Nipsey Hussle’s “Victory Lap” Celebrates 100th Week On The Billboard 200

After a little over two years, The Hip-Hop community still mourns the death of Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Asghedom. Nipsey was tragically shot and killed in front of his Marathon Clothing store on March 31, 2019, but his legacy has continued to live on.

In June, Nipsey Hussle was among dozens of entertainers featured in the Class of 2022 Walk of Fame Honorees, and soon his name will be added to the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame. Weeks later, another posthumous accolade has now been added to the fallen rapper’s legacy.

According to HipHopDXNipsey’s debut album Victory Lap has officially re-entered the Billboard 200 this week at the 139th position, making it the album’s 100th week spent on Billboard’s top-selling albums chart.

“Nipsey Hussle’s ‘Victory Lap‘ re-enters this week’s Billboard 200,” Chart Data recently revealed. “It has now spent a milestone 100 weeks on the chart.”

Victory Lap previously peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 in 2019 following Nipsey Hussle’s passing, and although it never quite hit the pinnacle of the chart, Nip’s debut album was certified platinum by the RIAA in 2020.

Rest in peace, Nipsey Hussle! The marathon continues.

Lil Uzi Vert & NGeeYL Are Far From Basic On New Single “Off-White”

Lil Uzi Vert is one of the most established rappers in the music industry but he always makes it a point to elevate up-and-coming artists by extending his co-sign through a feature verse. He helped out Popp Hunna by blessing the viral rapper with a couple of features (before dissing him online) and most recently, he popped up on the remix of country singer Kidd G’s song “Teenage Dream 2.” It’s not uncommon to see Uzi help lesser-known artists out that he believes in and he’s doing exactly that on his latest record “Off-White” with NGeeYL.

South Carolina rapper NGeeYL has been on the rise since the release of his mixtape Live Ammo last year and he’s officially returned with his new release “Off-White” featuring Lil Uzi Vert. Fans have been waiting for this song since earlier this year when Uzi debuted his multi-million-dollar forehead diamond. This single marks the first release from NGeeYL’s forthcoming album, which will be executive produced by Lil Uzi.

Listen to the new record below and let us know what you think.

Quotable Lyrics:

Come my way, we like to shoot sticks and we efficient
I’m out of shape but I like to run around with killers
Y’all like to drop diss songs, we like to drop n***as
Y’all lil’ n***as lil’ boys, but we done got bigger

Lil Nas X Says Ripping His Pants On ‘SNL’ Wasn’t Even The Worst Thing That Happened To Him That Day

Lil Nas X had one of the most memorable music moments of Saturday Night Live‘s most recent season when he accidentally tore his pants during his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” performance. While having that sort of gaffe on live national television might be embarrassing, as is noted in a new New York Times profile on Nas, his torn trousers “weren’t even the worst thing to happen to him that night.”

After the performance, Nas was feeling good, so while at the show’s after-party, he shot his shot with somebody he had been chatting with online. The rapper’s advances were shot down, though, as the person said they were flattered but had a boyfriend.

“I was like, ‘Damn, you’re that loyal,’” Nas said. “I love it. You forget sometimes that people are, like, really loyal, and it’s like, I want to do that.” The rejection was still hard to stomach though, but Nas reminded himself that “no matter what I do or accomplish in this life or whatever, I’m never going to get everything I want.”

Nas left the party to return to his hotel room and get a hold of himself. Once he got there, he gave himself a pep talk in the mirror and then fell asleep on the toilet.

Morray Reveals His Dream Collaborations

Morray is a rare type of artist, in that he appears to have it all figured out in the early stages of his career. That’s not to suggest that the North Carolina melodist has already plateaued. Simply to acknowledge the groundwork that Morray and his Pick Six team put in prior to inking an Interscope deal

With his warm-up mixtape Street Sermon having dropped earlier this summer — earning acclaim from fans and critics alike — many have been eager to see where Morray goes on his upcoming debut album. As it happens, he recently chopped it up with HHNM, providing a bit of insight into what can be expected.

First, he discusses some of his dream collaborations, revealing that the one artist he’d place at the top of the priority list is no longer alive. “My dream collab can’t happen right now as he’s no longer with us but my dream collab would definitely be MO3,” he tells the publication. “I was in Dallas yesterday. Seeing all the love he gets, it’s crazy. I would have loved to do a song with M03.”

“I already did a song with J. Cole so that’s crazy,” he continues, a reference to his recent Off-Season inclusion “My Life.” Cordae would be a good vibe, I love the way he raps and love how smart he is. People take his brain for granted. Also, Migos would be fire. Young Thug. I ain’t gonna lie, I wanna do a song with everybody. I can’t choose — I wanna do a song with everybody, no cap.”

While it’s unclear as to whether or not any of these dream collabs will make Morray’s debut, one must not underestimate the power of the Interscope machine. And to be honest, given the sheer volume of songs Morray has cooked up, whoever he wants to work with will have ample material to choose from. “I’m just recording,” he confirms. “I got over 125 songs for the album that I’ma have to go through and search through. It’s a work in progress. I’m a perfectionist.”

For much more from Morray, be sure to check out his full interview with HHNM right here. In addition, peep our own conversation with Morray right here. Look for the multitalented rapper to hit the road alongside J. Cole and 21 Savage for the upcoming Off-Season tour.

Soulja Boy Has A Billion Dollar Idea For McDonald’s

In the last year, we’ve seen McDonald’s up their marketing game through collaborative campaigns with rapper Travis Scott, K-pop group BTS, international sensation J Balvin, and more. Could Soulja Boy be the next entertainer to land a major deal with the fast-food restaurant chain?

“I got a billion dollar idea [lightbulb emoji] @McDonalds trust me,” tweeted the rapper over the weekend. It took a few days for the major corporation’s social media team to respond, but they told Soulja their ears were open for his genius idea, which got him to elaborate.

“The SouljaBurger but the secret is the ingredients,” explained Big Draco. “I’ll dm them to you trust me this will go VIRAL!”

Do you think Soulja Boy is about to have his next big viral moment with a McDonald’s partnership? Any guesses as to what the secret ingredient is in his burger?

Recently, Draco has been pitching a second part to his Verzuz battle against Bow Wow, also speaking about the lessons he’s picked up from Kanye West, Diddy, 50 Cent, and others over the years. Additionally, an update became available in his ongoing abuse case against Jane Doe, in which he denies any wrongdoing. Read more about that here and check out the McDonald’s-related posts below.

Migos Explain What “Straightenin” Actually Means

Roughly a month before they dropped their fourth studio album, the Migos started to get listeners ready for Culture III by releasing their first single of 2021, “Straightenin.” For those who have somehow not yet heard the song, the DJ Durel-produced track features an infectious hook in which Quavo repeats “Straightenin” over and over before rapping, “Don’t nothin’ get straightenin’ but straightenin’.

Months following the song and the album’s release, however, many people still seem to be confused as to what “straightenin” actually means. Complex’s Speedy Morman, who interviewed the iconic Atlanta Hip-Hop trio upon the release of Culture III, asked the group to define the phrase, but even he didn’t look satisfied with their explanation.

Now, it appears that comedian and night show host James Corden has found himself in a similar position. In a new video posted by DJ Akademiks, the Migos are seen explaining the concept of “straightenin” once again, but now, they seem to be making a joke about the fact that everyone seems to be confused by the lyrics in the first place.

“So if we don’t know what’s going on,” Quavo says. “We have to straighten it.”

Offset co-signs Quavo’s explanation saying, “We gotta straighten that sh*t first.” However, Takeoff then throws off the whole definition by flipping it on its head, saying, “You gotta straighten the issue, but you’ve gotta get an understanding before you get a straighten.”

“You can’t get no straightenin without no understanding,” Quavo adds, completely contradicting how he has defined “straightenin” in past interview. “So before understanding, you gotta get straightenin.”

While “straightenin” continues to be an ill-defined term as far as many listeners are concerned, Quavo, Offset, and Takeoff do a much better job explaining the other lyrics — including the ones that fans thought were directed at Saweetie — from “Straightenin” in their recent sit-down with Genius. Check it out below.

Do you think Migos were actually trying to help Corden understand what “straightenin” means or were they just trolling?
