Drake Announces The New Date For His Young Money Reunion Show With Lil Wayne And Nicki Minaj

Earlier this week, Canadian fans looking forward to a Young Money Reunion concert featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj were disappointed when Drake announced that the show would have to be postponed after he contracted COVID-19. However, there’s good news on the horizon; Drake’s clearly feeling healthy enough to put the show on this weekend instead, proudly announcing his negative COVID test and the new dates for the final show of his inadvertently extended October World Weekend.

“Negative test…” he wrote, “positive outcome…this was the only date available until the fall and because the family is so solid everybody is flying back in to make it happen for you all…SEE YOU SATURDAY…young moulaaa.”

The show will conclude the most recent segment Drake’s “Road To OVO Fest,” which he announced earlier this month as an alternative to his usual blowout weekend in Toronto. Since he says he’s working on bringing OVO Fest to the world for its 10th anniversary, he instead offered October World Weekend, including shows with an All Canadian Northstars lineup at Drake’s venue History (where he sang along with surprise guest Nelly Furtado), the Toronto stop of the ongoing Lil Baby and Chris Brown tour, and now, finally his Young Money Reunion concert.

Drake Delays Young Money Reunion After Testing Positive For COVID

Nicki Minaj Lil Wayne and Drake

Fans were excited to hear of a Young Money Reunion during this years October World Weekend after Drake announced it via his Instagram in July. The reunion would feature himself, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj; the three biggest artists on Wayne’s imprint label YMCMB. However, it seems as if fans might have to wait just a little bit longer after Drake announced he tested positive for COVID on the day of the performance.

“I am truly devastated to say that I tested positive for Covid and the Young Money Reunion show scheduled for tonight is being rescheduled to the SOONEST date possible,” he wrote in his Instagram Story. “I will keep the city posted and share the new date whenever we have it locked.

“Until then I hope everyone stays safe and healthy and I love you all I am so sorry for letting you down on our weekend together and the moment I test negative I will give you everything I got on stage (except the Covid),” he added.

However, this is not the first time Drake has caught COVID. It was reported last August that the 6 God had contracted the deadly virus. However, it seemed as if the only thing that it impacted at the time was his hair growth as the Certified Lover Boy era haircut with the heart on his hairline seemed unkept.

“I had Covid that sh*t grew in weird I had to start again,” he said. “It’s coming back don’t diss.”

Drake Postpones His Young Money Reunion Show With Lil Wayne And Nicki Minaj After Contracting COVID

Canadian music fans looking forward to tonight’s Young Money reunion show featuring Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj will be disappointed to learn that the show’s chief architect Drake has announced the show must be postponed. His reason is exhaustingly familiar after the last two years; he has contracted COVID, necessitating a period of self-quarantine until he gets a negative test.

“I am truly devastated to say that I tested positive for COVID and the Young Money Reunion show scheduled for tonight is being rescheduled to the SOONEST date possible,” Drake wrote on his Instagram Story. “I will keep the city posted and share the new date whenever we have it locked. Until then I hope everyone stays safe and healthy and I love you all. I am so sorry for letting you down on our weekend together and the moment I test negative I will give you everything I got on stage (except the COVID).”

That’s mighty considerate of him, considering how some stars have treated the pandemic (which is still, y’know… ongoing). The October World Weekend event wasn’t a total bust, though. On Friday, fans at the All Canada North Stars concert were treated to a surprise appearance from Nelly Furtado, who sang her signature hit, “I’m Like A Bird” alongside a Drake who was very much in his feelings. And next year, Drake’s bringing back his OVO Fest as a tour.

Get well soon, Drake!

Drake Announced The Night One Lineup For The October World Weekend Fest

Drake has big plans for the return of his OVO Fest. In a recent Instagram post, the Toronto fixture said, “I am currently working on bringing OVO FEST around the world in 2023 for the 10th Anniversary. But of course, we wanted to turn the city up for the summer!!!” Enter October World Weekend, a mini-festival of sorts at History Toronto that is being dubbed as part of the October World Weekend Tour. Drake has Lil Baby and Chris Brown playing on Friday, July 29th and Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, and a full blown Young Money Reunion on Monday, August 1— ’cause what is a weekend anyway [Editor’s note: August 1 is Civic Holiday in Toronto, and is known by many other names throughout Canada]? But now, the “Jimmy Crooks” rapper has announced the lineup for Thursday’s big kick-off and it tips a cap to The Six, of course.

The night one lineup for October World Fest on Thursday, July 28 is what Drake calls the All Canadian Northstars. In a separate Instagram post, Drake said the lineup is, “A celebration of the music that paved the way for all of us.” Canadian hip-hop lifers on the bill include Choclair, Frank-N-Dank, Keshia Chanté, K-Os, Glenn Lewis, Maestro French Wes, Rascalz, In Essence, Jully Black, Saukrates, Kardinal Offishall, and Shawn Desman. There are also more special guests that have yet to be announced.
