Bobby Brown & Keith Sweat Make For An Old School, Memorable “Verzuz”

It was another unforgettable evening for Verzuz. Legends Bobby Brown and Keith Sweat shared the stage on Thursday (July 1) to deliver some of their greatest hits and fans weren’t disappointed. It was obvious that Sweat and Brown are friends in real life as they respected one another and even acted as each other’s hype man.

Hundreds of thousands of R&B lovers tuned in to watch these talented “old heads” come together to share some favorites from the 1980s and 1990s.

Brown couldn’t pass up the opportunity to perform a few New Edition classics and his list of songs included “Don’t Be Cruel, “Mr. Telephone Man,” “Jealous Girl, “Hit Me Off, “Rock Wit’Cha,” “Humpin’ Around,” and his Ghostbusters classic, “On Our Own.” Sweat got the ladies worked up with tracks like “Make This Last Forever,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” “Right and Wrong Way,” “Get Up On It,” and “Something Just Ain’t Right.”

Fans thought they would see special appearances by LSG or New Edition, but instead, Tank and Pleasure P came out during Keith Sweat’s last song, “Nobody.” Bobby Brown closed out the show by performing “My Prerogative,” a fitting way to bow out.

The responses to this Verzuz were filled with viewers celebrating the walk down memory lane, but of course, there were plenty of jokes to be made. That Ciroc is no joke. Check out clips, as well as reactions, below.

J Balvin And Skrillex Throw A Massive House Party In Their Electric Video For ‘In Da Getto’

J Balvin has been extremely active in 2021 and his increased presence in the music world comes just a little over a year after he dropped his fifth album, Colores. With his sixth effort seemingly just around the corner, the Latin star teams up with Skrillex to unveil their new collaboration, “In Da Getto.”

In it, the two artists call up their friends to throw a massive house party. The electric gathering features a game of spin the bottle, explosive fireworks in the night sky, and a brief session that finds Balvin getting his nails done. The visual also sees appearances from TikTok favorites Khaby Lame and dancer Mustafa.

The new song and video serve as Balvin’s fourth single of the year. He kicked off his 2021 campaign at the end of February with a trip back home to a barrio in Medellin for his “Ma’ G” video before returning weeks later with his “Tu Veneno” video. Then, at the beginning of April, he shared his third single of the year, “Otra Noche Sin Ti,” which presented a guest appearance from Khalid.

Outside of music, Balvin recently teamed up with UPS for a campaign in support of Latinx small businesses. “My early days in music felt very comparable to getting a small business off the ground, so I know what it means to start from scratch and chase your dreams,” he said about the partnership.

Skrillex is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Kid Cudi Labeled Those Who Celebrated Bill Cosby’s Release From Prison As ‘F*ckin Idiots’

On Wednesday morning, the entertainment world was surprised with the news that Bill Cosby would be released from prison by the end of the day. The comedian’s 2018 sexual assault conviction was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. It came after former prosecutor Bruce Castor made a “non-prosecution agreement” with Cosby in which he would not criminally charge the comedian as long as he agreed to sit for a deposition in a civil case that was filed against him. However, Castor’s successors reopened the case and charged Cosby in 2015 which led to a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. This prior agreement with Castor is what caused the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to overturn the decision.

After hearing the news of Cudi’s impending freedom, a number of people took to Twitter to share their reactions. Some were disappointed and others celebrated the news. Kid Cudi’s stance was clear, but his response aimed directly at those who were happy for Cosby’s release. “People that are celebrating Bill Cosby being released are f*ckin idiots,” he wrote in a tweet.

One person that celebrated Cosby’s release from prison was his former Cosby Show co-star, Phylicia Rashad. “FINALLY!!!!” A terrible wrong is being righted,” she tweeted. “[A] miscarriage of justice is corrected!” To the surprise of no one, her message was not appreciated as many on the social media app slammed her the response. She would later delete the tweet and apologize for it in a second post.

“I fully support survivors of sexual assault coming forward,” she wrote. “My post was in no way intended to be insensitive to their truth. Personally, I know from friends and family that such abuse has lifelong residual effects. My heartfelt wish is for healing.”

Lil Kim Claps Back At 50 Cent: “I See Ur Still In Ur Feels Over That Dinner Date”

He’s known to share memes that troll his celebrity friends, but 50 Cent recently got checked over a post he made about Lil Kim. The Queen Bee appeared at the 2021 BET Awards and took to the stage to honor Queen Latifah, and her style was criticized by 50 Cent. He shared a side-by-side photo of Lil Kim next to an owl, and soon, Kim’s man Mr. Papers jumped in with a response.

“Leave my wife out the Jokes Ya heard,” said Papers. Fif hasn’t responded, but Lil Kim decided to chime in. She opened her message by laughing at the joke, stating that she “ain’t bothered one bit” and her “family & friends more mad than me.”

“Sh*t like this don’t move me one way or another cause I’m still a bad b*tch that n*ggaz b*tches, mommies, daughters, and aunties still want to be till this day and I love it!! [cryin laughing emojis].” However, she didn’t pass up the opportunity to send a slight jab Fif’s way.

“@50Cent I see u still in ur feels about that dinner date u asked me on that I had to turn down,” she said. “Let it go u have a beautiful girlfriend, I have a loving husband. Let it go.” She also sent out a warning to people attacking Mr. Papers. “And for those of u coming at my husband, Mr. Papers, he did real n*gga sh*t. What a husband is suppose to do. [strong arm emoji][one hundred emoji].”

“All y’all can go to hell. Respectfully,” Lil Kim added. “50Cent, I address that situation all in my book coming in November. Make sure you go get it.”

Lamar Odom’s Ex Responds To His Allegations: “That’s Some Lame Sh*t!”

The child support case involving Lamar Odom and his ex Liza Morales has come to a head. The couple shares two adult children, but Morales has reportedly taken the former NBA star to court over unpaid child support and allegations that he hasn’t paid the rent for her New York City apartment. Odom and Morales reportedly came to an agreement in 2015 regarding finances, but Odom took to social media yesterday to declare he shouldn’t have to pay Morales anything. According to him, he’s supported her for years and now that their children are adults, he told Morales to get a job because it’s not his responsibility to take care of her.

“I decided to come back on social media after a short break,” Morales wrote in a response on Instagram. “Lies and inaccuracies were put on Instagram today by Lamar, and his manager Tonita ByBee.”

“Lamar should have showed up to court yesterday. He could have raised his right hand, and provided the numbers and information to the judge,” she continued. “Actually, Lamar couldn’t do that, because he would have had to lie to the court. There are so many women who do the right thing. Truly solid, trying to be cordial for the sake of the kids. Putting them first.”

Morales added that there are women out there who are difficult, as well, but she refuses to let Odom place her in that category. “That’s some lame sh*t cause you know the truth ! The ones that matter know the truth !”

She called Odom and his manager “disgusting” for attempting to “control the narrative” on social media. “You spit falsehoods to the people that don’t know all the facts,” Morales added. “It’s quite deceptive of the both of you… Keep in mind there is so much more that is still unknown.”

New Lockjaw Diet Device Outrages Public

650 million adults worldwide suffer from obesity. New Zealand-based company Dentalslim Diet Control believes they have created the world’s “first weight-loss device to help fight the global obesity epidemic.”

The magnetic locking bolt contraption mimics the torture devices of the Middle Ages. While wearing it, the user is restricted to a liquid-only diet with their mouth’s mobility being reduced to 1/16 of an inch.

Professor Paul Brunton, pro-vice-chancellor at the New Zealand University of Otago’s Division of Health Sciences, boasts that the best feature of the device is that it is “a non-invasive, reversible, economical and attractive alternative to surgical procedures,” and can be easily removed at any event of a special splurge on a non-liquid meal or an emergency.

A New Zealand trial resulted in users losing an average of 14 pounds in two weeks but the patients did report that they were “uncomfortable and unable to speak with a sense that life, in general, was less satisfying.”

Social media was shocked by the rigorous invention with one Twitter user stating, “And this, kids, is why ethics needs to be taught in science.” Molecular biologist Dr. Raven tweeted, “Delete this. Delete the research team. Delete everything.”

The official University of Otago account tweeted out a statement including, “To clarify, the intention of the device is not intended as a quick or long-term weight-loss tool; rather it is aimed to assist people who need to undergo surgery and who cannot have the surgery until they have lost weight.”

Boosie Badazz Believes Lil Reese Doesn’t “Want To Look Like A Coward” So He Stays In Chicago

In 2019, Lil Reese was shot in the neck in his hometown of Chicago. The rapper was unsure if he would be able to talk or continue his career, but thankfully, Reese was able to recover. However, months ago he was shot once again while in the Windy City, this time a bullet grazed his eye during an attack. Reese made a successful recovery for the second time, and DJ Vlad questioned Boosie Badazz about the events, asking why Lil Reese would stay in Chicago.

“Some people feel more safer at home,” said Boosie. “Even though they—it’s either two reasons, they feel more safer at home, you don’t want to look like a coward, like you leaving your city.”

“That was, both of them was for me before I went to prison,” he continued. “I felt more safer at home. I always felt like if I left Baton Rouge they would turn on me. The city would turn on me ’cause  was all Baton Rouge had. I don’t know, he was probably in the same shoes I’m in, but I don’t know why he wouldn’t want to leave. He might feel more safer in the jungle.”

Boosie said that’s also where people “make [their] money” and it can be difficult to leave that behind, as well. Vlad argued that none of that makes a difference if you’re dead. “Most time you don’t think about death ’til you die like that,” answered Boosie. “You don’t  really be thinking that you gon’ die ’til you die.”

“Once you in the streets like, bruh, it’s hard to leave ’em.” Check out the conversation below.

USC Legend Reggie Bush Requests NCAA Reinstate His Heisman Trophy & Records

Former University of Southern California star running back Reggie Bush, who forfeited his 2005 Heisman Trophy, after an NCAA investigation found he received impermissible benefits while at school, says he wants his trophy and records to be reinstated. The NCAA granted students the right to profit off their names, images and likenesses, this week. The decision comes after decades of legal, political, and public pressure.

“We left multiple messages for Michael Comerford, the President of the Heisman Trust, but instead received a call from Rob Whalen, the Executive Director, who stated that Mr. Comerford would not be calling us back and that, in any event, they could not help us,” Bush said in a statement, explaining his attempts to see how his records will be affected.

Bush concluded that his success came “solely” off the success of his hard work and performance: “It is my strong belief that I won the Heisman Trophy ‘solely’ due to my hard work and dedication on the football field and it is also my firm belief that my records should be reinstated,” he said.

In addition to Bush’s records being vacated, the NCAA put the USC football program on four-year probation.

Biden’s Press Secretary Answers Questions About What President Thinks Of Bill Cosby Release

Media outlets were trying to snag the president into making some sort of statement regarding Bill Cosby’s release, but the White House’s press secretary Jen Psaki wasn’t having it. On Thursday (July 1), the White House held a briefing where Psaki, as usual, took questions from reporters. This week, Bill Cosby was released from prison after his sexual assault conviction was overturned on a technicality. People have debated Cosby’s guilt or innocence throughout several social media platformers, and reporters wanted to know what President Biden thinks of the ruling.

“The president has long been an advocate for fighting against violence against women, for ensuring that we are raising the voices and the stories of people who have been survivors of sexual assault,” said Psaki.

“That’s something he has done throughout his career and will continue to do,” she continued, adding that Biden was instrumental in writing the Violence Against Women Act in 1994. “But I don’t have a specific comment on that announcement today.” However, she did suggest that the president may make a statement regarding Cosby’s case at a later time.

That answer wasn’t good enough for some, so Psaki was once again questioned about Biden’s opinion, especially considering Cosby was freed not because he was declared innocent but because prosecutors didn’t honor an agreement to not pursue charges. A reporter wanted to know “what message” that sends to “women in the ‘MeToo’ era” who decide to come forward with their stories.

Psaki stated that Biden has “advocated for elevating the voices and stories of women who are survivors of sexual assault, sexual abuse, and certainly knows that’s a difficult journey for many of them.”  Adding, “He believes that these women are courageous, they’re brave, and he wants it to be an environment, wants us to live in a country where they, where women, will feel comfortable moving forward and telling their story.”

Following his release, Cosby shared a statement where he maintained his innocence and thanked his supporters for standing by him through his trial and incarceration.
