Soulja Boy Allegedly Passed Up On Signing Young Thug

Soulja Boy’s record label SODMG has signed some interesting acts over the years (most recently he nabbed Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s son, Chet Hanks), but it’s hard to deny that the Chicago native has fumbled the bag a few times, to put it lightly.

While chatting with DJ Akademiks on the Off the Record podcast, Soulja revealed that he missed out on signing one of the biggest artists in the game right now, YoungBoy NeverBroke Again. The Baton Rouge native DM’d the “Crank That” rapper back in 2016, and earlier this week, he even pulled out receipts to prove that he “could have signed YB.”

As it turns out, that’s not the only artist the 31-year-old missed out on. During a BHigh TV interview, it was revealed that Soulja Boy allegedly shot down the opportunity to sign Young Thug. “I was working with Soulja Boy, and I was like ‘Thug, don’t worry, Imma get you out here with Soulja.’ I went to back to Soulja, I told him I had two people – I had Schoolie, and Young Thug that wanted to work with Soulja.”

“I brought Thug up to Soulja and he was like, ‘Man, nahhhhh. Blah, blah, blah.’ I’m like, ‘this dude is gonna be the biggest thing in Atlanta.’ I told him! And guess what Thug said. I went to him, and I told him and he said, ‘Don’t worry about it, I don’t need him. I’m gonna sign him one day.’ And look how big he is now, he could sign that boy!”

Knowing Soulja Boy, it likely won’t be long before the rapper heads onto social media to explain exactly why he passed up on Thugger.

Do you think the “Pretty Boy Swag” hitmaker missed out, or did he make the right decision in refusing Young Thug?

Bobby Shmurda Offers Explanation For “Zesty” Dance Moves

The calls for Bobby Shmurda’s release were finally answered earlier this year. The rapper was finally free, coming home to a private jet filled with women and a briefcase presumably filled with cash. It was a celebratory occasion for New York and hip-hop as a whole, but the rapper held off for a few months before releasing new music.

People weren’t immediately thrilled by his recent releases but beyond that, it was Bobby’s dance moves that left many scratching their heads. During a recent interview with DJ Akademiks, Bobby Shmurda offered a response to those questioning his “zesty” dance moves.

“We be laughin’ at that shit,” Shmurda said as Akademiks explained how his fans always send him videos of Bobby “twerking.” “You talkin’ ’bout the n***as or the girls? You talkin’ ’bout the n***as? It gotta be the n***as…. Alright, so those be the n***as that be like, ‘this n***a Bobby takin’ all the bitches, son. This n***a Bobby always fuckin’ on all the bitches.'”

He added, “Why if Chris Brown whine they ain’t say nothin’? Why if Beenie Man whine they don’t say nothin’?”

Akademiks explained that Bobby came into the game with dance moves, which was part of the appeal. However, people are less reluctant to embrace the moves since Shmurda’s always shirtless.

“N***as work out for n***as. When I was up in jail, I seen n***as workin’ out, right? And n***as like, ‘Yeah, son, I’m ready to knock somebody out.’ I be like, ‘this n***a trippin’,'” Bobby explained before mimicking the moves of someone lifting weights. “Get your ass away from me, n***a. I’m ready to knock some p*ssy out,” he added.

Dee Watkins Offers Optimism On “JPAY”

Florida’s self-proclaimed Problem Child has been producing a flurry of music throughout the year. The rapper offered a slew of new singles, including a collaboration with FCG Heem, along with two projects — Problem Child 3 and Not One Of Them. Both have showcased his strong songwriting that depicts the triumphs and struggles in his life. However, even with the influx of new music, Dee Watkins is keeping his foot on the neck of the rap game until the year comes to an end.

This week, he shared a brand new single titled, “JPAY.” With his fluid melodies ringing through warm piano chords, Dee Watkins reflects on the setbacks he’s faced and the wins he’s collected on his way to the top.

Quotable Lyrics
Hard times, that’s what made us
All I know is stay down and stay prayed up
Aye, you can’t lock us all up but you can’t break us
Long as I’m happy, I don’t care ’bout being famous

DaBaby Fell Off Stage & Lost $20,000 Diamond Ring During Las Vegas Performance

After being canceled due to his homophobic rant at Rolling Loud Miami earlier this year, DaBaby is making a triumphant return to the stage – sort of. Over the weekend, the “Babysitter” rapper was performing a show in Las Vegas when he wound up taking a tumble into the audience.

Instagram user @shaydaplugg recounted the events on their page, along with visual evidence. “Performing his hit song ‘VIBEZ’ at Drai’s @dababy fell off the stage. While he was in the crowd, fans ripped off his shirt. Then he tried to act like he fall was a part of the show.”

Apparently, as DaBaby was pulling off his ripped shirt, he lost his $20,000 diamond ring in the crowd, prompting security to conduct a thorough search of the area. “A female caught the ring and gave it to security. DaBaby allowed her to come on stage and put the ring back on his finger.”

When the patron of the show came on stage, the 29-year-old reportedly got down on one knee and sung Jagged Edge’s “Let’s Get Married” before blaming the fall that began the whole fiasco on his Louis Vuitton sneakers.

Seeing as the woman retuned DaBaby’s ring, several people online are saying that he rapper should’ve coughed up a couple hundred dollars (at least) to repay her for her kindness, while others have been joking that they would’ve “stuffed the ring in [their] wig” or put it “straight in [their] pocket.”

Do you think DaBaby should’ve paid for the woman’s kind deed, or is his serenade a fair trade for getting his costly treasure back?

Fredo Bang Shares New Track “Don’t Miss”

It’s been a rough year for Fredo Bang. However, the bounce back is already in motion. The rapper came into 2021 riding high off of the release of the “Top (Remix)” ft. Lil Durk before unloading a handful of other singles in anticipation of his next album. Unfortunately, some legal issues came into play and deterred him from his plans. He ultimately released Murder Made Me behind bars but he didn’t get to bask in its success the way he wanted to.

It’s only been a little over a week since Fredo Bang was released and it’s clear he’s not wasting any time. On Friday, the rapper unveiled a new song and video titled, “Don’t Miss.”

I run from the cops, boy, you know I’m elusive

Gucci & Xbox Team Up For Limited Edition $10,000 Series X Bundle

Rico Nasty Nearly Confronts Someone Who Threw A Bottle At Her During A Concert

Recently Rico Nasty hasn’t had the best time at shows. The musician is currently serving as an opening act on Playboi Carti’s Narcissist Tour, but concertgoers haven’t been treating her well. The most recent example occurred at a Portland, Oregon show, after someone allegedly threw a bottle at Rico. She quickly paused the show and said, “Who, b*tch?” while looking into the crowd for the culprit. “Be specific […] who was it? Who the f*ck was it? Who the f*ck was it? Where they going? Somebody come get this.”

Rico then jumped off the stage and attempted to climb into the crowd before she was pulled away by a member of her team.

This latest incident comes after Rico expressed her displeasure after she was booed during her performance in Los Angeles earlier this month. “This is what the f*ck we gon’ do for you disrespectful muthaf*ckers out there,” she said to concertgoers at the show. “B*tch, we gon’ sit in muthaf*ckin silence! Don’t you f*cking play! What you think this is, b*tch? It’s not that.”

Rico later expressed her grievances on Twitter. “Y’all mothers should have swallowed you little pissy frogs,” she wrote. “Anti black ass crowd. Weak ass little boys wit blonde pubes. Ugh. Get me out of here.” As for the Portland incident, Rico and Playboi Carti have yet to issue a response.

You can watch the incident in the video above.

Rico Nasty is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Smiley & Duvy Reflect On Making It On “Topic”

It’s officially Buy or Bye season. Smiley has slowly but surely been winning over the masses in the past few months. It was “Over The Top” that earned him his first Billboard Hot 100 placement but it was his work in Toronto that put him in that position in the first place. It seems that he’s extending these opportunities to fellow Toronto rappers who are on the cusp of blowing up from their city, as heard on Buy Or Bye 2 closer, “Topic.” Smiley connects with rising Toronto rapper Duvy for the muddy banger. Laced with haunting piano keys and looming 808s, Smiley and Duvy connect to discuss their rising status. Smiley reflects on bringing girls from L.A. to snowy Canada while Duvy offers a glimpse into loyalty and betrayal during his verse.

Peep the song below.

Quotable Lyrics
Cuttin’ work, Louis belt, OVO
Don’t have no friends in studio
I’m startin’ to check all the choosy hoes
This is my side I’ll only show
This is the shit that my brothers know
I take a L.A. bitch where it snows, Canada
Prada, it was a joke, don’t be mad at us

Travis Scott’s “Astroworld ” Album Sales Increase Following Festival Tragedy

Last week, just ahead of the Astroworld Festival, Travis Scott’s album of the same name sat at No. 50 on the Billboard 200, having moved up an expected 6 slots on the chart as anticipation for the festival and a pending release built up.

Now, in the aftermath of the tragedy that took place in Houston last weekend, a counterintuitive trend takes place as Scott’s Astroworld is slated to once again break the Top 40 of the Billboard 200 chart as Hits Daily Double reports that the album will reportedly go No. 38–an increase of 12 slots–selling just shy of 15,000 album equivalent units with a reported 14,666, with 617 accounting for pure album sales. Using rough math, tracks from the album were streamed at least 17 million times since the Astroworld Festival–and that’s the lowest possible estimate.

In all likelihood, the events that transpired at Astroworld probably sparked interest in Scott’s catalog. Other theories could also chalk this increase up to a legion of fans attempting to combat calls for “mute” Travis Scott, particularly on platforms like TikTok.

All the while, it’s unlikely that their fandom can save Scott from the onslaught of lawsuits already being tossed at the Houston entertainer and Astroworld promoter Live Nation. According to new reports, mostly requesting payment for damages and injuries suffered.

“The deadly crowd surge and its aftermath unfolded right in front of Webster and [Aubrey] Graham. Nonetheless, they continued their performance while medical personnel struggled to reach the numerous unconscious and injured concertgoers,” reads one suit from a festivalgoer, who also names Drake as a defendant.

The plaintiff, Niaara Goods, is suing for $1 million in damages.
