Lizzo Believes SZA Will Be ‘One Of The Greatest Songwriters And Singers’ Of All Time

Lizzo had some kind words to say about her friend and fellow musician, SZA. In an excerpt in Time‘s 2022 Time100 Next issue, Lizzo shared an account about how she met SZA in Minneapolis before either of them had risen to mainstream fame.

At the time of their first meeting, they took a selfie together, not knowing they would form a long-term friendship. A year after their first encounter, Lizzo booked a tour with SZA as the headliner. Shortly after, the two would watch each other blow up in the music world.

“When she dropped Ctrl, her debut studio album, it was a cultural f*cking reset,” Lizzo said of her friend in the magazine. “She changed the world! The authenticity in her craft — the way she’s able to tell her story and the way she uses melody — is extraordinary. No one can replicate that. When she’s onstage, she’s timeless. She’s someone who’s the real deal, and I think that she’s well on her way to being regarded as one of the greatest songwriters and singers of all time.”

‘Time’ Names SZA, Jack Harlow, Machine Gun Kelly, And Other Musicians To Its 2022 Time100 Next List

Every year, Time unveils its Time100 Next list, which “recognizes 100 rising stars from across industries and around the world.” One of those industries is music and consequently, the newly revealed 2022 edition of the list includes a number of recognizable artists, including SZA, Jack Harlow, Machine Gun Kelly, Rina Sawayama, Finneas, and FKA Twigs.

Each of the artists had a blurb written about them by another famous person. Jimmy Fallon, who will welcome Jack Harlow as co-host of The Tonight Show for an episode in October, wrote of Harlow, “‘What’s Poppin?’ That was the first time I heard Jack Harlow, and I couldn’t have pulled my phone out any faster to Shazam the song. That usually leads to a string of phone calls and emails to see if an artist is ready to perform or debut on The Tonight Show — and word back from his team was, ‘He’s ready.’ It’s been fun to ride with him — rom that race against time on Shazam, to his debut TV performance, to being part of his viral VMA opening, to his actually co-hosting The Tonight Show with me. And this is just the beginning for Jack Harlow.”

Actress Tommy Dorfman also said of Sawayama, “Rina Sawayama is magnificent. She puts in the work and it is paying off in a beautiful, organic way that I deeply admire. When you have the kind of artistic integrity that she has, you can’t fail. Because she’s not competing with anyone — she’s in a league of her own. Her music is so powerful and so danceable. She has such a warm and loving energy, so it’s always great to see her.”

SZA Rents Out A Theater For Fans To See ‘The Woman King’ In New Jersey

The Woman King is proving to be one of the buzziest films of the year, as well as one of the most critically acclaimed. One of the film’s biggest supporters is SZA, who took to Twitter today to share that she rented out a theater in New Jersey.

“PLEASE GO SEEE ITTTT !,” she said in a tweet.

SZA herself won’t be at the theater, as she is performing at the Global Citizen Festival in Ghana. But no matter where she is, she is always looking to give back to New Jersey. Last year, she partnered with TAZO and American Forests to plant trees in neighborhoods affected by environmental racism.

“My grandma lives in Newark, N.J., and there are no trees anywhere,” SZA said in an interview with Elle last year. “Growing up around that area was definitely a downer.”

Viola Davis first discussed The Woman King earlier this year, during an interview with Oprah, which premiered on Netflix this April/

“Looking at all these young women who are a part of this story, I’m telling you, I see the future in a lot of these young girls,” she said. “The confidence they have, the work ethic they have, it made me feel so proud just looking at how they showed up every day for work, how they understood the assignment.”

Doechii And SZA Sport Multiple Unforgettable Looks In The ‘Persuasive’ Video

When Doechii joined the TDE Records roster, she was the first female artist on the label besides SZA. Doechii has been on the up ever since, dropping her debut EP she/her/black b*tch last month, which features appearances from Rico Nasty and Just Ray, along with SZA on the record’s crowning moment, “Persuasive.”

The SZA-featured version of “Persuasive” is one of those tracks that should really be getting more talk as a potential song of the summer and now the pair have dropped a video that’s sure to get people talking about the collab between the ladies of TDE. Both Doechii and SZA flash multiple head-turning looks in the clip. It’s a masterful display of hair styling, Doechii gets wrapped in glitter at one point, and SZA even twerks and pole dances underwater.

“I created “Persuasive” to uplift people and bring communities together, so having SZA jump on the song was a perfect fit because I’ve always connected with others over her music,” Doechii said in a statement. “Knowing that SZA is with TDE was what originally got me most excited about being on this label, so now that we have a song together it’s a full-circle moment. She really ATE! This collaboration is everything I always imagined it to be.”

DJ Khaled, Future, And SZA Celebrate A ‘Beautiful’ Life In Their New Video

Upon releasing his 13th album, God Did, DJ Khaled has released several music videos throughout the week. His latest visual is for the album cut, “Beautiful,” which features Future and SZA.

In the song’s video, directed by Collin Tilley, Khaled is seen charming a woman on a boat. As the song begins, Khaled is joined by Future and SZA as they vibe out on a mirrored platform on the sand. Also in the video, they are seen driving large vehicles and enjoying cozy time by the fireside.

To put out 13 albums is a rare feat, but with more than two decades in the game, the radio personality, producer, and motivational speaker still maintains his momentum.

“To get to a 13th album is, like, beyond incredible for me,” said Khaled in an interview with Billboard. “The greats that I look up to, when I see how many albums they put out, I’m on the right track. And I know how hard it is to be in this game — some people can’t make it past their first single or their first album.”
