Drake To Help Him With Nicki Minaj Beef

Atlanta rapper Lil Yachty was a big fan of Nicki Minaj when he was growing up. However, when the time came for him to pick a side between the legendary rapper and her arch-nemesis, his labelmate Cardi B, he chose to be loyal to his Quality Control family. At the height of the catty feud between Nicki and Cardi, Lil Yachty took a stance and claimed that he would not collaborate with Nicki Minaj ever again. Last week, he seemingly tried to backpedal his previous comments, apologizing to Nicki and her fanbase and revealing that the rapper still has him blocked on social media.

During a subsequent interview with TMZ Live, Lil Boat admitted that he’s tried different methods of getting back on the Queen’s good side. He even tried to get his “Oprah’s Bank Account” collaborator Drake to make things right between him and the Young Money rapper.

“It’s the Barbz, man. They’re still killing me,” joked Lil Yachty during the video. “I woke up yesterday to a heated fire under my butt from the Barbz. The thing about that was, I think I’m just big on loyalty. I got a lot of love for Cardi B and she’s damn near a family member. Through whatever, I’m gon’ ride. I’ve loved Nicki Minaj since I was a child. [Last week] I went on Twitter and started retweeting my tweets from middle school of me praising Nicki and then I went on Instagram Live to let the world know that Nicki Minaj has me blocked. I even hit Drake, like, ‘Yo Drake, tell Nicki I love her. I love her to death.’ I checked this morning and I’m still blocked. I don’t think it’s working. I think she’s standing on a strong foot but my love for Nicki and Cardi is forever. I love everybody!”

Do you think Nicki Minaj will ever forgive Lil Yachty? Watch the video below to hear Yachty discuss the beef.
