Lil Nas X made a surprise appearance during Diplo’s set at the Electric Daisy Carnival music festival in Las Vegas, Saturday night. The Montero rapper performed several of his biggest hits including “Industry Baby,” “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” and even his classic, “Old Town Road.”

“Thank you Diplo, thank you EDC,” Nas told the crowd. “I love you guys.”

Other performers at the festival included The Chainsmokers, Alesso, Oliver Heldens, Deadmau5, Eric Prydz, Duke Dumont, Snakehips, and more.

The surprise set capped off a likely tiring weekend for Nas, which included being the target of a homophobic tirade from Boosie Badazz on Twitter, Saturday. The vitriolic comments included several slurs and references to suicide.

Boosie had been upset about Nas claiming to have made a song with him, during an Instagram live stream.

In response to the comments, Nas joked: “i am truly saddened. i have never been so mortified in my life. i can’t believe disney channel has yet to play halloween town this entire october.”

Nas’ latest album, Montero, was released in September and features Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, and more.

“Dune” Draws $40 Million At Box Office Keeping Sequel Hopes Alive

Despite releasing simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune drew $40.1 million at the box office in its opening weekend, keeping hope for a sequel alive. The sci-fi epic is an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s legendary 1965 book of the same name.

“This was a tremendous result as we’re ramping out of the pandemic,” Jeff Goldstein, distribution chief for Warner Bros, told the Associated Press. “Once we get out of the pandemic, if we have a movie like this, clearly you’d want to go into theaters first. There’s no question of that.”

“Denis made an extraordinary movie and fans are enthusiastically appreciating it and spreading excellent word of mouth,” Goldstein told Deadline.

Notably, Dune is simply part one of a broader story, as Villeneuve decided to gamble on the success of a first film in the hope that he’d be offered funding for a sequel, rather than cram the entire story into a single movie.

“It’s a very awkward position I’m in right now,” Villeneuve said in a Zoom call for the Venice Film Festival. “It’s true that I did just half of a movie. It’s a crazy way to do things … It’s like doing half of a painting or half of a symphony and saying, Wait, everybody, we’ll continue in two years … But those movies are very expensive to make, and I agreed with the deal to do the first part. It’s a gamble.”

Dune’s star-studded cast includes Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, and more.

Earlier this week, Snoop sent a video to Dr. Dre in an effort to spread positive energy after Dre lost a family member of his own.

He told Dre: “They say Snoop Dogg is an icon, he’s a God, he’s a king, but there’s one n***a to honor, and that’s you. So you get your shit right and focus on being great. Take all that negative energy, all that shit that you dealing with: the death, the fucking lawsuits, all that shit, put it all in your mind and your spirit and make something magical, n***a.”

As for the fight, the 24-year-old Stevenson defeated Jamel Herring with a 10th-round TKO to secure the WBO 130-pound championship.

“I smelled blood,” Stevenson said after the fight, according to ESPN. “I saw he was bleeding and was like, ‘OK, I have to attack the cut.’ I was trying to touch the cut to make the doctor try and stop it.”

Besides attending boxing matches, West and Prince are also working together to help Larry Hoover, the co-founder of Gangster Disciples.

“IF YOU FAIL TO PLAN YOU PLAN TO FAIL,” Prince wrote on Instagram, earlier this month. “Good plans in the making to free our brother Larry Hoover with the support of @champagnepapi and @kanyewest #TheArtandScienceOfRespect.”

ASAP Rocky Will Put ‘Live.Love.ASAP’ On Streaming Platforms In Time For Its Tenth Anniversary

ASAP Rocky’s rap career received a huge boost in 2011 when he released his debut mixtape Live.Love.ASAP. It was celebrated as one of the best mixtapes from that time period, boasting fan favorites like “Peso” and “Purple Swag.” It also helped him secure a record deal with RCA and Polo Grounds, leading to his debut album, entitled Long.Live.ASAP, which he released two years later and which spawned hits like “F*ckin’ Problems,” with Drake, 2 Chainz, and Kendrick Lamar. Nearly ten years later, Rocky announced something big for its upcoming anniversary.

HighSnobreity reports that the mixtape will hit platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and Tidal on October 29, just two days before its tenth anniversary. Rocky joins a cadre of artists who have uploaded their old mixtapes or unofficial releases to streaming platforms years after they were released. The most recent example is Mac Miller’s Faces, which debuted at No. 3 on the albums chart nearly two weeks after it was re-released. Others include Drake, who added his mixtape So Far Gone to DSPs. Joey Badass (1999), Chance The Rapper (Acid Rap), Wiz Khalifa (Kush & OJ), The Weeknd (House Of Balloons), and more have also done similar things.

The news comes after Rocky connected with Houston rapper Maxo Kream for “Streets Alone.”

Lil Nas X Was A Surprise Guest During Diplo’s Set At Electric Daisy Carnival In Vegas

Riding high off the success of his debut album, Montero, Lil Nas X is everywhere these days. And this weekend, everywhere included an appearance at Electric Daisy Carnival in Las vegas, where the young rapper was a surprise guest during Diplo’s set. Of course, with all the great press comes some backlash too — Boosie Badazz issued a bizarre homophobic rant against Nas yesterday after the “Call Me By Your Name” singer playfully suggested he had a song with Boosie.

Since he was too busy getting on stage in front of a massive crowd at EDC — where he performed “Industry Baby,” “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and his first big hit, “Old Town Road” — he hasn’t said much in response to the rapper’s attack. Nas is a very progressive artist and one of the most openly queer performers to hit mainstream music for quite some time, making out with a man onstage at the VMAs and constantly advocating for LGBTQ acceptance.

Diplo previously remixed “Old Town Road” and was joined by Nas and Billy Ray Cyrus to perform the remix when he performed a DJ set at the country music festival Stagecoach. Lately the producer has been in the news for sexual battery and assault allegations, which he’s dismissed as extortion.

Young Thug Earns His Second Solo No. 1 Album Thanks To ‘Punk’

Two years after he first announced it, Young Thug shared his sophomore album, Punk, earlier this month, boasting appearances from Travis Scott, J. Cole, Future, Mac Miller, Juice WRLD, Post Malone, ASAP Rocky, Gunna, and more. Sonically, it was much different than his debut album So Much Fun, which arrived in the summer of 2019. The album was received well by its listeners, so much so that it hit No. 1 on the album charts in its first week.

Punk debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart dated October 30 thanks to the 90,000 album units it sold in its first week. Of this number, streaming equivalents album units comprised 77,000 of the total sales while 12,000 accounted for pure album sales. It’s Thug’s second solo album to reach the top spot after So Much Fun did so in 2019. It’s also his third overall album to go No. 1, after his Slime Language 2 compilation album, released by his Young Stoner Life label, topped the chart earlier this year.

Elsewhere, Drake’s former No. 1 album, Certified Lover Boy, checks in at No. 2, and Mac Miller’s 2014 mixtape, Faces, appears at No. 3 after the late rapper’s estate re-released it onto streaming platforms.

You can revisit our review of Punk here.

Young Thug Earns Third No. 1 On Billboard 200 After “Punk” Debut

Young Thug’s Punk sold 90,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. during its first week following release, landing it at No.1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The new release marks Thug’s third No. 1 album with So Much Fun and Young Stoner Life: Slime Language 2 also earning the honor.

Thug’s debut atop the chart wasn’t without its challenges. Even over one month after release, Drake’s Certified Lover Boy still put up a fight, bringing in 83,000 equivalent album units. Mac Miller’s Faces reissue finished at No. 3 with 67,000 equivalent album units.

Punk was boosted by features from several of the biggest names in the rap game including A$AP Rocky, J. Cole, Doja Cat, Drake, Future, Gunna, Juice WRLD, Post Malone, Mac Miller, Nate Ruess, and Travis Scott.

Despite Thug’s impressive outing, DJ Akademiks recently said that finishing with less than 100,000 sales shows that he isn’t a “big dawg.”

“Btw I’m honest as I said .. any artist who don’t sell 100K ain’t a big dawg! Even thug,” Akademiks wrote on Twitter, last week. “I look at thug as an exec tryna push YSL than consider his solo efforts sort of where Rick Ross was at when he started pushing MMG more than his own music. Thug still a legend but #s don’t lie.”

Domani Details “Craziest Story” Of Protecting His Sisters From Trespasser

T.I.’s oldest son, Domani, appeared on the Big Facts Podcast with Big Bank and Baby Jade, over the weekend, and detailed a time when he had to step up and protect his sisters when someone trespassed on their property.

“The craziest story,” he recalled. “I think someone told this before but boom, we at the house, the lake house, this is the house that’s on TV. I was sleep. I was sleeping late, it was like 12, 1 p.m. 2 p.m. or something and Deyjah woke me up yelling, ‘Domani! Domani! Some dude’s outside trying to get in and Pops is beating him up! I was like, ‘Whoa!’

He explained that he was unsure what to do at first because he couldn’t tell if his sister was being serious or trying to play a prank on him. Eventually, he went downstairs to investigate.

Domani continued: “I’m like, ‘What happened?’ Turns out, some dude came and jumped over the gate and he was throwin’ little pebbles and something at the window. Deyjah opened the window and was like, ‘What are you doing?’ He was tripped out! He threw his wallet at the window for whatever reason. His ID was in there … it’s a lot.”

“She went and told Pops and he woke up and went outside with his slippers on … it’s some video somewhere of this man kicking this man with these slippers on the ground!,” Domani said. “It was crazy, he said, ‘Jump back over the fence!’ And he did and I was sleep – and it was like [Friday After Next] when Santa come and Mike Epps sleep? That’s how it was like.”

Drake Celebrated His 35th Birthday With A Narcos-Themed Party Featuring YG, Future, Jack Harlow, And More

Just a month removed from the release of his sixth album Certified Lover Boy, Drake recently had another reason to celebrate, that being his 35th birthday. The rapper officially celebrates a new year of life today, but he got the festivities going a day early with a party in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

The event took place in the city’s Goya Studios and the theme of the night was Narcos as it found some guests like YG, Future, and the rapper’s dad Dennis Graham following it while others like Offset, French Montana, and Jack Harlow kept it casual for the night.

The birthday event comes after Certified Lover Boy spent a fourth non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the album charts. It’s one of eight albums in 2021 to spend multiple weeks atop the charts and it comes after the project spent three straight weeks at No. 1. Including Drake’s album, only four projects have spent a total of three weeks atop the chart year: Taylor Swift’s Evermore, Billie Eilish’s Happier Than Ever and Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album.

Drake also made a surprise appearance during J. Cole’s The Off-Season Tour and called the Dreamville artist “one of the greatest rappers” in a brief speech during the show.

You can check out a video from the night above.
