Donald Glover Compares Retiring The Childish Gambino Name To ‘The Office’

Today is, in a way, Donald Glover‘s last day as Childish Gambino. Bando Stone & The New World, which comes out on Friday, July 19, is being billed as Glover’s final album with the Wu-Tang Clan name generator-assisted moniker he’s had since the late 2000s. While appearing on Hot Ones, the Emmy-nominated Mr. And Mrs. Smith star discussed his decision to retire the name.

“I always knew like Childish Gambino was like a character, on some level I wanted it to end. I feel like the Childish Gambino character is almost like the boss from The Office,” he said, referring to Michael Scott, played by Steve Carell. “It’s like yeah, that worked 10 years ago. It’s like oh, it’s a little sad but it’s also like wow, the cycle kind of continues, which is great I think.”

It’s an understandable decision from Glover. Would you want to be associated with something you did in 2008? Probably not.

Later in the Hot Ones interview, Glover talked about the unlikely legacy of the lemon pepper wet wings on Atlanta. “When we did Atlanta and we had the joke about the lemon pepper wet… it was literally just like a silly joke,” he said. “I didn’t know culturally that it would take on that kind of life or that people even cared that much, but that was the whole Atlanta experience to be honest, like to make that. It was a really good lesson in not worrying about the destination and just enjoying the journey really.”

Bando Stone & The New World is out 7/19 via RCA Records. Find more information here.

Dwight Schrute Actor Rainn Wilson Traded Beets For Beats While Unexpectedly Joining Logic In The Studio

Rainn Wilson recently changed his name to Rainnfall Heat Wave Extreme Winter Wilson to raise awareness around our environmental crisis, but he’s still got some Dwight Schrute in him.

Logic’s Instagram account has been very active over the last few days, including an announcement that he’s expecting his second child and giving $100 to winners of impromptu rock, paper, scissors games he hosted on the street. Sandwiched between that is a video of Wilson producing beats in Logic’s home studio.

“Look who stopped by to cook some beets,” Logic captioned the video. In the video, Logic says, “My man is making beats, and he’s really snappin’.” The Office fans will immediately understand the play on words.

Also over the weekend, Wilson shared on his own Instagram that he finished editing his book, Soul Boom: Why We Need A Spiritual Revolution, which is due on April 25, 2023 via Hachette Go.

“I hit quite a milestone. I have finished going through my galley proofs and correcting them. It’s an exacting process. With a fine-tooth comb. Pouring through the old PDF, looking for any tweaks and last-minute changes you want to make. There’s the book,” Wilson said in the Instagram video. “I’ve been working on this thing for about three and a half years. Kind of my big COVID project. Comes out in April and sparks what I hope will be a much-needed conversation about reinventing — reimagining — spirituality in our personal lives and in our society itself.”

Would anybody say no to Logic, the first rapper with a No. 1 bestselling novel, and Wilson, also a bestselling author, co-authoring a book?

Logic & Dwight From “The Office” Spotted In The Studio Together

Logic is certainly no stranger to a fun studio session. Fans consistently get a look into his life and recording process through his YouTube series, Just Another Day.

However, a recent Instagram post shows him in the studio with a rather unexpected collaborator – none other than actor, Rainn Wilson.

The “Everyday” rapper took to his account on Saturday (December 31) to share footage of the surprising duo making music together. “My man is making beats right now and he’s really snapping,” says the 32-year-old. He subsequently shows the actor using an MPC beat-making machine. “Look who stopped by to cook some beets,” he writes in the post’s caption.

Of course, Wilson is best known for playing Dwight Schrute in the comedy series, The Office.

Logic is a documented fan of movies and TV shows. He has even teased about his involvement in various films over the years. In 2018, it was announced that he was set to star in a film produced by J.J. Abrams. However, it’s still yet to see a release and has reportedly been scrapped.

Further showing his passion for motion pictures, the video for his collaboration with Marshmello, “Everyday,” is actually a 10-minute long short film.

Earlier this year, the Maryland native dropped his seventh studio album, Vinyl Days. The monstrous 30-track project shows off his love for old-school boom-bap. Additionally, it finds him spitting verses with a wide array of guests including Wiz Khalifa, RZA and Action Bronson. Furthermore, it features skits from some pop culture figures like J.J. Abrams, Aaron Judge and Anthony Fantano.

It’s certainly not hard to imagine Dwight Schrute delivering an entertaining skit or an intro on a Logic track. We can only hope that we’ll get to hear what they’re making soon.
