Jimmy Butler Signs 4-Year, $184 Million Extension With Heat

Jimmy Butler has been a pivotal player for the Miami Heat in recent years, even with the team’s fluctuating performance in the Eastern Conference. Averaging over 21 points and 6 rebounds per game last season, Butler remains the ringleader of the Heat franchise. His integral role on the team is clearly of value to the Heat as Miami and Butler have agreed to extend his contract. Butler signed a 4-year extension for a whopping $184 million.

“With Jimmy, we get an All-NBA player, an All-NBA Defensive player, tough as nails and a complete player across the board. He’s very deserving of this contract as he continually puts himself at the top of the league at his position. Having him in the HEAT organization has been a great, great coup for us,” Pat Riley, Miami Heat President, said. Butler has made third-team All-NBA in the past two seasons he played in Miami. He made second team All-Defense in 2021, as well.

Butler has played an important part in bringing other high-ticket talent to Miami, as Pat Riley corroborated. “Jimmy is the anchor and face of our franchise along with Bam and Kyle,” said Riley in reference to Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry. Lowry, a close friend of Butler, is set to sign an almost $90 million contract with the Heat for a three year stint.

This contract extension also includes a player-option for the 2022-2023 season in the form of $37.6 million.

Dave Chappelle Adds Three More Dates At Detroit’s Fillmore

After selling out an initial lineup of four shows dates at Detroit’s Fillmore venue, Dave Chappelle has added three more dates to the venue for a 6-night stay in the Motor City

Originally scheduled for August 10, 11, and 12 with two shows on the 10th, fans can now try to catch a date through the 15th, starting Monday when tickets go on sale at 10 a.m.

As the pandemic continues, rapid COVID-19 testing will be available onsite and required prior to entry. The week-long exhibition is a the latest in a string of events for Chappelle as he eases into a post-COVID show run. Michigan marks a relatively safer site to test out audiences with the state maintaining particularly low numbers for positive COVID-19 cases, especially as the Delta variant of the virus sparks new fears.

In June, Chappelle was the headliner to reopen New York City’s Radio City Music Hall as he premiered his Dave Chappelle: This Time This Place documentary. It marked the final event of the Tribeca Festival this year as Chappelle documented the series of outdoor concerts that he put on throughout 2020 in Ohio. Notably, the likes of Trevor Noah, Kevin Hart, and Chelsea Handler were in attendance at a handful of the shows.

At the premiere, proof of full vaccination was required.

Oakland To Honor Shock G With Day-Long Celebration

Digital Underground’s Shock G will be honored in Oakland with a day-long tribute that will reportedly spread across the city.

Per Atron Gregory, Shock’s longtime manager, August 21 will mark a day of service in which the late emcee’s family and friends plan to feed 2,000 community members.

Per TMZ, Shock G’s life was particularly marked by helping those in need. His loved ones plan to honor his legacy of giving back with this event. A motorcade will also take place, marching on toward city hall for a musical tribute with live performances and speakers before an after-party of Oakland’s The New Parish venue.

Previously, the city drafted a proposal to make August 25th “Digital Underground Day” in the city of Oakland, citing Shock G’s contributions to Hip-Hop and Oakland’s musical legacy.

“Shock G continually helped to develop emerging musical talent, including now-legendary local artists such as Tupac Shakur, Raw Fusion (Money B and DJ Fuze), Saafir the Saucee Nomad, The Luniz, Mystic, Cleetis Mack, Pee Wee ,and many others,” read the proposal.
“Despite all the other talent in the mix, Shock G was the leader and mainstay of the group, delighting crowds with his wild outfits, great music, and cool stage personas.”

It was in April that Shock, born Gregory Jacobs, was found dead at 57 after an accidental overdose in Tampa, Florida where he’d been living with family following a battle with addiction, per longtime friend Nzazi Malonga.

Ezekiel Elliott Catches Yet Another Lawsuit Over Alleged Dog Biting

Let’s hope Dallas Cowboy Ezekiel Elliott’s NFL contracts are enough to keep up with the never ending lawsuits he’s falling victim to. This week, the Cowboy player was presented with his third lawsuit in over a year concerning his three dogs.

Jennifer Gampper, a neighbor of Elliott, is seeking a whopping $1 million in damages after allegedly suffering severe and permanent injuries at the hands of the NFL player’s Rottweiler Ace. The incident reportedly happened in May, when three of Elliott’s dogs escaped his Frisco, Texas home and one attacked Gampper along with one other victim not named in the lawsuit.

“Mr. Elliott and his representatives are aware of the lawsuit filed on July 30th, which stems from a previously reported incident from May 21st of this year. As Mr. Elliott expressed at that time, he was – and remains concerned – for the party involved,” Elliott’s lawyer Frank Salzano told TMZ. However, according to the Elliot camp, there’s more to the story. “However, as in most disputes, there are extenuating circumstances to this matter which will impact the legal proceedings which we are not at liberty to disclose,” Salzano added.

Local police already hit Elliott with three citations for the May incident. His Rottweiler, Ace, has since been removed from the city per a court order.

Just over a year ago, Elliott was sued for a similar incident after a pool cleaner was allegedly attacked and dragged by all three dogs simultaneously. This was followed by another lawsuit earlier this summer when the Rottweiler allegedly bit a pet resort employee.

Lizzo Says Twerking Is “Good For Humanity” In TED Talk

Houston singer Lizzo, who once made headlines for twerking at an NBA game, took time out this past week to clarify her stance on twerking and its significance to black culture at TED Monterey.

During her TED talk, the Houston singer gave a brief history of the dance and warned non-black dancers from appropriating the move. Accompanied by five performers, Lizzo gave quite possibly the most thorough and demonstrative lecture on twerking and why she believes the sometimes controversial dance is “good for humanity.”

Lizzo’s TED talk– a short but often engaging and informative form of lecturing– began with a dive into the history books as the Houston artist explained the origin of her (and associated acts like Megan Thee Stallion’s) favorite dance. She explained that twerking derives its roots from the West African mapouka dance, then tracing its timeline through Blues singer Bessie Smith to Beyoncé’s 2003 “Crazy in Love” dance.

She then issued a warning to those appropriating the dance from black culture, which she feels is an infringement on the dance’s roots. Those who understand the cultural and historical significance of the dance are better equipped to keep the dance unique to black culture, Lizzo believes.

The singer has found herself in the middle of controversy before due to her passion for twerking. In 2019, Lizzo turned heads when she suffered an “intentional wardrobe malfunction” while dancing on the sidelines of a Los Angeles Lakers. While some shrugged the incident off as comical and expressive, others criticized the singer for exposing herself to children watching at him and in the audience.

While the TED talk isn’t available for streaming yet, those looking for a deep dive into the dance should stay tuned for its release.

Shaq Returns Fire After Dwight Howard’s Impersonates Him

Dwight Howard took to Twitter this week to poke fun at one of his most outspoken critics by impersonating Shaq and his steadfast support of Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. “I still got— I still got the Milwaukee Bucks winning, I got Giannis— he’s the new Superman, so I think he’s going to win,” Howard said as he mimicked Shaq’s signature deep voice. It seems Howard took Shaq’s praise of Giannis as “Superman” personally. Howard previously earned the nickname after rocking a Superman cape during the 2008 NBA All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk Contest.

However, it wasn’t long before the ESPN host caught wind of the Instagram post and issued a response of his own. Late Friday night, Shaq reposted Howard’s video with a hilarious caption deeming both the impersonation and Howard’s basketball talent as “So So.”

“Not bad @dwighthoward reminds me of your game SO SO,” Shaq captioned a repost of Howard’s video on Instagram. It didn’t take long for other NBA players and fans to flood the comment section with laughing emojis. One user even commented, “There will always be only one superman and it’s SHAQ.” It seems that Shaq will remain on the Dwight Howard hate train for the time being.

Shaq elaborated on his disdain towards the Lakers player last October on his podcast in a slight at Howard’s dramatic celebration of the 2020 finals win. “I know you know who I’m talking about. Stop it. Frontrunner. Bandwagon jumper. Stop it. Post one pic and sit your a** down,” he said.

Cam’ron & Styles P Address Verzuz Battle: “We Will Never Beef”

It’s no secret that the latest iteration of the Verzuz series breathed new life into the franchise as Dipset and The Lox put on a battle for the ages.

Beyond the friendly fire exchanged between the two camps on stage as they fired off their legendary catalogs, the tension between the sets underscored the energy of the showing and continues to be the topic of discussion post-battle.

Notably, a clip of Styles P and Cam’ron has circulated as the latter is seen kicking the former. In a recent clip together, however, the two emcees addressed the moment, passing it off as a comical interaction more than anything else.

“I appreciate my drip,” Cam said in regard to the pants that he was wearing. “That shit was $1000 and he tried to rip the whole pants leg off.”

Memorably, the kick came as Styles approached Cam while letting off a few verses. In Styles defense, however, he says he warned the Dipset representative that things would get a little tense in the name of competition.

“I said, ‘Killa, we getting chippy […] don’t bust me in my face, Killa’.”

Cam admits that he almost forgot the warning and thought the moment would’ve escalated. “I thought we was gon’ get in Randy Savage mode.”

All in all, the two friends seem to be in good spirits following the New York battle.

“I love this man,” Styles says at one point before warning promoters that Dipset and The Lox are not and will never beef. “We had a great time […] we said we would give you the show of your lifetime and we did.”

Toronto’s Top5 Connects With WhyG & BunDog On “Movie”

Toronto’s Top5 became one of the most notorious figures to emerge out of the city’s hip-hop scene. The rapper is currently on the lam for a first-degree murder charge but that hasn’t prevented him from releasing new music. On Friday, the rapper returned with his latest offering, “Movie” ft. WhyG and Bundog, Pressa’s older brother. The drill-influenced song takes its cue from Fivio Foreign’s ad-libs while Top5 boasts about his infamy.

“If you were waiting on a movie all year, this is the one you have been waiting for,” Top5 said in a statement via Complex. “Get your popcorn and make your way to the cinema at midnight because these dangerous humans look like they are going viral.”

Ahead of the single’s release, Top5 invited Toronto Mayor John Tory to a one-on-one sitdown where they can spit their facts. Tory later responded to Top5 in a statement to a local news outlet. “I know the devastation and trauma that murders in our city have caused families and neighbourhoods and it is very troubling to know someone charged with murder has so far not made himself available to the authorities,” Tory said.

Check out Top5’s new single below.
