Week 3 NFL Recap: Notable Scores and Stats

New York Jets 24, New England Patriots 3

The New York Jets dominated the New England Patriots with a 24-3 victory at MetLife Stadium to open Week 3. Aaron Rodgers returned to the field where he tore his Achilles last season, completing 27-of-35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns. The Jets’ defense stifled the Patriots, holding Jacoby Brissett and his offense to a dismal -0.441 EPA per play. This win lifts the Jets to a 2-1 record, while the Patriots fall to 1-2.

Indianapolis Colts 21, Chicago Bears 16

Jonathan Taylor led the Colts to their first win of the season, rushing for 110 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries in a 21-16 victory over the Chicago Bears. Trey Sermon added a score for Indianapolis (1-2), preventing their first 0-3 start since 2021. Both Caleb Williams and Anthony Richardson struggled, each throwing two interceptions. Despite the loss, Williams recorded his first NFL touchdown passes and set season highs in passing yards, while Richardson’s questionable decisions continued to plague his performance.

New York Giants 21, Cleveland Browns 15

The New York Giants pulled off a road upset, defeating the Cleveland Browns 21-15 behind a stellar performance from rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers. Nabers, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, had another strong showing with double-digit targets and two touchdowns, leading the Giants to victory.

Minnesota Vikings 34, Houston Texans 7

Sam Darnold tied his career high with four touchdown passes as the undefeated Minnesota Vikings crushed the Houston Texans 34-7. Darnold connected with Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones early, then found Jalen Nailor for his third straight game with a touchdown before hitting Johnny Mundt for another score. Jefferson hauled in six catches for 81 yards, while Jones contributed 102 rushing yards and 46 receiving yards. Despite no official interceptions, Darnold had two turnover-worthy plays. Jonathan Greenard anchored the Vikings’ defense with three sacks, as they pressured rookie C.J. Stroud into two interceptions.

Philadelphia Eagles 15, New Orleans Saints 12

Saquon Barkley lifted the Eagles to a thrilling 15-12 victory over the Saints with two fourth-quarter touchdowns, including a 65-yard breakaway run and the game-winning 4-yard rush with just over a minute left. Philadelphia’s defense sealed the win when Reed Blankenship intercepted a pass from Derek Carr in the final minute, thwarting the league’s highest-scoring offense through the first two weeks.

Pittsburgh Steelers 20, Los Angeles Chargers 10

The Pittsburgh Steelers improved to 3-0 with a 20-10 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Justin Fields continued to impress, helping head coach Mike Tomlin keep his streak of above-.500 seasons alive.

Denver Broncos 26, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix led the Denver Broncos to a 26-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, scoring his first NFL victory. Nix made his third big-time throw of the season and added 47 rushing yards and a touchdown, despite two turnover-worthy plays. The Broncos’ defense outmatched Tampa Bay, shutting down their offense.

Green Bay Packers 30, Tennessee Titans 14

Malik Willis had a breakout game, guiding the Packers to a 30-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Filling in for the injured Jordan Love, Willis threw for 202 yards, rushed for 73, and scored two touchdowns. His efforts accounted for nearly all of Green Bay’s 137 first-quarter yards. Cornerback Jaire Alexander added to the Packers’ early lead with a pick-six, while their defense totaled 20 pressures and forced three turnovers.

Carolina Panthers 36, Las Vegas Raiders 22

The Carolina Panthers put together a complete performance, defeating the Las Vegas Raiders 36-22. Andy Dalton, filling in for Bryce Young, threw three touchdown passes, revitalizing the Panthers’ offense.

Seattle Seahawks 24, Miami Dolphins 3

Geno Smith led the Seattle Seahawks to a commanding 24-3 victory over the Miami Dolphins, throwing for 289 yards and a 71-yard touchdown to D.K. Metcalf. Despite two interceptions, Smith helped maintain Seattle’s lead. Zach Charbonnet added two rushing touchdowns. Miami’s quarterback struggles persisted as Skylar Thompson left with a chest injury, leaving backup Tim Boyle unable to rally a comeback.

Detroit Lions 20, Arizona Cardinals 13

The Detroit Lions leaned on their running game to close out a 20-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Jahmyr Gibbs rushed for 83 yards, while David Montgomery added 106 yards and a touchdown.

Los Angeles Rams 27, San Francisco 49ers 24

Rookie kicker Joshua Karty nailed a 37-yard field goal with seconds left to secure a 27-24 win for the Rams over the 49ers. Despite Jauan Jennings’ career-high 175 yards and three touchdowns, San Francisco couldn’t hold onto a 14-point lead.

Baltimore Ravens 28, Dallas Cowboys 25

Derrick Henry had a breakout game for the Baltimore Ravens, rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-25 win over the Cowboys. Though Dak Prescott rallied the Cowboys with 19 fourth-quarter points, Henry and Lamar Jackson carried the Ravens to victory.

Kansas City Chiefs 22, Atlanta Falcons 17

The Kansas City Chiefs remained undefeated with a 22-17 win over the Atlanta Falcons. The Chiefs’ defense came up big in the final moments, stopping the Falcons twice in the red zone, including a crucial fourth-and-1 tackle on Bijan Robinson. Kansas City’s defense continues to shine in critical situations, keeping their 3-0 record intact.

LeBron Doesn’t Agree With Opinions on Tom Brady’s Broadcasting: “He’s been great so far”

IMG 8881

Everybody has an opinion and LeBron’s matters.
If you’ve been paying attention to the start to the NFL season, Patriots legend Tom Brady made his broadcasting debut on September 8 during the Cleveland Browns vs. Dallas Cowboys game. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NFL history, Brady was signed by Fox with a lucrative deal to serve as a color commentator. Unfortunately, his first appearance in the booth drew mixed reviews.

Some critics, including renowned sportscaster Dan Patrick, highlighted areas where Brady struggled. “There were pauses, his cadence wasn’t smooth, there was very little synchronicity,” Patrick commented. “He needed to be more like he’s at the line of scrimmage… You need to see it, say it, get out.”

Anyway, NBA GOAT, arguably, LeBron James stepped up in his defense. During an appearance on DraftKings’ GoJo & Golic show, James was asked about the possibility of following in Brady’s footsteps after his own playing career.

“He’s been great so far,” James said, offering support for Brady’s transition to broadcasting.

Get this, James hasn’t committed to becoming a full-time sportscaster after his NBA career, he did express interest in possibly making a guest appearance in the booth here and there.

Whatever the future holds for LeBron James in the sports casting booth, one thing for sure he’s still hooping as a top player in the league… And thinks Tom Brady is doing just fine.

SOURCE SPORTS: [WATCH] Dodgers’ Shohei Ohtani Reaches Historic 50/50 Mark In 20-4 Win Over The Marlins In Miami

Screenshot 2024 09 19 at 10.48.37 PM

In his historic, record setting fashion, L.A. Dodgers’ DH Shohei Ohtani went 6-6, with 10 RBIs including 3 HRs in the Dodgers win over the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park; all while putting himself in a solo class as the only player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal rack up 50 stolen bases in single season.

Ohtani’s 10 RBI game set a franchise record for Los Angeles to help lock in their 12th postseason berth in a row.

The 30-year-old native of Japan became the sixth member of the 40/40 club last month with a monstrous walk-off grand slam in his 126th game of the season against the Rays.

Ohtani stole third base for his 50th bag after smashing a sharp double to right field in the first inning off RHP Edward Cabrera. In the sixth, Ohtani blasted his 49th homer to right fields upper deck, knocking in two runs off righty George Soriano. In the next inning, the 6’4″ switch player took Mike Baumann’s low knuckle curve to the opposite field , making him 5-5 at his next to last at-bat, with four extra base hits, including two homers and two steals. Another MLB record in what could be called the greatest single game for any player in history.

In his last visit to the plate of the night, the Marlins put second baseman Vidal Brijan on the mound and baseball’s “unicorn” did exactly what was expected of him with a 68 mph fastball; Shohei sent another ball to the upper deck for his 51st homer of the regular season.

Before Ohtani’s 50/50 record, the closet any other player got to 50 stolen bases with 50 HRs was the Alex Rodriguez(24) in 2007 and the late, great Willie Mays(24) in 1955.

This single season, record-breaking performance on the diamond comes exactly one year to the day after his elbow surgery, which took the multi-faceted player off the mound for 2024, but is expected to make a full recovery in order to make a pitching comeback in 2025.

Surpassing the comparisons of players such as Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron, Shohei Ohtani just proved that fans won’t see a player of his caliber anytime in the foreseeable future.

IMG 8828

Here we go … The Week 3 NFL schedule kicks off with a primetime AFC East matchup as the New England Patriots visit the New York Jets for Thursday Night Football. Both teams enter with 1-1 records after splitting their first two games. The Patriots, coming off a surprising Week 1 victory over the Bengals, were handed a loss by the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2.

The Jets, meanwhile, dropped their opener to the 49ers but rebounded with a win over the Tennessee Titans on the road. Nice bounce back fo the start to the Rodgers era.

On the injury front, the Jets will be without key defensive player C.J. Mosley, who injured his toe during the Titans game, leaving a significant hole in their linebacking corps. On the Patriots’ side, they’ll be missing linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley for the rest of the season due to a torn pectoral muscle, further testing their defense.

Game time is set for 8:15 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, New York currently stands as a six-point favorite, with the total over/under for the game set at 38.5 points according to the latest odds.

LeBron And Bronny Set To Play Together In Lakers Opener

IMG 8818

The Los Angeles Lakers will make history when LeBron James and his son Bronny share the court as the first father-son duo in NBA history.

LeBron is entering his 22nd season, while Bronny begins his NBA journey after being selected by the Lakers in the second round.

While Bronny may not feature heavily in the Lakers’ rotation, it’s anticipated that head coach JJ Redick will give him opportunities and according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, who appeared on the Bill Simmons Podcast, there’s a plan to have Bronny and LeBron take the floor together on Opening Night, just to “get it out of the way.”

Given the expectations, it makes sense that Redick and the Lakers would want this historic moment to happen early. The Lakers’ first game is against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Oct. 22.

Nonetheless, it’s likely that Redick will insert Bronny, which would be a special moment for the James family and Lakers fans alike.

However, it goes down, it’s clear that this moment will be one of the most historic in the history of the association. Then the countdown to Bronny’s first bucket, LeBron to Bronny, and Bronny to LeBron’s first assists… That will all be part of the hoopla. Make no mistake.

Atlanta Falcons Stun Philadelphia Eagles 22-21 In Monday Night Football Shocker

Whelp, we didn’t have that on our football picks bingo card. But Kirk Cousins apparently did after he led the Atlanta Falcons to a stunning 22-21 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football. Cousins delivered a quick 70-yard touchdown drive in just 65 seconds.

Get this, the Falcons trailing by six points and only 1:39 remaining in the game, when Cousins orchestrated a masterful drive that culminated in a 7-yard touchdown pass to Drake London. This score put the Falcons ahead and secured their first win of the season at Lincoln Financial Field.

Eagles star QB, Jalen Hurts had a solid performance for the Eagles, completing 22 of 28 passes for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also contributed significantly on the ground, rushing for 85 yards and another touchdown on 13 carries. Saquon Barkley added 95 yards on 22 carries, while DeVonta Smith put up 76 receiving yards and a touchdown on seven receptions. The Eagles had an opportunity to run out the clock on their final drive but had to settle for a field goal inside the two-minute warning. This gave them a six-point lead, leaving the door open for Cousins and the Falcons to rally.

This marks the first win for the Falcons after signing Cousins in the offseason. He went 20-of-29 for 241 yards and two touchdowns. Bijan Robinson provided a boost on the ground with 97 yards on 14 carries, and Darnell Mooney added 88 yards and a touchdown on three catches.

SOURCE SPORTS: Barrios vs. Ramos Added To Netflix & MVP’s Paul vs. Tyson Mega-Event

Screenshot 2024 09 16 at 9.20.11 PM

Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) today announced the addition of an electrifying WBC Welterweight Championship bout, with reigning champion Mario “El Azteca” Barrios (29-2, 18 KOs) set to defend his title against Abel Ramos (28-6-2, 22 KOs). The 12-round WBC Welterweight Championship bout will take place on the undercard of the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson and Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano super event on Friday, November 15, 2024. Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson will stream live globally, exclusively on Netflix from the 80,000-seat capacity AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Paul vs. Tyson and Taylor vs. Serrano 2 is anticipated to be the biggest boxing event in modern history, and fans can purchase tickets now at seatgeek.com.

Mario “El Azteca” Barrios is a rising star in the world of boxing, known for his fierce fighting style and deep connection to his Mexican heritage. Growing up in San Antonio, Texas, Mario was introduced to the sport at age six by his mother, Isabel Soto, who took him and his sister Selina to a local gym. Inspired by his cultural roots, Barrios embraced the moniker “El Azteca,” a tribute to the rich history and warrior spirit of the Aztec civilization, reflecting both his pride in his Mexican heritage and his relentless pursuit of greatness inside the ring.

He captured his first world title in 2019, defeating Batyr Akhmedov in a thrilling fight. Barrios later moved up to welterweight, where he faced top contenders, including a memorable bout against Gervonta “Tank” Davis in 2021. Barrios, the WBC Welterweight champion and former WBA World Super Lightweight Champion, was also recently rumored to be a potential opponent for Manny Pacquiao. He now returns to the ring after securing a dominant victory over Fabian Andres Maidana in his last outing as the co-main event of Canelo vs. Munguia.

“I’m thrilled to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime event,” said Mario Barrios. “The fight on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card is huge, with millions watching live on Netflix. Abel Ramos is a tough Mexican fighter, just like me, so I know it’ll be a hell of a fight in front of my Texas people at the Dallas Cowboys’ stadium. I’m also excited to showcase my Indigenous roots on this global platform. Don’t miss this fight—it’s going to be war, Puro San Antonio!”

Abel Ramos, a relentless welterweight contender from Casa Grande, Arizona, is known for his thrilling battles and relentless determination in the ring. Guided by his family’s boxing legacy, Ramos began his amateur career at 13, earning accolades such as placing third in the National Golden Gloves and and won bronze at US Nationals in 2010. Transitioning to the professional ranks in 2011, he quickly built a reputation for his power and resilience, taking on formidable opponents like Ivan Baranchyk and Regis Prograis. This will be Ramos’ second world title opportunity after a SD loss to Yordenis Ugas in 2020. Ramos’s most dramatic victory came in 2020 with a last-second knockout against Bryant Perrella.

“I’m very excited to be fighting for the WBC title and I’m looking forward to a great fight against Mario Barrios,” said Abel Ramos. “He’s a warrior just like me and I’m going to give the fans at Cowboys Stadium and those watching around the world on Netflix an exciting fight on Friday, November 15th.”

“On Mexican Independence Day I am thrilled to announce the addition of Mario “El Azteca” Barrios to what I believe will be the most globally consumed boxing event since the advent of pay-per-view,” said Nakisa Bidarian, co-founder of Most Valuable Promotions. “Mario Barrios vs. Abel Ramos for the WBC Welterweight Championship will be an action packed fight that will fully embody the Mexican style of boxing and bring fans to their feet. Viva Mexico!”

Barrios vs Ramos joins Netflix and MVP’s Paul vs. Tyson mega-event, which will also feature as the co-main event, the most anticipated rematch in women’s boxing history between Matchroom’s undisputed super lightweight world champion Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs), and boxing trailblazer and unified featherweight champion, Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (47-2-1, 31 KOs). This will mark Taylor and Serrano’s long-awaited rematch following their historic bout at Madison Square Garden in 2022, where they made history as the first-ever women fighters to headline an event in the iconic venue’s history. The women’s undisputed mega-fight will be contested across 10, two-minute rounds, Serrano’s only break from fighting 12×3, the men’s championship standard, for the remainder of her career. India’s number one boxer and MVP’s first international signee, Neeraj Goyat (18-4-2, 8 KOs), will also make his MVP debut against Brazil’s multi-talented superstar Whindersson Nunes, who holds a cumulative 2-2-1 record in his boxing career with 1 KO, in a professional 6-round super middleweight bout contested at 165 lbs.

SOURCE SPORTS: Mets’ Lindor Out Of Lineup Again After Playing For One Inning In Last Game Against Phils

Screenshot 2024 09 16 at 8.48.25 PM

The Mets are remaining optimistic going into their seven-game homestead against the Phillies and the Nationals after a nail biting loss against Philadelphia during the same game that Francisco Lindor was taken out due to an ongoing back injury. According to Lindor himself, he might be on the bench for what “could be three to five days” at the most crucial point in the Mets’ season.

Even though the prognosis of the 30-year-old shortstop isn’t deemed “too serious”, Lindor underwent MRI imaging after being taken out of Sunday’s game to determine the damage done to his lower back. Even though the results show no structural damage to his back, Lindor was left out of Monday’s lineup against Washington, with second baseman Jose Iglesias moving over to shortstop and taking Lindor’s leadoff spot in the batting order.

“I still have a little bit of pain, but we had good news,” Lindor said. “Everything seems like it’s good, it could be three to five days, or it could be two to three — depends on how my back reacts.”

He added, “I felt fine, I felt good — it wasn’t like a freak accident where I reinjured it. It just got tight on me. I just felt like I could play through it. And the next thing you know, I didn’t feel comfortable enough to stay on the field. When I can’t stay on the field to do what I love most, which is play defense, that’s when I said something. When I was a little timid on the ground balls.”

Team doctors agree that Lindo doesn’t need an injection in his back, so Lindor is hoping to be back before the end of the regular season.

“Honestly, relief. Really good news,” manager Carlos Mendoza said. “… I think we got the best news. Like [Lindor] said, it could be three to five [days], two to three, who knows? But the hope is that he’ll be a player for us before the year is over. So, I was expecting the worst to be honest.”

Recruited recently from Syracuse AAA-affiliate, Luisangel Acuna will be interchanging with Iglesias at shortstop until Lindor’s return. As Mets’ “ironman”, Lindor playing in all games of the regular season until today(September 16) has positively impacted the Mets’ chances at a Wild Card spot. With a three-game series ahead of New York vs. the Nationals followed by four games against Philly, the Mets’ postseason future will be determined this week at Citi Field.
