Andre Braugher’s Death Mourned By Bun B & Kid Cudi Amongst Other Hip-Hop Stars

A wealth of hip-hop stars have come out to pay tribute to Andrew Braugher, the veteran actor who died this week aged 61. “Met him once in the streets of NYC,” he wrote. “Thanked him for being a credit to his craft. Couldn’t have been more kind. RIP Captain!” Bun B wrote on Instagram. “This f-ckin sucks. I worked w Andre on B99 years ago. I remember I asked him for relationship advice and he was so cool and easy. Ill never forget that moment being in his presence. RIP Andre,” Kid Cudi wrote on X. Cudi appeared as the main antagonist of a Season 1 episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.

“Damn man. One of my fav character actors (Homicide: Life On The Streets/Gideon’s Crossing/Hack/Thief/Men Of A Certain Age/Law & Order/of course Brooklyn Nine Nine & his last series The Good Fight). Man I would commit to a show on the strength of him being a character. Wow man this is sad for his loved ones and family and friends and for the legions of fans who loved his work. Rest in Power #AndreBraugher,” Questlove wrote. Braugher’s publicist said that the veteran actor died after a “brief illness”.

Andre Braugher, Dead At 61

Braugher was a two-time Emmy award winner who found a way to bring something new to every role, despite this long-running presence in police procedurals. He began his small-screen career as Detective Winston Blake in a series of Kojak specials between 1989 and 1990. However, his breakout role would be in Homicide: Life On The Streets, where he appeared in nearly 100 episodes. Despite this, contemporary audiences will likely know Braugher as Captain Raymond Holt in the police comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The stoic Captain Holt allowed Braugher to flex is comedic muscles, even if his character wasn’t expected to be the “funny man”.

Tributes from across the entertainment world have poured in for Braugher since his death was announced. “Can’t believe you’re gone so soon. I’m honored to have known you, laughed with you, worked with you and shared 8 glorious years watching your irreplaceable talent. This hurts. You showed me what a life well-lived looked like,” Braugher’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Terry Crews wrote on Instagram.

Magoo Dead At 50 Years Old: Report

Magoo has reportedly passed away at the age of 50. He was best known for his work as one-half of Timbaland & Magoo. The duo released several hit songs in the 1990s and early 2000s, including “Up Jumps da Boogie.” According to HipHopDX, Digital Black, of the group Playa, was the first to break the news on Instagram. The rapper’s cause of death remains unclear.

“Man can’t believe this RIP Magoo damn big bro wasnt ready for this at all #superfriends,” he wrote in his post. Ginuwine also appeared to reference in passing in a post on Sunday night. It reads: “Times get rough but we keep on pushing just heard some news I hope it ain’t true …I just want everyone to know that time is short love who you love and make sure they know it.”

Their first, Welcome to Our World, released in 1997, with a second, Indecent Proposal, coming in 2001. They released their final album together, Under Construction, Part II, in 2003. Questlove, Japanese Breakfast, & More Pay Tribute To Ryuichi Sakamoto

Ryuichi Sakamoto, the legendary Japanese composer who rose to prominence as a member of the Yellow Magic Orchestra, passed away at the age of 71. In the wake of the announcement, Questlove, Japanese Breakfast, and many other artists shared tributes for the late musician on social media. Sakamoto was initially diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014 but appeared to be doing well for quite some time. In 2021, he announced that the cancer had returned.

“While undergoing treatment for cancer discovered in June 2020, Sakamoto continued to create works in his home studio whenever his health would allow,” Sakamoto’s management, Commmons, wrote in a statement. “He lived with music until the very end. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to his fans and all those who have supported his activities, as well as the medical professionals in Japan and the U.S. who did everything in their power to cure him. In accordance with Sakamoto’s strong wishes, the funeral service was held among his close family members.”

Questlove paid tribute in an Instagram post, writing: “Thank You Ryuichi Sakamoto for your gifts. Sad to see another force leave this planet. Even if he name isn’t familiar his influence on ANY artist you ever tested your b-boy b-girl poppin/lockin/breakdance/electric boogie sites HIM as their god.”

Close friend and collaborator, Alva Noto, also wrote on Twitter: “We will miss you on this side of life. A void is left that I cannot fully grasp at the moment. Our deepest condolences to those who were closest to him.” Japanese Breakfast further remarked, “I am so so sad. What a loss.”

Over the course of his career, Sakamoto won an Oscar, a BAFTA, a Grammy, as well as 2 Golden Globe Awards as a film-score composer. He worked on The Last Emperor, The Revenant, Snake Eyes, and more over the years.

Keanu Reeves, Questlove & More Share Tributes To Lance Reddick

The tragic and sudden loss of Lance Reddick shocked the world on Friday (March 17). The 60-year-old actor was doing press for his upcoming film John Wick 4 recently, and cast-mate Keanu Reeves was one of many, many fellow entertainers who posted their tributes to Lance Reddick. Moreover, the Baltimore native is perhaps best known for his role as Cedric Daniels in HBO’s The Wire, a role that garnered him immense acclaim. However, he also starred in multiple film, TV, and video game projects. The many friends in the business who shared their heartfelt goodbyes speaks to the magnitude and positive impact of his art and soul.

“We are deeply saddened and heartbroken at the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick,’ Reeves stated alongside Chad Stahelski, John Wick 4‘s director. “He was the consummate professional and a joy to work with. Our love and prayers are with his wife Stephanie, his children, family and friends. We dedicate the film to his loving memory. Gangsta Boo’s Death Leaves Hip-Hop In Mourning: Drake, GloRilla, And More Pay Respects

The excitement of a new year beginning is still wearing off, though the mood became sombre once the hip-hop community heard about the death of Gangsta Boo. She passed on Sunday (January 1), and it’s chiefly suspected that an overdose was her ultimate cause of death.

The rapper – born Lola Chantrelle Mitchell – was evidently discovered dead on her front porch yesterday. At the time, narcotics were correspondingly found on her person. The night before, she and her brother were celebrating in Memphis. In the midst of their New Year’s party, he apparently overdosed but was fine after receiving treatment at a hospital.

Later that night, they took the celebration back to Boo’s place. Unfortunately, this looks to be when she met her ultimate demise. The news has been undeniably hard to swallow, with many friends and collaborators taking to social media to pay their respects.

Among them is Drake, who posted an old photo of the late rhymer and a friend on his Instagram Story. As an illustration of his feelings, he wrote, “Rest in heaven Gangsta Boo.”

Another reaction came from Chip Tha Ripper. On Twitter, he comparatively wrote, “Gangsta Boo was SUCH a beautiful Queen, inside and out. I’m so grateful to have been able to know you and share good times with you.”

The 36-year-old’s emotional post later goes on, “Wow. I grew up on your music and you are a household name the ghettos of America and loved all across the world!!! You will be missed.”

Other stars reeling over the sad news include Big Boi, Duke Deuce, Curren$y, Rah Digga, and finally, GloRilla.

The latter recently worked with Boo as well as Latto on her “FTCU” single. The collaboration undeniably hit it off with audiences. Many fans were undoubtedly eager to see what the recently deceased artist had in store for 2023.

Grand Daddy I.U. Dies At 54

Grand Daddy I.U. has passed away at the age of 54. LL Cool J, Busta Rhymes, Method Man, and more all mourned the veteran rapper afterward on social media, Tuesday.

Grand Daddy I.U. was a leading artist on the iconic label Cold Chillin’ Records in the late 1980s. Before then, the late Biz Markie helped him get signed after hearing one of his demo tapes. His debut album, Smooth Assassin, later helped him land several songs on the charts, including “Something New” and “Sugar Free.”

According to TMZ, the Queens-born rapper died peacefully in his sleep; however, the outlet did not confirm a cause of death.

As for the reaction to his passing, several popular voices in the hip-hop community shared tributes for him during posts on social media.

Pete Rock wrote online: “GRAND DADDY IU YOU WERE A GREAT PERSON AND IM SAD RIGHT NOW.”

“Rest in power King. HipHop was in your DNA. @granddaddy_iu Thank You for your contribution,” LL Cool J also wrote in a post on Instagram.

Method Man commented on LL Cool J’s post: “Long Island Legend … rest in power King.”

In addition, Busta Rhymes wrote: “Waking up to this crazy, RIP ALMIGHTY GDIU!!”

As noted by AllHipHop, N.O.R.E. listed I.U. in his list of top five rappers dead or alive back in 2008.

“Grand Daddy I.U. was one of the most lyrical, wordplay-having emcees,” he said at the time. “Young artists like Murda Mook… they don’t understand a lot of their style was fathered by Grand Daddy I.U.”

Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, LL Cool J & More Pay Homage To Coolio

Hip-hop is mourning the loss of Coolio, who died at 59 on Wednesday.

Coolio’s manager, Jarez Posey, confirmed that rapper’s passing shortly after the news broke. Posey explained a friend found the “Gangsta’s Paradise” rapper in the bathroom of at a house in Los Angeles before an ambulance was called.

Authorities suspect that he suffered a heart attack. Police launched a death investigation but they said there isn’t evidence leading them to believe in the involvement of foul play.

Coolio’s talent manager, Sheila Finegan, issued a statement following his death. “We are saddened by the loss of our dear friend and client, Coolio, who passed away Wednesday afternoon,” Finegan said. “He touched the world with the gift of his talent and will be missed profoundly. Please have Coolio’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”

Coolio blew up on the West Coast with the release of 1995’s “Gangsta’s Paradise,” though he’d built a reputation throughout California during his come-up. He locked in records with Ice Cube and Tupac before his break-out hit record, which landed in Michelle Pfeiffer’s 1995 film Dangerous Minds.

Pfeiffer was among those who shared tributes on their timeline following his death. The acclaimed actress described him as “nothing but gracious. She added “Gangsta’s Paradise” Grammy award-winning status was equally important in propelling the film’s success.

“Heartbroken to hear of the passing of the gifted artist @coolio. A life cut entirely too short,” she wrote on Instagram. “I remember him being nothing but gracious. 30 years later I still get chills when I hear the song. Sending love and light to his family.”

Aside from Pfeiffer, fellow hip-hop legends paid tribute to him. Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, MC Hammer, and more. Ice Cube, who worked alongside Coolio on “Colorblind” off of Death Certificate, reflected on Coolio’s rise.

“This is sad news. I witness first hand this man’s grind to the top of the industry. Rest In Peace @Coolio,” he wrote on Instagram.

Ice-T wrote, “Holly S–t!!! I was just talking to him 2 weeks ago! He was performing in Europe… This is so Fd up…”

Ahead of his success in the mid 90s, Coolio was formerly a WC and The Maad Circle member before inking a deal. In the subsequent years, he inked a deal with Tommy Boy Records where he released, It Takes A Thief.
