“Y: The Last Man” TV Series Gets First Official Trailer

The TV adaptation of fan-favorite DC comic, Y: The Last Man, is finally on its way with a release date set for September 13th. FX on Hulu treated fans with the first official trailer for the upcoming series. The teaser follows Y, the last man on earth, as he navigates a world completely ran by women in search of the origin of the event that wiped out every male.

Y: The Last Man is based on a DC comic written by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra that ran from 2002-2008. The comic explores the story of an international event that wipes out every male mammal on Earth, sparing only one man, Yorick Brown, and his pet monkey. The new TV series, produced by FX on Hulu and directed by a set of female directors, stars Ben Schnetzer as Yorick Brown and Diane Lane as Congresswoman Jennifer Brown.

The show has been in production since 2015, but has been met with a number of obstacles, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. The original pilot was completed in 2018 with a slightly different cast and script, though this was eventually scrapped. However, with the increasing popularity of television adaptations of legendary comic books, this may be the perfect moment for Y to enter the playing field.

Mike Dean Explains Why Kanye West Was On The Phone With During “DONDA” Party

We’re once again stuck waiting on Kanye West to drop an album that may or may not ever see the light of day. Most Kanye fans are used to him pre-maturely announcing albums (i.e. Turbo Grafx 16) but with DONDA, it’s been an unusual process, even for him. Two weeks ago, the rapper announced that he’d be holding a release party at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. And while Def Jam confirmed this to be true, we ultimately found out that ‘Ye needed another few weeks to work on it.

A second listening party was hosted on Thursday with promises that DONDA would be on streaming services on Friday at midnight. Of course, that didn’t happen but fans did enjoy the revamped version of the album which included several new songs. ‘Ye was center stage with mosh pits surrounding him but there were several moments during the listening party where Kanye hopped on the phone. In fact, it looked like he was screaming into the phone. It seemed like it could’ve very well been a part of the show but turns out, he was really on the phone.

Mike Dean took to Twitter this morning where he revealed that he was the one who was on the phone with Kanye West who apparently was giving him an earful about the mix. A fan tweeted photo of Kanye yelling into the phone with the caption reading, “Make sure Mike Dean locked up in that room. We not finished yet!” Dean replied, “He was actually calling me from a mix mistake!! Lol.”

Apparently, there was still more work that needs to be done on the album. The unfortunate part is that we still haven’t received an update on when the album will actually drop.

Instagram Gallery: Jack Harlow’s Adventures In Rap

Twenty-three-year-old Jack Harlow is quickly finding his way in the game after a year of back-to-back hit singles. The rising rap star is now often seen with some of the biggest names in hip hop, whether it be at the studio or on the court. His networking skills have also proven to translate to his songs, most notably the “What’s Poppin” remix, with features from DaBaby, Tory Lanez, and Lil Wayne. Another high-profile collaboration from his debut album “Best Friends,” featuring Chris Brown, topped the charts for months.

Last month, Jack humbly stated he feels “blessed to have a voice as a white man “who is not a street artist.” This attitude has earned him praise from one of the game’s long-respected OGs, in Snoop Dogg. Jack dubbed the compliment as one of the greatest moments of his career— rightfully so.

With a tour coming up in the fall, and a new banger he just dropped with Pooh Shiesty, Jack Harlow seems to be securing his stardom for the long haul.

This proud Kentuckian has definitely been adopted by the game, as evidence below.

Kurupt To be Honored With Street In Hometown Near Philadelphia

Among the catalog of OG emcees in the history of West Coast rap, Kurupt finds his place with good reason among the more obvious contemporaries like Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Tupac among others.

The Death Row Records mainstay rose to prominence via Tha Dogg Pound, contributing to cuts like “What Would You Do?” and albums like Dogg Food.

This weekend, however, Kurupt’s legacy is honored across the country on the East Coast as the rapper, born Ricardo Brown Jr., will have a street bearing his name at the intersection of Clifton Avenue and Roosevelt in Philadelphia where he was born in 1972.

“It’s not often something like this happens,” Kurupt told HipHopDX. “We’re from a small part of this Philadelphia situation. We’re on the outskirts of Philly in Darby Township. All my family’s in Philly. I was bouncing back and forth between Philly and here in Darby Township, Sharon Hill. So I was bouncing back and forth, and these are just my stomping grounds. This is what made the MC. California made me the man.”

Kurupt now finds himself among Hip-Hop legends who lived long enough to see their name bear such an honor. We’re family with the string if deceased rappers who were honored in similar ways, but to be in attendance is a rarity.

“It means the world,” he added. “I’m totally shocked. God blessed me with the talent. God gave me the opportunities. God is good.”

Asian Doll Reveals She’s Still Struggling Emotionally After King Von’s Death

It was only nine months ago yesterday that Chicago rapper King Von was tragically shot and killed at the age of 26. Asian Doll, Von’s girlfriend at the time, has been an open book during the grieving process. She’s aired out her emotions on Twitter and oftentimes, takes to social media to reminisce on the times they shared together. Today, Asian Doll shares a series of heartbreaking tweets where she expressed just how much she’s still grieving the death of Von.

“Bro I will give up everything just to have 1 more conversation with von shid even a hug,” she wrote this morning. After nine months, it seems the loss hasn’t gotten any easier for her.

The following tweets established themselves as more of a cry for help. Asian Doll described the depression she’s dealt with in recent months and the lingering feeling of losing someone extremely close. “Ever felt like you wanna die?” she wrote, followed by, “Extremely hurt & lost.”

“Nothing has ever broken me but this right here breaking me into pieces I hope one day I stop feeling like this,” she shared in a subsequent tweet. Fans rushed to her side with encouraging replies and tips for how to get through the healing process. One user offered some words of wisdom on the grieving process. “Grief comes in waves babe. One day you’ll feel okay and one day you’ll feel like you’re drowning. I watched two women burry their husbands and the pain you feel is very real! It’s especially hard when the passing of your loved one is unexpected,” the tweet read.

Our hearts are with Asian Doll.

Elton John Covered BTS’ ‘Permission To Dance’ While Showing Love To The Band

Weeks after releasing their summer song “Butter,” BTS returned with their third single of the year, “Permission To Dance.” The song is co-written by Ed Sheeran and Snow Patrol and it’s been a favorite of many. One of them is Elton John, who hopped on Twitter to share a cover of the track.

In the video, Elton John takes on the song’s chorus, singing, “When the nights get colder, and the rhythms got you falling behind,” before adding, “Thanks BTS, and Love to the ARMY.” His cover also seems to be a response to a video of BTS’ RM singing the part on “Permission To Dance” that says, “When it all seems like it’s wrong, just sing along to Elton John.” After RM completes the line, he swipes the camera away as if Elton John was beside him to continue the song. Only hours after uploading the video, John uploaded his.

The cover arrives after BTS earned the longest-running No. 1 song of the year with “Butter,” which it continued to do just last week. Olivia Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” previously held the title for the longest-running chart-topper of this year.

You can watch the videos from BTS’ RM and Elton John above.

O.J. Simpson Avoids L.A Because He May Be “Sitting Next” To Wife’s Real Killer

O.J. Simpson isn’t the biggest fan of Los Angeles. According to him, since his acquittal for the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and friend Ron Goldman, he has had “trouble” with the city where the murders took place.

Speaking with The Athletic which recently ranked the running back the No. 41 best football player in history, he touched on the city which was miles away from San Francisco where he played for the 49ers.

“I have trouble with LA,” OJ said in the article. “People may think this is self-serving, but I might be sitting next to whoever did it. I really don’t know who did this.”

While Simpson was infamously found not guilty of the murders in criminal court in 1995, he was found responsible for the deaths of Brown Simpson and Goldman in civil court the same year.

Speaking with Tim Graham, however, Simpson maintains that he has no idea who committed the murders.

“I figured eventually somebody would confess to something, you know?” he added. “I had one suspect I told my lawyers to look at. I still think he might be involved, but I can’t talk about it.”

In 2017, Simpson was released after serving nine years for armed robbery and kidnapping convictions. He tells The Athletic that he has a “good life” post-prison

Sada Baby Unleashes New Project “The Lost Tapes”

It’s been an interesting year for Sada Baby who went from one of the most promising voices of Detroit to being a victim of cancel culture. Regardless of the Internet’s outrage, the rapper’s hustle has remained in tact. He’s continued to flood the streets with new music, largely on YouTube without DSP versions available. Fans are still loving everything he’s cooking up.

This week, the rapper returned with his latest body of work, The Lost Tapes. With 13 songs in total, Sada Baby handles the entirety of the project on his own without any features.

The new project from Sada Baby serves as his first official project of 2021 and his follow-up to Bartier Bounty 2

Fredo Drops Off “Independence Day”

UK drill rapper Fredo has been keeping his foot on the gas this year. He kicked off the year with the release of his project, Money Can’t Buy Happiness — a crossover effort that found the London rapper swapping bars with many mainstays in the UK drill scene, along with a few American counterparts.

On Friday, the rapper delivered his second body of work of the year, Independence Day. This time around, he holds down the fort largely on his own with a few exceptions. Headie One is tapped for “Wandsworth To Bullingdon,” while other artists like Potter Payper, SUS, and Clavish also make appearances on the tracklist.
