Joe Exotic Net Worth 2024: What Is The Infamous “Tiger King” Star Worth?

Joe Exotic is the flamboyant former zookeeper and central figure of the hit documentary series Tiger King. He has experienced a dramatic and publicized journey that has captivated audiences worldwide. As of 2024, his financial status has taken a significant turn, with a net worth of -$1 million, according to Media Coverage. This figure reflects the culmination of legal battles, the loss of his zoo, and other financial troubles that have plagued his life since rising to fame. Joe Exotic’s story is a complex tapestry of ambition, controversy, and legal entanglements, offering a glimpse into the darker sides of fame and the exotic animal industry in the United States.

Rise To Notoriety

Joe Exotic, born Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage, initially garnered attention through his ownership and operation of the Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma, where he housed hundreds of exotic animals, including tigers, lions, and other big cats. His eccentric personality, mullet hairstyle, country music videos, and outspoken stance on various issues made him a controversial figure long before Tiger King. Exotic’s attempts to parlay his zoo’s success into a career in entertainment and politics, including a run for President of the United States and for Governor of Oklahoma, further spotlighted his unconventional approach to fame.

The turning point in Joe Exotic’s life came with his arrest and subsequent conviction on multiple charges, including murder-for-hire and violations of wildlife laws. These legal battles have had a profound impact on his financial status, leading to the loss of his zoo, significant legal fees, and restitution costs. The financial strain of these issues has been exacerbated by the loss of income sources and the inability to capitalize on his newfound fame due to his incarceration. These factors have collectively contributed to his negative net worth, highlighting the steep cost of his legal and personal battles.

The Impact Of Tiger King

The release of Tiger King on Netflix thrust Joe Exotic into the global spotlight, turning him into a household name overnight. The documentary series shed light on the underbelly of the exotic animal trade in the U.S. and the personal vendettas and eccentricities of those within it. While Tiger King has generated significant public interest and sympathy for Joe Exotic, it has also sparked criticism and controversy regarding animal rights and the ethics of exotic animal ownership. Despite the series’ success, Exotic’s financial gain from the show has been limited due to his incarceration and ongoing legal issues.

Enduring Influence

Despite his current negative net worth and incarceration, Joe Exotic’s influence remains undeniable. He has become a symbol of the complexities surrounding fame, the ethical treatment of animals, and the American legal system. His story has sparked discussions on a range of issues, from animal rights to the impact of documentary filmmaking on real-life subjects. Even from behind bars, Joe Exotic continues to captivate the public imagination, reflecting the enduring fascination with his life and the broader themes it encompasses.

Joe Exotic Looks Healthy In New Photos From Jail

Joe Exotic is looking surprisingly healthy in new photos that have emerged from his time in jail. Joseph Maldonado-Passage, more famously known as Joe Exotic from the Netflix series Tiger King, was found guilty in a murder-for-hire case. It involved Carole Baskin, an animal welfare activist, who was also on the show. He was sentenced to 22 years in prison for attempting to hire two gunmen to kill Baskin.

Joe Exotic did not do a great job of picking his hitmen. One of them turned out to be an undercover FBI agent. In addition to the murder-for-hire charges, Maldonado-Passage was convicted of illegally selling tiger cubs. He was also charged with killing five tigers. During the undercover operation, Maldonado-Passage offered the FBI agent $10,000. He was then recorded instructing the agent to follow Baskin into a mall parking lot. There, the hitman was to shoot her and quickly leave the scene.

Joe Exotic’s Jail Update

Recently, a federal judge reduced Joe Exotic’s sentence by one year. This followed an appeals court ruling. The ruling found improper sentencing guidelines were used in his original 2020 conviction. In recent proceedings, Maldonado-Passage has been seeking leniency. This is due to his prostate cancer diagnosis. Joe had postponed treatment for the condition until after the resentencing. Carole Baskin, also featured in Tiger King, expressed her ongoing fear of potential threats from Maldonado-Passage. She says that he still harbors intense ill will towards her. In the courtroom, many of Maldonado-Passage’s supporters showed up. Some of them donned animal-print masks and shirts advocating for his release with the slogan “Free Joe Exotic.”

Joe Exotic is still in jail, but a recent photo update seems to show that he is doing well. In the photo, he stands between two friends, leaning against a yellow brick wall. Despite his cancer diagnosis, he looks healthy. Whether or not that is the case is unclear. What do you think of the latest Joe Exotic update? Do you think he deserves to stay in jail? Let us know in the comments below. Stay tuned to HNHH for all the latest updates.

Joe Exotic Is Trying To Run For President

Joe Exotic, the subject of the hit Netflix docuseries, The Tiger King, wants to run for president. This is despite the fact he is currently serving a 21-year prison sentence. Sometimes, the truth can be stranger than fiction.

While this sounds like some kind of joke, Joseph Maldonado-Passage promised on his official campaign webpage when it was first put up that this is not some joke. He is completely serious. He also mentioned Carol Baskin, the woman that he tried to have killed. However, that initial post that does not seem to be up anymore. The way that the post was written made it sound like he believed the world was out to get him. That is probably the reason why it is no longer available.

Joe Exotic’s politics

Exotic’s political history is not that strong. He had tried for a long-shot presidential candidacy in 2016 but obviously failed. Exotic also tried and failed to become governor of Oklahoma. He is probably hoping that his newfound fame from Netflix will meme him up to victory, just like Trump. Joe Exotic identifies as a Libertarian. His platform involves radical changes to the country, such as only having sales taxes and making social security optional. To substitute the loss of taxes, he wants to make an immigration tax like how they do it in Belize. Gun control is only lightly touched on. Exotic thinks that the age limit to buy them should be increased to 21 and gun-related crimes have a bigger punishment than those without guns.

He also wants to put term limits on federal judges, U.S. attorneys senators, and representatives. This is part of the prison and criminal justice reform that he is suggesting. For his prison reform, he wants to expand their living quarters so that it is more 7’x12′ and to make prison food meet nutritional guidelines. His criminal justice reformation is to tear it from the root and rework the entire system. Exotic wants people to go to prison only if there is hard evidence against them. He also wants to change public defendants into private lawyers in rotation. Exotic wants to change it so that they are paid more or less by the government depending on if they win or not.

Joe Exotic Called On Cardi B To Help Him Get Out Of Jail And She Responded

Next month will bring the premiere of Tiger King 2, for which Netflix shared a trailer a couple days ago. Ahead of that, though, Joe Exotic is looking for help with getting out of prison and has called on Cardi B for assistance, a call that Cardi recently answered.

On October 21, Exotic’s unverified Twitter account shared a photo of a handwritten note that is addressed to Cardi and reads, “When you see the truth in Tiger King 2 I need you to rally everyone together to be my voice of freedom! Be my hero girl.” Cardi finally saw the post yesterday, as she shared it and wrote, “Wait is this the real tiger king?”

John Michael Phillips, Exotic’s lawyer, responded to Cardi’s tweet, writing, “I represent Joe. He heard about your message from prison. I’d love to put you two together on a phone call next week.” He later added, “I can’t even imagine facilitating the call between @iamcardib and @joe_exotic. That collaboration may make the world explode. Here kitty kitty (the WAP remix) is so 2022. Cardi, I can probably get you on a call with Joe next week. He’s grateful for you taking on Carole early.”

Exotic sees an ally in Cardi due to her previous run-ins with Carole Baskin. Baskin shared criticisms about Cardi over the animals used in her “WAP” video, and Cardi responded, “I’m not gonna engage with Carole Baskin on that. Like, that’s just ridiculous, you know? Oh, Lord. Like, girl: you killed your g*ddamn husband.”

Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
