Sean Paul Details How DMX Helped Him Land Appearance In “Belly”

For fans with a solid memory, you may recall catching a Sean Paul cameo in Belly. At the time, the dancehall artist was still a budding upstart compared to the superstar status that would soon follow. As it turns out, the film’s star, DMX, had a lot to do with the appearance, and in a recent conversation with HipHopDX, Sean Paul recounted the moments that led up to the opportunity.

He recalled missing out on an event because he was locked in at the studio only find out that DMX ended up attending.

“I went to sleep upset,” he told the outlet. “The next morning, I woke up with a phone call from Tony Kelly. My phone was ringing, you know, one of those early cell phones, and he’s like, ‘Yo, come to my studio now to do a song with DMX and Mr. Vegas.’ I was like, ‘Yes sir!’ I immediately just ran and left my house. Reached over there, X wasn’t there. It was me, Vegas and the riddim basically. Tony left us in the room and said, ‘You just build something for it.’ He said, ‘Hype Williams is shooting a movie and wants a song to put in the movie, so let’s do this.’ I was like, ‘Alright, wicked.’

He goes on to explain that he and Vegas continued to work on the track until 4 in the afternoon until X rolled in around 5.

“They played the track and he was like, ‘Hmm, alright, okay. Well, this is what I got.’ And he starts [rapping], ‘Here comes the boom, here comes the boom’.”

The track’s original version was geared toward female listeners, but Sean admit that he and Mr. Vegas switched it up to match the energy that DMX brought to the cut.

“I was getting more calls like, ‘Yo, they’re gonna shoot a video and they might put you in the movie, just come along,’” Sean Paul said. “I was like, ‘Wow.’ We actually did reach to the stage part of Belly and they were like, ‘Just go up there and sing the song a couple times.’ I was kinda like, so where’s DMX now?’ And he wasn’t there, but they were like, ‘This is just a scene where they’re gonna show a dance-off but we’re putting this song in the movie […] It was good days and just exciting for me as a young artist to be put on such a platform. That was one of the biggest things to happen to me back in the day there. So big up Hype Williams, big up Tony Kelly, big up Vegas and big up the dog. R.I.P. DMX.”

Baby Tate Doubles Back With “Dungarees” Video

After sharing her latest “Dungarees” track, Baby Tate returns with a hooking visual to accompany the track, scored for the soundtrack of Netflix’s newest Bruised film.

The cut appears the first-of-its-kind all-female Hip-Hop soundtrack alongside cuts from Cardi B, City Girls, Latto and Saweetie among others. In that same spirit, the new clip finds Tate as she laces up in a gym setting, swapping with scenes from the Halle Berry flick in which the award-winning actress is both the star and director–making her debut as the latter.

The film is slated for a limited weeklong run in theaters before it hits Netflix on November 24th.

“I can’t wait to show it,” Berry told Variety. “I have to tell you, one of the things I’m most excited about is the title song that H.E.R. sang […] So I can’t wait to share with everyone and am super excited.”

Kevin Hart To Play Gary Coleman’s Role In “Diff’Rent Strokes” Live Remake

Kevin Hart is set to take on the role of Arnold Jackson during another “Live In Front of a Studio Audience” remake as ABC looks to rework its classic “Diff’rent Strokes” show.

It’s a part of a larger plan for the network to also remake “The Facts of Life,” marking its third entry in the “Live” series.

The program is set to air in December as Hart stars opposite John Lithgow as Mr. Drummond while Damon Wayans takes on the role of Willis Jackson.

Hart’s selection to succeed Coleman is certainly interesting one for several reasons, namely the fact that the 42-year-old will be portraying the same role that Coleman took on as a tween. The original series ran on NBC between 1978 and 1985 before being acquired by ABC for one more season while “The Facts of Life” ran from 1979 to 1988.

The first show featured brother Arnold and Willis, who were adopted by rich, white businessman Phillip Drummond while “Facts” served as a spinoff of the series centered on the family’s housekeeper, Edna Garrett as she worked with a group of girls at a boarding school.

Both remakes will air on ABC on Tuesday, December 7th.

“‘Live in Front of a Studio Audience’ has become one of our most anticipated highlights of the year — it brings some of the biggest and funniest stars on the planet together on the same stage, where truly anything can happen, to introduce a whole new generation to ‘Diff’rent Strokes’ and ‘Facts of Life,’” said Craig Erwich, president of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment. “Jimmy [Kimmel] and Norman [Lear] have outdone themselves with a spectacular, irreverent and hilarious cast to once again create a can’t-miss television event.”

Getaway Vehicle Used In Young Dolph Shooting Located: Report

According to new reports, law enforcement have locate the getaway vehicle used by the killers who fatally shot Young Dolph this week.

According to local outlet FOX13, the two-door Mercedes that was seen at the scene has been located in the Orange Mound neighborhood of South Memphis—just three miles away from the scene of the shooting.

Multiple witnesses have shared various photos and videos of the abandoned car being towed out of a residential driveway. While Memphis PD have yet to confirm that it is on the car themselves, the vehicle certainly appears to be a match to the same one use by tow gunmen who opened fire on the rapper and father of two in broad daylight while he paid a visit to Makeda’s Butter Cookies.

It was on Thursday that Dolph was killed in his hometown after two suspects opened fire and fled the scene. In security footage of the incident, one appeared to be holding a semi-automatic rifle while the other used a handgun to fire into the bakery.

Since his death, the scene has, undoubtedly, been the location of a massive outpouring from fans from as far away as Michigan already descending upon Memphis to pay their respects.

Charlotte’s Jaah SLT Discusses Temporary Flings On “For The Week”

Hailing from Charlotte, NC, Jaah SLT approaches every song with braggadocio and energy. Coming off a busy 2020 where he released two separate projects including Sept. 2020’s 9-25-20, which gave us hit “Right Now” with Young Nudy, Jaah has stuck to singles so far this year.

He added his sixth single of 2021 on Friday (Nov. 19) titled “For The Week,” where his choppy flow complements the production perfectly.

“For The Week” spans nearly two and a half minutes, as Jaah asserts his motives about hook ups. He prioritizes his time, saying he’ll only entertain flings “for the week.”

The instrumental’s thumping 808s, formidable claps and violin loop create an atmosphere that Jaah matches perfectly.

After dropping the track, he hinted at releasing his upcoming project next week if “For The Week” got enough support: ““For the week” AVAILABLE ON ALL PLATFORMS. SHOT BY @lksvisuals. SPAM THEM <3s IF YOU WANT A TAPE NEXT WEEK.”

While he does not have a tracklist in place for the tape, perhaps some of his prior songs will make the cut.

In the meantime though, check out Jaah SLT’s new single “For The Week” below.

Quotable Lyrics
That bitch not mine for the week
I think I’m fine for the week
I beat her back to the bet
I might just stay for the week
Got racks in the back but I get shit free
