UCONN defeated Purdue 75-60 on Monday night to secure its second consecutive national championship victory, solidifying its dominance in the NCAA Tournament.

Tristen Newton’s outstanding performance earned him the title of Most Outstanding Player in the Final Four. He led the Huskies with 20 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.

As the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed, Connecticut entered March Madness as the clear favorite to clinch the title. Their impressive run saw them achieve double-digit victories in every round, with an average margin of victory of 23.3 points per game.

In addition to the championship accolades, UCONN men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley will receive a substantial $500,000 bonus for the team’s triumph over Purdue in the championship game.

Zach Edey’s stellar performance in controlling the paint was also instrumental in UCONN’s victory, with the national player of the year delivering an impressive 31 points and ten rebounds on the grand stage.

UCONN’s back-to-back championship triumphs underscore their prowess in collegiate basketball, cementing their status as a formidable force in the sport.

SOURCE SPORTS: Purdue Boilermakers to Face UConn Huskies in 2024 Men’s National Championship Game

1 NCAA March Madness MarchMadnessMBB X

The stage is set for the 2024 Men’s National Championship game as the Purdue Boilermakers secured their spot with a 63-50 victory over NC State in the Final Four. This victory marks Purdue’s second appearance in the national title game in program history, the first being in 1969.

Purdue’s suffocating defense ensured they never trailed throughout the game. Limiting NC State’s DJ Burns to eight points on 4 of 10 shooting underscored their defensive prowess. Meanwhile, Zach Edey’s stellar performance with 20 points and 12 rebounds led the game in both categories. Despite not being as dominant offensively as in previous matchups, Purdue managed to sink ten three-pointers, with Lance Jones contributing four from beyond the arc.

On the other side, the UConn Huskies powered through to their second consecutive national championship game appearance under the leadership of coach Dan Hurley. UConn’s 11th consecutive tournament win, achieved by a margin of 13-plus points, showcased their dominance. Despite a strong challenge from Alabama, the Huskies’ balanced scoring attack, with all five starters notching at least 12 points, propelled them to victory.

The highly anticipated showdown between Purdue and UConn is scheduled for Monday night at 9:20 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast on TBS/TNT/truTV. With both teams vying for college basketball’s ultimate prize, fans can expect an electrifying contest as Purdue aims for redemption and UConn seeks to etch their name in history with back-to-back national championships.

Mike Greenberg Has Fans Up In Arms With UConn NBA Playoffs Hot Take

Mike Greenberg has watched and studied enough sports in his long broadcasting career to know when something sounds off. However, sometimes, a thought can cross your mind that makes you believe even the most asinine ideas. This has to be the case with the latest statement Greenberg made this morning on ESPN’s Get Up. When discussing the UConn Huskies men’s basketball team, the long time host had high praise for the program. So much high praise that he believes they could compete with NBA teams.

In a quick statement between Jay Williams’s breakdown of the Huskies, here’s what Greenberg had to say, “[UConn men’s basketball] would make the playoffs in the NBA’s Eastern Conference. That’s how good they are.” An absolutely disrespectful comment to make to all of the NBA team’s that may have heard it. But it doesn’t seem like Greenberg regrets what he said. However, some fans immediately took to Twitter/X to call out Greenberg’s comments. Take a look at some of the best reactions below.

Best Reactions

Greenberg’s message was not as well received as he may have thought. Most of the interactions to his statement were most saying this is the dumbest thing they ever heard. Which is a fair assessment. For instance, way back in 2015, many believed that the Kentucky Wildcats were destined to finish the college basketball season undefeated. So of course many were saying silly things like what Greenberg did today, that the team could defeat an NBA team. Long story shot, Kentucky didn’t even make the National Championship that season.

So, long story short, saying that a college team could beat a professional team in any sport is a dumb comment. Yes, we’ve all heard the tales of a team entire of college stars besting the 1992 Dream Team in a scrimmage. But let’s be real, the Dream Team would have smoked them by as much as they wanted to if the stakes mattered. What are your thoughts on Greenberg’s comment? Sound off in the comments. Paige Bueckers Forgoes WNBA Draft To Play Another Year At UConn, Basketball World Stunned

UConn star Paige Bueckers has stunned the basketball world by announcing that she will remain at UConn for at least one more season. “I know everybody wants me to address the elephant in the room. Unfortunately this will not be my last senior night here at UConn. Just the family camaraderie here, just loving it here, loving my teammates, loving my coaches, me not having the four years that I planned on, not being able to play as much,” Bueckers told SNY following a routine win over Georgetown for the Huskies.

Bueckers was a projected lottery pick in April’s WNBA Draft. However, there was also the chance that the vaunted prospect and 2021 National Player of the Year might stay in college another season. Bueckers’ collegiate career has been consistently plagued by injury, including missing most of her sophomore year and the entirety of her junior year. Furthermore, the move makes Bueckers the presumptive No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft. ESPN‘s most recent mock draft for 2024 had Bueckers being selected third overall.

Caitlin Clark Shatters WBB Scoring Record

Meanwhile, presumptive No. 1 pick Caitlin Clark officially became the NCAA women’s scoring record holder this week. It was only fitting that Caitlin Clark hit a signature logo three to break Kelsey Plum‘s record. Iowa opened their Big Ten matchup against Michigan with Clark eight points shy of the record. Clark scored all eight of Iowa’s opening points to pause the game less than two-and-a-half minutes after it started to let her soak in her achievement. However, she wasn’t finished. Clark scored a career-high 49 points as Iowa routed the Wolverines 106-89, shattering Plum’s record in the process.

The record might be hers, but Clark is far from done. Iowa are second in the Big Ten standings with a 12-2 conference record. They have four games remaining in the regular season, including conference-deciding matchups against No. 14 Indiana and No. 2 Ohio State. After that comes the Big Ten Tournament and March Madness. With Clark expected to become the No. 1 pick in this year’s WNBA Draft, it would be only fitting for her to end her college career by avenging last year’s National Championship defeat. However, there is another record well within Clark’s sight. Thanks to her massive game against Michigan, Clark is now just 98 points behind the all-time NCAA scoring record. That has stood since 1970 when LSU legend Pete Maravich ended his college career with 3,667 points.

UConn Star Azzi Fudd Out For The Season

UConn has announced that junior Azzi Fudd will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. According to the school, Fudd suffered a non-contact injury during practice last week. She watched the #6 Huskies beat Maryland and Minnesota from the bench before the extent of her injury was announced. Fudd, the #1 recruit of the 2021 class, has been plagued with injuries across her first three years of college ball.

“We’re all just so upset for Azzi. She worked hard to be healthy for this season, and it’s unfortunate when you put in a lot of hard work and have a setback like this. Azzi loves the game and works tirelessly. I’m confident she’ll rehab with the same work ethic and come back better than ever. We’ll obviously miss her presence on the court, but Azzi will continue to be a great teammate and important part of this team this season. Our program will support Azzi through her recovery however we can,” head coach Geno Auriemma said in a statement.

UConn To Persevere Without Fudd

Despite the injury, it’s business as usual in Storrs. “We’ve always handled [injuries] really, really, really well. We’ve always been pretty resilient. For us to win 31 games last year, given what we went through, they respond, they don’t pout. They really don’t. So when I said, ‘Hey, we’re just going to have to figure this one out,’ it changes your rotation obviously, it changes maybe the way you want to play. It certainly changes your offense,” Auriemma told reporters last week.

The Huskies are 3-1, having suffered a shocking loss to then-unranked NC State in their second game of the season. However, things don’t get any easier for UConn going forward. The Huskies are in the Cayman Islands for a Feast Week tournament. There, they will have to face #2 UCLA and defending WNIT champions Kansas. UConn will be the first major test for the Bruins, who are 4-0 behind wins against Purdue, UC Riverside, Bellarmine, and Princeton.

Drake Loses Out On Huge National Championship Game Bet

Drake has always been someone who likes to place a friendly wager. However, the main difference between him and everyone else is that he has the money to go big. Whenever the artist takes to Instagram with a recent sports bet, you can be sure that it will be between the $250,000 and $1,000,000 range. Overall, it is always fun to watch, especially when you consider the Drake curse that has plagued numerous sports teams. More often than not, the legend finds himself losing a lot of money, but there is plenty more from where that came from.

Last night was the National Championship game for men’s basketball. For the most part, it was a very boring game between the University of Connecticut Huskies, and San Diego State University. UConn won the game by a final score of 76-59, and the game was never really close. Below, you can see that Drake made two bets on this game. He made one worth $250K, claiming that the Huskies would win by 6-10 points. Additionally, he wagered $100K that they would win by over 11. Ultimately, he was simply hedging his bets. Had he won the first bet, he would win over $1,000,000. For winning the second, he would get $230,000 which would more or less offset the losses of the first wager.

Drake Still Got Some Money Back

In the end, Drake came out as a loser in the situation. With the Huskies winning by 17, he consequently lost his very first bet. Moreover, he ended up hitting on the second bet. This means he ended the night with less money than he started. It may be unfortunate, but Drake is worth hundreds of millions of dollars, so he won’t be hurting too much. Besides, the Huskies overcame the curse. They were dominant all night long, and by the end of it all, they got to take down the nets.

Subsequently, it will be interesting to see what bets Drake will make in the future. Of course, the NBA playoffs are on the horizon, which is the perfect occasion to make some wagers. Furthermore, the NHL playoffs are also on the horizon, and we’re sure he will be watching the Toronto Maple Leafs, very intently. Let us know what you thought of the title game, in the comments below.
