Portion Links Up With The Gang On “Ties”

Toronto’s Portion is keeping a steady stream of music coming as he gears up for the release of a new project. Fresh off of the release of his single, “99 PRBLMS,” he returned with the follow-up, “Ties.” The rapper glides over hypnotizing flutes and acoustic guitar scales with pain-riddled melodies reflecting on the environment he and many others in Toronto grew up around.

“It’s relatable for a lot of young kids,” Portion said of his new single. “We grew up in a ruthless environment. It’s tough to make it out. I try to take my pain and make champagne with a lot of my music and this is another example of that.”

Portion is among those ushering in a new era of Toronto rap and we’re excited to hear what he has up his sleeves next.

City Girls, Coi Leray & Lakeyah Link Up & Do The “Twerkulator” Dance

XXL announced their 2021 Freshman Class last week. The new list of the hottest up-and-coming artists in the game included Detroit native 42 Dugg, Chicago emcee Pooh Shiesty, Toosii, DDG, and more. Most notably, however, this year’s Freshman Class boasts the most women to ever be crowned with the honorary title in history.

Flo Milli, Coi Leray, Lakeyah, and Rubi Rose all earned spots on the list, a positive signal towards a new generation of hip hop dominated by women rappers. Over the weekend, established game players City Girls connected with Coi Leray and Lakeyah, linking up with the new Freshman to kick it backstage.

On Saturday (June 19), the ladies of rap linked up behind the scenes of a Mississippi concert that the Miami duo, Lil Baby, Moneybagg Yo, and Coi Leray were all scheduled to perform at. As the ladies relaxed backstage before the show, they pulled out their phones to do the viral “Twerkulator” dance together.

All dolled up for their performances, the ladies, minus JT, turned up together in a TikTok shared to Lakeyah’s account. Elsewhere, Lakeyah shared footage of JT right before hitting the stage.

Seeing the ladies of rap embrace the incoming generation of female rappers with open arms is always exciting to witness considering they’re often pitted against each other. Nicki Minaj recently reached out to Coi Leray with advice on keeping her head up despite the negativity.

“Don’t do that. Chin up,” responded Nicki. “Always remember this, when black ppl not fkn w|you #TheyWillBoo,” she added. “Those ppl were on their feet. That means they may not have known the song, but they were interested in getting to know more— so they were observing u. Charge it to the game & move on”

Gucci Mane Taps Pooh Shiesty & Sir Mix-A-Lot For “Posse On Bouldercrest”

On Friday, Gucci Mane returned with a new album titled,  Ice Daddy. The project arrived just before Father’s Day and celebrates Gucci’s newfound appreciation for fatherhood with the birth of his son Ice Davis who also serves as the album’s executive producer. In usual fashion, Gucci Mane brings along a slew of collaborators, many from within his own camp, to bring his new project to life but perhaps, the collaboration no one expected was “Posse On Bouldercrest” with 1017 shining pupil Pooh Shiesty and Sir Mix-A-Lot. With production coming from Mike Will Made-It, there’s an old school bounce leading the production as Gucci and Pooh Shiesty bring it back to Wop’s old stomping grounds and Sir Mix-A-Lot handles hook duty.

Peep the record below and sound off with your thoughts on Ice Daddy.

Fans Resurface Old Megan Thee Stallion Interview Amid DaBaby Drama

After months of speculation and rumors, Megan thee Stallion finally confirmed on Instagram live in August of 2020 that Tory Lanez was the person responsible for shooting her. Following Megan breaking her silence, the silence from hip hop’s biggest players and jokes from internet users in the wake of the shooting was loud.

On Saturday (June 19), just days after DaBaby released his new collaboration with Lanez “Skat,” frequent collaborators Megan and DaBaby engaged in a back and forth on social media. The drama unfolded after DaBaby retweeted a post that made light of Lanez’s alleged assault against Megan. Following the incident, internet users resurfaced an old interview of Megan where she seemingly denied letting personal relationships get in the way of her business decisions.

In the interview, conducted during her Good News press run, Megan touched on how personal relationships didn’t weigh on her professional decisions. “Did you hit up Nicki first like ‘I want you to hear about it but I’m working with Cardi’ or that is like, all over,” asked the interviewer to Megan, considering she has now collaborated with both rappers who have a tense history together.

“Um, I didn’t feel like I had to call her first. I mean, cus at the end of the day, I’m still an artist and I should be free to work with whoever I want to work with. My personal relationship with anybody doesn’t affect what I choose to do as an artist,” said Megan in response.

Some internet users referenced the clip, asserting that she should apply the same logic to the situation with DaBaby and Tory Lanez. “Practice what you preach,” wrote one person. “He can work with who he pleases but that tweet was OD,” pointed out another person.

Either way, it seems Megan and DaBaby may never see eye to eye about the situation.

Carmelo & La La Anthony Attend Son’s Ball Game After Divorce Filing

Carmelo and La La Anthony have been through a lot over the last couple of decades. The two have been together since Melo’s time with the Denver Nuggets and there have been moments in their relationship where they were simply no longer together. For instance, just a few years ago, it seemed like they were about to get divorced although they eventually got back together. Now, La La has officially filed for divorce, which is news that was officially reported on Thursday.

Despite this, the two remain friends and they are committed to co-parenting their son Kiyan. In fact, according to TMZ, the two were sitting next to each other at Kiyan’s basketball game in Miami over the weekend. The two maintained a low profile throughout the game and as you can see from the images at the link below, they were friendly with one another.

Their appearance at the game comes after allegations from a woman that Carmelo is the father of her twins. Melo and La La have not commented on this story and for now, the woman’s allegations remain unverified. Regardless, it’s yet another addition to an already dramatic week for the couple.

Moving forward, it appears as though the divorce proceedings will go smoothly, and we wish the couple the best of luck in the future.
