Wiz Khalifa Joins SK8 On DVBBS-Assisted “Girl Next Door”

The Taylor Gang train is moving in motion. Wiz Khalifa’s label has steady expanded since the early 2010s when everyone was yelling ‘Taylor Gang Or Die.’ The loyal fanbase is still going strong but Wiz has also been introducing new artists to the fold. Wiz Khalifa announced the signing of SK8 in 2018 and they’ve been going strong ever since.

This week, Sk8 unveiled a brand new single titled, “Girl Next Door.” His latest single taps Wiz Khalifa and DVBBS for assistance. It’s pop-punk inspiration doesn’t necessarily seem like it would be a good fit for Wiz Khalifa but the Taylor Gang leader pulls through on this one.

Sk8 and Wiz Khalifa previously worked alongside each other on the track, “Omme.”

Ambush Tackles Meek Mill’s “Flamerz Flow” On New Freestyle

Meek Mill has fans at the edge of their seats in anticipation of new music. The rapper’s been slowly unveiling new freestyles over the months, including a freeverse over “Lemon Pepper Freestyles,” but he hasn’t announced any official release date for a project. For now, his recently released, “Flamerz Flow” is bound to be in steady rotation and spawn even more freestyles from other rappers in the future.

This week, UK rapper Ambush came through with brute force to tackle the instrumental. The rapper’s vigorous flow matches the energy of the production as he details his rise.

Last year, Ambush shared his last project, Ask My Brother which included appearances from Giggs, RA, D Double E, and more.

Check out Ambush’s freestyle below and let us know how he did in the comments.

ShooterGang Kony & Lil Bean Team Up On “Up2Date”

It looks like ShooterGang Kony is really about to have a breakout moment soon. After gaining a significant underground buzz in the past few years, the slew of projects he released in 2020 cemented him as one of the most promising new artists out of Sacramento in recent times. The rapper puts his life into his music and his experiences make for some compelling storytelling but he’s also capable of creating a certified banger like his latest release, “Up2Date.” The rapper links up with Lil Bean for his latest hit. Led by upbeat, West Coast-centric production, the exhilarating banger finds them reflecting on the harsh realities of the streets.

ShooterGang Kony’s latest single follows the release of “Over They Head.” Check out “Up2Date” below and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Skiifall Snaps On “Feds Fraid We”

Montreal’s Skiifall has been one to look out for this year. The release of “Ting Tun Up” earned him global acclaim including a few spins on OVO Sound Radio and placement in Virgil Abloh’s Louis Vuitton x NBA campaign where he debuted an unreleased song from his forthcoming project. Each single he’s dropped has been just as good as the last and this summer, he’s keeping a steady stream of music.

This week, he returned with another banger titled, “Feds Fraid We.” Once again, he teams up with producer Yama Sato, as well as Joseph L’Etranger, who bring an atmospheric fusion of trap and dancehall that perfectly fits Skiifall’s ragga flow.

Chiiild Reimagines “Gone” With Jensen McRae

Ever since the release of “Sleepwalking” earlier this spring, fans have been patiently awaiting the release of Chiiiild’s follow-up project to 2020’s Synthetic Soul. Now, the wait for the Montreal-born and Los Angeles-based multihyphenate‘s forthcoming effort, Hope For Sale, is almost over as the project is set to arrive on July 23rd. A little more than a week out from its release, Chiild has opted to share a tasteful new take on the previously released single “Gone” with rising folk singer Jensen McRae.

More than a mere remix in which an additional artist just contributes a guest verse, this reimagined version of “Gone” finds Chiiild and Jensen Mcrae exploring a much more spirited and upbeat sonic soundscape than the original version of the single. The end-result is a refreshing new take on an already incredible tune as well as a bold introduction for McRae.

Atmosphere Announce New Album, Drop Lead Single “Woes”

Underground legends Atmosphere have returned with their new single “Woes,” which arrives alongside the announcement of the forthcoming album Word? Featuring guest appearances from the late MF DOOM, Sa-Roc, Aesop Rock, Evidence, and more, the project has all the makings of another strong release from the beloved duo.

Setting the tone is “Woes,” which features a surprisingly feel-good instrumental in spite of its title. Lyrically, Slug remains in fine form, his unique style of relatable sentiments and abstract imagery still delighting fans to this day. “I must be dumb, she had a pocket full of horseshoes / smile like orange juice shining off my fangs,” he raps. “I’m trying to ascertain why everybody has to complain, even the sunshine will dance in the rain.”

Be sure to check out “Woes” now, and look for the upcoming Word? to arrive in full on October 8th. While that may feel like a while yet, Atmosphere has opted to dull the pain with the album’s “Side A,” which comes complete with an additional three tracks from the project.

Isaiah Rashad Warms Up With “Slow Motion” Freestyle

With his upcoming album The House Is Burning set to release on July 30th, Isaiah Rashad has opted to keep momentum with the release of a new freestyle. Calling back to Juvenile and Soulja Slim’s classic “Slow Motion,” Rashad takes to Dani Kartel’s laid-back beat with a sexually charged homage to a few women he’s befriended throughout the years.

Off the bat, his flow is immediately impressive, locked in as the TDE emcee proceeds to globetrot down memory lane. Following similar thematic territory as JAY-Z’s “Girls, Girls, Girls” or J.I.D and T.I’s more recent “Ladies, Ladies, Ladies,” Rashad’s slick and up-tempo flow ensures that no stone is left unturned. “I got some hoes down in Miami that I’ll never betray, they done got me out of jams that I’ll never forget,” he raps. “I got a surgeon, a doctor, a dentist / a bitch that like forehead kisses, not hickeys.”

While it’s likely this subject could have merited an entire track, Isaiah opts to keep it brief with a tone-setting freestyle. Be sure to give it a listen, and check back for The House Is Burning when it releases on July 30th.

TOBi & Mick Jenkins Link On “Off The Drugs”

TOBi has come through with his new single “Off The Drugs,” enlisting the always-talented Mick Jenkins for the assist. Taking to a laid-back and vibey guitar arrangement, the Canadian melodist sets it off with an introspective bit of soul-searching, his creativity no doubt fueled by the soothing presence of cannabis.

“When I smoke, I see things clearer and I’m way more aware,” explains TOBi, in a press release. “So I’m intentional about how I use it. I think more money should go into researching things like cannabis and mushrooms for their healing properties. Just the way I look at it, so many things are actually drugs—alcohol, gambling, even social media cuz it affects brain chemistry, but all that shit is legal.”

As expected, Mick Jenkins knocks it out of the park with his own contribution, his weary baritone blending nicely with the production. “The paper’s rolled, the blunt’s a no-no,” he raps. “No dibs on doobies, bout to get lit by my dolo / White grape, white owl was my first love I can’t go no mo’ tho’ / Moving through this water, let me show you how it’s different, how I show boat.”

Check out “Off The Drugs” now, and look for the upcoming music video set to drop soon.

BJ The Chicago Kid & Lucky Daye Drop Off “Make You Feel Good”

BJ The Chicago Kid’s ongoing series BJ Wednesday, which recently granted us the smooth Eric Bellinger duet “Type Of Day,” has continued with the final installment “Make You Feel Good.” This time, BJ enlists the talents of Lucky Daye and producer Bongo ByTheWay, who lays the foundation with a minimalist and atmospheric beat. It’s the ideal backdrop for both melodists, providing them ample space to lay their hearts on the line.

In addition to delivering the romantic and sensual new track, BJ has confirmed that he’s gearing up to deliver a new EP titled 4AM. Set to be released on July 23rd, the project will be BJ’s first release since 2019’s 1123. Speaking on the EP’s title in an official press release, BJ explained that he drew inspiration from his nocturnal lifestyle. “I am naturally a night owl and for creatives that stay up like me, 4 am in the morning is like the magic hour where all your best ideas flow,” he reveals. “These songs are without a doubt some of my strongest!”

Check out the final chapter of BJ Wednesdays now, and sound off if you’re excited to see his triumphant return with 4AM.

Lil Wayne Said “Sorry 4 Tha Wait” With Hard-Hitting Anthem “Rollin”

If you poll a hefty number of rap fans, it’s likely that a fair few would confidently name Lil Wayne the “best rapper alive.” Unsurprisingly, given how much work the Young Money legend put in on the mixtape circuit, mercilessly destroying the instrumentals of his fellow emcees. In fact, Wayne’s determination to raise the bar for bars — a testament to his Jordan-like competitive spirit — was often most evident on his storied run of tapes, a catalog that includes the fan-favorite Sorry 4 The Wait.

Originally released ten years ago (its anniversary was yesterday), Sorry 4 The Wait was originally released to tide fans over amidst a slew of Carter 4 delays. Featuring beats jacked from Meek Mill, Drake, Kreyshawn, Adele, Miguel, and more, one of the project’s hardest songs came by way of a Gunplay and Waka Flocka flip. “Rollin,” a hard-hitting highlight in the tape’s early stages, finds Wayne at his most intimidating. “My Pa is the Birdman, I’m rich as a white man,” he spits. “I come to your show and kill you and your hypeman.”

If you’re interested in revisiting the tape, as well as taking a stroll down memory lane when HNHH was the plug for mixtape downloads, check out the ten-year-old Sorry 4 The Wait below. You can also give “Rollin” a listen, retitled in the embed as “Clap City” so a verified page could be used. Where do you rank this one in Lil Wayne’s overall catalog?

I’m from New Orleans, ni*ga, where you ain’t never safe
You fuck with me, I drop you off in front of Heaven gates

Drink like a goldfish, that’s right, you know this
Hold up, Click-clack, Okay, I’m reloaded!
