Raveena Taps An Unexpected Guest Star, Jpegmafia, On Her New Single, ‘Junebug’

If there are two names who’d seem like stylistic opposites, Raveena and Jpegmafia would fit the bill. One’s a dreamy, mellow pop-soul singer who’s deeply in touch with her spirituality. The other’s a raw force of chaos whose last album cheekily nodded at the jest that his music is best for Scaring The Hoes. Somehow, on Raveena’s new single “Junebug,” they actually form a surprising chemical bond that turns out to blend better than you might expect. A big part of that is Peggy toning his energy way down and riding the jazzy groove like he stepped straight out of hip-hop’s Golden Era.

The track is the latest single from Raveena’s upcoming album Where The Butterflies Go In The Rain, and like its predecessors, continues the running theme of transformation (and bug references). In the video for “Pluto,” Raveena turns into a butterfly, while in the video for “Lucky,” she romances a giant caterpillar(?) that eventually also metamorphoses into a butterfly.

In a statement, Raveena explained the unexpected collaboration, saying, “I love inviting people with vastly different sonic landscapes to my music. To me, it is proof of our oneness and divine inter-connectedness. Jpegmafia brought the perfect energy to this summertime song — and I think we both aligned on this song with our mutual love for the tropics, with me being from India and Peggy from Jamaica.”

Raveena Serves Gorgeous Vocals On New Single “Lucky”

Raveena is an R&B singer who has been steadily delivering some great music. Overall, she has delivered some dope projects and some singles that have stayed in our heads since their release. Having said all of that, fans have been hoping for some new music. Thankfully, she will be dropping a brand-new album on June 14th called Where The Butterflies Go In The Rain. While you can’t judge an album purely by its name, this album title certainly hints at something beautiful on the way.

To help promote this brand-new album, Raveena has come through with a fresh single called “Lucky.” As we mentioned, the name of the album hints at a beautiful-sounding project. Well, this song certainly fits that bill. The instrumentation here is soft and draped in guitars with muted drums that allow for Raveena’s voice to do most of the heavy lifting. The lyrics are sweet as well, which helps bring the song together.

Raveena Makes An Unusual Friend In Her Oddly Romantic ‘Lucky’ Video

Yesterday, dreamy pop-soul singer Raveena revealed the title for her third album, Where The Butterflies Go In The Rain after sharing its first single, “Pluto,” earlier this month.

Today, Raveena rolled out the second single, “Lucky,” along with another music video that plays with the album’s title in a cheeky and oddly romantic way. The first shot is an old-fashioned title card that gives a hint at her romantic co-lead, but when you actually find out “who” it is, the video’s goofy sense of humor — and surprising heart — become clear.

As Raveena and her buggy new friend get closer, the singer dreams of butterflies. The clever metaphor addresses the transformational power of love, and how the right relationship can help a person grow wings of confidence and comfort. “Butterflies are so delicate that they have to hide in leaves and flowers until the rain passes so that their wings don’t get crushed in the rain,” she explains in a press release. “I felt like that was kind of a metaphor for where I was in my life. I needed to go back to comfort—to deep rest—and stop weathering storms.”
