Diddy Allegedly Threatened To Kill Vibe Editor Over Magazine Cover

Diddy has entered rarified air. The music mogul has been accused of so many horrific crimes that each seems more plausible than the last. Diddy has obviously displayed violent tendencies, as evidenced by the infamous Cassie video. That being said, the latest accusations made against him remain startling. Danyel Smith, the former editor of Vibe Magazine, wrote an essay detailing her experience with Diddy during a 1997 photo shoot. She alleged, among other things, that Diddy threatened to have her killed.

Smith’s essay was published July 12 in the New York Times Magazine. She recalled profiling Diddy for the cover story of the December 1997/January 1998 issue of Vibe, given her superstar status at the time. Diddy, however, turned the process into a nightmare. He demanded to see the front cover photo of the issue, which went against Vibe‘s policy. When Danyel Smith explained the policy, the Bad Boy founder turned to intimidation. He reportedly showed up at Smith’s office with his entourage. Smith was led to safety by security before a confrontation could take place.

Diddy Demanded To See The Cover Before Publication

Unfortunately, Diddy was not deterred. He allegedly called Danyel Smith the next day that if Smith did not give him an advance copy of the magazine, she would be dead. Smith recalls, specifically, being told that she would end up “dead in the trunk of a car” if she didn’t do as she was told. The editor demanded an apology, to which the rapper reportedly responded “f*ck you.” Soon after, the servers were stolen from the Vibe office. Smith believes that Diddy’s entourage were behind the server theft, but there was no evidence to link them. Fortunately, a backup copy of the issue was stored, and it was published as originally planned.

Diddy already had a history of strong-arming journalists by 1997. He’d been found guilty for threatening a New York Post photographer with a gun the year before. Danyel Smith was aware of the risks of a cover story, but he was so big at the time that the risk was deemed worthy. “[We] had to have him on the cover,” Smith recalled. Diddy’s representatives told New York Times Magazine that he would not comment on the former editor’s allegations.

Usher Calls Being Single “The Hardest Thing” He’s “Ever Had To Do”

Usher’s back in full promo and music mode these days, dropping a new single with 21 S*vage and Summer Walker and enjoying his Las Vegas residency. Recently, to talk about upcoming plans, a new album, and all that’s going on in his life, he sat down for a cover interview with VIBE magazine. Moreover, the R&B superstar reflected on a lot across his storied career, including the warring sides of his personality and what his experiences have taught him. However, he also backtracked on famous lines from “Confessions Part II,” and did so to many fans’ amusement on social media. They thought that the most difficult challenge in Mr. Raymond’s life was telling the girl she loves that he’s having a baby with a woman he barely knows, as the song goes.

Jokes aside, Usher said”the hardest thing that [he’s] ever had to do” isn’t that, but rather just being single. “The idea of creating a life with someone is what I would like to do, maybe because I didn’t have or didn’t see that,” the 44-year-old remarked. And I get to remedy that idea by having an incredible partnership. I can then have the thing that I ultimately wanted to see.”

Usher Reveals His Toughest Challenge

Overall, it seems like this obstacle in the crooner’s way is due to the fact that he doesn’t like to be alone. Of course, there are very few people out there who don’t want some company at least some of the time, and it’s about as relatable as Usher can be as a massive entertainer. Still, it’s definitely something that he keeps close to his chest, because his live shows certainly haven’t lost any of their luster no matter his relationship status. In fact, he communicates that longing quite well for audiences, and always keeps things compelling.

Meanwhile, other press runs of his also centered around relationships- but not his own. While speaking to PEOPLE, the Southern heartthrob spoke on the Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson drama that came up after he serenaded the former at his show. He clearly didn’t mean anything by it, and hopes that people will mostly remember the good time that they had. For more news and the latest updates on Usher, keep checking in with HNHH.

50 Greatest Rappers Of All Time List Shared Via Partnership Between Billboard & Vibe

Creating a list of the 50 greatest rappers of all time is certainly no easy feat. There are so many artists who deserve a mention for their contributions to the genre and the culture. However, with only 50 spots, there will evidently have to be some notable exclusions.

In a new partnership between Billboard and Vibe, the duo of magazines are sharing their collaborative list of the 50 best rappers ever. On Wednesday (January 11), they shared the first 10, #50-41.

The #50 spot goes to Rick Ross, with Rev Run and Melle Mel above him at #49 and #48 respectively. MC Lyte comes in at #47, Jadakiss at #46 and the 45th spot belongs to Ice-T. Queen Latifah, Bun B and Redman follow, as they take the 44th-42nd spots in order. E-40 is the last rapper to make the first instalment of the list, coming in at #41.

Furthermore, the Bay Area legend is one rapper who took to his Twitter account to express his gratitude for his inclusion on the list. “Appreciate the recognition from @billboard & @VibeMagazine for their 50 Greatest Rappers of All-Time list[.] Still feel underrated nationally but nobody can deny my longevity, independent hustle, my unorthodox style and creative slang in this rap game!!” writes the 55-year-old.

However, it’s certainly inspiring some interesting reactions and responses on social media. Specifically, some fans seemingly disagree with Jadakiss being in the bottom 10. “E-40 ranked higher over Jadakiss on this 50 greatest rappers list,” writes one fan on Twitter.

“How you got a top 50 rappers list and Jadakiss is at the bottom of the list?” questions brokencool in his own response.

The list serves as a celebration of hip-hop correspondingly turning 50 years old this year. Each week, they’ll be further announcing the list’s next 10 rappers. The final top 10 will eventually be unveiled during the week of February 6. It will certainly be interesting to see who they rank where.

What do you think of #50-41? Do you agree or disagree with any of the placements? Comment your thoughts down below. Finally, make sure you stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates.
