After a five-year hiatus since his acclaimed Perfect 10, Grammy-winning producer and artist Mustard has released his fourth studio album, Faith of a Mustard Seed. Available on all major streaming platforms, the album features 14 tracks with collaborations from Young Thug, Kodak Black, Future, Roddy Ricch, Vince Staples, Ty Dolla $ign, Charlie Wilson, and more.
Faith of a Mustard Seed is a conceptual journey through Mustard’s life, blending his West Coast sound with gospel influences. The album’s skits interspersed between tracks create a narrative that adds depth to the music. “Show Me the Way” opens with Kirk Franklin leading a choir, followed by a skit of Mustard’s sister waking him for school. “Up Now” features a skit of high school Mustard, while “Pressured Up” recounts hood party experiences. “Parking Lot” transitions to a skit about LA’s roller-skating culture. “A Song for Mom” is a tribute to Mustard’s mother, featuring Ty Dolla $ign and Charlie Wilson. “Yaks Prayer” with Kodak Black captures LA street life, and “Ghetto” with Young Thug and Lil’ Durk celebrates growing up in the ghetto. The album concludes with “Pray for Me,” where Mustard raps about his story.
In an interview on The Cruz Show, Mustard emphasized the album’s personal significance, noting its vulnerability and timing after his Summer 2024 hit with Kendrick Lamar. Mustard samples his mother and sister’s voices on tracks like “Show Me the Way” and “Pray for Me,” paying homage to his family and LA roots.
