Maxwell Drops New Love Ballad “OFF”

In an era when artists like Drake and Kendrick Lamar transition seamlessly from genre to genre, sometimes on the same song, the lines between types of music are blurred. When done correctly, meshing genres is a great achievement. When done incorrectly, especially at a high volume, all music begins to sound the same. And when all music sounds the same, records with clear sonic and lyrical focus are breaths of fresh air

“Off,” a new single by R&B legend Maxwell, is a breath of fresh air.

A week after announcing a new partnership with record label BMG, the BLACKsummers’night singer released the first single from the upcoming blacksummers’NIGHT, the final record in its trilogy, which is reportedly set to release in 2022.

Over a heavy, slow instrumental with elements of funk littered throughout, Maxwell serenades his love interest with huge vocals reminiscent of the 1980s. “Off” is an unapologetic R&B record, and if it’s any sort of preview of what we can expect from Maxwell in 2022, fans should be very excited.

Quotable Lyrics
I’m shootin’ all my shots
I won’t miss them no
I’m givin’ all I
Never ever ever let this go

Lil Uzi Vert Refuses To Stop Concert Despite Fans Shouting That People Were Fainting

Unlike all of the artists that have stopped their shows in the last week to help control the crowd following the tragedy at Astroworld Festival, Lil Uzi Vert refused to stop his performance at Day N Vegas, telling his fans that he “doesn’t take breaks” despite cries from the audience that people were fainting.

Safety was a top priority at the Day N Vegas music festival this past weekend, which saw performances from Kendrick Lamar, Doja Cat, Roddy Ricch, Freddie Gibbs, and more. Lil Uzi Vert also performed at the show, but not all of his fans were happy with the rapper following his set after he told fans that if they were struggling in the crowd, they could leave.

When fans in one area of the crowd shouted at the rapper to stop performing and address safety issues after some people allegedly fainted, he said, “I don’t take no breaks. If it’s gettin’ bad, leave. If you ain’t gonna leave, stay.” In several videos circulating on social media, fans can be heard screaming at Uzi, telling him, “Stop the show, Uzi! You’re f*cked up, Uzi! There’s people f*cking fainting, bro!”

This happened directly before Uzi told festival organizers not to “stop his rage.” A computerized voice told the crowd to take several steps back to give people in the front of the stage room to move, and then Uzi’s set was cut short. He only performed a handful of songs after showing up thirty minutes late to his fifty-minute set.

Especially after what happened a few weeks ago at Astroworld, the optics of this are horrible. Despite no deaths or serious injuries having been reported from Day N Vegas, do you think Lil Uzi should have checked on the wellbeing of his fans rather than continuing to rage?

2FeetBino Enlists Young Nudy For “Can’t Contain”

Young Nudy may have came into the game alongside 21 Savage but he’s establishing his own empire outside of Slaughter Gang. The rapper launched PDE and expanded the roster with the signing of 2FeetBino, who has been on quite the run this year. Bino’s talents have shined on projects like A Story Never Told and Broken Dreams. However, with the string of singles he’s dropped over throughout the year, fans are hoping a new project is in the pipeline.

Bino and Nudy have now teamed up for their latest collaboration, “Can’t Contain.” Their laidback flows compliment Coupe’s spacey and dizzying production where they offer a depiction of the day in the life in the trap.

‘An Evening With Silk Sonic’ Displays High-Class Showmanship Through An Infectious Spectacle

The RX is Uproxx Music’s stamp of approval for the best albums, songs, and music stories throughout the year. Inclusion in this category is the highest distinction we can bestow, and signals the most important music being released throughout the year. The RX is the music you need, right now.

Silk Sonic’s origin story dates back to the European leg of Bruno Mars’ 24K Magic Tour. Anderson .Paak served as the opening act for the string of shows and it’s here that Silk Sonic’s funky, free-spirited roots were planted. More than four years later, the tourmates-turned-good-friends delivered what will undoubtedly be one of 2021’s most memorable albums with An Evening With Silk Sonic. This brief, but rich musical experience, is birthed out of a few things: Bruno and .Paak’s trajectory in their careers, the combination of their respective inspirations, and a schedule that was unexpectedly freed up due to the coronavirus pandemic.

An Evening With Silk Sonic is a unique spectacle that Bruno and .Paak were kind enough to release in a format that allows us to infinitely experience this magic. From the very moment that the curtains open and Bootsy Collins’ ethereal voice seeps out, Silk Sonic coasts with no regard for distractions and an incredible display of showmanship. Collins’ multiple appearances on An Evening With Silk Sonic are key as it’s an endorsement that requires both acknowledgment and respect. Bootsy Collins, who rose to fame beside James Brown, stands as one of the front names in funk’s history. That’s on top of inductions to the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame and Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as well as being recognized as one of the top bassists of all time.

That’s exactly what makes An Evening With Silk Sonic so special. The idea that a mere collection of jam sessions beautifully produced a body of work created in the glory of greats from the 1970s. “After Last Night,” which supplies help from Thundercat and Bootsy Collins, balances sensual and soulful with funky and yearnful. Bruno and .Paak lay stomach-flat with feet to the sky on cloud nine after an unforgettable experience with the woman of their dreams. “If I still had my phone, I’d call every girl I know / And tell them goodbye,” the duo sings blinded by love. “Cars, clothes, diamonds, and gold / Anything you want, any place you want.” This dramatic account of surefire love after one encounter is soon greeted with an equally-dramatic display of despair and sadness on “Smokin’ Out The Window” after both singers find out their newfound romance is nothing but a sham. That’s exactly how Silk Sonic’s show is supposed to be: exaggerated, hyperbolic, and melodramatic. It’s a quality that .Paak solidifies on that song. “Look here, baby I hope you find whatever it is that you need,” he says. “But I also hope your triflin’ ass is walking ‘round barefoot in these streets!”

The theatrics behind Silk Sonic’s new album, when taken from the viewpoint of Bruno and .Paak’s respective discographies, is a clash of 24K Magic and Yes Lawd!. The intentional blast to the past intertwines itself with dressed to the nines cockiness on An Evening With Silk Sonic. .Paak leads a ridiculously confident and infectiously good declaration of self-excellence on “Fly As Me,” one that also crowns a lucky woman with a top-notch title of her own. “I’m tryna love, is you gon’ love me back?” .Paak quips on the track. Towards the backend of the album, Silk Sonic gets lost in gambling and the other addicting aspects of Las Vegas on “777.” If you needed any proof that Bruno and .Paak could be the life of the party, “777” is both evidence of that and an enticing invitation to join them in some high-risk/high-reward fun.

A large part of Silk Sonic’s success lives behind the scenes. Critically-acclaimed producers and songwriters James Fauntleroy and D’Mile live within the notes of the album. Fauntleroy co-wrote three of the album’s nine songs while D’Mile co-wrote and co-produced each one in addition to delivering background vocals and contributions to the project’s instrumentation. Furthermore, Babyface’s contribution to “Put On A Smile,” a song dedicated to putting on a front through heartbreak, as well as that from others throughout the album, are notable in their own right. Together, they emphasize Bruno and .Paak’s strive to make An Evening With Silk Sonic as perfect and flawless as possible. The freedom of the album’s jam session contributes to the rawness and true spirit of the project while help from the industry’s best ensure that its rough edges aren’t too sharp.

Long story short, Silk Sonic did it. An Evening With Silk Sonic is fun, charismatic, and ambitious in all the best ways. Sure, the sonics of this project aren’t particularly new, but it’s a change in the wind direction in today’s R&B/soul landscape. And yes, maybe the album could’ve been a bit longer, but according to D’Mile every song Silk Sonic and company created appears on the album, except one. Bruno and .Paak gave us everything that had for their first collaborative effort. Soon enough, fans from all over will be able to spend an evening with Silk Sonic when the duo (hopefully) goes on tour. Once that comes to an end, An Evening With Silk Sonic will be capsuled as a moment in time for years to come. So let’s enjoy the great music and make room for the memories that will arrive with it because An Evening With Silk Sonic won’t be forever.

Beanz Puts Us On Cloud Nine With Her ‘Wake Me Up When I’m Dreaming’ Performance On ‘Uproxx Sessions’

Hailing from Reading, PA, talented rapper Beanz has already proved herself a force to be reckoned with. After flaunting her talent on a Netflix show and picking up a massive following with her off-the-cuff freestyles, Beanz now takes over the latest installment of Uproxx Sessions to deliver a captivating rendition of her recent single “Wake Me Up When I’m Dreaming.”

Beanz hit up Uproxx Studios for a performance of an inspiring track off her just-released album Tables Turn. The number kicks off with the strum of a hallow acoustic guitar before a revved-up beat drops. Beanz’s steady and methodical flow follows shortly thereafter. The rapper fires off verses about surpassing the exceptions of those who judge her — and brushing off haters as she rises to fame.

The swaggering rendition arrived after a busy year for Beanz. She originally gained popularity with an appearance on the Netflix series Rhythm + Flow in 2019, where she impressed the show’s judges — Cardi B, Chance The Rapper, and T.I. — with her hard-hitting freestyle. Since then, the rapper has been steadily dropping new tracks and sharing even more of her freestyles to social media. Now, the rapper is celebrating the release of her album Tables Turn, which features artists like Benny The Butcher, Dizzy Wright, and Eric Bellinger.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Addresses Supposed James Harden Beef

Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden seemed to have some bad blood over the last couple of years. With Giannis dissing James Harden during the All-Star game draft, fans felt like there was something happening between the two. It only got worse when Harden said he wishes he was seven feet tall so that he wouldn’t have to be so skilled at basketball. It felt like a shot at Giannis and from there, a rivalry was born, at least in the minds of NBA fans.

Recently, Giannis graced the cover of GQ and within the piece, it was revealed that Giannis had a Harden jersey on his wall at home. It was there that Giannis was asked whether or not he had an issue with the Nets star. As you will read, Giannis clearly doesn’t think anything of their exchanges.

Per GQ:

“He’s got a framed Blake Griffin Pistons jersey. He’s got one from Kevin Durant, and one from Steph Curry. James Harden—A lot of people think that I have beef with James Harden, which is not true, the Bucks big man said, because if it were, why would his jersey be here? He continued the tour.”

Giannis has taken a very mellow approach when it comes to his opponents, and that’s something he won’t be changing anytime soon. Instead, he wants his play to do the talking now.

Yo Gotti Announces New Double Album & Release Date

Yo Gotti hasn’t released a full-length project in nearly two years.

He’s been busy since Untrappedsigning Louisville standout EST Gee to his Collective Music Group label, and becoming a co-owner of Major League Soccer’s D.C. United franchise, but fans have been waiting for new music from the Memphis legend.

Fortunately, they won’t be waiting much longer.

Boosie Badazz Explains Why Lil Nas X Is Not His Actual Enemy

Lil Nas X’s affinity for trolling likely helped introduce Boosie Badazz to a whole new market of people who would otherwise be unaware of him. The multiple homophobic comments Boosie dished towards Lil Nas X in the past few months have turned him into a public enemy.

Despite this, Boosie doesn’t seem fazed. The rapper, once again, sat down with Vlad TV for an in-depth conversation about Lil Nas X where he explained that the “Montero” rapper isn’t an enemy of his. Boosie admitted that the viral video of a man confronting him over his comments about the pop star was entirely staged. He never had any confrontation in real life with members of the LGBTQ+ community, he said.

“All my gay fans love me,” he said. “I don’t even know where the other hate be comin’ from.”

He explained that the entirety of the backlash he faced had been from online trolls, rather than people in real life. “I don’t have problems from gay people when I see them. I really just have problems on social media. You know, I get death threats,” Boosie continued. “I’ve been getting death threats for about 6 months.

Boosie went on to explain that he still stands by his comments, regardless of any one’s opinion, including his own mother’s. “I’m proud to be the person to speak up for people who can’t talk. You know, my momma tell me ‘shut up.’ My momma told me the other day, ‘Shut the fuck up.’ Called my phone. [She said], ‘Shut the fuck up. Stop talking about all that shit,'” he recalled. “You sit down, ma. I don’t want to hear that. You know, not trying to be disrespectful to my mom but I hung up on her.'”

He elaborated that Lil Nas X is the one that’s trolling him, so he’s responding to being called out. “You know, you don’t play with no gangsta, bruh. That’s not an opp of mine,” he said. “What you are, you can’t play with me. I’m a gangsta. That’s what I’m tellin’ my momma. Like, ‘Momma, he can’t play with me. I’m a gangsta.'”

While Lil Nas X remains a hot topic in every interview with Boosie, the Grammy-nominated rapper revealed that he’s getting tired of trolling the Louisiana rapper.
