Lil Skies Glides On The Beat In New Single “Wake Up”

Lil Skies is someone who has had quite a bit of longevity in the game, which is definitely nice to see. Overall, it has been hard for many of the rappers from the 2017 era to stick around. However, Skies has managed to do it with ease. Sure, there have been some road bumps along the way. However, fans are still very much aware of Skies and his music. He continues to get booked for big festivals, and his releases have remained consistent. When other artists are fading into obscurity, Skies is maintaining his fanbase.

When Lil Skies burst onto the scene, he was known for that melodic brand of hip-hop that was popular at the time. His tracks with Landon Cube are still legendary at this point. During this era, his music was inescapable. That said, all of these years later, Skies still has a lot to say. That has been evident in his past few releases. On Friday, however, he came back again with another new track for his fans. Below, you can listen to his latest effort, dubbed “Wake Up.”

Quotable Lyrics:

I find it kinda funny, they said they was gettin’ money
You see they jumpin’ dick to dick, remind me of a bungee
I’m pourin’ up a double cup, you know I like it muddy
And no you can’t come over here, cause you are not my buddy

Usher Claims He’s Going To “Wake Up R&B”

Usher fans, get ready, because the star singer just posted a TikTok video saying he’s going to “wake up R&B.” Of course, many would argue that the genre’s never slept, but the Southern born and bred artist wants to reach a new level. Moreover, he went through a pretty heavy pop phase at the end of the 2000s and along the 2010s. However, in that time, he eventually took a backseat to big releases. With the extension of his Las Vegas residency and more big moves, it looks like Usher’s set on dominating the industry with new music.

What’s more is that he already has something locked and loaded in store. For example, on Valentine’s Day he released a sultry and tantalizing visual tease for an upcoming “GLU” single and music video. Also, the tease stars Lori Harvey, which also caught fans’ attention. Even though it’s unclear when this will drop, and what exactly it consists of, it was enough to get fans ready. In this latest tease, in which he walks around a mansion in a comfy bathrobe, he’s probably banking on the grandiosity and opulent image that his powerful music evokes.

Usher Plans to “Wake Up” R&B

Furthermore, fans can’t wait to see the 44-year-old star return to some of his artistic roots. In fact, he recently proclaimed that his classic 2004 album Confessions was “the birth of toxic R&B.” While elaborating on his point, he said that back in the day, to be toxic meant to be honest. Even though he sung about relationships and overcoming their pitfalls, he said that being toxic now is more akin to acknowledging your personal pitfalls with no remorse. However you’d define it, one thing’s clear: few artists can do that style as vividly, passionately, and with as much class as the “Burn” hitmaker.

Last year, Usher celebrated the 25th anniversary of his acclaimed project My Way with an expanded edition. Considering his Vegas shows as well, he’s at a career peak where he can look back at the greatness he accomplished and bask in his status. Fortunately for his fans, that vantage point hasn’t dissuaded him from continuing to push himself and show why that status is so earned. Whatever he brings, we’re sure it’ll make a big splash. Regardless of the final product, come back to HNHH for the latest news and updates on Usher.

Logic Reflects On His Past Throughout The Poignant New Single ‘Wake Up’

Logic dropped his new song, “Wake Up,” featuring Lucy Rose. The track is a glimpse of College Park, the rapper’s first album as an independent artist. Introduced by a mesmerizing electronic beat, he slowly weaves in the vocals to reach full volume — and it repeats “everyday, wake up,” similar to an alarm.

While the vocal repetition might feel a little disorienting, the transitions he still manages to make work perfectly. “Look in the mirror / Couldn’t see that man,” he rhymes at an incredibly fast pace before slowing down to take a breather.

There are also some incredibly poignant lyrics about Logic reflecting on his mindset and state of his life. “I took a ride through my city the other day / Wonder what would have happened if it all went the other way / Jump in the whip, now I reminisce / On the days when I was running round the Ave.”

Rose is introduced at the very end of the song as a voiceover of sorts. She tells the story behind what inspired the title College Park, as it was a place in 2011 where Logic drove with his friends. As she describes, it was an altering journey of a ride.
