New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Will Allow Music Venues To Reopen In April

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo had some measured good news for the state’s music fans: arts, entertainment, and events venues will be allowed to reopen in April, according to The New York Times. However, there will be limitations, of course, in the interest of public safety. Venues will be capped at 33% capacity, with a maximum of 100 people for indoor and 200 people for outdoor venues. Venues that can administer COVID-19 tests to all attendees can increase that number to 150 people indoors and 500 outdoors. The new rules are set to go into effect on April 2.

However, the Times does note that the limits won’t make it feasible for many venues to open; unless attendees get absolutely loaded, venues likely won’t be able to cover the costs of re-opening, keeping some — or most — effectively closed down until restrictions are lifted further. For instance, Broadway shows won’t be coming back until Labor Day, considering how much cost goes into production — shows that only get 33% attendance generally close within a season. Further complicating the issue is social distancing; many venues would require even lower numbers than that to accommodate six feet of distance between attendees.

But having outdoor shows back could be a good look, especially for indie performers and smaller, lower-production shows. Meanwhile, with something like an average of 65,500 new cases per week and over 517,000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, it might be better to be safe than sorry. With the vaccine rollout expected to allow more venues to reopen in the fall according to Presidential chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci, fans may appreciate waiting just a few more months.

Lil Yachty Blasts DJ Vlad, Calls Him A “B*tch” & An “FBI Agent”

Fellow 2016 XXL Freshmen Lil Yachty and Lil Uzi Vert were once seemingly close friends, having shared the spotlight together on one of the most iconic XXL Freshmen cyphers in recent years. However, over the past year or so, things haven’t been the smoothest between the former SoundCloud rappers, with many fans pointing to the fact that both of them have been romantically tied to City Girls’ JT.

Last month, it appeared that Yachty and Uzi had moved past their drama when Uzi said that he was cool with the Lil Boat rapper, but a recent Instagram post from DJ Vlad hinted that the two rappers weren’t friends after all. DJ Vlad claimed that in Yachty’s surprise phone call appearance on the latest episode of The No Jumper Showthe Atlanta artist had ruled out any possibility of patching things up with Lil Uzi Vert. Yachty quickly caught wind of Vlad’s post and subsequently took to Twitter to sound off on the veteran interviewer, alluding to rumors that DJ Vlad is in cahoots with the FBI.

DJ Vlad noticed Yachty’s bold tweet and decided to come back at the rapper with a tweet of his own, and soon the two public figures were going back and forth on Twitter.

You can check out the full No Jumper episode below, in which the phone interview with Lil Yachty appears towards the end of the video. Do you think that Lil Yachty was alluding to pressure with Uzi or was he simply trying to not touch on the subject publicly?

The Game Responds To Scamming Allegations

West Coast rap legend The Game came under fire last week after a number of unsigned rappers teamed up to call him out for allegedly scamming them out of thousands of dollars worth of promotion. According to the allegations, The Game was reportedly contacting rappers via DM on social media and offering his platform to promote their music, but then he failed to follow through after some artists paid his fee.

The accusations came prior to the release of three new mixtapes from The Game, which he used to put on those same unsigned artists. The mixtapes were called End Games and they’re available on his secondary SoundCloud page. Game previously hadn’t said much about the claims but, in a brand new interview with HopHopDX, he explains that he is simply using his status as a rap legend to “uplift artists with dope opportunities”, denying that there’s anything shady happening.

“[My business partner] Trillz came to me and said he had a unique opportunity for underground artists,” said Game. “I was once an underground artist, so I understand it. No one services underground artists and unsigned artists in the manner that he and I do. No one cares, right? You find Lil Baby by chance and he blows up, but what about everybody else? So what Trillz has created with me and other artists is just a sort of engine to power you in the early stages of your career. What it would have meant to me to have a video drop from Ludacris in the beginning of my career.”

He explains that his promotion was solely meant to serve as a rung on the ladder to success, stating that some people like thought this would be a life-changing opportunity. “So when someone that doesn’t happen with some unsigned artists, well that person is mad, right? Because they thought that this drop or this mixtape slot was going to change their lives, when in reality it’s just a step on the ladder,” he said. “Use it as you may and get as much as you can off of it, but it’s not going to make you DaBaby. Basically, I’m just trying to uplift artists with dope opportunities.”

Game suggests that the allegations come as part of a smear campaign by “a group of people” that initially liked the services he was providing but were declined from participating.

He goes on to say that his promotional services are for artists to use as they may. “When someone calls Trillz and they say, ‘Oh, we want Game to do a video drop,’ and say, ‘Yo, this is my song, ‘Fly on the Wall’ and I get on my phone and I do the video drops for ‘Fly on the Wall,’ you gotta take that video drop you paid for and do whatever it is that you do with it, right?” he says. “Like me and you, we pull up to McDonald’s. We know the new McRib is back and we drive up to McDonald’s. We got in our car, we drove through the drive through, we ordered the food, we gave them our money and then we get the McRib, but one of us doesn’t like it. So you throw yours out the window and mine is good. What do we do? You go run and say, ‘Hey, McDonald’s is f*cking trash.’ If you want to, you can. But me, I had a different experience from you and I f*cking enjoyed my McRib. So it’s just that. You can’t make everybody happy. And then again, people think that paying a few hundred dollars for a video drop is going to make them fucking Lionel Richie. Come on, let’s be real. That’s not a reality.”

Ludacris Is Flying Planes Now

Ludacris might not be releasing music at the same pace as he once was — though he did recently issue a crucial reminder that his bar-game remains potent — but that hasn’t stopped the Disturbing Tha Peace legend from keeping himself busy. In fact, Ludacris appears dead set on doing every conceivable task at least, be it perfecting the culinary arts, exploring uncharted territory, and now, taking to the skies and piloting an airplane.

“If You Don’t Evolve, You’ll Evaporate,” captions Luda, alongside a clip of his bold foray into the world of aviation; though he doesn’t say much in the video, his awestruck chuckle is rather telling. Unsurprisingly, many of his hip-hop peers were quick to praise the rapper’s newly displayed talent, with Cam’ron, Big K.R.I.T, Fat Joe, Jamie Foxx, and more sliding into Luda’s comments with some words (and emojis) of encouragement. On the other hand, some fans were quick to poke fun at the rapper’s tendency to observe his surroundings, drawing comparison to a driver checking blind spots before a lane switch.

Jokes aside, it’s clear that many were impressed with Luda’s aerial adventure, and one has to wonder if we’ll see further video surrounding his decision to pursue his pilot’s license. Check out the brief clip below, and keep an eye out for further news on Ludacris’ next moves. If we’re lucky, we’ll soon see an update on that album he and Timbaland were working on back in 2019 — though it’s certainly been a minute since the last update on that front.

“Meet the newest member of our family…Speed,” wrote Kim on Wednesday on Instagram, introducing the world to the latest addition to the Kardashian squad. Speed is a bearded dragon that Kim & Ko. originally babysat for her best friend, but she stuck around for the long-term after they fell in love. “I really wasn’t planning on liking Speed the way I do but she grew on me!”

Posting a few pictures of Speed in her furry pink Skims cozy, Kim also pointed out that the lizard has a “Lil Uzi jewel” on its face, but she clarified that it was there before the Philadelphia rapper had his $24 million diamond implanted. “Speed got a makeover with custom Skims Cozy and even the Lil Uzi jewel,” she wrote before clarifying, “Speed actually got the jewel a few months back; North always knows what’s up!”

The reality star and ultra-successful businesswoman shared a few of the custom outfits she’s made for Speed, posting three different colorways of her Skims robe.

In the comments, people are laughing with Kim about Speed’s “Lil Uzi jewel” but some of the top comments are pointing out that bearded dragons supposedly breathe through their skin, and thus the clothing could be making it harder for her pet to live. Kim has not responded to the criticism at the time of this article’s publication.

Welcome to the Kardashian Family, Speed!

Bow Wow Tells Drea Kelly: “Don’t Forget I’m Your Boss”

Bow Wow is not a fan of his Growing Up Hip Hop: Atlanta co-star Drea Kelly, unexpectedly trashing her on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

33-year-old rapper Bow Wow is one of the attractions on the show, serving as one of the main characters and making regular appearances throughout the show’s four seasons. Drea Kelly is part of the supporting cast, making sporadic appearances on the show as part of her daughter Buku’s storyline. Despite them sharing the same platform, Bow Wow doesn’t understand why Drea Kelly is still on the show, airing out his grievances on Twitter.

“Why is drea kelly even on #guhhatl,” asked the rapper and aspiring WWE wrestler about R. Kelly’s ex-wife. “She’s like 62 and her only claim to fame is well…. and how long you gone ride that wave? Just saying. Dont forget im your boss.”

For the record, Drea is only 47-years-old. People are in Bow’s replies reminding him that it’s not too late to delete the tweet, explaining that because of Drea’s connection to an extremely impactful figure in hip-hop and R&B, her spot on the cast is deserved.
