MoneyBagg Yo Enlists Lil Durk & EST Gee On “Switches & Dracs”

MoneyBagg Yo, Lil Durk and EST Gee have been three of the brightest stars in hip-hop in 2021.

MoneyBagg, riding the success of smash hit “Wockesha,” dropped A Gangsta’s Pain back in April and until Drake dropped Certified Lover Boy in September, it was the best selling rap album of the year. Hopping on 50 Cent’s BMF theme song with Snoop Dogg, the Memphis rapper has had one hell of a year, and outside of any sales or acknowledgements from rap legends, MoneyBagg’s greatest accomplishment in 2021 might be solidifying Memphis as one of the hottest cities in modern hip-hop.

And honestly, the only reason MoneyBagg isn’t rap’s man of the year is because of Lil Durk. Durk has had the best run in all of rap in 2021. From Voice of the Heroes to every. single. feature verse, the Chicago rapper has not missed.

So when Yo announced that A Gangsta’s Pain: Reloaded was set to drop with seven new songs tacked on, “Switches & Dracs” became a focal point of attention. Not just because of a new Durk feature, but also because of an appearance from EST Gee, the Louisville rapper who has had a decent 2021 himself, signing with Yo Gotti early in the year and rubbing elbows with Jay-Z along the way.

“Switches & Dracs,” a two-minute effort which finds MoneyBagg, Durk and Gee trading intense bars about getting rid of their opps and keeping the fakes away from them, might be the toughest rap song of the year. All three rappers come correct and paint themselves as three of the best in the game. With a reference to fellow 2021 standout, Pooh Shiesty, Gee cleans up after MoneyBagg and Lil Durk get done bodying some ominous, piano-driven production and leaves us wanting to press that back button just to hear the song again.

Quotable Lyrics
Boy, your life gon’ cost a ‘Vette, all that woofin’ on the net
Tell your big brother, “He next,” trappin’, fittin’, don’t know how to cap
My big bro had told me, “Chill and rap”, I’m like, “F*ck all that”
N****s want that smoke until their lungs collapsed, I turn my hood Iraq
Hurry now, we got-got switches on it with a drum attached
SLS, n***a, try turn to a jet, ain’t no outrunnin’ that
Rep like they killed Red, what I do? Flew to the crib
And spin again and spin again and spin again ’til somethin’ dead

Gabby Petito & Brian Laundrie’s Last Known Photos Together Show Them Touring A National Park

For the past several weeks, the names of Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie have been all over the news. It was revealed that the 22-year-old was killed by strangulation after her remains were found in a Wyoming park back in September.

Although he was never named a suspect, Laundrie was the main person of interest in his fiancée’s death, with suspicion only rising after he disappeared from his family’s home in Florida, having returned from a road trip with Petito’s van, but without Petito.

TMZ has obtained what they believe to be the last known photos of the couple, reportedly taken back in August while they were exploring Arches National Park in Utah. The pictures show Laundrie laughing while Petito hydrates, and the two of them touring the Delicate Arch.

“We decided to take the path less travelled on the other side of the arch,” the late YouTuber captioned her Instagram post from August 12th. “While [Brian] climbed down some steep slopes with the camera, I shimmed my way along a thin flat narrow line that led directly to a big flat rock with the absolute most beautiful view from directly underneath the arch.”

Petito shared several photos to her feed from Arches National Park, including one of she and Laundrie kissing while seated near the Delicate Arch.

Yesterday, it was confirmed via dental records that human remains discovered in a Florida reserve not far from Brian’s home belonged to the wanted man. The FBI and local officials have received several tips that Laundrie was reportedly seen biking on back roads and hiking the Appalachian trail, but now that they’ve found a body, the next step is to identify exactly how the deceased passed.

Cardi B Reviews Megan Thee Stallion’s Hottie Sauce, Says It’s “Bomb”

Ever since Travis Scott’s game-changing McDonald’s collaboration last year, musicians and fast-food chains have been linking up to create limited-time meals and specials for their fans. Earlier this year, Saweetie released “The Saweetie Meal” in collaboration with McDonald’s, while other stars like Nelly and Anitta have side-stepped the golden arches and teamed up with Burger King.

Now, Houston artist Megan Thee Stallion — who is set to drop a fiery freestyle project next week — has partnered with a fan-favorite fast-food franchise as well, but rather than coming up with her own meal, the “Thot Shit” rapper has teamed up with Popeye’s to offer her own special hot sauce, affectionately known by her fans as the Hottie Sauce

As with any exciting food collaboration, Hip-Hop fans have been flocking to Popeyes to taste Megan Thee Stallion’s sauce, and it turns out that Cardi B couldn’t wait to try her Hottie Sauce either. In a video reposted by DJ Akademiks, the “Wild Side” rapper can be seen touching an opened packet of Meg’s Popeye’s sauce and giving an honest review of it.

“Bomb,” Cardi B declares immediately. “It smells and it feels like it’s gonna hit you like [Louisiana] hot sauce. But then it goes to a different world, like a sweet and sour with-“

Although the video randomly cuts out before viewers can hear her complete review, fans likely got the gist that Cardi is a fan of Megan Thee Stallion’s Hottie Sauce. Watch the video for yourself below.

However, fans also noticed that Cardi B pronounced Louisiana like “Luciana,” and of course, they’ve taken the opportunity to playfully roast the “Up” rapper.

All jokes aside, have you tried Megan Thee Stallion’s Hottie Sauce at Popeye’s yet? If so, let us know in the comments if it lives up to the hype.

Majid Jordan Grabs OVO Leader Drake For “Stars Align”

Ever since Majid Jordan appeared on Nothing Was The Same‘s “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” the duo consisting of Toronto singers Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman have re-appeared on Drake projects and have hit on every single feature.

Now it’s time for the Certified Lover Boy to return the favor.

Appearing on “Stars Align,” the third track off the duo’s brand-new albumWildest Dreams, Drizzy gets deep in his R&B bag, singing to a special someone about everything from their appearance online to their Aries star sign. Lacing silky vocals over production reminiscent of “Feel No Ways,” Drake skates over the first half of the track before passing the mic to Majid Jordan to handle the record’s final verse.

Meshing elegant melody and lustful emotion, “Stars Align” is the perfect example of Jordan and Drake at their very best. From lyrics about the realities of dating and loving in 2021 to beautiful deliveries from all three OVO Sound artists, everything comes together perfectly and, as falls continues to race by, “Stars Align” will usher in winter with the grace it deserves.

Quotable Lyrics
Freaky girl, Aries sign
I’m gonna try and get it right this time
I just really need a place and time
I was just starin’ at your face online
I wanna rock right now if it’s time
I just did a double and it tasted fine
Can’t afford no more wasted time

Still, finna hit him if he run away
I heard a couple hunnid on my soul
But they see me and look the other way

“Rust” Director Joel Souza Reportedly Released From Hospital Following Deathly Shooting On Set

Yesterday evening, we reported that a tragic accident had occurred on the set of an upcoming Western movie called Rust, starring Alec Baldwin as the grandfather of a 13-year-old boy who’s been sentenced to hang after committing an accidental murder. Baldwin reportedly fired a prop gun on set that wound up killing director of photography, Halyna Hutchins, and injuring director Joel Souza.

Early this morning, actress Frances Fisher, who plays the New York actor’s sister in Rust, shared via Twitter that Souza has since been released from the hospital. “Those quotes are incorrect. And our director Joel Souza is out of hospital,” she tweeted @shannonrwatts.

“I don’t subscribe to the daily beast so if that’s what they’re saying, they are wrong. Will you please correct them?”

“The entire cast and crew has been absolutely devastated by today’s tragedy, and we send our deepest condolences to Halyna’s family and loved ones,” Rust Movie Productions LLC said in a statement after the news broke.

“We have halted production on the film for an undetermined period of time and are fully cooperating with the Santa Fe Police Department’s investigation. We will be providing counselling services to everyone connected to the film as we work to process this awful event.”

Hutchins unfortunately passed away after being airlifted from Santa Fe New Mexico’s Bonanza Creek Ranch to a hospital. She was just 42 years old. RIP.

Word of the accidental shooting has shaken up both film lovers and those who work in the industry, with several people bringing up that Brandon Lee (son of Bruce Lee) was killed while filming The Crow back in 1993 in a similar manner.

Stay tuned to HotNewHipHop for the latest updates in the tragic incident.

Young Thug “PUNK” Review

When Young Thug burst onto the scene in 2014 with “Stoner” and “Danny Glover,” rap fans had no way of knowing what would happen over the next seven years. They had no idea that Thugger, already signed to Gucci Mane’s 1017 Brick Squad and a part of Birdman’s Rich Gang, would transform from the rapper with the wild voice and even wilder fashion choices, to one of the genre’s foremost pioneers.

Between those eccentric fashion choices, and his ability to mold his voice to fit what seems like any sound, Young Thug has proven, time and time again, to be one of the most versatile rappers in the game. From the Slime Season mixtape series, which saw him at the peak of his rapping powers, to the country-inspired Beautiful Thugger Girls, to his beloved first studio album, So Much Fun, it has become crystal clear that there is no musical experiment too extreme for Young Thug.

So when the Atlanta rapper announced that his new album would be called PUNK, and he and Gunna celebrated the album’s release by completely destroying a Rolls Royce, an album full of angst and skateboard vibes seemed inevitable.

Or so we thought.

young thug punk album review

From PUNK’s artwork, inspired by Octavio Ocampo’s “Forever Always,” to its acoustic-heavy production, Jeffrey’s second studio album serves largely as a narrative of his life and his place as a bonafide superstar and leader of both his real-life family and YSL Records.

In a Complex interview released just days before PUNK’s arrival on October 15, the “Digits” rapper said he wanted to simplify things. “PUNK is just real life stories,” he told Complex. “The whole album is just focused on one point.”

Following “Die Slow,” on which Young Thug tells the story of getting his brother, Unfoonk, out of serving a life sentence in prison, as well as the harrowing tale of his mother having a stroke after getting run over by a speeding car, records like “Stressed,” “Stupid/Asking” and “Contagious” fall right in line. Where he may have previously rapped about which designer piece he was going to buy next or littered every track with mind-bending ad-libs, PUNK finds Thugger speaking on the stresses of taking care of everyone around him, especially knowing that the same type of care may never be reciprocated.

On “Contagious,” Young Thug proclaims, “I wish that keeping it real really was contagious, ‘cause I be showing love, always met with fake sh*t, but that’s what’s in my heart, I could never change it.” That paranoia is a common thread throughout the entire project. From PUNK’s first five songs, which all feature acoustic production and subdued lyrical deliveries, to the 14th track, “Faces,” where Thugger shifts his skepticism from two-faced family members, to the women in his life, rapping “She got her hair long with the Maisons on, no basic, got me thinking everybody ‘round me cheatin’,” it’s clear that the YSL founder doesn’t know who to trust. But because Young Thug is Young Thug, no amount of paranoia or questioning intentions will slow him down.

Closing out “Faces” with the simple message, “No back and forth with them opps, or them nothin’-a** h*es,” this is where some legitimate “punk” attitude shines through. While much of PUNK comes across as more reserved than previous projects, the “Hot” rapper exudes as much confidence as ever. In the face of adversity and untrustworthiness, Young Thug puffs out his chest and lets us all know he’s going to get the most out of life, regardless of who or what tries to stop him. And while tracks like “Road Ragin’,” and “Droppin Jewels,” solo efforts on which Thugger raps at length about getting to the money and giving his children advice about how to make it in this cruel world, do take a stance against “the system,” the album’s most “punk” moments come with the help of PUNK’s featured artists.

On “Rich N***a Sh*t,” Thug and the late Juice WRLD follow up their January 2021-released collab, “Bad Boy,” and over a harsh-but-hype Pi’erre Bourne beat, the pair spits aggressively about doing anything they want, simply because they can afford to do so. On “Livin’ It Up,” highlighted by a lively Post Malone hook, and a rare A$AP Rocky feature verse, Thugger and his counterparts sound like they’re sitting around a campfire singing at the stars, while they take a moment to celebrate everything they have accomplished — still they acknowledge that “it’s just never enough.” And on “Scoliosis,” Thug and Lil Double 0 go crazy over a Kuttabeatz instrumental, spitting with a flow reminiscent of his 2015 Barter 6 mixtape. (While PUNK features more storytelling than other Thug projects, there are a handful of classic one-liners littered throughout the album, including “I lost my virginity into Amanda, all these f*ckin’ yellow diamonds, Tropicana” off “Yea Yea Yea,” and “I called my watch stupid ‘cause the time froze,” off “Fifth Day Dead”)

Gunna makes three appearances on PUNK, with his signature dripping-in-designer-and-VVS-diamonds bars, but also with a handful of more grown-up bars, giving some light stock market advice on “Insure My Wrist” and commenting on the struggles Black people face in America on “Recognize Real.” J. Cole, who delivers the record’s best guest verse on “Stressed,” echoes Thugger’s sentiments about success in the rap game and the real-life tension that comes with it.

While many of PUNK’s guest appearances bolster the record, the necessity of others is up for debate. In the aforementioned Complex interview, Jeffrey said that the album was all about one thing, and detailed the difficulties of staying in just one lane. “The hard part about this sh*t is making 12, 14, 16 songs about one thing, without crossing up and saying the same thing.”

But PUNK contains 20 songs. And while appearances from Drake, Travis Scott, and Doja Cat are always welcome, tracks like “Bubbly” and “Icy Hot” are almost certainly included for streaming and playlist purposes. “Icy Hot,” which sees Thugger and Doja coming together on a Playboi Carti-esque hook and verses with lines like, “He said I’m wifey type, he throw dick like bouquet,” don’t necessarily fit PUNK’s overarching message. And even though Scott skates all over some bass-heavy, quintessential Wheezy production and Drizzy slides through with an endless barrage of quotables perfect for a slimy IG caption, their appearances stand out in artistic contrast among a record full of straightforward storytelling.

“Hate The Game,” PUNK’s second-to-last track, is the most “punk” sounding record on the entire album, with Thug rapping about having sex on the first night and never calling again over a 2000s pop-punk inspired instrumental. But Future’s hook from “Peepin Out The Window,” best describes the project as a whole. “Peepin’ out the window,” Young Thug’s “Super Slimey” collaborator raps. “All I see is a bunch of opps trying to rise from the dead, wanna smoke me like I’m Indo.”

PUNK, Young Thug’s second studio album, is not a “punk” album. It’s a presentation of his evolution as an artist, and as a person. From blunt smoke wafting over Italian waters on “Die Slow” to the soft-spoken, Mac Miller-assisted “Day Before,” PUNK puts lyrical content in front of sonic creativity.

Gunna & Chlöe Spotted At Hawks Game Together, Sparking Dating Rumors

It feels like every time a celebrity pairing decides to hang out in public, dating rumors begin to swirl around the internet the following day. That’s precisely what’s happening, once again, with Atlanta rapper Gunna and Beyoncé’s protégé Chlöe.

On Thursday night, Gunna and Chlöe Bailey were spotted together at the Atlanta Hawks game. They were seated right next to each other and fans are thinking that this might have been their first date. After all, a few weeks ago, Gunna publicly lusted over Chlöe’s mic-licking moment during a performance, re-posting a photo of her seemingly simulating fellatio on her microphone.

Fans have been reacting to the photos of them together at the game, joking that Gunna could end up becoming the JAY-Z to Chlöe’s Beyoncé. Others are commenting on how the date didn’t look to be particularly fun, noting how Gunna looked to be unenthused some of the time. Some people are already envisioning how Chlöe will shut down these dating rumors, recalling her “wonderful fella” comment about Future a few weeks ago when they were linked in rumors.

While they could just be friends, or simply getting to know each other more, it looks like Gunna and Chlöe aren’t shy about making any public appearances together. Do you think they’re cuffed up for the winter? Let us know if you think they make a nice couple.
